The best restaurants serving British food in Newport South Wales

being a semi regular customer to the farmers arms for many years I have always enjoyed my time spent there. However since being taken over by new management the friendly family atmosphere has changed and it no longer feels welcoming. The food is still good but the service is lacking and the bar staff no longer appear happy and engaging

Stayed a few times with work, it has decent rooms, extremely attentive and friendly staff, and great food

Beautiful setting and restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. Special mention to Julie who was superb all evening and very attentive.

Lots of 2010 memorabilia and a nice touch is all the balls have the course logo on, but you will lose some balls on the course. Some great holes to be played but their is a lot of sand so beware, one of our team wished he ha brought a bucket & spade with him as his balls seemed to be attracted too the sand !!

My family has usually had good experiences when visiting this cafe, until today… Employees appear to be miserable, they were rude & I get the impression that they don’t want to be there. Also, I have never had a milkshake that is served warm until now.

Went for the Wednesday burger evening. As always amazing food and great service. Really good value for money. Will definitely be coming back, thank you

Highly recommend it! Owner is very friendly and welcoming food was great we had chicken sausage, minced beef pie and chips great place for a nice chippy in Newport!

Came here not so long ago food was minging all frozen nothing was fresh the owner was not professional at all and the lady behind the bar was extremely rude and patronising she was short and brunette hair, cutlery was rusty and all smudged regulars behind the bar pouring their own drinks made the atmosphere awful parking was limited over all would not go there

Stayed there last night as we had attended a wake there earlier in the day. Staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful. Had a nice light evening meal in the bar area restaurant, Rooms were nice and very clean and comfortable. Only downside was the springy floorboards, you can hear people walking back and forth in the room above, luckily I had earplugs which . Breakfast was also good value.

My partner and I treated ourselves to an Easter lunch and we were not disappointed! The food was incredible and worth every penny. This was by far the best Sunday roast we have had out. The staff were friendly, attentive and the Friendly Fox itself is lovely. We look forward to returning! Thank you

Absolutely stunning food had the merlot beef brisket and my husband had beer battered cod food was fast and delicious service was fantastic staff are super friendly all in all a 5 star in every aspect.

I heard that new management had taken over this establishment and thought we would try it for lunch on Saturday 08/04/25, a good atmosphere within the bar area and fairly busy but with still plenty of room to find a table to eat. The bar service was good and the server was friendly, ordering food at the bar was easy, the waitress was also nice and friendly, unfortunately the food in our opinion was below average we couldn't see any healthy options, very plain food and the portions were on the small side, the gravy I had with my steak and ale pie was very lumpy and not pleasant at all, my wife had fish which she said was all batter, just based on the food experience we won't be going back for food again.

Great service from the time we entered to the time we left. Drinks were on the table when we came back from getting food. There was a queue when we went for food by this was moving quickly and was not a long wait. Food was very good and the whole family enjoyed their choices. Would highly recommend to others.
