The Tredegar Arms in Newport

Came here not so long ago food was minging all frozen nothing was fresh the owner was not professional at all and the lady behind the bar was extremely rude and patronising she was short and brunette hair, cutlery was rusty and all smudged regulars behind the bar pouring their own drinks made the atmosphere awful parking was limited over all would not go there

We went for Sunday roast yesterday with son and partner. We were very impressed service excellent very friendly and nothing too much trouble .You have to be hungry as portions good and beautiful home cooked variety of meats and vegetarian option as well as every vegetable as sides ....will definitely be going back so reasonable and would recommend

Great traditional pub. Great selection of ales, lager and ciders

Quite definitely the best Sunday roast we've ever had anywhere.The large portions of pork and beef were so tasty and tender accompanied by a large Yorkshire pudding and a lovely stuffing ball. We each had a jug of the best, homemade gravy and sooooo much veg - roast and new potatoes, parsnips, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, peas, carrots and green beans. All cooked to perfection. Huge choice of desserts as well. Very friendly staff too. We'll definitely return and highly recommend this venue.

Avoid Food decent, drinks decent, staff nice. But has a couple loud crackhead customers swearing and touching customers and staff. vaping in the bar, and pulling their own pints. This is not acceptable in a modern pub, clearly makes the people and staff uncomfortable. Can't go here, puts me on edge.

Decided to go to here with the family for news years eve. My daughter who is 20 is 10 weeks pregnant and vomitted when the food was brought out. The guy running it told us we had to leave even though we had cleaned up her sick ourselves and a lot of customers started on us for no reason! My daughter is extremely distressed over this. Completely out of order!!! Will never come back again. I am pretty sure his name was nick and he was very judgmental and acting in an unprofessional manor. Any by the way we have proof that we turned up at 9.20pm and was thrown out at 10.15. I would like your manager to check the CCTV as my partner said he will take it further if nothing is done about this! You were stood there drinking a pint whilst you were meant to be running the place

I was barged by a worker and customer. Came here for New Year Eve my fiancé who is currently 10 weeks pregnant vomited when food arrived. Very judgemental people. Everyone in there made my fiancé uncomfortable and kicked us out and they all work in a disappointing manner. Wouldn’t recommend this place!!

We went here on new years eve, we found a table. My step daughter is around 3 months pregnant, she don't usually get sickness in the evenings, but this one time she was sick. My partner and her friend helped clean it up, we asked for paper towels to clean it up. We went back there because there was no where else to sit, but the owner came over and told us we had to go. I would like to mention that you cannot throw out a pregnant woman, it is discrimination, which is illegal in most jurisdictions under laws protecting pregnant women. It was only myself and my partner who were drinking. I would like you to watch cctv that proves this, as we will be taking this further.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!!!! Me and my best friend and my best friend boyfriend and her mum and her mum bf went out for new year eve and was having a decent time but my best friend threw up as she is pregnant we cleaned up the sick but the staff was absolutely rude and was trying to kick us out which i find completely wrong, the staff made her feel uncomfortable. My best friend doesn’t deserve any of that especially when she is pregnant. Sort your staff out and be a bit more professional. I will NEVER EVER go back to this place.

Went this afternoon for Sunday lunch with the family, the food and staff were lovely, will definitely return and recommend.

Went there tonight. It had a positive and warm atmosphere, Rhian and the rest of the staff were professional, they made the evening. We had food which was delicious and home cooked. Nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely go back when we are in the area.

Unbelievable Sunday dinner with very generous portions. The staff were fabulous and really accommodating for my toddler with toys to keep him entertained. Food was all homemade and delicious plus a reasonable price! Will definitely be paying another visit 🥰

The women behind the bar age maybe 25 seemed abit disrespectful and rude to others. Food was nice though. Wont come back. Also no access for wheelchair people. Poor.

Took family all meals excellent

Hadn't been here for a few years but was pleasantly surprised how good it is now. Excellent beers (Rev James) and great food. Really good value for money with big portions. We had a chicken curry and a lamb curry, both seemed properly home made (which these days is unusual). So if you haven't been here for a while I'd highly recommend that you try it again.

Wow, best Sunday lunch out for a very long time. Great selection of fresh vegetables and lots of choice as to the meat you want. It was enjoyed in a nice atmosphere with terrific service at a very good valueformoney, well done to the young girls serving you did your boss proud. Thank you.

I don't go there very often but when I do the meals are excellent and can't fault the staff.

Husband had lamb curry and I had the lasagne tonight. I’m glad I asked for just salad with my lasagne and the portion was large. My husband said the lamb curry was really tasty as my lasagne. Really good value for money. Never had a bad meal and we’ve had quite a few I’m working through the menu 😂. So thanks Nick and the team for another great meal.

We had chefs special, 2 lamb curry's half and half served with nan bread. £14.95 each. 99%sure frozen diced lamb mixed into a plain powdered curry sauce you add water to, rice was nice, so was the mango chutney, obviously from a jar, served with what tasted like the frozen skin on chips from Iceland a £1 a bag, served with a small nan cut in half and 3 slices of garlic bread because they had no more nan bread. Our grandson had fish fingers and chips, and boy he loves chips, but left the majority on his plate along with the fish fingers. Our bill came to £48 for food that was mostly left on our plates. I was so very disappointed, we were hungry after being out all afternoon. The staff are lovely, the chef needs training.

Funny little pub! Can't say much right now as we didn't stay long (got mixed up with the other Tredegar arms nearby!) But 4 stars for nice staff and beer garden which looks like it would be cute in the summer!

Booked Sunday lunch at the last minute. They fitted us in. This was our first visit and won't be the last. 3 courses and the food was excellent. Service was very good and friendly. As it's local to us we will frequent it often.

The food was excellent highly recommend it, the atmosphere was also great & the service too ,we had a 3 course meal for our Xmas party there.

Had a fantastic experience here, booked a table for 5 for evening meal, spoke to a lovely lady who arranged it over the phone. Arrived the landlord who I presume had recently taken over was outstanding, his attention to detail was amazing. Food was good presented nicely and was a brilliant price as well. Thank you for a great nice and hope to return again

This pub has been revamped and we noticed that it was sparkling whereas the last time we went in we turned around as it was noticeably grubby. Staff very friendly and fish and chips were delicious. Really good experience.

Needed a buffet to be delivered to nearby venue. The T.A could not have been more helpful and friendly. We were quite specific in what we wanted/ didn't want as it was catering for mainly men!!! The food was delivered to venue and they were even prepared to lay it all out, such excellent service. The food was just perfect, so tasty and very generous portions. All that was required was also provided from serviettes to cutlery, tablecloths etc. There were many compliments from the 60 people who attended on the quality, variety etc of the buffet. Many, many thanks to the ladies at the Tredegar Arms, Rogerstone who we would not hesitate to recommend,nothing was too much trouble.

Visited this place as was journeying from Wales back home. Lovely welcoming staff, great tasting food with amazing size portions! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Will never eat here again. Steak pie too hard to eat. 8 cold chips and cold brocoli. Chicken sent back as wasn't thoroughly cooked. Staff not happy that it was sent back. 1 staff behind the bar run off her feet. Queues constantly. Toilets not clean broken toilet seat. Left and then blocked in by an inconsiderate drinker. Will avoid at all costs. Menu very basic and expensive. Manager not interested in anything that we had to say!

Fab 60th Birthday party, a real pleasure to entertain here.

Staff here were so lovely, welcoming and friendly. Didn't realise the menu was limited to burgers, pizzas etc but at £10 for 2 meals was good value. Enjoyed our visit but wouldn't return if wanting to eat as need a wider choice of food.

I believe that there are three reviews that have been registered under the wrong pub name. The Tredegar Arms Rogerstone has not served Sunday lunches since before the first lockdown. So nobody could have had a Sunday lunch in there recently. I have been a regular at this pub for 40 years and the story someone has posted about being offered drugs is unbelievable. I do not recognise my local in that description at all. Either it has been fabricated maliciously or the author has the wrong pub. There is another pub called the Tredegar Arms at Bassaleg which is a few miles away from this one.

We are so lucky to have this lovely local just 5 minutes away from our home.

Called to book 30 mins before we arrived. Great outdoor set-up and staff couldn't have done more for us. Awesome to have them back open

Rang at 5.50 to ask if any tables spare, told no problem come down, arrived at 6pm and told no free tables, mentioned the fact that we had rung and reluctantly shown to a table in garden with instructions to leave at 7.30, still here at 8pm and 20 free tables around us all evening, need to improve bookings system. Food and beer good, but must be loosing out on a lot of trade......

Really lovely staff, the beer is excellent. Great beer garden and excellent quality renovation inside. Weird to talk about covid in a review, but these guys have gotten safety down to a tee. Can feel confident in coming here during the pandemic, and being able to have a nice time, and do it safely :)

Good pub grub and a brilliant atmosphere

We went for sunday lunch have been there about five times with family went there on Sunday 6th october had the three course sunday lunch the main meal was on a cold plate and was not that hot the meat was fatty we had the lamb,i was not asked how the meal went the veg was good but the peas were not the sweet garden peas i now this is a small thing but do not go backwoods please, I have only put this to let the owner now don't let the food slip also was not asked how our meal was by the waitress so would have told them but will be going back to try again.

I went for the spinach chickpea and sweet potato curry served with half and half and a salad?!. It was very nice and I would go back again

Amazing pub with excellent food

We turned up at lunchtime a group of hungry bowlers, the welcome from the bar staff was all we could ask for, they changed the televisions over to the channel we wanted to watch and supplied us with a variety of good beers. The food was freshly cooked and piping hot from gammon steak to curry and rice evryone cleared thier plates and enjoyed the food. Well worth the visit, looking forward to going back soon.

Stopped for lunch today with my mum and dad. I just had nachos and onion rings. Onion rings ok. Nachos, diabolical. Served in lasagna dish, hot tomato salsa (which was like tomato sauce, soaked in this were nacho chips (so totally soggy)and on the top of all this, a full layer of melted cheese. I actually thought they'd served me lasagna. No guacamole, no sour cream. Revolting, couldn't eat it. Dad had cheese omelette and that was good, mum had Mediterranean tart which was ok. Please Tredegar Arms, if you don't know what nachos are they shouldn't be on you menu. Google it.

Took my mum here again for lunch ... Food was excellent and very good value for money . Service very good too - with a smile ! We will be back again soon

We came across this lovely venue after a visit walking from Newport to the 14 Locks Centre. Deciding to try another famous Rogerstone venue, which turned out not for us, we checked google and saw this venue was very close. I am so glad we made the effort. The pub looks like it has been 'mucked' about with over the years but the current management seem to have done splendidly with what they have. On our first visit we just wanted a beer, there are three hand pulls but only two were 'on' on chatting to the new manager she explained that although during the winter they have all three 'on' in the summer they run with two. This is not a problem as being CAMRA members we would rather have a choice of two well kept beers than thee average pints. We vowed then to return as the menu looked really good and very reasonable. We certainly did return and had some really good pub grub. Two omelettes with home made chips and salad. Again a couple of pints of really nice beer and as it was my birthday some really nice apple pie. Although my wife paid, birthday and that, she said it was very reasonable. There is a very nice beer garden and the location is really attractive

First visit to the Tredegar Arms after visiting the Newport Transporter Bridge. Checked out some recent reviews and thought this place would be great for a Sunday lunch! Sadly not on this occasion. I don’t normally leave reviews but was a memorable one.

Lovely local pub with delicious food and very reasonable prices. Staff are very friendly and helpful.I think this is a popular place to go in the area and booking a table is something what I usually do to avoid disappointment as the pub is cosy. Definitely I will go there soon.
