Great food and drink. Traditional Bar food. Staff were really nice and friendly. Place was clean and tidy. Warm friendly atmosphere.

We go to this pub every friday. Its lovely Chloe and Emma are fantastic. Food is always excellent quick service Never ever fails to please us both. Happy friday with lovely food and company!

Joanne greeted me with a professional smile and welcome. The interior of the hotel is much better than the outside appearance would have you believe. Arriving in a winter cold period I was ready for a cold room but again I was wrong. I turned on the radiator and within a minute it was roaring hot. I had to turn the rad down within 30 minutes. The rooms condition and decor was very modern and pleasant. I would've stayed a second night but I had to visit another location so decided not to return. I will however book The New Inn when I come back to South Wales for sure. The food next door in the pub is typical pub food which is what it says on the tin. Thank you Joanne for a very helpful professional manner.

Spent two nights here recently, have also stayed in the past whilst visiting family in Newport. The rooms are basic, but have everything you need, It is the staff that make this place a great place to stay. We had a small issue with the bathroom sink, which was fixed whilst we had breakfast. All the staff, both in the accommodation area and the bar/restaurant were really friendly. It is my go-to when visiting family from now on.

Andrea and Ben were amazing during our stay here , nothing was too much trouble , food was spot on even got to meet the chef Katrina and thank her 😁 can't wait to return

Large pub right next to motel offers good value food and very good service. Didnt stay at the motel I just used the pub while using the EV charger also on site. Seems like a good location if you are passing through the area.

It’s a good place to spend a night, rooms are alright beds are comfy and there’s a bathtub. Bar is fairly priced and it’s pretty big, there’s an outside seating area for sunny days too. Nothing wrong with it although I haven’t tried the food. In the middle of nowhere as far as I can tell, definitely that, but it’s not always a bad thing.

Rooms were clean. Not far from the motorway.

We spent last Tuesday and we enjoyed a lot! It was half term, we should book the soft play and be sure to have a table. But after finding a table with the staff's help (thank you for all your kindness girls) we enjoyed the food and we spend a lovely time there.

Waited a while to be seated as they didn't have enough staff. The table we were taken to was in the bar area and dirty. We asked to be moved to a clean table in the restaurant area. After waiting 45mins for our meals I went to the bar to ask how much longer as we were going out and didn't have time for this. There was hardly anyone there so they weren't busy. When our meals came out the server brought them out 1 at a time! One meal came with a baked potato even though chips had been ordered, another came out cold and was sent back (the kitchen warmed it up in the microwave & tried to hide this by putting a fresh egg on it), another was a burger which had hardly any gravy on it. There was a small dish with what looked like gravy but it was some brown peppery disgusting stuff. I asked for a side of chips which turned up in a plastic desk tidy. My friends chips were in a dish which had a lot more in than my desk tidy. There were people on 2 other tables. A woman in the larger group was standing up asking to see the manager. They werent happy either. The other table had a couple who continually swore loudly therefore I would not consider this a family friendly place. When we complained to the server cleaning our table he couldn't care less. We will not be back.

Arrived at the restaurant on time for our booking. We were taken to our table in the bar area which hadn’t been cleaned from the previous customers. We asked to be moved to a more Suitable and clean table. The lady who took us there absolutely stank of alcohol ( I understand this is a pub and drinks get spilled etc but this smell came off her breath ( I later saw her popping mints into her mouth) We placed our orders, I had to tell the young lad who served me, 3 times that I wanted chips instead of a jacket potato… 45 mins later another young lad came to check that I wanted chips with my meal…. Finally after 50 minutes our meals arrived… with no chips but a jacket potato! Our gammon meal came out stone cold, sent that back for a fresh hot one… same meal returned heated in the microwave! You could see the sauce on the plate that we had put on previously. The gravy burger meal arrived warm and without gravy or cheese and a handful of chips ( if that) My meal came with just cheese on top and no sauce ( Italian chicken.. can’t remember the name of the meal) When we complained we were met with shrugged shoulders! If the restaurant was busy I would of expected a long wait but there were only 4 of us and another party eating as the restaurant was empty and were only cooking for people who had booked!! The restaurant needs an complete overhaul on everything from staff training to a full refurbish. Ripped seating, dirty sticky tables and rotten menus! We were so disappointed with our experience we will definitely not recommend or return!

We had to wait a long time for our Sunday lunch to be served. The roast beef and vegetables were well cooked and tasty. All of the food was hot. Desserts and coffee were good. Greene King need to refurbish this Hungry Horse as the tables, chairs, toilets etc are not up to the expected standard.

Went to the hungry horse for food and a lot of it was unavailable so a lot of the good was missing. The tables still had previous customers plates and glasses still on. Was sent to get my own cutlery and being visually impaired I didn't find that a great experience. The Welsh sounding lady behind the bar wasn't very helpful either. There was dogs all over the restaurant including near the door to the children's play area. Will not be returning.

Me and my family visit every Friday. We absolutely love our visit every single time. The food is always brilliant and the staff are outstanding. Couldn’t ask for better. I asked one Friday for the sea bass which they didn’t have but after speaking to the chef she had it in the following week without fail. The staff never ignore my children and are extremely friendly. Here staying as conference starts at 8am in morning nearby. Fabulous mix it up meal. Great price. Asked the staff about breakfast times 8-10am as have to leave 7.45. Andrea said to give her shout 7am as she would be about and prepare early breakfast for us. Gone above and beyond for us.

I will start by saying this place is never going to be an amazing dining experience. But what it has done often in the past is given an option of cheap decent value and decent sized food when I needed a cheap option I could use with no hassle. Sadly though now the place seems to be losing its way. I had a burger and my wife had a burger. My wife’s burger was very nice, tasty and good value. Mine was awful, the burgers were dry and tasteless and the bread was a sad excuse for a roll. It’s amazing how two meals could be so different. The food was about an hour wait, which was amazing considering there was not many people there. We had to have a burger as they had no other food in near enough. It seems the Bank Hoilday weekend had cleared them out. The staff were good, but they were under staffed and there was not enough of them to cope with the jobs they had. More than one chair is torn and in bad need of urgent repair. I go to another Green King pub in the North of England when I am up that way, and that is very good food and drink value. It shows this one up in a very bad light. Good staff let down by upper management it would seem to sort the problems out.

I’ll start by saying the food was okay; not great, not terrible, just okay. Unfortunately that’s as good as our visit was. Finding a suitable table was not an easy task given all of the booths/tables with bench seats were suffering with over use to the point that the faux leather fabric was worn through to the foam. This clearly wasn’t a recent issue as the foam in most of the worn seats had been picked at to the point of leaving holes in the seat! After finding a booth that had the least amount of wear and tear, we chose our food and headed to the bar to order. At the bar we ordered food and three drinks, one of which was a bottle of ginger beer that the bar person did not feel warranted an offer of a glass or a straw. We returned to our seats after being told the food would be at least 25 minutes; this seemed odd given the restaurant appeared to be practically empty. Whilst sat at our table we overheard the table behind ask a server for fresh cutlery, explaining that the cutlery they had found was dirty. Given there was no cutlery on our table, I walked over to where I could see cutlery storage, but on arrival I was met by what I would describe as filthy cutlery (lumps of food welded to the cutlery). The food we had ordered did seem to take more than 25 minutes to arrive, although I will admit that I hadn’t kept track of the time. When the food did arrive, it came one meal at a time, with the first meal being delivered around five minutes before the second and third. The meals weren’t accompanied by cutlery, neither were we told where it was or where the sauces were. We obviously asked for cutlery and the server started to head to where we had previously found cutlery, but we pointed out the fact that it was dirty. The server then headed off in the direction of the kitchen before eventually returning with ‘fresh’ cutlery. I say fresh, but what I mean is dirty cutlery! We then decided to head back to the cutlery storage we had spotted in order to find the “diamond amongst the rough”!! I should add that even after being told the cutlery was dirty, no one saw fit to remove the offending items and replace them with washed and cleaned items! During the course of eating our meals I needed to visit the bathroom, which I wish I hadn’t given I found them to to be as dirty as the cutlery!! Going back to the food, as I said it was okay; warm (not hot*) and plentiful. The chips were a mixed bag of well cooked and over cooked, but edible. *one of the meals was a sizzler so warm was not ideal. The menu itself was varied and one that would certain offer something for most people. This restaurant is our closest Hungry Horse, but unfortunately we won’t return and instead we will travel an extra 10 miles to visit the Oyster Catcher in Penarth, where we’ve never experienced any issues. In my mind, the issues we experienced today are as a result of staff laziness and poor management. This even applies to the worn seating, as surely the management should be flagging this with their head office. Maybe a senior member of the Greene King Executive team should drop by for a visit to see first hand the problems facing this restaurant.

We decided to have a cheap and cheerful family meal having driven from Taunton to Newport . The bonus being a beer garden as it was very warm . We arrived . No visible staff . Initially looking for a table umbrella and menu's . Even the bar was unattended . NOT GREAT. ! My son found an umbrella .. menus followed with another family member . We wrote down our orders and went off to find staff. Soft drinks were ordered at this point . We waited 30 mins for delivery of the order. The server was lack luster. Remedied mistakes with the order in a very disinterested manner. We ordered "Sizzling platters " which had gone past the sizzling stage by time it reached us . The Chicken Skewers were dried out .. chip barely warm and extremely dry . So very disappointing . My son had ordered the mini grill . The gammon was grey around the edges . The worst he has ever been served . He ate what he so as not to disappoint me as it was supposed to be a Family treat . NOT GOOD .! Due to wasps we decided to move inside the building to finish the meal. It seems the staff knew there was a nest of wasps .. but had offered no warning to us . They did say they were waiting for a firm to deal with it ?? A family member had an ANAPHALACTIC response when stung previously .! COME ON STAFF ! CUSTOMER SAFTY. Amongst the debris and leftover food we ordered and were served Dessert . Not one plate or glass was lifted . Either to make room for dessert or to declutter the table . REALLY ?? Some £80.00 later we left . Even the table we had used outside had not been cleared . All in all Never again .

I was staying in the hotel next door for 2 nights. On arrival at 7pm I was told that the kitchen was only taking orders from booked tables as they were backed up. The staff were polite but I had to go to the premier Inn for dinner that night. Dinner 2, food was good and although there seemed to be a new member of staff on they worked as a team with minimal delays Breakfast 1, staff were attentive cooked food was good, the continental selection seemed to be missing pasties as advertised Breakfast 2, Again no pastries or muffins available, asked for a wrap and after 20 mins staff came back and said they had no wraps available, I reordered and the food was good. Would I go again... Yes every kitchen has an off day and although I'm not sure why it closed on day one I'm sure noone wants to send trade to competitors. The stocking issues may have also been a glitch. The food was enjoyable and satisfying, the staff were polite and attentive and the overall experience wasn't bad.

Food was okay but service was bad. Ordered a steak and a sauce to go with it. They forgot the sauce, even though we reminded them twice. The steak went cold and I didn't finish it. Food was brought out but no cutlery was provided, again had to ask. Basic stuff was missed and the whole experience was awful.

Really disappointing, went for a meal for my mother in law birthday with all the family.
