The Sultan Resturant in Medway

On arrival everything was great, once ordered we waited around 45 minutes for our food to come out (there was only 2 of us) which is insane. We then had to send one meal back as we made a mistake and ordered the chicken tikka main not as a curry. After that the waiter was just straight up rude and made us feel very uncomfortable about it. He approached our table twice in a abrupt manor telling us to go and tell the boss that it was our mistake if not he's going to get sacked in his words, shaking his head at us and just really looked furious with us, mistakes happen and it was also an easy fix! We really didn't want to be there after that as we could tell he was treating us different to the rest. Food was nice but wouldn't visit again as the waiter put us off, wait time for food to come out.. oh AND £6 for a lemonade?! Crazy

We had such a lovely evening and will definitely return now we know that there is free parking at the back.

First time visiting and definitely not the last ! Go early as I see it can get really busy. Food is really good best we had locally, highly recommended.We had many dishes and all were good. Vindaloo was really hot but good.The staff were good.This was Moms choice of restaurant to go for her Birthday. We wasn’t aware but they do have parking at the back of the restaurant as parking out front is difficult due to parking restrictions in front.

Was nearing closing time but staff were happy to accommodate us. Father in-law said his pathia was spot on but my bhuna was below par.

Sadly, this vista left us with a bitter taste in our mouth. The last time we went here we were advised to park in the car park at the back because we could not park on the road. We did the same this time and went up the stairs to the restaurant. We were greeted as we walked in and were shown to our table. Unfortunately we were not told that the parking arrangements had changed. The car park has been transferred over to a company who now send out parking charge notices to people if they do not enter their car registration in a machine at the counter. We received a £60 fine. When I rang and spoke to the manager of the restaurant he said there were signs up in the car park but, as I said to him, as we had been told to park there in the past, we assumed it was still okay to park there. At NO time did any staff member tell us about the change or advise us to put the registration number into the machine. If there had been a sign at the top of the stairs as you go into the restaurant at least we would have stood a chance of seeing it. If we had been about the new system we would have entered our details in the machine and avoided a fine. The manager told me that staff do tell people but on this occasion they didn't and there were 4 witnesses to that! A 'sorry' from him is just NOT good enough.

Fantastic food in a lovely setting with great service. I normally eat in the restaurant, but last night I had a takeaway delivered which was equally as nice as the restaurant and delivered on time. Many thanks, we will revisit soon

Main meals were lovely but unfortunately onion bargees were very over cooked and not very nice to eat which was disappointing.

The food was fantastic we ordered a sharing starter and a lamb dhansak to share with 2 naans. This was our first time visiting and we will definitely be back. The staff were lovely and very attentive, the service was fantastic. Thank you all and we will be back!

We booked a meal for four, with a couple of friends we had not seen for many years. We were quickly seated at a quiet table, in the reasonably busy restaurant. A drinks’ order was quickly taken and delivered but we asked for a little time to peruse the menu (we really wanted to chat, first). Then poppadums were served and we ordered several mains and sides (too many, as it turned out), but all were well-presented and tasty. Throughout, service was prompt, accurate and friendly. AND we’d had a good meal and caught up on twenty or so, missing, years.

Amazing food, brilliant service. Clean. A place for date night or to take the Family. We love this place and will return again soon

The food was pony , chicken was hard the butter chicken was more like concrete not butter lol , maybe have a look at Gurkha fire for some advice , £60 rubs up the walll , thought more of it being resturant wasn’t impressed at all. First time visiting and definitely not the last ! Food is absolutely amazing, highly recommend the starter where you get a little bit of each. The staff were some of the kindest people I’ve ever come across in a restaurant, nothing was too much trouble and they happily helped us decorate our table for our girlfriend’s birthday. This was also her choice of restaurant to go for evening as she had been before and loved it. We were offered complimentary drinks for her birthday which was so lovely. We wasn’t aware but they do have parking at the back of the restaurant as parking out front is difficult due to parking restrictions. 5* from us and we will see you very soon :)

We come here as a family often. The service is amazing and the food is delicious. We were given a new black bean dish to try today and it ended up being my favourite, even above the ones we selected ourselves (we like to share). It’s a nice big space so we never feel squashed in. Everyone is chatty. Thanks everybody 🙏🏻

We enjoyed a lovely meal here for our 10 year anniversary tonight. Very attentive staff, helpful when my partner, who's quite adventurous, asked for a recommendation for his meal. The man who served us asked what sort of thing he liked and what spice level suited him and my partner really enjoyed the recommend dish that wasn't even available on the menu yet! My food was delicious. I had Keema and it was lovely. Our 4 year old seemed to enjoy what he ate of his Butter Chicken but didn't eat much, which was on us because we didn't take into account he'd had a cooked lunch at school! And we booked dinner for 5.30pm 🙄😂 But the manager came over to check if everything was OK with it because he saw he hadn't eaten much, which was thoughtful. After we finished our main course we said we didn't want dessert because we were so full and there was some food leftover so we asked for some takeout boxes which came out along with a cute penguin toy for our son which had ice cream inside. We hadn't asked for this so that was a lovely gesture. Our son loved it. We were also offered complimentary drinks at the end which was very kind but we just couldn't fit them in! 😂 We definitely recommend The Sultan. Lovely food, attentive staff who are happy to help with recommendations for food, kind to children. We don't think you'll be disappointed here.

I recently dined at The Sultan Restaurant, and I am deeply disappointed by the experience. While I had heard good things about this place, my visit was far from pleasant. To my horror, I found a cockroach in my food. This is absolutely unacceptable and speaks volumes about the hygiene standards of the restaurant. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, their response was dismissive and unprofessional. They did not offer any apology or resolution, leaving me feeling unheard and disrespected. This experience has completely shattered my trust in The Sultan Restaurant, and I will not be returning. I strongly urge potential customers to think twice before dining here, as cleanliness and customer care seem to be severely lacking.

We came in tonight and was served by an amazing waiter, Bobby. He was super attentive, friendly and made sure we was ok the whole time! I’ve never had such good service before and will be coming back just to see Bobby again. The whole family was absolutely took back by how good his service was. The food was also absolutely delicious. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

The order was insufficient.Few items were missing .I know as I order it frequently.When I phoned Sultan Restaurant the staff over the phone was arguing and as per his chef all the items were given .He was rude and was very impolite and when I asked for refund he declined.And rest of the order (lamb chops) were overcooked.

Myself and friends were visiting Chatham (from London Eastbourne, Reading and Aberdeen) to see around the Royal Naval Dockyard. We like Indian food. All of us said that it was one of the best Indian meals we have ever had and we are all in our 50s and 60s. Our compliments to the chefs. Service could have been slightly quicker but the food was excellent. Ambience is very nice too.

I would like to start this review by saying I have used this restaurant for many years since it opened and always had amazing food. I ordered for my family last night (later than we would have wanted because my eldest was at work) at 8.15pm. The person who look my order said 45 minutes to 1 hour for delivery. After a considerable amount of time over the estimated time I rung the restaurant to see if my food had left the restaurant yet. The person I spoke to assured me it had left and was on its way. 15 minutes went past and still no food. Annoying as I only live a maximum of 5 minutes from the restaurant. I left it another 10 minutes before calling back. After lots of messing about, speaking to the manager, calling the driver etc. they told me my food would be 5 minutes. I explained that this is now coming up to 2 hours from the point of my order and I was told my food left the restaurant 30 minutes ago for a 5 minute journey. I was then told that my £81.80 order would only cost £70 for the inconvenience. I explained to the manager I did not want to eat a cold curry that had been driven around Medway for 30 minutes regardless of the price! The manager assured me it would be hot and his response was; “Harry, if it’s cold you don’t pay!”. I explained that I would be checking the food before handing over any money! The manager agreed this is fine. My food finally arrived at 10.20pm freezing cold and so greasy where it had been sat in the bag for so long it was dripping! The popadoms were ALL crumbs. The onion bhaji’s were so cold and greasy that the paper bags they were in had disintegrated due to the moisture. I told the driver I am not paying for this food. He demanded that I pay 50% because he “can’t just give away £100 worth of food”. It was still originally £81.80. I simply told the driver I do not want this food and that I would not be paying for it! The driver said he would take it back and “heat it up” give us 20 minutes! I obviously refused!! Whist still on the phone to the restaurant, the person I was speaking to was so rude to me!! Making it my issue that the food was cold and over 2 from the point of ordering and started shouting down the phone at me saying “don’t get rude bruv! I ain’t the chef am I, I ain’t the driver am I, don’t get rude to me bruv I just work here!!” I was getting very frustrated as you could imagine but rude I was not! The driver got in his car and left without saying a word. I then got in my car to go and get my family some alternative food at the ridiculous hour of 10.40pm when the driver returned to my house and my son rung me to tell me they are leaving the food at no cost! When I returned home we tried to save what we could but it was awful!! The curry had thick layer of oil where the sauce had separated, the five was rock hard, naan bread was chewy and the onion bhaji just inedible! The best part of the meal was the popadom crumbs in the bottom of the bag! The service from this restaurant is diabolical. I am glad I didn’t part with any money for the awful food as it ALL went in the bin!! I WILL NEVER USE AGAIN!!

I always come to the Sultan it’s hands down the best curry house in the Medway towns. The food is out of this world the portions are massive so if I was you don’t eat all day and save it for your meal here it will be worth it. I came here Monday for my usual madras but Abbu suggested I should try a new dish it’s a new take on a tikka masala and I must say I’m sold we tired a taster on Monday and here we are Wednesday having it as a main. Came here Saturday the restaurant was very busy waited a long time to get orders in, meals arrived all very tasteless overcooked and chicken was like rubber very dry, brought our breads out and the mains followed 8 minutes later so the breads were cold. One tiny salad to share between 3 main Tikkas. Wasn’t asked how the food was or offered any more drinks. I asked to speak to management 3 times. Asked on leaving if it was all ok. I explained what has happened and he wasn’t interested didn’t say anything accept grumble. People behind me was also complaining about the chicken and apparently chicken in meant to be dry. Not really sure where they got this information from. All in all a very disappointing night here

My fiance and I 1st tried a takeaway and we were so impressed by the quality of the food we decided to try a sit down meal the food was perfect the staff were friendly and conscientious without hovering the starters were delicious as were the mains and the food was all brought out with perfect timing we will definitely be going again as it was all perfect the ambience was lovely and relaxed I would rate this restaurant 10 out of 10 Although ther is no direct parking outside the restaurant there is a car park roughly a 5 min walk away up the hill behind gibralter House

Having visited a fair few curry houses, this isn't one I'd be rushing back to unfortunately. The food was ok. We did have to wait quite a bit of time for our starters and when they did arrive they were luke warm at best. However, the lamb tikka was the best of a bad bunch. The mains again were fine. I'm not sure what it was missing, but something didn't quite taste right. One positive was at least mains were served at a more appropriate temperature and not cold like the starters. The restaurant is nice enough, but does feel like it could do with some TLC. The grey walls paired with the strange cold, clinical lighting set up did not do the space any favours. The lack of any diffused light meant the space was lit very strangely, this set a very uninviting vibe. I would suggest perhaps looking to move away from the downlights and introduce some warmer ambient lighting to make it feel a bit more cosy and less grey and bleak.
