Visited after a lovely post-Christmas walk along the canal. I ordered a bowl of soup and my husband only wanted a coffee. This cafe is in a beautiful setting and the menu looked good. However, I waited ages for the soup to arrive and in fact thought they had forgotten about me so I went to ask. I was told there were two other orders in front of me. My husband had long finished his coffee when it did eventually arrive. Great potential here but the service needs to be sorted. Hopefully this was just a blip on the day we visited.

The Green Flute is hospitality at its best. The staff are friendly, the welcome warm and they will always go the extra mile to help out. I am a canoe instructor and I regularly turn up on wet days and sometimes with a loads of damp kids and they are so accommodating. We are fed, warmed up and can head back out with smiles. Thank you so much for your wonderful service.

Having visited last Summer and had a really lovely sandwich we called in today and ordered some. It came as in sliced bread with a teensy bit of greenery, one slice of cue, grated carrot and half a mini tomato. The taste was ok but after last year’s it was a real let down. I’m wondering if the cafe is under different ownership. Won’t be returning in a hurry ... great shame.

We had moored overnight at Goytre Wharf on our canal boat holiday, so were a little early, waiting outside when the cafe opened. We ordered 3 breakfasts at 10am. We were the first ones there so didn't think it would be a long wait. Tea was brought to us as 10:15, toast at 10:25, breakfasts not until 10:40, so tea and toast were cold. Other than the very long wait, the breakfasts were delicious, so I would still recommend a visit if you want to sit outside on a sunny day watching the boats, and don't mind a long wait.

Just got back from a very disappointing lunch! We only ordered a panini & a tuna sandwich..yet had to wait over 45 minutes! We could see other people who’d ordered after us getting served before us & were just about to give up & demand a refund when our sub standard lunch arrived. Given it had taken 45 minutes we were expecting something a little more pleasing to the eye than an anaemic tuna mayonnaise sandwich with an accompanying strand of lettuce, half a cherry tomato & a single cucumber slice. The panini was ok but with an equally disappointing garnish accompanying it. We weren’t offered any cutlery or napkins anyway so probably just as well there wasn’t too much. When challenged about the extreme delay in producing such meagre fayre & why people were getting before us, we were told it was because they only had 2 panini makers. Had it been very busy & had we seen a tsunami of paninis exiting the kitchen it may have been a reasonable explanation but it wasn’t and they weren’t. All very poor, wont be returning, won’t recommend!

we wait outside because doesn't open until 10am. Tried the big double doors at 10.08am but with the door locked and chairs stacked upside down on the tables, we assume that we must be wrong. Staff members chatting away inside but still chairs on tables and still locked. Eventually a staff member opens the doors, no good morning or apologies for being late opening just a curt " the other door was open ". This door was a single door slightly ajar as if it was letting air in , no more than that. OK I was mistaken but would've expected a cheery " good morning, sorry we didn't see you by the other door". She made me feel like I was at school again " silly boy, wrong door, not the big obvious one". Food was not good, would've liked to say that it made up for the condescending welcome but it didn't. What was worse was that there was an awful smell of stagnant water around the table which made me feel nauseous. When I spoke to a friend about our trip, they said that they too had be patronised by a staff member and the description fitted exactly.

It was my daughter’s birthday and after a delicious lunch at the Secret Garden we decided to visit the Green Flute At first we thought it was closed as the last time we visited the whole place was decked with flowers - growing and in dainty vases on each table. We pushed open the door and asked if they were closed. We’re shutting at 4 was barked at us. We quickly had an extremely bad coffee and tea and a young girl came to the door and snapped ‘we’re closing’ I have to use the loo I excused You’ll have to go around the back we’re locked now Sadly if I had seen the toilets first I would never have stayed Filthy stinking - how sad when it was so gorgeous before !!

We wanted to have a canal walk and were attracted to the Green Flute Cafe web site at Goytre Wharf. We weren’t disappointed, lots of seating inside and out with views of the canal, very picturesque and a lovely welcome. We chose here as we were reassured that they could meet my dietary needs. Nothing is too much trouble. They do a range of light lunches and home made cakes. Their gluten free bread on the toasty is to die for! The best I have ever tasted. They are open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am - 3pm and they have a room available for hire for small functions.

This place is a great addition to Usk and the Rural Life Museum. My son and I were greeted by the very friendly staff on entering. We called in here initially just for coffee and a bacon butty while waiting for friends and didn't expect much as it is 'just a café tagged onto the Rural Museum'. We ended up coming back to eat here with our friends as they were welcome with their small dog (even offering towels for muddy dogs!) The two ladies were great, and the food was lovely and fresh. For lunch we had quiche and salad, an all day breakfast, and a ploughmans. A very pleasant surprise and a little gem.

Located at the bottom of the main car park. This little cafe has friendly staff and provides good tasty snacks. Although the range is a little restricted, the quality is always consistant. Happened upon this cafe on our way from Malvern to Swansea. It was busy with tables soon filled. Delicious lunch of bacon sandwich and a beef and salad sandwich both of which were reasonably priced. Service was friendly and quick although our lady seemed to forget orders and had to come back to refresh her memory. Nobody seemed to mind in the slightest! It is attached to the Usk Rural Life museum and although we didn't have time to visit it seemed worth a visit too. There is a massive free car park available.

A great bonus to the facilities at the museum is this cafe in the foyer. It is light and spacious and full of locally made goodies; tempting snacks and light lunches.
