Eaten here a couple of times, up till today it’s been ok, staff was friendly but clearly over stretched, today my Sunday lunch looked like it had been thrown on to the plate from 50ft away, frozen veg & lack of meat was very disappointing. Booked a Sunday roast for five people. We waited almost an hour for our food. When it did arrive it was quite awful. We complained, but still paid in full (£78.00) Not much point in apologising afterwards. If you want customers, save your apologies and get it right to begin with!

Popped in after a walk in the local area. Service was ok, could be better though maybe. Was left standing at the bar with no smile, no welcome, no "be with you in a minute" ..... follow up service was good though, so could easily be better or improved. Menu price mentioned a deal from £8.99 but the price is paid was way more than that, and it was not explained at the till, again a lack of customer service at that point. Food took a while, but it was a little busy. Food was OK, lacked sauce, fries were nice but not exactly as described. It's nice inside. Plenty of space in the car park, but has a few big potholes.

Well I take my hat off to the two ladies who were front of house and not forgetting the kitchen too. The service was friendly and prompt. I arrived just after 12.00 but the normal 12.45 - 13.00 rush insued. Most of whom had not booked and wanted to be sat at a table yesterday!! But Ashlea and her team mate( sorry I did not catch your name). Delt with the rush very efficiently and professionally. I had the belly pork starter which was well presented and tasty. Followed by the rump steak ciabatta with chunky chips. I asked for the rump to be rare which it was and cooked perfectly, but the meat was rather tough. I should have gone for medium, which would have helped I'm sure. But the steak quality was not very good hence the 4/5 mark. I finished off with an Americano and mini brown. I will definitely be returning. Ps if people could just take a couple of minutes to call and make reservations, business could then staff accordingly Happy dining

Myself and my daughter have just come back from The Ship at Cobham. We had a lovely warm greeting when we entered the pub. Two ladies behind the bar young lady with dark hair and the other lady was called Bal. Both ladies friendly and helpful. We ordered drinks, one starter with the mains and one dessert. All were fab. Have been here a few times and will definitely be going back. Bal chatted to us at the end. There was also a man who cleared our plates and asked if we wanted desserts. Friendly pub with great food. Worth a visit and even better that I used my blue light discount.

After visiting today to give the pub one last try after numerous chances to improve on the poor customer service we have previously experienced, this was very disappointing yet again. My partner and I went in for lunch, no welcome on arrival, after looking at the menu in full view of the waitress, my partner went to the bar to order food when he was rudely told it was a 45 minute wait as they were ‘very busy’ with out waiting for our response if we were going to order the member of staff walked off with no apology. This isn’t the first time we have received rude and unwelcoming behaviour from the same lady (long dark brown hair female)

Visited as a group of 7 for the festive menu. Unfortunately, it wasn't great. The menu choices were made in advance via the website. However, on the night, one of the starters was wrong, and one of the mains was wrong, although the chef did rectify the main. 2 guests didn't order desserts. However, 6 desserts was brought to the table. The starters were OK. The desserts were OK, the mains were cold, and the Brussels were like bullets. On the up side, the serving staff were great, very friendly, and accommodating. I add that We have eaten here previously without any issues.

Please LISTEN to this review and stay clear! For your own sakes! Myself and my family decided on coming to this pub as we love Cobham and fancied trying out somewhere new for a roast dinner and to take my mother in law out for her birthday. We sat down and ordered our drinks and food. Before the food arrived we finished our first round of drinks and was then told over half an hour later there was no beef on the menu. It took an hour for the food to arrive only to be met with child like portions, the cauliflower cheese was 1 cauliflower and no cheese, carrots rock hard, roast potatoes were like old frozen potatoes that had been in the freezer years and to our distugst my brother in law picked up a potato and squeezed it with his fingers, much like rinsing a wet cloth (and I mean loads) of water come out the potatoes. We looked at the rest of them and they were frozen in the middle. We were missing Yorkshire puddings so I asked when they would be coming out but we were told they had ran out! To compensate we asked for some extra pigs in blankets. Although once trying the dinner as I was very hungry I regrettably bite into a pig in blanket to find the sausage was completely RAW in the middle. These are just a few of the things that were bad, believe me there was much more. By this time I’d had enough and asked to speak to the manager. After showing her what we’d experienced, I explained I was not happy to pay for any food just our drink. No sincere apology was given and how the staff thought serving this food was acceptable is beyond me. Iv never in my life experienced such awful food or had to walk out of a meal which was extremely disappointing! For a green king I would have expected better!!! My worst food experience ever. If I could rate less I would.

I gave The Ship Inn four stars about two years ago, and we’ve returned a few times since. It is a lovely pub with a decent Greene King menu and the staff have always been pleasant. The wait to take your order and get the food was longer than usual, although the pub was not noticeably busy. We ordered and got our food about an hour after arriving. There were two issues. No lemon to squeeze on the calamari’s, which the server forgot a second time, and I mentioned that I’d asked for chips rather than fries with my meal. I didn’t want to wait any longer, so I said I was happy to keep the fries. Without hesitation the server mentioned that this was because they had ran out of chips and apologised. Fair enough I thought. However, I then overheard the table next to us order dishes with chips and even asked to confirm they were fat chips. Their different server didn’t mention anything about the chips not being available. Sure enough, when their order arrived proper fat chips a plenty on each plate! Mistakes happen, and occasional poor service happens, but I draw the line and being LIED TO. I am furious. Good customer service should make up for any mistake, but it never needs to involve LYING. We will never return to this pub, which is a shame, because we rather liked it.

Served up what was clearly frozen veg and a potato that I wanted to adopt and take home because it looked so miserable. Staff were moaning about the number of diners, no turkey and generally a miserable experience . Not what it was. UPDATE** Review was replied to and apology received and gesture offered. Booked a table for 2pm, arrived at 1.45pm and was shown to a table in the restaurant. As son has a nut allergy was told the waitress would go & find the allergy folder but she never came back. After waiting for 45 minutes still no member of staff had been to the table. No explanation or apology for the delay. We finally went to the bar & had to order & collect our own drink. Whilst still waiting at the table, the group next to us sent back their roast dinners when they finally arrived & when they returned the dinners, were told if they wanted roast potatoes it would be another 30 minutes. Customers said the cauliflour cheese was hard & rest of food was cold. They were given a refund & left. We were still waiting to be served. In the end we gave up waiting. As there were 2+ large parties in the restaurant 30+ diners, who were there before us still waiting for food. We left having only had 3 drinks which we ordered at the bar & collected ourselves. When I went to the bar to say we were leaving there were 5 staff behind the bar & no customers. There was no apology for the wait or us leaving hungry. This pub/restaurant was recommended to us. When we arrived there seemed to be some sort of event going on with classic British and American cars and bikes in the car park. There was some delay in being served (we think that they had not engaged sufficient staff to cope with the demand). We booked in advance, there were 6 in our party and despite the restaurant being empty we were seated by the staff on the route to the Ladies toilet (a constant procession). From our party we ordered 4 Lamb Shanks and two other meals The two other meals and three of the lamb shanks appeared to be fine, but one Lamb Shank was still frozen, with hot gravy poured over it. When this was pointed out the staff were very apologetic offering not to charge for the main course, starter and dessert for the individual who received the frozen food. WE decided we would not return.

Pub very clean and good friendly service. Unfortunately it was spoiled by a large group of youngsters shouting, swearing and generally being a pain, reminiscing about the fight they had with each other at a night club the weekend before. Continuously take they sporty hatchbacks as fast as they could out of the car park, a pure accident waiting to happen. We could have moved inside but it was a pleasant evening so why should we. I did feel sorry for the pub as overall it was lovely but I feel they behaviour could tarnish it which would be a massive shame. Myself my partner and 2 other couples have attempted to visit this pub this evening. As we were walking from our cars to the entrance to the pub we noticed a bar tender come from behind the bar and lock the front door. At the same time as other patrons were ordering at the bar and having their drinks made. After standing at the door for a few moments and being ignored by the staff inside we walked back to our cars. As we drove off we noticed that the bar tender came to the door seemingly smiling and unlocked the door for new customers to come inside. We are aware that the pub closes at 11pm as we have been here many times before. It was absolutely atrocious customer service from the staff working. I felt like we were discriminated against because we look young, despite us just wanting to enjoy a quick drink.

Well, where do I start?! This is a complete gem of a pub! ❤️ My friend and I had driven down from South London to where I grew up to attend to some business, and I remembered visiting a pub in Cobham, so we drove to Cobham, but were disappointed with the pub I remembered. We decided that The Ship Inn looked nice, so we opted to go there instead. Well, it was perfect! Lottie, the wonderful bar lady showed us to our seats, and she intuitively recognised that my friend, who has mobility problems, needed a comfortable and soft seat, so she suggested that we sat in the comfy seats in the main bar area rather than the restaurant seats. She assured us that we’d still get waitress service, which we did. This was such a lovely gesture and showed insight, compassion and care, which we both appreciated. The food was delicious! My friend had a sirloin steak cooked to perfection and I had risotto, which I have to say, was the best I’ve ever had. Lottie was attentive, warm and friendly and a lovely genuine person. She explained that the coffee machine had given up after 25 years’ dedicated and devoted service, so we couldn’t have coffee or tea, but she was in the process of doing her best to get a new machine. We fully support her in her campaign. 👏🏻 Lottie explained to us that she is a ‘woman on a mission’ for the sake of her pub, and it shows in her high standards of care and quality service. The pub is clean and comfortable and the food and drinks are excellent. Our compliments to the chef! My friend and I left feeling that we’d had a fantastic dining experience in this gorgeous quaint and historic pub. Lottie is an asset to the pub and the management company. We look forward to returning when we are in the area again. Thank you so much Lottie - you’re brilliant! 🥰

We chanced upon this pub while walking the Darnley Trail. The staff were friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was nice, and the food was tasty, fresh, and good value as we had a lunch time meal deal.

Really nice location and interior of pub was cosy. Unfortunately that’s where the positives stop. Our food was way over 1 hour from time of ordering. It arrived and two out of four of the meals were stone cold. The Yorkshire pud on our roast were cremated and inedible My daughter’s pizza was a microwaved frozen Chicago town pizza… No one came to ask if we were ok, if we needed more drinks not even to apologise the food was late and then cold. Won’t be visiting again.

Worst Sunday lunch. Waited nearly 2 hours, arrived cold. Supposed to be Turkey but was Chicken. No apologies or offer of a free drink. 2 children with us, very hungry. Toilets blocked up. Never again.

Seemed nice enough, barely any music just had to listen to people's conversations and knives on plates, was told there's no turkey but we have beef, no problem, wait 10mins to have our order taken to be told that wasn't true they have no roasts, bit poor service check with the kitchen before you tell false information

Had a lovely late lunch on a Saturday afternoon, first visit to the Ship. We had plans to eat in a nearby venue but was let down by their menu so found ourselves at The Ship (and were quite glad). Very friendly service from all of the ladies on shift today, helpful and chatty which added to the atmosphere. Food was delicious, katsu curry would be a particular recommendation, and was served quickly. Is a nice comfortable venue and would happily return.

Lovely atmosphere quite busy for a Tuesday lunchtime - senior men’s is excellent value - smaller portions but 3 courses for £7.99 absolute bargain - I was full and didn’t eat again that day! We spent more in our drinks than food 😂we spent nearly 5 hours there and didn’t feel pressured to move to the bar area or leave. Staff friendly and attentive - only criticism was the pub itself felt a bit cold but prefer that when eating rather than being too hot!

Nice pub but way way to slow service. Second pub we had gone to with friends on our Christmas walk, the first pub was a complete disaster. We ordered drinks and food and was told there would be a wait, no problem. The problem is why is the land lord employing only two people to run a pub and kitchen during the Christmas holiday period. This is clearly not enough as the second drink we ordered I waited for at least 10 minutes with know one behind the bar. Don't get me wrong I have no problem with the staff just the fact that the land lord thinks this is acceptable. No wonder the great British pub is a dying commodity.. Edit 3 Feb 2024, the worst food I've had in a long time..out with good friends so said nothing. Fish was more batter than fish, starters burnt, far far better elsewhere.

We had to wait for over a hour for our food. When we eventually got it my partners lasagne was hard on the bottom and inedible. My gammon was overcooked, gammon should not have any black on it. Overall very poor and will not be returning.

It was quiet but had a nice feel about it. Will go back to try the roast.had the dish and chips for a lunch but thought I got served the OAP portion, could have (and should have) been a little bigger. Quality was good though.

We visited here on a Sunday evening for dinner. As soon as we entered the young lady behind the bar was very welcoming and friendly. We didn't wait long at all for our food as it wasn't too busy in the pub. When the food did arrive we were very impressed, it was piping hot, fresh and really very nice, thoroughly enjoyed it. We will definitely be returning soon.

the service was slow. The slow roast beef was tough ( could have sole and heeled boots). Servings were minimal. Veg was good Sorry guys would not recommend

Lovely pub however it was extremely noisy as there was a large group booking in the middle of the restaurant. Maybe a review of where large parties are seated would help. Starters were good but disappointed in main meals. Drinks were slow to arrive but probably due to how busy the pub was. The young waitresses were really pleasant.

Great spot on the A2 on the Gravesend turnoff. Do great breakfasts and proper dinners, all week including weekends, free parking there as well.

The Ascot is one of those pubs that deserve to be there. Dog friendly, tidy and appealing to look at, this is a place that deserves to be discovered and frequented on a regular basis.
