New Shad in Medway

Been to The New Shad many times for family meals always happy, staff are excellent and food the best I’ve ever had from any of many Indian restaurants. My favourite dish is Lamb Rogan Josh with Mushroom fried rice, called in last night to takeaway the mentioned dish to take home to Sittingbourne and after heating up when l got home l enjoyed as much as eating in restaurant. Great Chef thoroughly recommend

Just had one if not the best takeaways ever, the rice was fantastic light and fluffy as was the chicken vindaloo hot with a nice sauce. And the chicken tikka masala tasted so fresh. With popadums and nann breads a truly fantastic meal. Five star meal

I never ever do reviews but this is the one exception I will. Because it’s the best curry house I’ve ever been to. And I’ve been to a lot! I had a lamb rogan Josh and it was the best rogan Josh I’ve ever had. The lamb was so tender it fell apart and it was so tasty! Also had a keema naan and sag paneer and they were both amazing too. The staff were so polite and friendly and the price is really reasonable too! Will definitely be returning 😊

We booked as a group of 7 for our parents birthdays and from start to finish the staff were amazing!! The food is incredible and delivered quickly. After our mains we were all sufficiently full and we’re about to ask for the bill when the staff surprised us by bringing out a birthday cake with lit candles for mum. We were blown away by their kindness, but they then proceeded to offer us a round of drinks on them!!! I am never disappointed by the knowledge and kindness of the staff when we go here but this occasion really exceeded expectations. Amazing food and the best service of anywhere I have ever eaten!

Another outstanding meal with world class service at the New Shad accommodated us on Valentines at the last minute. Never rushed. Food extremely fresh, staff so friendly & a nice relaxing atmosphere. Restaurant very clean. Always an offer of a post dinner free drink love it there ♥️♥️🫦

We have been going to the New Shad for nearly 20 years and we wouldn't go anywhere else. We have tried other Indian restaurants that are a bit closer to us but these guys really set the standard for their outstanding food and service. Ali and the team always have time for a chat and offer helpful advice to someone exploring the menu for the first time.

My husband and friends ate here a few weeks back and although a bit tipsy afterwards, was raving about it. So, we decided to have a take away tonight and he was right! Gorgeous food, large pieces of chicken, hot when delivered and such a good price. I would highly recommend for eating in or take away. Free delivery within 4 miles too.

What a fantastic restaurant, we were visiting family who took us here (they have been here lots) and I’m so glad they did. From the outside it looks run down BUT oh my days when you walk inside it is fantastic, the restaurant is decorated so lovely well, light, modern and fresh. We where greeting the moment we stepped though the door we were shown to a lovely table. The menu is easy to read and understand what each dish was, the staff couldn’t do enough for us. The food was beautiful I can’t fault it. We had our 2 sons with us 10 & 8 and they had a great time the waiter joked with the boys and put them at ease. The food was amazing so fresh and tasted delicious. We can not recommend this place enough and can’t wait to visit again

Amazing service, very welcoming and courteous. The food was ready on time and piping hot just as we like it. The food itself was unbelievably good, way beyond our expectations. It made me burp wonderful things. The korma was stunning, cooked to perfection. And I even tried something called saag paneer which trust me, is worth ordering if you get the chance.

My husband states it was like eating in a teenagers bedroom with constant changing lights. We were not warmly welcomed on a quiet Sunday night into a restaurant with 3 tables who were nearly finished. Whilst there only one other customer arrived. Although polite, there was an edge to the service. The food generally well seasoned & presented. Lamb very tough, channa masala bland & peshawari naan leathery & tasteless. We have very light appetites & politely cleared our plates. Never discussed eating somewhere else again on the way home as we were still "left wanting". Quite an unusual experience.

Got the wrong order delivery something spicy instead instead of a mild dish it was a diss sprint as usually its a great place to eat

First time here for us, used to go to one nearby but thought we'd try this out and glad we did.. The minute we walked through the door we received a warm welcome and all the staff were very customer focused. Every course was piping hot and to be fair exceeded our expectations which was delicious. Food was served in a timely fashion. Staff knew everything about the menu which made us feel confident in our choice. Decor was very tasteful modern and inviting. This restaurant will now be our restaurant of choice if we go out for an Indian meal from now on, we have tried other Restaurants in the area and in our opinion this deserves to be #1 on Trip Advisor we shall be looking forward to our next visit and would highly recommend the Dining in experience here - Well Done A*

Every dish was so tasty and after not visiting for many months it was a welcome treat. Forhad Tapader our waiter and all the staff looked after us so well as always.

My husband and I come here at least once a fortnight, we absolutely love it and we HAVE NEVER had a bad meal or experience. The food is literally the best around anywhere and always perfect. The staff make us feel like family and it feels like home when we come here. We have been coming here for years and I can honestly say NEVER have we had a bad meal. If it was my last meal I would want to come here xx

My friends and I visited this restaurant for a birthday meal. There were several flies in the restaurant and the waiters were trying to shoo them away. Unfortunately, I found a dead fly in my starter. I reported this to the waiter who replied “oh my days” and laughed. I spoke to him again about it and told him that actually it wasn’t funny to find a dead fly in my food and he continued to laugh. I then spoke to the manager who stated that he would offer our table free shots as an apology (even though all the tables had free shots ) No remorse. No discount. No apology from the waiter. I definitely wouldn’t visit again

Went recently on the government scheme, but didn't seem any cheaper, the bill was unreadable and couldn't be bothered with the argument, it came to nearly £75 for 2 adults and a child, I put £80 on the tray and the man disappeared not to be seen again, I would like the opportunity to choose my own tip, and not assume it.

Attended by invitation. A family run restaurant coping well during difficult times (covid) our waiter was witty, funny and friendly. Nicely presented dining area, which is well air-conditioned made for a comfortable relaxed atmosphere. Drinks and starters were served promptly and were all enjoyed by our members. The mains were nice and again well presented. In all a nice evening which went by far to quick.

Fantastic food and excellent knowledge of food allergies. Substitutions were made, at their suggestion, to accommodate son’s severe egg and nut allergy.

I gave up on ordering Indian food as it’s always so disappointing. This was 10/10 the best chicken tikka I have had in so many years. Nan breads were full of flavour which so many other places slack will be my new Indian. I never write reviews. This was spot on

Just had a takeaway,Chicken tikka masala,..Exquisite..Full of flavour,rich and creamy.Lamb saag Madrass..Beautiful tender lamb,just about madrass heat,will go for the vindaloo next time,but sooo tasty,Mixed starter chick tikka 2 pieces kofte an₹ lamb tikka served with onion salad and sauce x 2.. Saag aloo which was full of spinach and super tasty.nan and poppadams.First time ordering from here,certainly won’t be the last,been hunting for ages for a really good curry house..think I’ve found it !..Yum

Have made many visits to the new shad and I have never been disappointed visited again on the 14th March for my birthday treat the food and service was excellent I expected nothing less , friendly staff , wonderful food and a good ambiance, would recommend to everyone who enjoys quality Indian food

Called up to get a take away. Man on the phone was rude. Wouldn’t let me speak. Told him my address which I then needed to tell him where it actually was as it’s. New build and hard to find. Again wouldn’t let me get a word in edgeways. Then told me he doesn’t know where it is not down to him he just tells the driver the postcode. Phone down lost the order. You don’t deserve the business cheer up!

We visited the new shad as part of a party of 12 Staff where incredibly attentive funny & charming, food was piping hot & delicious, the cobras where cold & refreshing what more could you ask for

Booking table over telephone was easy. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly staff & immediately shown to our table. Very quickly our drink order was taken & served quickly too. Food orders made & double checked by the waiter. Poppadoms & dips appeared/gratefully consumed before main course served. Main meal was served hot (temperature). Main meal was very tasty. At the end of the meal we were served complimentary a Baileys Crean liqueur. Throughout the meal there was no sense that we had stayed too long -2 hours plus. Not sure if it was the Manager or Owner, who towards the end of our stay, came to our table to have a chat. Great experience & look forward to many more visits/take outs. Thank you New Shad.

My Husband and I went out to eat on a Saturday night and after driving to 4 different locations we thought we’d try New Shad as it’s very close to us. The food was served piping hot and in a decent timeframe, as well as being delicious. We were seated promptly and the customer service received was top notch. We will definitely be eating there again and cannot thank the waiters/waitresses enough for the service we received.

Our planned evening had been cancelled due to windy weather so husband called New Shad for availability & they said if we could come straight away a table would be available. Got there 20 mins later & was shown to our table. Nicely decorated & made to feel very welcome. Starters of poppadom's & pickles went down a treat. My husband ordered lamb Madras which he said was full of flavour & I had chicken Shashlick which was very nice and all washed down with a couple of cold Cobra beers, perfect. Really attentive waiters & was also offered a complimentary drink at the end of our meal, which we declined, but thought it was a nice touch. Good meal, good price & lovely staff,

We have ordered our delivery food from the New Shad for over 15yrs as the quality is always excellent - why have we never sat down to eat in the restaurant before!!!! Our first time as a 'sit down' customer tonight and it definitely won't be our last. The food was, as ever, excellent - even better as it was straight from kitchen to table - but what really made an impression from the minute we walked through the door was the warm and friendly welcome which extended in to the excellent service. It all felt very personal and genuine. Thank you to each and every member of the New Shad team - we will be back ...... next time with friends. Pip & JP

This restaurant was fully booked but the manager fitted us in for a 6.30 sitting although he needed the table back for 8.15 which totally suited us. Absolutely fabulous food as usual, this restaurant has so got it right, the quality of food is first class, the service also first class. Looking forward to our next visit which will definitely be in the near future.

Driven by this place a few times and finally had chance to eat there. Looks good inside and waited a bit to order but food came pretty quick after. I had the chicken naga, which was very tasty - good fruity naga flavour and about the right level of spice. Tried some of other dishes we had and all were good, especially a very interesting anise/fennel-flavoured balti. Sides were also tasty - decent onion bhaji and good saag paneer. Would definitely come back. Fairly reasonable price too.

This is one of the best Indian food I have had in my whole life. The food here is amazing, the staff is friendly and it is a great family meal. At the end of your meal the staff will have a shot with you and will not rush you into leaving or ordering.

We started with poppadoms and the pickle tray. So nice to find the traditional selection of mango chutney, mango pickle, onion salad and raita; too many places provide a selection of nondescript liquids as accompaniments these days. The lamb sag was a real treat, you could taste the subtle blend of spices in the spinach and the generous chunks of lamb were tender and flavoursome. The chicken pieces in the Chicken Balti were equally impressive. In both cases, it tasted as if the meat had been cooked as a curry dish. We get fed up with curries concocted from pieces of lamb or chicken that have been grilled on a skewer and then added to a sauce. Ten out of ten for the Bindi Bhaji too. Fresh okra, not overcooked, with a bit of a bite to it.

The staff were brilliant, friendly, funny and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. I will be going back

We came here twice on the advice of a friend. It’s honestly one of the best curries we have had the service is brilliant the staff are so friendly and accommodating and if you have Ali serve you you will get to try his famous captain ooh ah! It’s a lovely refreshing shot of yummy-ness I can’t wait to go back this month

Checked out Indian take aways on Trip Adviser and this one gave recent positive reviews. The were not wrong! We had a variety of dishes selected from their menu which were delivered on time and well packed and labelled. Quality superb and good value too.. Will definitely be using them again.

We’ve been using the New Shad as our go to Indian takeaway and they have never disappointed. We have yet to be able to get down to the restaurant, but their food speaks for itself!

We eat here every now and then and it's got even better recently. We turned up on a Sunday evening and the food was excellent - really tasty - and the service was really great too. They do a chicken naga dish - they call it chicken nagina - which is refreshingly different to most naga dishes, and their tarka daal is lovely, thick and smoky. The dishes all taste really fresh, would definitely recommend.

Have used this restaurant for years. It NEVER fails to deliver, whether it be a take away or a sit down. Food is superb and the service is great. Always attentive and with a smile. Give it a go. You won’t regret it 😊

we Visited on our 21st wedding anniversary from the minute we walked in we had a warm and friendly welcome nothing was to much trouble the warm and friendly family restaurant not only has amazing food it has a relaxed and warm feeling we have used this restaurant a few times and the quality of food has not changed the standard is still as high now as when it first opened it is still my go to place for Indian food would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys India food

We visit the Shad most weeks, if not every! Cannot recommend it enough, all the staff are so friendly, we come back to see them just as much as for the food. If you’re up for a home-made Indian with fresh ingredients, the Shad is the place to be!

Myself and my partner dined in with our friends and found this little gem of a restaurant to be surprisingly fun! The service and food was really good! The young waiter (myze I think) had a great sense of humour! And his family were also very accommodating... will return sooner then later!

I live in Strood and have been despairing at the choices of restaurants that are available in the area...Then one day I tried the Shad on their banquet night and my friend accompanied me on the visit. We had a really lovely meal (however I wouldn't order the same dish next time as it was very spicy), the rest of the dishes were delicious and I cannot wait for my next visit :)! I plan on being a regular ;). Also the waiters (especially one of the guys - I can't remember his name) were friendly and helpful :). It's very nice to have such a great restaurant in the area and I hope they keep up the lovely service and great standard of food :)!

Went here tonight with my other half and son (who is in a buggy) they put us at a table where we could eat our food and still entertain and look after our baby while he sat In the buggy.

Very disappointing visit a few weeks ago. 20 mins to take our order, a further 1 hr 30 to get our food, when they could see we were getting restless there attitudes were not right and quite rude to us. And the food was standard when it did come. One of our dishes had a total of 4 bits of chicken! Not good

This has been a reliable curry house for a while now so you can imagine my disappointment when on a visit this week, the food I ordered was a complete train wreck.

We haven’t been for a while but only due to ill health in the family. Went for a takeaway Friday and it was as good as ever! So good that we went back to eat in on Saturday. Love the fact that the staff are so friendly and always very welcoming, no matter whether it’s been a while since our last visit. The other thing I love in particular is that their chicken is never dry. So many other Indians it’s tough and dry. Consistently good at the new Shad. Between us we had a king prawn jalfrezi, chicken tikka jalfrezi (extra sauce) chicken biryani, Bombay aloo. Paratha and poppadoms and rice. We will be back soon. Thanks guys

Just been out for a lovely meal.. service was lovely and the food is great... not been for a while so did not know what to expect. However they treated us lovely no pressure meals came on time and it’s no stress with kids as they are very welcoming... I would go again

Our 3 man curry club used to come here years ago and it was always reliable. For one readon or another though, it declined around 2 yesrs ago. However, a month back we decided to give it another try and have to say that it is back to its best. The tandoori chicken, the veg dishes, breads and rices are now superb again.

A friend of ours said to try this place for a rare kid free night out I can honestly say this was a wonderful experience we were treated like royalty here, and will 100% be back! The ya meds were a little close together but we struck up conversation with like minded families which was oddly comforting, I cannot recommend this place enough we will become regulars for sure! X
