The pub was inviting, creating a cozy atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was good—tasty and well-prepared. However, the main downside was the waiting time. Despite the pub not being busy, our meals took much longer than expected to arrive, which was quite frustrating. Overall, it’s a nice place with a great atmosphere, but the slow service takes away from the experience. I’d consider returning, hoping for a quicker turnaround next time.

Drab, sanitised, soulless. If ‘corporate’ made a pub / service station this is what it looks and feels like. It’s just been refurbished and it’s gone backwards. Once the heartbeat of the towns social life especially Sundays. No one without a bribe would go here when any other pub is open. That’s how I ended up there, a couple of free pint tokens and a 241 meal deal, That made two fish n chips and two pints of bitter £17 and it still wasn’t worth it. There’s just nothing to enjoy in there. It’s not comfortable. There’s no connection with the staff there’s nothing on the menu that makes you look forward to it. It’s just dull and it’s a travesty of design that’s killed what was the most attractive pub in the area.

Having visited The Red Barn numerous times we decided to visit for Sunday lunch again and will certainly not be returning in the near future We waited ages to be asked for our drinks order and even longer for our food order. After about an hour our mains arrived and where they used to put the vegetables in separate bowls, everything was done arty farty on our plates. My partner and I had the roast beef and it was overcooked and full of gristle and fat. We couldn’t cut it as the only knives we had were normal cutlery and not steak knives, which made it nigh on impossible to cut Our friends ordered the whole chicken and when they cut into it there was blood near the bone so we called the waitress over who said it was a burst blood vessel and normal. So they cut into the other side and that again had blood near the bone. Our waitress then went into the kitchen and came back and said that it was perfectly safe to eat. They of course refused to accept it and were told that they would have to wait 1hr 45 mins whilst another chicken was cooked and that the chicken would probably be the same, so they opted for the roast beef as well. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks, the water that we ordered was not delivered to the table either and then our waitress disappeared! We waited for our plates to be removed and finally asked another waitress who said she would return and then she disappeared! I finally cleared the table myself and put all the plates and gravy boat on another clean table and then we waited again to be asked if we would like dessert. Finally I can only assume a manager cleared the plates from the clean table and then apologised that our waitress has disappeared and no one knew where she had gone …. Unbelievable!!! Finally someone else took our dessert order and this was served in double quick time, but the crumble was half hot and the other side was cold. Our waitress then reappeared and cleared our plates. The manger then came with our bill after we had asked the waitress, apologised and said that we could have the desserts FOC due to the terrible service. She said that they were really busy with covers inside and out and not enough staff in the kitchen and waiting staff This seriously needs to be looked into by higher management and addressed otherwise after reading the other recent reviews they are going to find their customers numbers going down

Visited the Ship Inn 11th April first time for a number of years for lunch, ordered Lasagne which came with a side salad, Lasagne was okay but the salad we didn't touch. This was the first lunch order served at 12 and the salad looked as it had been left from the night before. Other issues eating outside is a communal cutlery container where the cutlery is placed handle down in it, so people are touching the knife blades and forks when helping there selves, we witnessed customers returning cutlery to this pot after taking to many. Also opened sauce containers left outside in this area in bright sunshine for customers use. The other big issue for us is if you choose to eat outside in the designated fenced area for dining you will suffer people smoking whilst you are eating

Came here with family after a few recommendations. It's a nice looking place with a good outdoor space and a little play area for kids. I remember coming here a bit when I lived in the area and it has smartened up a fair bit. Service was ok if a little bit slow but the main problem was that the food was not very good at all. Pizza bases are not made fresh, despite their claims (think 4-pack frozen mini pizza bases from the 80s/90s). The macaroni cheese was an unbaked gloopy congealed pasta mess which tasted literally of nothing. The buns for the burgers were the cheapest type of rubbish - that kind of white fluff that you buy in packs, lasts for 4 months but disintegrates when exposed to any type of temperature change. The Sirloin steaks, while cooked quite well, were just a bit unloved, sad and grey. I have observed the worrying trend of pubs like this pushing the prices of main courses higher and higher towards £20 and beyond while seemingly not paying any attention to the quality of food. I was left thinking of all the really good places we could have spent that kind of money without having to experience this kind of disappointment.

⚠️AVOID AT ALL COSTS⚠️ PLEASE AVOID. They do not care for you, your order, or anything. The woman who was behind the bar at 5pm on the 13th of march. There was no queue, and she looked very bored. Her clumsiness got the better of her she went on to guess what drinks I had just ordered. She managed to make a very bitter mocha, but she is new so can you blame her. With my frappe she went and made the most popular (caramel) frappe assuming I had ordered it which i realised once I had already left the store. To put some icing on the cake, there were flies over the lids of the drinks 🤢🤢. How can you hand over incorrect drinks with flies all over them 😭 what a joke. Please avoid. And get that woman fired? She thinks she is above the customers 😭. Please just walk a minute down the road to the station costa to which they provide great drinks and service.
