Should always walk away from a quiet pub on a Sunday lunchtime. We didn’t know what to expect. Google was down. Ordered roast beef meal. Came 25 minutes later. Tepid but a seal around the gravy edge and my husband’s gravy was dried out. All the roasted veg - potatoes and parsnip tasted of very little and were dry. The potatoes dehydrated and tasted old. I’m convinced that these and the Yorkshire were pre frozen, kept tepid for hours and not cooked on site. The beef was tough. Huge dollop of horseradish flooded into the vegetables. A truly forgettable meal. Despite the waitress asking if it was ok, the list of problems with it was so long , it was embarrassing.

Disappointing Experience I visited today, and unfortunately, I left feeling disappointed. I ordered the Milanese chicken with fries, and it was clear from the first bite that the fries had been cooked in old, rancid oil, well past safe usage. The taste of old, degraded oil was unmistakable, and hours later, I can still feel the unpleasant heaviness lingering in my stomach. The Milanese chicken itself was just acceptable, but the accompanying rocket salad was limp, wilted, and sad-looking with three nearly transparent parmisan flakes; hardly what you would expect from a gastropub that presumably prides itself on quality. There was no salt and pepper at the table. Small details like that matter when the rest of the experience is underwhelming. The portion of fries was surprisingly small, adding insult to injury given the poor quality. Another frustrating point was the service at the till. I stood waiting to order and pay, but although several staff members saw me, no one approached or acknowledged me for quite some time. It’s basic hospitality to ask if a guest needs help, especially when they are clearly standing at the payment point. To be fair, when engaged directly, the staff were generally pleasant and polite, but the overall impression was disorganised and inattentive. In short, this place did not meet the standard I expect from a quality gastropub. The issues with food quality (rancid oil), the sad presentation, and the inattentive service are serious enough that I would think twice before returning. I'm honestly tired of these places that flood their menus with fancy, overblown words, selling you a dream of craftsmanship and quality, only to deliver something small, tired, and completely underwhelming. It's all smoke and mirrors. If they put half as much effort into the food as they do into the descriptions, maybe the experience would actually live up to the hype. The atmosphere is nice and the garden is lovely, apart for the obnoxious smoker near the non-smoking area where we were seated.

Lovely pub as in looks but food absolutely awful! Cold and flavourless! Very expensive and absolutely awful chicken was plain and soggy! Macaroni cheese tasted like nothing and the chips had what looked like dandruff! The menu looked amazing and what was brought to the table was far from what it said! 100% avoid!

Popped in to see what it's like as we don't live far. Ordered a glass of prosecco and a pint of Aspall. The prosecco (125ml) was £8.45 and the Aspall was £6.05, so a total of £14.50. We sat down and was looking through the menus, only to see that the house prosecco was £6.95 a glass, the Ponte was £8.05 and the Ponte Rose was £8.45, so he charged us for a more expensive version of the drink he gave us. Despicable thief! As for the dire management response, Mandy completely glossed over the fact that we were still charged more for a Rosé and served a White - obviously management encourage, enable and support theft from customers and dress it up as 'confusion'. Shame on you, Mandy, shame on you. And you spelled my name wrong - on purpose probably, eh Mandee? You just turned our first visit into our last visit. For the sake of stealing £1.50.

Lovely pub and great garden to sit in enjoying the sunshine but OMG the Manager was so miserable, no please or thank you to my wife ordering, he had a right pop at one of his staff infront of us and then when we left after enjoying our drink and snack he couldnt even be polite then and say bye, it wasnt like he was busy as there was only about 7 in the pub including us, his customer service was disgusting

Party of 10, all starters and mains pre ordered at the pubs request. Starters were fairly prompt but then waited an hour for all our mains. 2 meals were incorrect, some under or overcooked and all the portion sizes were tiny. After ordering puddings, again another 30 min wait. There were only 3 other tables of diners in there. No acknowledgement of long service, let alone an apology. Don’t bother.

Generous portions of pub grub served at this pleasant hostelry. There’s plenty of choice, with options for those on a vegan or gluten-free diet. There are burgers, fish and chips and all the usual fare you’d expect from a pub. I had the lasagne which was huge, arrived piping hot but I had tasted better. We had to wait a while to be served - about half an hour. I suspect this may have been due to a shift change. When we were served the staff were friendly and attentive. I’d have given the pub 4/5 had we been served more quickly. It’s fine for a quick pub meal, all the same.

So my wife an i went for a lunchtime drink last week and thought this is a nice pub so we booked mothers day Lunch for our Family of 6.we got there for 2pm and our table was ready and that was as good as it got the starters were ok and turned up in 5 mins. Then 1 hour later after excuses from the staff my wife went to complain and finally the food turned up! My daughter could cut her beef ( to undercooked) so i swapped my Lamb with her. My wifes chicken sat on a ton of rocket and the presentation was really poor!! Lots more problems and left without waiting for our afters!! Would never eat there Again !!!

We are local residents and my husband frequently visits while our daughter attends local classes. We attended yesterday for the Mother’s Day lunch as a group of 7 and had a very sub par experience. We had pre booked a table for 7 including paying a deposit. When we arrived we were given a table for 6 (in a largely empty pub as we arrived at 12). When we asked for a larger table they just stuck another chair in the end and squished everyone else up. Onto the food and drinks… We ordered drinks for the table - all arrived apart from 1 which we had to order 3 times over a 15 minute period for someone to bring over. Waitress took half the food orders before going to get a waiver for my husband to sign when he declared he had a dairy allergy. He had intended to order a starter too but when she came back 10 minutes later all the other starters had been brought out so he had to eat alone- a soup with no spoon served, which we then had to spend 10 minutes getting someone’s attention to bring one over. The Mother’s Day set menu was £30 for 2 courses and very limited. 3 of us ordered halloumi and it was 3 small pieces , no salad and some chilli jam- I wouldn’t have paid more than £5 for that (if that), which then leaves £25 for a small fish and chips. The main courses were a mixed bag. One had a pork belly which was so salty it was inedible and served without the advertised apple sauce. When the waitress brought the fish and chips out she declared them the “small fish and chips”- before clarifying this was the full sized main for the menu. It was a handful of chips and 2 small pieces of fish. It was meant to come with peas- none of these were served. The beans serving for the kids meal amounted to 2 teaspoons. Overall, the food was incredibly overpriced for what it was. It’s a very disappointing experience. We have been many times and would not go again after this.

We visit here for lunch every once in a while when taking the pooches to Knole Park. The bar area and the large garden area are dog friendly, and you can certainly relax with them here. The menu is classic pub food but includes a selection of small dishes of 4 for £26 which suits us. The wine list was fine and not overpriced either. Service was helpful and prompt. So overall, it’s good for a chilled lunch and we would as always come back.

We stopped off for lunch on a Fri lunchtime and were lucky enough to get a table by the beautiful fire 🔥 which the staff frequently attended throwing on logs to maintain it. The menu was good. My husband loved the shepherds pie. My chicken burger was a bit dry and could have definitely done with more slaw as there was only a small amount in the bun. Absolutely loved the chocolate orange dessert and my husband demolished the apple and rhubarb crumble. Our server Mandy was efficient polite and friendly. Came on the 15th for our delayed valentines meal as a family we haven’t been out in a very long time. Our first visit too, free parking, the restaurant was lovely and clean, staff was also very nice and friendly, was quiet inside for a Saturday evening service probably could’ve been a little better felt like we didn’t have just one person looking after us. Lady took our starter plates which was finished with as the guy brought our mains and apologised saying he couldn’t get there to take them away, he asked if we wanted any sauces so hubby also asked for another drink but he’d walked away before I tell him I wanted another drink, we didn’t receive the drinks till we was pretty much finished our food. Didn’t want to stay for desserts, wasn’t too expensive food was lovely had the 4 for £26 starters, Wagyu burger, hubby had the chicken burger and little one had the kids chicken burger.

Unfortunately terrible experience. We went there a few years ago and it was amazing for a Sunday. We promised ourselves when we had some money we would go back. However the meat was incredibly fatty and took alot to chew. Yorkshire non existent as to "having run out" then Yorkshires were being served to other customers and we were told the chef didn't think they were up to standard although some roasted leeks in blue cheese came out that were not roasted or had blue cheese on. Pigs in blankets some didn't have blankets. Parnsips also not there. The lady was lovely but communication from kitchen to customers was poor. We won't be going back.

Have Been to the bullfinch for many years, as I live in the area have seen a lot of changes over the years. I payed a visit last night and was very disappointed that they had run out of cream!!! Service couldn't have been better, drinks were sensibly priced but the food had issues, starters were great, mains were average, the traditional Christmas dinner was very poor... wet processed meat, stuffing cut off a block and generally poorly dressed, roast potatos grim. Definitely not value for money, very expensive for small portions, Service was very slow. Requested if our mains could come with the one starter we had ordered… 50 mins later the mains arrived. In comparison as soon as we said we were finished the young lady swooped in and cleared the table within seconds ! It felt like we should shove off as fast as possible. I worked at this pub in the 1990s and service was so much better then. Not going to bother again. It was Monday afternoon so not actually that busy. 1 of 120 establishments in the portfolio. And it shows: the place is soulless, the staff has no personality and the service generally lacks, and the food is shocking. Upon ordering, I mentioned an intolerance to processed food, but as this was a Sunday roast, I felt that everything should be home-made anyway. Still, the waitress looked confused so I made it easy and specifically requested that anything coming out of a packet didn't make it on my plate. I ended up with a piece of pork hard as leather, burnt potatoes and a few overcooked kale and carrots. I suspect Chef 'Mic' is the hardest working chef in this kitchen. Neither of us at the table ate our food and management had the decency to comp' our 'meal'. Wil not be returning.

Went as a group of 5, myself and my sister asked for a roast with no meat as we don’t have eat meat and a side of cauliflower/broccoli cheese. We was told to share as it’s big. The roast came and less than quarter of the plate had food on it. 1x mini carrot, 2x small potatoes (not crispy) 1x cabbage leaf 1x tender-stem broccoli and a small Yorkshire pudding. Seeing as it’s a no meat roast you’d think they would try bulk it out with veg? My dad had parsnips with his beef? We didn’t, as vegetarians? Paid the same amount for a veggie roast as a normal roast you’d think they wouldn’t be so stingy! The cauliflower broccoli cheese came 5 minutes after we started and there was 2x small cauliflower florets and 2x small tender stem broccolis? Not really sure how that’s big enough to share. £18 not worth it for the size of the portions.

Meat chewy, potatoes reheated, bland tastes. That was the roast. And regarding the pie - salty, full of probably cheap glutamate seasoning leaving awful aftertaste. My kidneys won’t be happy. Been coming here to meet a friend fairly regularly for a few years now . Nice , spacious pub which formally offered good lunch menu with great parking . Met my friend this week on Thursday lunchtime. Walked in at opening time and the fire was already roaring and welcoming. Sadly the inviting welcome ended there. Even though the pub was empty and staff around we had to almost stand in front of a team member to get served. The food menu was quite extensive but we only wanted a light lunch ideally a sandwich as we'd been ordering previously . The sandwich menu seemed to been replaced with only a Ciabatta Slice menu of 4 or 5 options each costing £10 which seemed expensive but potentially worth a taste. Trust me they are not . I had the Goats cheese with beetroot . The foccacia I would suggest not fresh but frozen , the goats cheese scraped like butter with a sprinkling of beetroot . No side salad , crisps or chips incredibly underwhelming fir £10. Lucky for me an attentive member of staff came round to check our food was satisfactory . Not one to complain normally I was reactive to highlight my disappointment. He apologised and noted but also asked how he could rectify and ordered me some extra courtesy chips for which I appreciated and thanked him for . In spite of this I feel the Menu , value and quality of food was disappointing. We will be going to another pub in future. Sent from my Galaxy

Having had a couple of drinks here before I decided to book a table for food for our anniversary. Although the service was ok, the food was grim. The lasagne was rubbery, dry and a little worse than a supermarket microwave dinner. My wife’s calamari was small and insignificant. Her burger was average. All over priced. We asked for a table by the open fire but it died out within 10 minutes. I had to asked for more logs to be put on. The staff put on 2 logs and it died within 5 minutes. Nic, our waiter, made sure that me & my elderly mother were comfortable, and then served us an Excellent Sunday Roast Lunch. All the elements were cooked perfectly, the meat (beef & lamb) was beautifully cooked! The potatoes & veggies were very good too, and Nic also gave us an extra (free) jug of gravy. The whole experience was GREAT; We will definitely come back! Thank you to the team in the kitchen, and the excellent waiter, Nic.

We were a party of 16, including some children, and descended on these poor people with only an hour's notice. To say that they stepped up to the challenge is an understatement! Amy in particular was amazing, she took our orders with good humour and was cheerful throughout, and lovely with the children! The kitchen also did brilliantly, getting all our meals out within a short time of each other, and those who had the steak said they were beautifully cooked to their preferences. Thank you so much for providing a really positive end to what had been actually a really hard day (my mum's funeral); I know my Dad, in particular, was really grateful!

Really bad service. Party of 8 and 2 mains come out and half hour later the other 6 mains come out. Manager blamed it on because we had a kids meal with the food. Ordered desserts and they also took over half hour to come. Would not recommend.

Even though it was a very quiet Monday, the decoration and ambiance was excellent and food was really tasty. Beautifully cooked and well presented. Not at all expensive and Wesley our table staff was extremely efficient and friendly. Our first visit.... first of many I think.

We arrived as a party of 7 early on a Saturday evening when the pub wasn't busy, and although many of the tables were pre-booked, Martha was fantastic at helping us organise tables to put together, and was also very friendly and efficient. We ordered lasagne, burgers and some vegan dishes, and the food came swiftly and was tasty, as were the beers on tap. Just what we needed as a hungry family of all ages!

Had a couple of lovely meals at The Bullfinch whilst on holiday in the local area. Good service in a nice pub. Thanks to our server, Nic for whom nothing was too much trouble during our visits.

No children allowed after 6pm Very very sad to see this family pub go to ruins in not even a week after new mangerment has taken over. Bad enough all the amazing staff have been sacked and are not allowed there jobs back but now they are affecting the amazing customers. Lee has a lot to answer for! Time to find somewhere new

Very nice place to eat, nice easy atmosphere, good selection on the menu, especially for vegetarians as they have a good selection, food is well cooked, well presented and are in plentiful portions, staff were particularly helpful and attentive, there is free parking opposite, but do book before you go as there was a good crowd in.we had a party of 6, all had 3 courses plus drinks came in at around £35 a head,so no worries there

Always very welcoming. Can be busy at times, mainly because it is so popular.
