The Narrows - Wetherspoons in Vale of White Horse

Spent a few hours at The Narrows yesterday afternoon with extended family. Food was good for the price and certainly can complain about the drinks but the attitude of one young girl was appalling. She was dealing with table orders and complained that there were multiple orders coming through for our table, so asked if we could just order everyone’s together. We explained that we weren’t doing large rounds as a group. When approaching the bar, she looked and made a cross with her forearms before saying ‘I’m not serving’. Really poor attitude and didn’t speak even when bringing drinks to the table. Other staff seemed much more pleasant.

Breakfasts are delicous, tasty and the coffee and tea refill offer is awesome. Well recommended.

Freedom breakfast was good but service a little slow bearing in mind so few customers. It was good when it arrived though not quite as hot as it should be due to cold plate probably due to it being a bit colder overnight.

My god their breakfast price is crazy cheap! Ok, not a pub I’d go to in the evening (despite their cheap alcohol prices - just walking past it’s somewhere I’d avoid with people crammed in and bouncers on the door) ….. BUT visit during the morning and it’s quiet (no music! oh yay). Have been a few times for their breakfast - and ok, it’s not the most amazing, but for the price it’s incredible. Unlimited hot drinks until midday too! I have either the vegetarian or vegan brekkie, and the Quorn sausages are the best I’ve had anywhere (believe me, I’m super fussy about my veggie sausages) - even my meat eater husband is impressed with them too, so much that he now prefers the veggie option to the regular traditional one. Only one complaint ……… PLEASE MAKE THE FOOD HOT - it’s never quite hot enough and the baked beans are always tepid - beans don’t require cooking skills - just reheat them in a microwave or keep hot on a stove. Luke warm beans spoil the whole breakfast. But …. despite this it’s still an enjoyable visit.

The usual standard of Weatherspoon breakfast, although they did forget the side of black pudding but quickly rectified. Interesting history, having been the main post office until 2009.

Typical Wetherspoons fayre and standards. But.. Staff standout here as ambassadors to the hospitality industry and the company in a tough climate and especially locale in Abingdon. Jason on the bar is a natural " guest centric" deicated member and is worthy of recogniton. Tom, managing as a supervisor needs his own business one day as really cares. Rest of the team ( Sorry no names) just excel also. The team just excels on a tough trading environment and its great to see. Edit..Still outstanding. Any new staff member just seems to add to the experience and are guest focused 100*. Defo a standout place purely from a staffing point of view, 130%.

So— it was breakfast with an old friend. It’s an Ok venue, the service is friendly and accommodating (but obviously not silver service.) The breakfast was perfectly acceptable. Two decent rashers of bacon, an acceptable sausage , two hash browns, toast and baked beans. This comes with refillable tea or coffee at a good standard and all for just over £3.00. Unbeatable bargain.

My friend goes to this Weatherspoons for breakfast occasionally because it’s good value and suggested I came along. It is amazingly good value! For just over £3 you get the full English plus decent help yourself tea or coffees. It’s not the smartest of places and the breakfast is not top notch but it’s all very acceptable and an absolute bargain. Def going there again.

Came here 3 years ago and it was really good. Went for lunch today. Food was overcooked and no where near as nice. Young boy that served us was really rude and obviously didn't want to be there. On a better note, the new manager was lovely and the Guinness really good

Awful place one male member of staff was extremely rude and shouted at me he made me feel extremely worthless for no reason at all and I don’t think he deserves a job within this establishment and didn’t even bother giving me a straw extremely lazy member of staff

Food was good, service was good as well. I had an accident with my order when the waiter brought us , the bbq small pot fell into my shorts, but they sorted it out, they gave us free desert and also offered to pay for the dry cleaner. Accidents happen, it's how you address them that matters. So well done to Tom for taking the action and trying to sort it out.

Cheap food and friendly service couldn't make up for the awful toilet maintenance in this bland addition to the Wetherspoon empire. In a town filled with pubs, try somewhere (anywhere) else.

It was very busy but the staff were friendly, polite , food was good and came out in good time , only thing I could criticise was tables were not cleared very quick after other customers left so people were sitting with other customers dirty plates on their tables

Popped in for lunch with a friend, The bar staff were very happy and welcoming, and as we ordered pointed out the lunchtime deal, so almost halved our bill 😀. Food was well cooked and the as expected nice for the price " spoons" dinner, except at half price so bargain, Will visit again.

£2.10 for a pint of Stowford Press. They even had a TV showing the Euros.

I’m not the guy that cares much about service, but this was worst experience of my life, one of the waiter was super nice but other was, seems under 18, working to get his first money, was super angry and was looking with hate at us every time anything was delivered to us. Food is horrible, not worth even it’s cheap, I remember onion rings being better but probably I was drunk. Drinks are fine and worth the price. Big issue as well is not enough space and it’s very loud inside, without music.

The place offers a variety of beer and food. However, the utensils could be cleaner as the water residue always remains.

Perfect to grab a bite to eat a nd a drink, prior to boarding your plane!

The food was really good! Massive improvement from the last time we ate here. But the young lad bringing our food was absolutely miserable! (He was wearing all black, short hair) Didn’t say a word to us.. literally not one word! Maybe some more training in service? The other young lad that brought the drinks over was happy and bubbly. (Glasses, longish brownish hair)

A large venue which was absolutely heaving with people when we visited late on a Saturday afternoon. Lots of nice touches with the decor throughout paying homage to the building’s previous use as a Post Office. Didn’t eat here but the food coming out looked on par with any other Wetherspoons that I’ve visited.

Love Weatherspoons, but this is the worst one we've visited. Everything was overcooked. Tried it twice and won't be eating here again, which is a shame as it's the most local to us. Cowley, Oxford & Henley, so much better quality.

I was served by an amazing server - Tom Marshall, he was very kind and considerate and made sure our food was alright when we stepped away from the Table. He was excellent while serving food and was training a new joiner with utmost kindness, efficiency and concentration. Thank you for making my first visit such a lovely visit, Tom. Cheers and keep up the good work!

Like any wetherspoons, nice place for a casual drink. The food is where this place shines!! Delicious food, and unbelievably great prices!! We had two large all-day brunches with two soft drinks, and a large side of onion rings, for under £10! I actually asked if that was really the price, I couldn't believe it!! Thanks Wetherspoons! My son had an awesome birthday!! PS. Warm cookie dough with ice cream was amazing!! My 13yo son and I shared one but you can get mini ones if you're nearly full but don't want to share!

You can't really complain about a spoons and this one you definitely can't. Service was quick, staff friendly. The food was great. It's a nice-looking pub. It has a little outside seating area. Toilets are you guessed it they are upstairs but they are very clean and tidy on our visit.

It's Wetherspoons so you know what you're getting so the 5 star is not sure to gourmet but just that it's such value but no frills but this venue is really attractive and comfortable.

Ordered through the app, haven't been to whether spoons in years so thought we would give it a try. Prices looked enticing at first but my god was the food quality dreadful, maybe it was an off day but every time I picked something from the menu it told me it was out of stock, after picking about 7 different foods I landed on a double cheeseburger and my partner on her halloumi salad. Our drinks came very quickly, the food however took roughly 25 minutes, which would be acceptable if it was good food but the 'cheese' burger had believe it or not no cheese and was basically a plain burger with two semi warm bits of beef and a slice of pickle in the middle. The halloumi smelled... Old? It had a strange aftertaste as if it had gone off so we promptly decided to drink our drinks and ditch the food. Definitely not worth the money or the wait. Won't be going again.

Good food at great price. Good ales on tap. Nice calm atmosphere, good decor. Decent service. Loads of indoor space. Small outdoor space. Overall great experience, highly recommended for groups or just for great value food & drink. Thanks spoons!

Honestly for the money this is without doubt best breakfast around

Went here today for lunch as i was in town shopping,i ordered a cheese and ham pannini. After waiting for 50 minutes it finally arrived and i was disgusted there was no cheese or ham in it, it was just the pannini roll.

Came in after work had a few drinks and unwinding after a busy day ordered the mixed grill absolutely amazing 🙂 love coming to the narrows lovely place to just relax with good food and a pint

Food was great as always. My only complaint is the food over half an hour to be brought to us as there only seemed to be 1 member of staff on food.

The tables were sticky and full.of dirty plates and glasses. When I asked if one could be wiped down, I was given a cloth and spray to do it myself when it wasn't particularly busy. The drinks are cheaper

If you are looking for cheap drinks and food this is the place. Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest days of the week and sometimes feels too overcrowded. Staff do try their best but it can take up to 25 minutes to get a drink from the app or even 10 minutes waiting at the bar. If you like a busy, loud atmosphere this is the place for you but if you like a quiet place for a drink I'd recommend anywhere else.

Had a bad experience with the manager today, Sunday 14 January.. Ordered coffee and one machine broken and the other machine was empty. I asked to get it filled and waited 10 minutes before asking for a refund. Another 5 minutes waiting for the manager who then challenged me as to why I wanted a refund and I told her I was unwilling to keep waiting, 15 minutes now. She then rudely accused me of being impolite. I told her she needed to respect her customers a little more rather than confronting them when they legitimately ask for a refund . The same manager over the past few months has had run ins with other customers I know. This is not good Weatherspoons! Won't be back.

Ordered on the app for on a Friday lunch time. Quick service, clean throughout, standard the toilets are upstairs as per the usual for a Spoons.

I'm absolutely disappointed. There is nobody to take your order, the staff cares about nothing at all. They look very unhappy working there. It looks more like a big warehouse, no music at all. The toilets were smelly and dirty. There's nothing good to be said... Highly not recommend

Typically of spoons venues. No music, no atmosphere, hardly any beers left, but it's the only place to go late for that last drink of the evening. Service was awful and very slow, presumably because it was close to last orders and the staff wanted to finish up.

Toilets are disgusting, staff sign the checks off and just walk back out… absolutely vial!

I had a half chicken with lemon and herb, was lovely cooked and juicy, served on time, the staff was a really smiley and friendly, also the atmosphere was amazing with the real fireplace, so all was amazing 😊😊😊

Nice place. I mean, it's a 'spoons, so don't expect fine dining, but it was clean, friendly, and pleasant to be in with friends, so, yeah.

This was a terrible meal. Tables were dirty food was cold and wrongly delivered. Ordered ham got cold thick bacon slice ordered normal peas got mushy. Would have complained but couldn't find the staff.

Venue was okay, Yet when we order food My burger was half done, not coming with chilli and naga dip, Chips and onion rings cold We complained and wanted a replacement- staff was rather rude and abrupt and said she would… yet nearly 45 min later im sat here with no replacement Mt brother got a jalfreize, the curry was somewhat okay, but nan bread was Like crackers, not garlic for when we paid it, and the samosa and Onion barji wasnt cooked- frozen still inside!!! Staff was busy yet they took a while attending to us!!

Nipped in (for what what we hoped would be a quick stop) with two small children who needed emergency sustenance. Unfortunately, service took an age and was a touch grumpy - but their food, when it came, was surprisingly good (in particular, the fish was excellent; a generous portion, piping hot with crunchy batter). I'd maybe avoid the Doom Bar, which seemed watery

visited on 15/10/23 with my partner for breakfast - I normally rate spoons for a good breakfast after a night out but this one was poor. My wife asked for scrambled egg with her breakfast which came out as a friend egg mashed up & to have her bacon cooked well done which they gave her undercooked. My diet coke tasted watered down, practically no fizz. Shame but wouldn't bother visiting again.

Absolute s£%t show, staff completely incapable of serving people in order. Manager just walking around without a care in the world (Carl i think) waited our fair turn but didn't get served, left for another pub...

My local spoons - good interior design for a Whetherspoons and similar quality service as expected (if not better as the establishment is less busy than city alternatives). Staff has changed over the years but has been usually very nice and friendly. Food is as standard for a Wetherspoons establishment, but the venue is great for an evening with some friends and some great value drinks. At the time of writing a Carlsberg has hovered at £2.66 for years, making it one of the cheapest largers you can find. Wish we could have drinks outside for a bit longer as currently we are not allowed outside with glasses from 10pm.

The Narrows is just a few yards West of the main square in Abingdon and offers the usual Wetherspoons fare. I was there for breakfast, which was the usual excellent value; it's open from 8am on a Sunday and earlier in the week. The pub is cavernous despite not appearing very large from the frontage. The only odd feature was that when I arrived a lot of the chairs were wet where they had been cleaning them.

Excellent value and good traditional food. Will visit again when in Abingdon.

Got told to stop drinking alcohol off the basis I looked young, despite having a drivers license and passport. Lady serving us was unhappy she got proven wrong when she questioned my age. Threatened to remove me if I continued. Absolute idiocy

Completely appalled by the service in this place! Was told last drinks were at 1am and we had 20 mins to finish, bouncer intimidated us into leaving within 10 mins after last order drinks! Badgered us every 5 mins because he had 'another job' to go too. Joke! Would rather donate my money elsewhere!! Would not come here again!.... Addendum 0923 - Still utterly appealing service

Food wasn't cooked raw and gravy cold only one young lass cleaning table's bringing food out and she was the only one that said sorry about food that wasn't cooked no one else come to us won't be going there again

Great food and drink. Always reasonably priced and lots of seating.

Very disappointed. Chips that went with main meals were leftovers from a previous frying, they were stone cold. It was bought to the shift managers attention and he took affected meals away with an apology. When our meals returned, well I'll be honest..I believe the same chips had been refried and dropped back onto the plated meals that had spent all that time under a heatlamp, leaving dried out / rubberised food. One of the other meals had something on it that claimed to be a steak, however it would not cut, so a member of our party asked what it was and explained it wouldn't cut. The shift manager, at that point gathered another steak knife, stabbed it into the mystery lump and deftly carried his 'speared quarry' aloft towards the kitchen. On his return he informed us .. and I QUOTE.. The chef wasn't sure what it was, but not to worry because he'd put an extra bit on incase. Probably wont go back again.. we don't go out often enough to be disappointed like that

They no longer do the Chicken and Rib combo, which I used to go in there for. The person at the till wasn't sure, and I had to ask her to go and find out, she eventually reluctantly did. The server was good. I would not fault her. I had their spicy chicken. The marinade used on it is not pleasant. Tasted too vinigery rather than spicy. I have warm chocolate sponge and ice cream for dessert... that was absolutely delicious 😋

Great range of breakfasts, but you will get what you pay for. Not top draw quality but very good value for money.

Everything is ok except it would be great if a larger selection of vegetarian/ vegan meals was offered. Baked fish (in breadcrumbs or batter) and baked chips would be a dream for health food lovers. But perhaps I am now somewhat writing outside the scope of this review.

I truly liked this pub. There's just something about it. Friendly and relaxed. Ok, I've been to loads of spoons around the country, and they are all a nice familiar home from home. But, this spoons has a special vibe. Ticks all the expected spoons boxes with a little Friendly extra 😀 😍🥳

Place is always dirty and tables are left full of empty plates and glasses for hours. Bar staff are rude and lack people skills. Not an overall pleasant experience. Lets not mention the toilets! Shame because it wouldn't take much effort to rectify, I would avoid for food due to lack of hygiene.

Their Ops manager needs to buy them a toaster because when you order beans on toast you really do want some toast and not bread with 24 beans on it..

Lovely venue, very quiet when we visited for breakfast. No early morning drinkers 😁. Great breakfast and the service was excellent. Only problem was the coffee machine wasn't working properly so I couldn't get a mocha and had to settle for a lovely latte instead 😊.

The narrows Abingdon. It was more like a canteen. Not very nice. So noisy no carpets.at the rear of the premises. Tables dirty sticky Ordered food arrived 30mins later. Couldnt eat my jacket potato and chilly it was cold and very little of it.. They did reimburse me without any quibble. The disabled toilet:, you couldn't lock it. Lock broken my friend had to stand guard. Not a pleasant experience.

W przeciągu ostatnich lat pub upadł na pysk. Jedzenie i czystości poniżej jakichkolwiek oczekiwań. Myślę że gdyby zarząd sieci zajął się utrzymaniem jakiegoś standardu jakości a nie udowadnianiem jak świetną decyzją był Brexit , było by o wiele lepiej. W tym wypadku sytuacja pokazuje jak w soczewce co przyniosły błędne decyzje.

Reluctant to change barrel. Too many tall chairs. Needs lower comfortable chairs. Would encourage people to stay longer!

When this Weatherspoons first opened on Abingdon High Street it was very good, but now the staff are clearly run ragged most tables want clearing
