Had a lovely evening and well looked after by Holly and Alina. Food was ok. Bit of a mix for our table. Would recommend the chicken and waffle desert. Steak and lamb were ok. Fish good apparently. Not quite 5 star. Enjoyed our though.

Amazing food, only three other tables occupied and Meghan looked really pissed off, but I don't blame her as there was no atmosphere what so ever due to lack of information to get to Rafters. Brilliant shuttle service to here from main lobby and back. More publicity about this place because the food was divine!1

Very very underwhelming lunch. To be honest I’ve had considerably better fish and chips at my local pub. I wish I could have given 0 stars. How can an establishment at Celtic Manor which on the whole I find great serve this and want to charge good money for it! Come on chef have some pride in the food you send out to customers

I had an exceptional experience whilst dining at the Rafters. Myself and my partner were both blown away by the sheer quality and flavour of the food served to us. To nibble we had a rosemary bread with garlic butter, it has to be some of the best bread I have ever tasted. My partner ordered the roasted lamb and I had the roasted salmon for a main. Both of which were presented beautifully, the texture of the lamb was just indescribably soft and easy to chew. The salmon skin was crispy whilst the salmon itself was soft. Both were full of flavour - as well as the additional food on the plates. For dessert we both had the apple and blackberry crumble, served with vanilla ice cream. Best crumble I’ve ever had. There’s no other way I can sum it up. The staff were also polite throughout our dining experience. I have nothing negative to say.

What an absolute fabulous evening! The service was a little slow due to the staff having some issues, but all the staff were spot on and worked very hard. Abysmal. The way we were treated today was really not up to par and as a restaurant you should be embarrassed. Ignorant, inconsiderate and poorly managed.

Booked a midweek dinner with friends. The restaurant was really busy but well staffed. We had great service from Holly and Christopher on the bar. We all ate from the à la carte menu, however the £25.00 ‘25 year’ celebration set menu looked really great value. A lovely evening in a lovely setting, the ambiance was great.

We ate here this evening and unfortunately we were very dissatisfied. We ate from the 3 courses for £25 menu and our children from the children's menu . The starters were quite nice but then having to wait over an hour before our main courses arrived was unacceptable. We then went on to the deserts, which were again just average and they brought out the wrong dessert for our son . We told them not to worry about bringing another as our youngest was falling asleep by this point! We would not return here unfortunately. A shame because the venue is lovely.

Went here for my boyfriend’s birthday. We were both extremely disappointed. We were put on a table by a fire exit even though there was lots of better tables around. We decided to have a set menu, but wanted to try another starters off the main menu but were told we weren’t allowed to purchase anything off the other menu. I’ve never in my life been told I can’t spend more money in a restaurant, it just didn’t make sence. I had pork belly starter, the poached egg was as hard as you can get. The pork was so tough I struggled to cut it. The black pudding was like charcoal and it had 0 flavour! Looked good though 🤷🏼♀️! My main was okay (chicken). My boyfriend’s fish was really poor, it tasted like the cheapest frozen fish you get from Aldi that had been fried to death, (a cheap quick dish you would make at home when you cba to cook). Lacked any flavour. Puddings, well I guess we’ll never know! It took them 2 hours to serve us 2 dishes at this point. We already knew what we wanted to order for desert when they gave us the menu we said this to the waiter but she rushed off before we finish our sentence. We were completely forgotten about so we then spent the next 30 minutes trying to wave down completely oblivious waiters. By the time they came over we were done and told them to leave it. You better make your drink last too because you have no chance of getting a second! All in all the management should be training their staff to a much higher level.

Sorry to say that my first experience of this restaurant left a lot to be desired. We went at a very quiet Thursday lunch, only 4 other diners, and had to wait well over half an hour for our food. When it arrived, my burger was the same size and contents as the children’s burger. When questioned whether I had received a child’s burger I was told no, and that the only difference was the menu it was ordered from. I said I would not be paying £16.50 for a burger which was exactly the same as that sold to children for £8.50. The kind waitress checked and came to let me know they would be charging the children’s price. But this should not be our experience. It felt like we were being charged through the nose for everything there on. Leaving a not so nice taste in the mouth. Sorry to say I doubt I’ll return, overpriced and underwhelming.

It was a hit and miss experience last Thursday unfortunately in terms of food and service but we will try it again for our next stay. We tried the 25 year celebration menu since it'd be for a limited time. The watercress velouté was a green, slightly gritty and extremely bland starter. I wasn't expecting vibrant and rich flavours since it's mainly watercress and snowpeas, but a fairly generous pinch of salt wouldn't have hurt. The pork belly starter however was nice. The hook farm cauliflower risotto was fantastic as was the pan fried chicken breast. The summer berry cheesecake wasn't too bad but the granola crumb base was chewy. I was expecting some crunch to it. The manager that evening was excellent, but the waitress for our table wasn't great despite the restaurant not being too busy (maybe 6-9 tables full out of possibly 20 or more at the time we were there). Didn't ask us for any drinks at the end of the meal, took some time getting the bill, didn't return for payment and didn't confirm if the shuttle back to the hotel had been requested. After approx. 10-15 minutes I asked the manager about paying the bill and confirm the shuttle booking which he did promptly. Diners across from us had a similar experience. The restaurant is in a beautiful spot. We definitely had a nice, relaxed evening watching the sun set over the hills and valleys. Perfect after a long day.

Firstly your dress code was not adhered to, people did have trainers, flip flops and running gear. We sat down first at a table by the window, lovely views. Not long after we sat, 2 people were given table right on top of us, even though the whole restaurant was at that time empty. We ordered our starter, mine was melon, but it was covered in a creamy type sauce and Balsamic Vinegar, it wasn't pleasant. My Bombay Sapphire Gin had a slice of cucumber, I do not like cucumber and the taste spoilt my drink and I left it (I think they should ask before putting cucumber, I originally thought it was lime, but the taste of cucumber soon came through. Then our steaks came, mine was supposed to be medium - well done, first bite was chewy, then I could see it was practically raw, I don't normally complain but on this occasion I did and was given a new steak which to be fair was far better. Table next to us also ordered steak and complained, his wife left hers, but I believe they offered them a voucher as he also complained about his he did eat some of it. Maybe retrain your chef to cook steaks, or get a new one! I have eaten at The Celtic Manor now on a few occasions in your various restaurants and to be honest tonight is my last, I have never enjoyed any of the meals that I have had. Junction 28 beats you hands down.

As part of the celtic manor complex, little difficult to find, as signage isn't the greatedy if your driving, shuttle available for those staying at the hotel. This was a lovely big dinning room, with separate private dinning area upstairs, it's starting to show it's age, some areas look dated, and the building has seen better days, notice few areas of rust and cobwebs, even the table had seen better days, rough surface, needing sanding and varnishing again. Food however was excellent, exactly what you'd expect from a five star hotel, the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. It was a great dinning experience. I would go again the things mentioned above are easy fixes, and the whole purpose of great dinning is what you get.

We went for Sunday lunch to celebrate our mum's birthday and had a really poor experience. The service was extremely slow, we got our main course after we'd been seated for an hour and a half. Of six of us, only two had starters and we were ravenous and bored. The food was good when it came. We waited more and had to get up to ask the waitress to take our dessert order. After 30 minutes it hadn't arrived so we asked where it was and were told the order hadn't gone through to the kitchen. We couldn't wait any longer, so we paid and left. We'd been at the table for nearly 3 hours. We're extremely disappointed, this was meant to be a treat for our mum on her birthday and we expected much better from Celtic Manor.

Unfortunately from the minute we stepped off the shuttle bus from the hotel everything went wrong. Overall a very underwhelming and disappointing experience for myself and my wife. We waited over an hour for our main meals so we decided to order bread around 30 mins into that as we were so hungry. There was no communication between our server to say there was going to be a longer than normal wait for food. Other couples around us were offered complimentary drinks as they were waiting for their starters but as we had ordered bread, we obviously didn’t qualify for this. We were then served our mains around 1hr and 10 minutes after being seating with no apology for the wait etc. We were then left for around 35 mins, nobody checking if our meals were ok etc, no offer of another drink or a dessert so I got up and found another server and asked for the bill. We were very much looking forward to this meal, we’d heard lots about the food from family and friends. I would say the food was average but nothing more, the wine glasses weren’t clean and there was no atmosphere at all. We will definitely be coming back to stay at the hotel but we’d be very reluctant to book at rafters again which is very sad to say. I think the 4 or 5 couples seating around us on that particular evening would all be of the same view.

An appalling experience at Rafters. We were celebrating my Fathers 60th and all the steaks came out blue, some even had raw meat visible on their sides from being improperly seared. Management made a big deal of comping our bill and returning our vouchers as they ushered us out the door. The next day we discovered they had cashed the vouchers without telling us. Trying to get Celtic Manor to honour comping the bill and returning or refunding the vouchers has been a nightmare and we’ve been met with abuse from staff and people hanging up on us when we call. For a 5* hotel, the service is shameful. Stay far away from the Celtic Manor Resort!

Went for a 60th birthday party with family at The Rafters. We all ordered steak and most of the steaks had to be sent back as were not cooked properly (raw inside with grey ring on outside - too raw even for rare!). We had bought vouchers ahead of time to use. The manager said the meal was on the house due to the issue and promised they wouldn’t redeem the vouchers. Celtic manor have since gone back on that and won’t answer the phone/emails - have to physically go in person for someone to even talk to you Terrible customer service and very unprofessional that you can’t trust the manager’s word. Had I have known at the time that they would still redeem the vouchers I could have come to some sort of resolution. I won’t be back.

As a result we came back with our children to celebrate my birthday. Only decent times available for evening meal was at Rafters! I can honestly say it was the worst meal I have ever had! The price we paid for the food we received I am actually gutted! I ordered the lamb, and honestly a ping pong ball was bigger than it! It wasn't even that nice! All four of us left feeling very disappointed, put a big downer on my birthday celebration! Sum it up rafters food is awful and well overpriced for what you get! If all the other restaurants are fully booked while you visit the hotel there is a McDonald's less than a mile away, better off going there instead. Avoid rafters at all cost.

Lunched @ Rafters with a 3 course menu we had purchased from "Celtic dining offers" prior to Mothers Day @ a cost of £26pp. EXCELLENT VALUE with very tasty food - would highly reccomend the experience to all. We chose GAME TERRINE - Halen Mon Black Garlic Mushroom Ketchup, Curried spelt, game jus. Looked as good as it tasted. Our Mains were Welsh Beef & Ale Pie shortcrust pastry, creamed potato & buttered Broccoli (heavenly!!) tpThe pastry was very light & tasted extremely good. Coupled with the mash, Broccoli & the rich gravy, it went down a treat. Cookies & Cream cheesecakes for desserts - WOW!! Everything complimented the other. Soft cookie base, salted caramel chocolate mousse, torched marshmallows. Our compliments to the Chef - deserts were AWESOME!!! 10/10 for the whole experience. We loved it.

I have eaten here before and it has always previously been a five star review. Yet, today it was slightly disappointing. Forty five minutes is too long between courses, the meat was tough and my husband was missing some of his dinner, primarily the green vegetables. Discount was given which I appreciate. However, I would have preferred the usual standard of food. Also please resort to your previous Yorkshire Puddings as the ones we had today left a lot to be desired.

Staff were helpful and kind....especially those who had far too much to drink, plastic bags were given to them when they were picked up LOL. Although how did they get so drunk on those prices. Did need more than 2 behind the bar. Highlight of my evening was the mini-bus suttle back to the main hotal with a bunch of strangers singing neil diamond and do they know its Christmas....the driver had a good laugh ! Will i go there again......ummm no. Over priced, i'll support my local pub instead.

if you are looking for somewhere to have a sunday dinner go to your local pub. not only will you have a much better meal but you would also save yourself so much money. I visited rafters on sunday with my family (a party of 9) and we were celebrating a big birthday for my mum. The restaurant does not live up to its high status. the staff are all teenagers with absolutely no training. they seemed to be running around like headless chickens. our service took over 3 hours which mostly consisted of us waiting for our food rather than eating it. the only course i enjoyed was the starters. despite it taking over an hour to be brought out (and it was a cold dish…) the menu was very misleading. i ordered the cured beetroot salmon but received pan fried salmon in a round shape all mushed up with a few pieces of discarded beetroot? the roast dinner should’ve been the star of the show yet it was the opposite. the roast potatoes were disgraceful being some sad half boiled potatoes tossed in some oil. the beef was tough and unseasoned lacking any tenderness. the cauliflower cheese was laughable, undercooked and drowned in flavourless cream. we waited and tried to call over multiple staff to ask for horseradish or cranberry sauce as none had been put out but no one was near our table. oh and not to mention the stalk of our brussels sprouts weren’t even cut off! lastly the dessert was thrown together using the oddest combination of things. the toffee cheesecake clashed with the “cookie crumble” and chocolate ice cream being overly sweet to eat more then two spoonfuls of. around the table some members of the party ordered the christmas pudding which consisted of more berries than actual cake. our visit was an absolute disgrace. as much as i enjoyed the location i am disappointed to say i will not be returning to the celtic manor for any future meals.

Went for the Christmas Sunday dinner and frankly it was not all that. The view was amazing from the restaurant and the restaurant itself was very nice, and those are the highlights. The starters were lovely. Around the table we ordered the chicken liver parfait and cured salmon and both were very tasty. Absolutely loved it. But unfortunately that was the best of it. With the roast beef, I was very disappointed with the meat itself. Low quality and tough, a slow roasted meat should be tender and juicy and melt in your mouth. There was no seasoning at all. The Yorkshire pudding was dried, a couple of them around the table were burnt on the top. The roast potatoes were a joke, they were undercooked and crunchy in the middle, no seasoning, very similar to how it would have been if it was just boiled. The Brussels sprouts weren’t even trimmed and still had the stalks on them!! They gravy tasted like something you whip up at home from a jar of Bistro’s. The only good thing on the plate was the carrot and parsnip. Dessert was underwhelming yet again. Around the table we ended up with one of each thing from the set menu and the best was the panna cotta. The Christmas pudding was close to inedible, the two of us who ordered gave up after a couple of spoonfuls. The toffee cheesecake was peculiar. The flavor combinations on the plate made very little sense; chocolate ice cream doesn’t really go with toffee cheesecake. Service was poor. Inexperienced wait staff who weren’t entirely sure what they were doing. Any questions about the food was met with confusion. No one bothered to check in on us during the meal and if you needed something, you’d have to try and get their attention. One of our party dropped their fork and had to get up and get it themselves because no one was around our table for so long! The food also took a very long time to arrive, all the starters were cold so I don’t see why we waited nearly an hour for them!

We'd booked a night away for our anniversary, and didn't have the option of our first restaurant choice for dinner. I'm glad we didn't. The meal at Rafters was delicious. I had a butternut squash carpaccio starter, with quince puree, pickled mustard seeds, apple salad with candied walnut, and the flavours and textures were exceptional. My husband had game terrine (he was very impressed with the mushroom and black garlic), followed by chicken Wellington, and I had a duet of lamb (a tiny lamb pie and lamb rump) with beetroot and carrot. And then, because I wanted to try the mulled wine trifle but also wanted the Perl Las on the cheeseboard (and the apple and mead chutney) because Perl Las is my favourite and it would be rude not to, we shared both, and they did not disappoint. (The trifle was deconstructed and was also very, very good the flavours were beautiful, intense and worked perfectly together!) We split a bottle of Shiraz between us, which was an excellent quality, but didn't break the bank. The setting was beautiful, the service was delightful, friendly, attentive but also not intrusive, and we had a lovely conversation with one of our two waiters about the new menu afterwards. The menu is short, but excellent, and caters for vegetarian and vegan, with gluten free options available too.

The staff was very inattentive, we had to wait for a very very long time to get our food and drinks, even though the restaurant was empty. Some of the meals we had, were nice and enjoyable but others were not worth the hassle and money. For a restaurant on the grounds of a 5 star hotel, with higher prices than average, we expected higher quality and we were bitterly disappointed. So even though half of it was nice - we expected good quality for the price and reputation.

Overall a good experience. Only let down by the crème brulee but to be fair they did take it off the bill. Really deserves four and a half stars. Friendly helpful staff.

Food was painfully slow and restaurant wasn't overly busy. Drinks were even slower if possible. Staff look miserable and gave the overall impression that if you asked to see the dessert menu or for additional drinks they would sigh. We left after confirming the meal was to be added to the room as we were staying hotel guests and whilst on the shuttle the waitress flagged us down saying we'd not paid the bill. Mortified- we explained that we were guests and had asked for it on the room but maybe if they'd not been stood around looking miserable they might have taken more notice. Shuttle of guests all complained food was slow and generally below par.

Booked to have Sunday dinner thinking it would be nice for special occasion, but a huge disappointment, my daughter and I had the Beef roast dinner after waiting for 45 min it arrived luke warm and parts of the meat were raw, with atery vein sticking out tried to chew it but gave up after 3 pieces, vegetables were ok but Yorkshire was burnt! Only four tables had people eating there so assuming its not popular or gone downhill, even thought maybe we were unlucky but when leaving saw another couple saying how burnt Yorkshire was (it was black!) i would advise people to avoid definitely cant recommend massive fail.

After a 3 day golf trip we saved rafters for our final night as a special treat. What a mistake. The front of house and management were shambolic. One lovely waitress trying her best but our table of ten concluded this to be the worst service we had ever received at a restaurant. We had to collect our own drinks from the bar (after staring at them for 15 minutes), had to open our own bottle of red wine after having to ask for a cork screw, waited over an hour for a starter (which came in dribs and drabs and veloute (which the waitress described as soup) served with no spoons. Our main courses took over two hours to arrive and were very mediocre. This is the second visit and only marginally worse than my first. I wouldn’t return to the resort again. The whole experience leaves a sour taste with the feeling they are trying to wring ever penny they can out of their customers to the detriment of their satisfaction. The only highlight was the fact that 1 hour 55 mins in to our meal (before our mains arrived) we were asked if we would like the desert menu which at least gave us a laugh. Pretty dissatisfied to say the least.

Clubhouse is lovely. Tried charge me £6 for two pints of water with a dash of cordial. table we sat at was filthy and not cleaned at all prior to eating. Has potential but needs work. Otherwise quite nice. Quite dissapointed for a previous Ryder cup venue.

Sadly we waited over 2 hours for mains, sat waiting endlessly for drinks. When we complained we were given the "hard since covid" excuse. Restaurants shouldn't pack in covers if they don't have the staff or experience to do it. Front of house was poorly run, despite the best efforts of the waitress, the management was shambolic. I think the resort in general is struggling. Overpriced and lacking quality, wont be back.

Probably one of the worst Sunday dinners I have had in a long time! Yes it’s pretty and in nice grounds but the food was very poor! The meat was full of hard fat (lamb dinner) rosters were black! And the Yorkshire just shattered as soon as you put your knife to it! Staff didn’t come once to ask how the meal was, it was only when they came to collect the plates (that were still full of food) that we informed them how poor the meals were. We did have two free drinks as a gesture that was nice of them, but personally I would rather have had a decent meal.

The food was tasty, nicely presented and hot. Worth a visit for the stunning views and the polite staff. This place has so much untapped potential. The location is superb but the restaurant is massively let down by the dated decor. Unlike Steak on Six (highly recommended) there is no theme to the room and the space lacks intimacy. There is a bizarre mish-mash of colours, aged carpets and some questionable tableware choices (orange glasses?). The seating is relatively comfortable but again, very dated. We would like to return in future but would strongly recommend the management team consider a refurbishment. The vaulted ceiling is a lovely feature but would benefit from hanging lights of some description to add a touch of elegance. There is a distinct lack of art work and an awkwardly placed, overly large reception desk. As a general note, the restaurant would benefit from a dust of the windows at ceiling height and a freshening of the balcony metalwork paint.

A charming restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. Our first visit to Rafters was a success, the menu was excellent. Beautiful position with magnificent views of the countryside from the dining room. Taya, the member of the staff who served us, is definitely one of the reasons I would return. She is a very bright, enthusiastic and active young lady who provided us with an overall 10/10 experience!

One of the many restaurants located in this lovely resort. Pork belly as starter was without much flavour. Salmon skin was very crispy and tasty. Although they got our bill wrong in the end. Would recommend for the view and atmosphere of the resort.

You will NOT get a better breakfast for the money anywhere else.. The service is fairly quick and the girls are always polite.. The plate is absolutely chock full and the extra large & large breakfasts are unbelievably good

Food was dreadful. The seabass was far too big for one person. The rocksalt that it was baked in, was obviously short of egg whites as it hadn’t sealed the fish and consequently the fish was over done. The fish came with half a roasted lemon. We paid £7 for a very small dish of chips, that were chopped up potatoes barely fried. The dish of leeks were dark brown, well over cooked and unappetizing to say the least. We declined dessert and coffee. As a tourist I spoke to the interim manager, who listened and was disappointed with our experience at the restaurant which has been recommended to us.
