Not been here before and though we would try.Looked nice on line, in a lovely village setting.Parking limited. Arrived and resturant was clean and busy for a midweek night. Seated quickly, as we had booked. Toilets very clean, i always check this before eating, as i think it gives you an idea of standards.Spotless. There seemed to be a large party seated, to the right in the room of the main bar, who seemed to be getting all the attention.Making you feel they were slightly understaffed. However, not asked about drinks for a while, and other guest served drinks, who were seated after we arrived.Think these people were local, so i suppose, you support regular customers first. Young man, serving our drinks from bar ,was lovely. Eventually served drinks and our order was taken. Man taking the main orders from tables, had not taken his happy pill that day and you could feel this from a customer perspective. Just had a pickle try to start, and it was very nice. However whilst eating they asked if they could bring our main meal. We felt as if we were being rushed. Food arrived, it was nice, but nothing special. Expected to be served on traditional indian table wear, but was not, as others were. Not sure,if this was beacause of what we ordered. Even at home i do this as adds to experience. I cannot say the food was poor as it was not.For me average, and would probaly not return again. Price wise a little on exspensive side for what we had ordered. Had a simlar meal the week before, at a resturant in Leeds, which was cheaper , but food was on par with Taj cottage. You would expect Leeds resturant to be more expensive. All in all not for me, and dissapointed it will not be a weekly go to for our family, as we eat out at least once a week , so we get all the family together at the same time.

The food and service is utterly disgusting. We booked in for the 30th September. However, when we arrived we were told that our table was given to someone else and that we'd have to wait another 10 mins. 10 minutes passed and we were told another 15 minutes. If it wasn't a birthday meal we would've left and gone to the Shaan Restaurant. When we sat down, we asked questions about some dishes on the menu only to be responded back with, "you're white, stick to the mild dishes". I was gob smacked with the waiter. I requested for the manger but the waiter had already stormed off muttering "honky" under his breathe. Disgusting and racist. I got up and immediately left with my family. Never again.

Wow! What a fantastic meal. Pappadams isn’t your usual Indian restaurant. Its’ pared- back, simple interior belies the beauty and sophistication of the dishes on the menu. Don’t be put off by its somewhat sparse interior since the welcome is as warm as the dishes are fine. This is an Indian restaurant of the first rank. We came here as a group of eight for a post work meal and were amazed at the variety on offer. Every thing has a fresh and exciting twist, from the relishes accompanying the warm poppadoms to the braised meats of the main courses. Alongside the familiar favourites there are some really interesting options beautifully made and presented. We had a mixture of vegetarian and meat dishes where the standouts here was the chicken biryani, exquisitely spiced and beautifully moist, and the mutton curry - the sauce was amazing alongside the freshly baked naans. We had a wonderful night and left full and happy and so will you.

Open take away kitchen. The food is great, cooked fresh to order and a few new curries to me and a few sides I've never heard of. Had Madras, Jalfrezi, Tikka Massala, Pathia and a few others. All were excellent and can be adjusted to taste if required. Good breads and rice. The guys are great, really friendly and happy yo modify recipes according to taste. The Jalfrezi is nicely spiced, I had on normal and another extra spicy, both excellent. The madras had loads of sauce and well spiced, hot and fragrant with moist chicken. Pathia is also quite spicy with lots of flavour. Chicken tika Massala was plenty of sauce, rich and creamy. Paratha are moist and buttery, nan warm and moist, perfect Peshwari nan! Highly reccomended for a good tasty take away, full of flavour, fresh...

Been to The New Shad many times for family meals always happy, staff are excellent and food the best I’ve ever had from any of many Indian restaurants. My favourite dish is Lamb Rogan Josh with Mushroom fried rice, called in last night to takeaway the mentioned dish to take home to Sittingbourne and after heating up when l got home l enjoyed as much as eating in restaurant. Great Chef thoroughly recommend

Incredible evening here. The food was lovely, but what set it apart from so many other places, was the service. The owner was really friendly and welcoming, and all the waitors / waitresses that served us were top notch. We loved the attention to detail as well as all the little extras offered at the end. Thank you. We will be back soon!!

I have been visiting this restaurant for 30 years and Joseph and his team have always been brilliant. I always had “balti chicken tikka rognee saucy” which isn’t on the menu. Always perfect. Sadly Joseph has retired and sold up so I won’t be able to go back to my fave restaurant. It’s now closed. I want to wish Joe and his team all the best. Martin F

We turned up to get our pre-booked table and the staff were unwelcoming and didn’t smile. I ordered a Carlsberg and got a Cobra and when I queried it, I was told they didn’t have any even though it was on the menu. We ordered starters which turned up luke warm. The main course was ok but nothing to write home about. My wife had the lamb achari, which she said didn’t have much flavour. I had the lamb malayan and if it wasn’t for the pineapple in it, it would’ve been completely bland. The staff need to show they are bothered about their customers and perhaps smile a bit more. The restaurant was just over half full and there was very little atmosphere. I wouldn’t recommend visiting this restaurant. The only plus side is that they forgot to charge us for the drink each we had. They never asked if we wanted another drink even though our glasses were empty half way through the starters.
