So pleased we found this little bakers while on a visit to Monmouth. The Cornish pasties are excellent, plenty of filling and just the right amount of seasoning. Were able to sit outside, with our dog, and chat to the friendly locals at the next table. The staff were great to :) Would definitely visit again if in the area!

We were on a coach holiday from North West England staying at Symmonds Yat. Chepstow was on the itinerary for a couple of hours stop.We were dropped off at the main bus station. We asked a local lady for a recommendation for a decent coffee / snack. She suggested a visit to The Palmer Centre cafe. What a fabulous little gem we found it to be. The place has a loving calm atmosphere, very clean and comfortable. The staff were excellent- friendly & welcoming to strangers ,waitress service a bonus. Food & drink excellent quality for a good price. plus outstanding washroom facilities. Would highly recommend to anyone who is visiting Chepstow to call in for a Palmer centre Cafe experience & give support to a worthwhile community facility

Came in for lunch on a Saturday. Explained I was a coeliac and the chef came out to talk through the menu. He offered to make me anything I wanted. I opted for the fish and chips which were spectacular. The chef also brought out a gluten free flatbread and a chocolate brownie for me to try! absolutely amazing! he even gave me the flatbread dough to take home! definitely recommend

We had booked for Easter Sunday I had reviews saying the parking is awkward and that the restaurant was dated, needed updating etc and that there was no atmosphere. Well I can confirm that this is all nonsense ! The parking was ample and easy. The restaurant is exactly what I want in a county restaurant. It’s fits perfectly with its surroundings. Now as for the food and service they were both excellent. Service was attentive and knowledgeable . I mentioned to Kate that it’s first time in all long time that I could had happily ordered anything off the menu as everything appealed to me. Everyone on the table really enjoyed ever mouthful ! My mother in law said more than once “ I don’t want this to end “ So thank you very much we shall see you again soon.

We had our wedding at The Woodlands Tavern at the end of April and cannot recommend the venue or hosts highly enough! Kerry was brilliant at helping us organise the day and keeping everything running perfectly on the day itself, including decorating the upstairs function room beautifully. Trev worked with us to create a bespoke three course menu which was delicious and perfectly presented. The day was everything we hoped for and was so relaxed. We had the best time and will definitely be utilsing The Woodlands for any future events we may have. Thank you Kerry and Trev for making our day so special!

Highly recommend the takeaway Sunday lunch service. Ordered 8 meals, 2 days in advance, as it was for a large group. A good selection of meat to choose from (beef, pork, chicken, turkey or lamb) or a selection of all meats for an additional £2 per person on top of the base price of £14 per person for cold to reheat at home or £16 for hot. I chose the cold option, as not a local to Shirenewton so would have to reheat anyway. Fantastic amount of vegetables, including Roast & mash potatoes, mashed swede, parsnips, cabbage, carrots, french beans, peas & cauliflower cheese. Also stuffing, sausage and Yorkshire pudding and a pot of delicious gravy per meal. Pick up is available between 12pm-2pm. All packaged in recyclable foil trays with lids and boxed for easy pick up. Payment by cash or card on collection. Thank you Lucy and your team, for your exceptional, delicious food. I will definitely be ordering again.

Great cosy, dog-friendly pub with open fire, free parking, shower & toilet available 24/7. Just spent 2 nights there parked-up in our van, free as long as you eat / drink in the pub which we were more than happy to do. Good home-cooked food, generous portions, good beer too ! Di, staff and locals were very welcoming, we felt included almost as 'part of the team' by the time we left, felt like we'd made new friends. Highly recommended, well worth stopping over here ! Usk is a lovely well-kept town, great riverside walks or you can walk higher up around the castle. Also free car-park in the town so you are free to spend as much time there as you like. Lovely place, will definitely return.

Visited after a lovely post-Christmas walk along the canal. I ordered a bowl of soup and my husband only wanted a coffee. This cafe is in a beautiful setting and the menu looked good. However, I waited ages for the soup to arrive and in fact thought they had forgotten about me so I went to ask. I was told there were two other orders in front of me. My husband had long finished his coffee when it did eventually arrive. Great potential here but the service needs to be sorted. Hopefully this was just a blip on the day we visited.

Very poor customer experience, we ordered poached eggs on toast which weren’t hot and the bread was not toasted enough, scrambled eggs arrived with chives on, so I apologised & told the server (in chefs whites) that I cannot eat onions/chives, only to be rudely told that I should have told them when I ordered, to which I responded that had I ordered anything that may have contained them I would have, but she walked away repeating that I should have said. The eggs were remade, but it was dry, tasteless and cooked the microwave and the toast cold with tasteless spread. Very disappointed as had heard good things about Nellie’s, I mentioned it to the manager who apologised, then said but now you know we put chives on. 🙄

Unfortunately this meal was awful. The mixed grill was bland and the pork was bleeding. My partner had the ribs and it was flavourless and extremely fatty- very poor quality. The children shared a burger which was such a low quality meat it looks so processed. We brought it to the attention of the bar maid within 5 minutes of the meal- they were adamant to take the mixed grill and cook it but in fact we asked them not to and they still included it on the bill despite not eating it (£25!) The ribs were taken off the bill but it was such a poor experience. It makes sense that the restaurant was empty when we walked in. Very very poor quality food for not cheap prices and the celebratory meal we were hoping for.

I stumbled upon Nicholls while exploring Abergavenny, and what a delightful find! This charming café offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere and truly delicious homemade food. Everything tasted fresh and lovingly prepared—especially the cakes, which are absolutely worth saving room for! The staff were friendly and attentive, making the whole experience feel personal and relaxed. Whether you’re after a hearty lunch or a coffee and a sweet treat, Nicholls is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town!

I stayed for just the one night mid week in March and really enjoyed the stay. The New Court In is a pub with a number of rooms upstairs and there's a separate entrance if you're arriving late or leaving early. It's located in the centre of USK with all the amenities a short walk away. You can park outside on the street for free. The staff are fantastic, friendly and welcome you like their best ever guest and the rooms are comfortable with decent bedding and a really comfortable mattress ensuring a good night's sleep. My room was compact with a small ensuite and typical in size for buildings of this type. Tea & a pod coffee machine or on hand and you get fresh milk in a little thermos rather than the uht stuff that is common, this was a nice touch. Food was very good indeed - home made burger and gigantic onion rings was my choice for dinner and there's a home cooked breakfast in the morning with proper thick toast that's actually toasted and hot! Tea comes in a pot and you get a mug, another nice touch. You have to preorder breakfast the night before so it's pretty much ready when you get down in the morning. It's a great place to stay or eat. Try it you will not be disappointed.
