Visited as a group of 7 for the festive menu. Unfortunately, it wasn't great. The menu choices were made in advance via the website. However, on the night, one of the starters was wrong, and one of the mains was wrong, although the chef did rectify the main. 2 guests didn't order desserts. However, 6 desserts was brought to the table. The starters were OK. The desserts were OK, the mains were cold, and the Brussels were like bullets. On the up side, the serving staff were great, very friendly, and accommodating. I add that We have eaten here previously without any issues.

The soup was barely hot - just warm and the surf and turf - well the prawns were over cooked and chewey and the steak overcooked as well , grisly and tough - the third bad steak I’ve had there . Staff were ok but one very surly and poker faced . Chips were reheated and onion rings tough and stale . There is a need to step up the game here as it very average . Coffee was ok and cheesecake ok . Location and parking are good and prices acceptable IF the food was better .

I've never been to a pub on a Friday lunch time that has no ale on tap. There were 2 staff behind the bar working flat out, so with that in mind the food service was slow. I can't blame the staff, but the landlord/lady should know better. The food that eventually came and was ok. They were having a beer delivery when I arrived, but ale takes time to stand before serving. All in a bad experience.

Please LISTEN to this review and stay clear! For your own sakes! Myself and my family decided on coming to this pub as we love Cobham and fancied trying out somewhere new for a roast dinner and to take my mother in law out for her birthday. We sat down and ordered our drinks and food. Before the food arrived we finished our first round of drinks and was then told over half an hour later there was no beef on the menu. It took an hour for the food to arrive only to be met with child like portions, the cauliflower cheese was 1 cauliflower and no cheese, carrots rock hard, roast potatoes were like old frozen potatoes that had been in the freezer years and to our distugst my brother in law picked up a potato and squeezed it with his fingers, much like rinsing a wet cloth (and I mean loads) of water come out the potatoes. We looked at the rest of them and they were frozen in the middle. We were missing Yorkshire puddings so I asked when they would be coming out but we were told they had ran out! To compensate we asked for some extra pigs in blankets. Although once trying the dinner as I was very hungry I regrettably bite into a pig in blanket to find the sausage was completely RAW in the middle. These are just a few of the things that were bad, believe me there was much more. By this time I’d had enough and asked to speak to the manager. After showing her what we’d experienced, I explained I was not happy to pay for any food just our drink. No sincere apology was given and how the staff thought serving this food was acceptable is beyond me. Iv never in my life experienced such awful food or had to walk out of a meal which was extremely disappointing! For a green king I would have expected better!!! My worst food experience ever. If I could rate less I would.

Don’t come here! Allowed us to order, when food arrived no Yorkshire puddings as they had ran out, ran out of eggs and flour? Really? Laughable! Waited an hour to be told they are running low! Walked out before eating! Would never return! Rude staff when called out about poor service. Care more about the £ note than customer satisfaction.

Terrible service. Told 30 minute wait for food, no word from the bar staff for an hour, then told food is coming, 15 minute wait, then told a problem with the gas in the kitchen and food would be 5 minutes. Cancelled the order and then had a very miserable barmaid take my money for the drinks we had. Customer service was non-existent. Rude staff.

I gave The Ship Inn four stars about two years ago, and we’ve returned a few times since. It is a lovely pub with a decent Greene King menu and the staff have always been pleasant. The wait to take your order and get the food was longer than usual, although the pub was not noticeably busy. We ordered and got our food about an hour after arriving. There were two issues. No lemon to squeeze on the calamari’s, which the server forgot a second time, and I mentioned that I’d asked for chips rather than fries with my meal. I didn’t want to wait any longer, so I said I was happy to keep the fries. Without hesitation the server mentioned that this was because they had ran out of chips and apologised. Fair enough I thought. However, I then overheard the table next to us order dishes with chips and even asked to confirm they were fat chips. Their different server didn’t mention anything about the chips not being available. Sure enough, when their order arrived proper fat chips a plenty on each plate! Mistakes happen, and occasional poor service happens, but I draw the line and being LIED TO. I am furious. Good customer service should make up for any mistake, but it never needs to involve LYING. We will never return to this pub, which is a shame, because we rather liked it.

Really sad. Been here many times, but today was pitiful. Ignored while waiting at the bar, ordered food and a kids roast. It was awful. Served up what was clearly frozen veg and a potato that I wanted to adopt and take home because it looked so miserable. Staff were moaning about the number of diners, no turkey and generally a miserable experience . Not what it was. UPDATE** Review was replied to and apology received and gesture offered. I responded and never heard another thing. Maybe it was added just to give the impression that it matters???

Booked a table for 2pm, arrived at 1.45pm and was shown to a table in the restaurant. As son has a nut allergy was told the waitress would go & find the allergy folder but she never came back. After waiting for 45 minutes still no member of staff had been to the table. No explanation or apology for the delay. We finally went to the bar & had to order & collect our own drink. Whilst still waiting at the table, the group next to us sent back their roast dinners when they finally arrived & when they returned the dinners, were told if they wanted roast potatoes it would be another 30 minutes. Customers said the cauliflour cheese was hard & rest of food was cold. They were given a refund & left. We were still waiting to be served. In the end we gave up waiting. As there were 2+ large parties in the restaurant 30+ diners, who were there before us still waiting for food. We left having only had 3 drinks which we ordered at the bar & collected ourselves. When I went to the bar to say we were leaving there were 5 staff behind the bar & no customers. There was no apology for the wait or us leaving hungry. This was our first visit to this pub & we will not be returning. If you cannot cater for a full restaurant you should not take the bookings.

This pub/restaurant was recommended to us. When we arrived there seemed to be some sort of event going on with classic British and American cars and bikes in the car park. There was some delay in being served (we think that they had not engaged sufficient staff to cope with the demand). We booked in advance, there were 6 in our party and despite the restaurant being empty we were seated by the staff on the route to the Ladies toilet (a constant procession). From our party we ordered 4 Lamb Shanks and two other meals The two other meals and three of the lamb shanks appeared to be fine, but one Lamb Shank was still frozen, with hot gravy poured over it. When this was pointed out the staff were very apologetic offering not to charge for the main course, starter and dessert for the individual who received the frozen food. WE decided we would not return.

My local pub 20 years ago when I lived in the village. Large car park, so you shouldn't have difficulty finding a space. I went on a Wednesday lunchtime and couldn't find an inside seat, so pre-booking a table recommended. I had difficulty finding something suitable for diabetics but ended up with chicken strips & spicy dip from the starters. Outside seating some with umbrellas. Limited real ale. A pleasant pub and worth a visit. Lovely village setting.

Best roast we’ve eaten out in a long while ( and we’ve eaten out at a lot of pubs for Sunday roast and been charged fine dining prices for very naff food…. Went for father's day lunch. Arrived early in the service about 12.15. Had booked a table and seated quickly. Told by the waiting staff that there were quite a few items not on the menu- new potatoes, mash, halloumi and onion rings. Was not shown the specials menu- would have changed what was ordered by the table. During ordering the waitress asked us to wait a minute mid order whilst dealing with another issue. Went with a friend on 3 year anniversary of wifes passing as it was the first pub we went too officially as a couple. Nicely tucked away in Cobham village, Kent. Pub very clean and good friendly service. Unfortunately it was spoiled by a large group of youngsters shouting, swearing and generally being a pain, reminiscing about the fight they had with each other at a night club the weekend before. Continuously take they sporty hatchbacks as fast as they could out of the car park, a pure accident waiting to happen. We could have moved inside but it was a pleasant evening so why should we. I did feel sorry for the pub as overall it was lovely but I feel they behaviour could tarnish it which would be a massive shame. We will go back to try again as the food looked lovely and except for the few was a good atmosphere

Myself my partner and 2 other couples have attempted to visit this pub this evening. As we were walking from our cars to the entrance to the pub we noticed a bar tender come from behind the bar and lock the front door. At the same time as other patrons were ordering at the bar and having their drinks made. After standing at the door for a few moments and being ignored by the staff inside we walked back to our cars. As we drove off we noticed that the bar tender came to the door seemingly smiling and unlocked the door for new customers to come inside. We are aware that the pub closes at 11pm as we have been here many times before. It was absolutely atrocious customer service from the staff working. I felt like we were discriminated against because we look young, despite us just wanting to enjoy a quick drink.

Well, where do I start?! This is a complete gem of a pub! ❤️ My friend and I had driven down from South London to where I grew up to attend to some business, and I remembered visiting a pub in Cobham, so we drove to Cobham, but were disappointed with the pub I remembered. We decided that The Ship Inn looked nice, so we opted to go there instead. Well, it was perfect! Lottie, the wonderful bar lady showed us to our seats, and she intuitively recognised that my friend, who has mobility problems, needed a comfortable and soft seat, so she suggested that we sat in the comfy seats in the main bar area rather than the restaurant seats. She assured us that we’d still get waitress service, which we did. This was such a lovely gesture and showed insight, compassion and care, which we both appreciated. The food was delicious! My friend had a sirloin steak cooked to perfection and I had risotto, which I have to say, was the best I’ve ever had. Lottie was attentive, warm and friendly and a lovely genuine person. She explained that the coffee machine had given up after 25 years’ dedicated and devoted service, so we couldn’t have coffee or tea, but she was in the process of doing her best to get a new machine. We fully support her in her campaign. 👏🏻 Lottie explained to us that she is a ‘woman on a mission’ for the sake of her pub, and it shows in her high standards of care and quality service. The pub is clean and comfortable and the food and drinks are excellent. Our compliments to the chef! My friend and I left feeling that we’d had a fantastic dining experience in this gorgeous quaint and historic pub. Lottie is an asset to the pub and the management company. We look forward to returning when we are in the area again. Thank you so much Lottie - you’re brilliant! 🥰

Nice pub but way way to slow service. Second pub we had gone to with friends on our Christmas walk, the first pub was a complete disaster. We ordered drinks and food and was told there would be a wait, no problem. The problem is why is the land lord employing only two people to run a pub and kitchen during the Christmas holiday period. This is clearly not enough as the second drink we ordered I waited for at least 10 minutes with know one behind the bar. Don't get me wrong I have no problem with the staff just the fact that the land lord thinks this is acceptable. No wonder the great British pub is a dying commodity.. Edit 3 Feb 2024, the worst food I've had in a long time..out with good friends so said nothing. Fish was more batter than fish, starters burnt, far far better elsewhere.

Brussel sprouts that you could even put a fork into left alone cut into or chew. Then we get to desserts. This is where thing turn from ridiculous to down right dangerous one of the party has an allergy when the server was asked was the dessert the one she requested the response was “it should be” Given that people have died after an allergic reaction “it should be” isn’t an acceptable answer. After complaining we only paid for the drinks and quite rightly so as most of it was in edible. Not once did the manager come and speak to us.

Disappointed that we missed Sunday service....at 8pm food we had day before was spot on except pastry on pie was really thick and too hard for me. Will definitely be back next year

This is a nice pub for lunch. The food is ok and there’s a good choice. My brother and I went on a Tuesday and it was quite popular. Which brings me to my but……the young lady who works there was on her own. She was taking orders, bringing food and drink for people in the restaurant but also serving bar. She was all on her own, with no help whatsoever. She did a grand job but it’s not right that she was alone.

Nice comfortable pub. Good menu. We had the senior menu which is reduced portion sizes. £6.99 for two courses. More than enough for lunchtime. + 2 lattes 1 tea £20.75.

Very close to our accom. With a good “pub grub” range . We both had the flavoursome the lasagne & salad with a glass of red for an economical meal. Plenty of parking . Staff were friendly & efficient.

What a lovely pub this is, in a lovely village. The waitress who served us was very friendly and, couldn't have been any more helpful. The food was delicious. My mother and I had the beef pie and was what I would expect from a country pub, full to the brim with meat and gravy. The portion sizes were no way shy. My son had chicken strips and helped himself to the gravy off my plate which he said was 'the best gravy ever'. Great value for money. Will be coming back.

'OK' just about sums this pub up. Two meals one was ok for the price (no complaint here) but the other one was decidedly below par, a so called award winning pie was overcooked and dried up. Pastry was like concrete. The accompanying mash was reasonable at best. One member of staff at least looked like they would rather be somewhere else but the rest were nice enough. Atmosphere? It's a bit lacking in that department and it needs a good redecoration, not modernising and themed just a good make over. Cobham is lucky to have three functioning pubs in a one hundred yard main street and this one needs to up its game in almost all respects.

Very disappointed. My wife and her friends had booked lunch at 12:15 on Wednesday 6th. They arrived and the pub was shut because of a chip pan fire. The pub had made no contact to say that they were shut. Very unprofessional.

Found this pub restaurant last week when looking for somewhere to eat rather than the hotel restaurant, Advertised as traditional pub grub, great menu something for everyone, separate menu's for adults, children, vegans, gluten free and for senior citizens at lunch time. Staff friendly and helpful, large car park. plenty of choice on menu with some money saving options, we ate her twice and average cost per sitting for two people having 2 courses and a round of drinks was £35. I just wish it was closer to where I live,

The Ascot is one of those pubs that deserve to be there. Dog friendly, tidy and appealing to look at, this is a place that deserves to be discovered and frequented on a regular basis.
