Chip Stop in Newport

After long day in work decided to buy chips on my way home. Very poor quality tasted yuck went straight in the bin. Unable to upload a picture otherwise, I would have.

Food wasn't the best. The curry had spilt in the bag the sausage was hard. The chips were under cooked the batter on the fish wasn't cooked through

Concept: I decided last moment (since I finished work at 16:50) to join the Maundy Thursday gathering at St Stephen's for dinner (which was 18:30-20:00). Thus, I visited the nearest fish and chip shop for a takeaway food. Timing of visit: Thursday 28/03/2024, 18:15. Order: A cod and a small portion of chips. Price: £8.90. Method of payment: Debit card. Quality of chips: Top (7*). Quality of fish: Comically bad (1*). It should be noted that the fish was so bad (compared to Hortons coffee house and Wetherspoons where I usually eat this food), where during the meal I couldn't stop laughing while eating and my friends took me some photos for Facebook. Finally, I managed to eat a 20% of fish and the rest of it was thrown in the rubbish bin. Behaviour of staff: Helpful (5*).

Sausages were really hard, chips were well over cooked and tasted like they’d been there for weeks - when the food arrived it was cold - such a shame as any other time we’ve ordered from here, the food has been absolutely banging and hot!

Chips are gorgeous and portions are huge!

Food was cold due to it being late excuse was it’s busy and they also wouldn’t refund me

Chips were practically still frozen and hard to bite. Usually order from here and is lovely however yesterday we ordered it was disgusting. Sausages were still very pink on inside. Seemed very rushed. Had to throw it all out. Didn’t ask for refund as we are aware it’s a smaller business. Wont order again :(

We had our sons birthday party and called for amounts needed. They were so helpful. The food came on time so hot and fresh. Best chippy around. Thank you so much for making my sons party even better.

Food was really lovely but the delivery took around 1 hour 45 mins. 😫

Grabbed some lunch chicken kebab and chips. The kebab meat was delish 😋😋 and I prefer proper chip shop chips and not the usual takeaway ones 👍🏻👍🏻

Lovely tasty food, could have done with more gravy, it could have been a little bit hotter but then you can’t expect it to be piping hot when being delivered.

delivery was great and didn't have to wait for for ages but quality of the chips were disgusting we threw them in the bin.

The app updated saying it had been delivered but it hadnt been.

I am disgutid with what they delivered chips were basically burnt not fit for consumption the jumbo sausage was still pink inside chicken supposed to of been in batter but hardly anything on it burger in batter was cold the only thing we could consume was the mushroom in batter I'm totally disappointed with them

Absolutely lovely massive portions never ordered from here before but definitely will in future only downside was the batter on sausage was a bit hard but edible lol

I have not received my food they said it would be delivered between 18:40 - 19:00hrs it as not arrived it is now 19:12hrs so could please give me a refund and pay it back into my account.

Took 4 hours to get the food called 14 times before answer and just said it’ll be there in 10 minutes waited another hour

Food arrived after 40/45 minutes with an item missing. Called up and it arrived an hour later with the rest of my order now freezing. Will not be ordering from here again.

Disgusting service order has STILL not arrived! They told me they had 20 orders at one time. Don’t accept the ordered if you can’t cope. It has now been almost 2 hours since I ordered

Started a new job round the corner about 4/5 months ago and have gone to chip stop everyday since. Great food, great prices and the owner is incredibly nice. Would recommend.

Fish dreadful. So very dry and hard. Not good

Didn't up date then it told me the food has arrived which it hadn't just to find out the fish is so old that I must have been cooked at 5 that evening

Good turned up late and cold. Chips were soggy as a result of the food being late and the batter on the sausage was also very soggy and fatty

Ordered at 18:14 (quoted 30-50 mins). Had a message at 19:55 stating a delay. Then called them at 20:37. He said it would be 8 minutes. Food delivered then at 21:00. Food was cold. Keebab had no salad or sauce. Kids and I ate it because we were hungry, but it wasn't enjoyable reheated. I imagine that the chips would have tasted nice if they were hot and soft. The cod didn't look like it would have ever been nice. Sorry, I don't tend to leave bad reviews,.but this was not a good experience at all. £28 order which I shouldn't have spent here.

Massively delayed took nearly two hours from first ordering to delivery even after speaking to the restaurant and being told it’s on the way will never order again

The food is always great this is the 2nd time I’ve ordered it and it is very lovely now I’m going every week to get some of their chips absolutely delicious especially all the owners.

Delivery was extremely late, they kept delaying it. When the food turned up the chips were severely overdone but also tasted like they had been reheated constantly. Hardly any cheese on the food. Utterly disappointed

I ordered from and the restaurant which was only 80yrds away from me as I was at work. It took 2hrs to deliver. The food was lovely and I have no doubts on that but the service was shocking I chased my order a fews times with phone calls to the shop and delivery driver.

Complete dissatisfaction The food took hours!! Literally and then arrived cold I had to cook for my children who fell asleep waiting for this which completely defeats the purpose of ordering a takeaway. I would like a full refund, and I will not be ordering from here in the future.

I'm amazed at all of the 'good value for money' comments. I just visited there today and the prices for everything are sky high. £2.50 for a kids chips and gravy, and it's a child's handful of chips. For me, a chippy used to bridge the gap between being too lazy to cook but not wanting to spend ££s on a take away. Those days are obviously gone.

If you get the urge on a Wednesday night for a kebab but don't fancy the calorie hit til Friday then this is the place for you!!!! Take the delivery time and multiply it by a world of numbers divided by a load of promises. I'm starving! Let this be a warning!!!

When asked when would be delivered was told it was on its way…waited a further 20mins to the be told that now it’s leaving. Nearly a hour late

Food took two and a half hours to come, rang them was told it was six minutes away, half hour later rang back told it was almost here! It took another 5 minutes to come food was Luke warm and portion size was small I will not order again

After waiting 2 hours for food to be delivered it was cold, only the curry sauce that I ordered was warm ish, I have never had a problem like this before (late delivery) but I did get a cold order before so had to write this review.

Chips were nice Chicken breast ok Ordered regular Chicken donor no option to add salad or sauce. When it did arrive 20 mins late they gave Chicken donor on Chips not in a pitta.

2 hours to turn up food was horrible

the chips where hard and cold, and we waited almost 2 hours for them to be delivered, the shop had poor communication and very bad estimated time of arrival. chips were cold and had no salt nor vinegar. very disappointed will not be purchasing again

Unhappy with service hour late absolutely joke

Food was updated to be 10 minutes late and proceeded to be a further half an hour late. Food lovely bar one foot smelling roll. (Inedible) Overall, not too bad of an experience, few things to work on.

Waited over 3 hours for two fish and chips. Phoned after an hour and was huffed at and told it would be 15 minutes. Later my partner phoned to be told it would be 20 minutes. They were rude, the delivery driver was also rude. I’d avoid and would never order from them again. If there was an explanation or a sorry I’d understand but that was ridiculous. I’d give 0 stars if I could.

I waited nearly two hours for a portion of chips & a kids chips/cheese/gravy, absolutely shocking delivery times, not the first time I’ve had this problem with them either!

Food has not been delivered, have been waiting over two hours. Have called numerous times and have only spoken to someone twice. First time, I was told the food would take 10 minutes, only for the app to update and say ‘enjoy your food’ and to receive nothing twenty minutes later. The second time I was told it would take 5 minutes, 35 minutes later I am writing this because no one is answering the phone and I have yet to receive my order! It’s been over two hours
