The Castle Inn in Monmouthshire

What a find...... not very often I give 5* all round but a last minute booking for our return journey home, following a trip to Shropshire to buy a motorhome. Wonderful dog friendly Inn situated in the pretty village of Usk. Very warm welcome on arrival buy a member of staff, who showed us to our spacious room in the attic of this lovely country pub. As we arrived early evening we got a well needed drink, before we were shown to our table. Food was amazing, excellent value for money and served by friendly attentive staff. Great night's sleep, with a continental breakfast provided in the room, small fridge even had fresh milk, fruit juices & yoghurt in. Highly recommended & if travelling again nearby wouldn't hesitate in booking again. Thank you.

The meal was nice and the service was good but there was no disabled toilet and as a wheelchair user it is very frustrating not being able to access the facilities independently like everyone else.

Disappointed. Stayed overnight. Been here before but not the same as I remember. Shower not working properly and bar closing early even though really busy time.

Great place first time I've been. You had better be hungry cause the portions are massive. The price a bit on the steep side but at least you get bang for ur buck.

We circled around the area in search of a friendly pub after a visit to Raglan Castle. Came with my 11 year old. Very friendly and accommodating. Lovely food. Delicious. And great selection within a price range to accommodate everyone’s budget.

Only popped in for a pint but lovely atmosphere. Very welcoming staff. Will definitely be back.

Attended a get together as a group of 8 Fabulous food service and atmosphere. Looking forward to returning Highly recommend the curry, a friend had fish and that looked good and they confirmed it was. Generous portions

Little gem of a place in the heart of wales. Dog friendly and staff very helpful. The prices were excellent and will be coming back. 5 min walk to a lovely dog friendly pub with open fire and cask ales.

Booked the castle Inn , for a few nights stay ,as a base for the wetlands visit, what a great location, very friendly staff along with very welcoming locals, dog 🐕 friendly which is a bonus, nice relaxing room, clean , overall would definitely use again due to the friendly locals & staff ,

Charming building in a great location. Staff were friendly, helpful, polite and professional. Dinner was fantastic....really, really good quality and value. Although they don't do breakfast, the yogurts in the room and pastries/fruit on the landing were perfectly adequate and included in the price. Room was a little tired, needed decoration and the bathroom wasn't great. Overall a good experience, we'll definitely stay again.

Went to the castle Inn last night with friends Not a big menu, but doesn’t need to be with the standard and quality of food served The prawn in chile starter was amazing Two if our group had the battered cod, again faultless My belly pork and mustard mash was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing The poached sous with new potatoes could not be faulted Good wine choice, ales on tap, what more could you ask for Thank you one and all

Nice pub/restaurant in a small market town. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, poor parking in area unless you don't mind a 10 minute walk.

Lovely friendly pub in Usk, the Autumn Fair was taking place in the town, so a good day to visit. Nice atmosphere .

This was the perfect venue for our recent funeral wake. Charlotte made the booking very easy and was so accommodating. After the initial enquiry by telephone communication was prompt via email. We found it difficult making a choice of sandwiches for the day as the selection to choose 5 varieties from was plentiful and so varied. We were able to use a private room to the rear of the pub that was very comfortable for our guests. Plenty of tables and seating. The bar was open throughout and they also provided fresh tea and coffee for the duration. The buffet was plentiful and looked fabulous on arrival. It was also delicious! All of the food was freshly made. The variety of sandwiches were very well received and also the gorgeous home made sausage rolls. The cakes were scones and welsh cakes that had been freshly baked and were beautiful and light. There was also a cheese board with Stilton, Cheddar and Brie with French bread. We did have some food left at the end and takeaway cartons were provided,so that guests could take some delights home with them. Absolutely fabulous service from all the staff who looked after us so well. Huge thanks.

A must visit pub with great food at sensible prices

Top notch traditional pub, great menu (particularly desserts), good quality and value and they will look after you and any dog friends you bring. Only slight negative is that the interior is a little dated.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Choice of pink sirloin or slow roast beef, as well as other meats and gnocchi options. Very friendly staff and good beers.

Had a lovely meal here on last night of holiday. Good food and great beer! Had venison and apple burger as per photo.

A great pub with decent beers and friendly staff

Stayed one night, nice room with comfortable bed, super friendly staff, quaint little place. The pub is a lovely hangout for friendly locals and the food is fantastic. The burger is huge and delicious. The only downside is that the road traffic noise from the road. It gets busy from early morning as the village's main bust stops are right outside on the little square plus the morning commuters. If that doesn't bother you, this is certainly a lovely place to stay.

Sat outside for a few drinks as a family with our dog, ended up having lunch. We loved the seating area outside with its pretty pots and cushions. Usk is beautiful with lots of pretty plant displays everywhere. Inside the pub there are lovely touches like flowers and scented candles in the corridor, with toiletries like body spray to use in the ladies which was nice. The man behind the bar was so nice and friendly, with three cute resident dogs in around the bar! Thank you for a lovely afternoon, and the dog treats😊 Nice ales and basket meals. We would love to return.

Lovely lunch in a beautiful pub ,food was delicious so we all went for a desert too .Staff were very friendly and competent. We enjoyed a drink in the gorgeous garden afterwards, highly recommended.

Really impressed by the room we had booked, only let down was no cooked breakfast available, but the room was well stocked with juices, yoghurts and biscuits etc. We definitely would return. Thank you .

Great unplanned lunch stop. Food was fab, we plan to try and come back this way to eat more of it! Plus they have dark chocolate sorbet which is a rare find.

I had a whistle stop visit during a muti day cycle race that passed through Usk. Speed was important, and the food was quick and good quality, but what really stood out was the friendliness of the staff and the service. I had wet kit from a storm in France and the lady serving us (sorry - I was in too much of a brain fog to catch your name) offered to tumble dry my gear before I cycled on to Hay on Wye. A lovely gesture which made a big difference. It was also lovely to get a follow up message on the race website saying how the pub had watched my progress after I left - great people!

We’ve now been twice. Service and food have been exceptional. We had a roast beef roll and blade of roast beef in a giant Yorkshire pub that were to die for. The following visit we had their chicken and beef burgers which were huge. Lovely beer garden. Dog friendly.

What a lovely Friendly Pub, nothing too much trouble for staff and service fab. We stayed 1 night with our daschund, Buddy. He was treated like royalty with treats and a soft Matt left in our room for him🐶❤️ very dog friendly pub. We had a tasty meal, fish and chips were all home cooked and delicious, Tagliatelle was very tasty too. Lovely quaint village pub and beer garden. Rooms well equipped with little extras that made our stay even more special. Thankyou to all the fab Team🙏👍🍾🥂🍻

Friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere on a sunny day trip to Usk.

I went into the Castle Inn on a Bank Holiday because my Mini had a blow out. I had to get home to London because I had surgery the following morning and all my roadside service could offer was a violently expensive tow to a garage in Newport that would not open until the next day, leaving me stranded with no transport and nowhere to stay. The Castle Inn was welcoming, friendly and sympathetic and such was the atmosphere that within seconds of walking in, people were helping me. To cut a long story short, both the bar staff and the customers were all so kind and helpful that my Mini was back on its wheels with a new tyre in no time. This is the perfect Village pub - it offered me a haven and a cool drink and made me feel comfortable and at home. Next time I am in Wales I am going to make a point of going back to visit because you won't find a nicer and more friendlier pub anywhere. Thank you to all staff and customers at the Castle Inn. Lovely place helpful staff and nice garden

We stayed for two nights and loved our room. It was bright, modern and clean with a comfy bed and nice ensuite. The location is really handy for walking to any of Usk's highlights. While no sit-down breakfast is provided, there are some breakfast items provided in your room each day (fresh pastries, yoghurts, biscuits, brownies, fruit juice, tea/coffee etc). They have won several awards for their food, so if you intend to eat in their restaurant book a table at your earliest convenience as it gets fully booked well in advance. We would definitely stay there again and intend to visit for Sunday lunch very soon.

We went for Sunday lunch for a birthday celebration. The staff really looked after us from the moment we walked in. There was a good menu choice for Sunday lunch and everyone had a good meal. The Pub also had a good selection of beer and lager. Everyone had a great day. I would definitely recommend this Pub.

Booked Sunday lunch here as we were staying a night locally and it had some good reviews. We were sat in the front bar area rather than the rear restaurant section and preferred this as it was seemed a little cosier with a nice atmosphere. Great job all round, delicious and well served food together with attentive service from the friendly barman. The roast beef was very tender and plentiful, good depth of flavour on the gravy, well cooked veg and a very impressive Yorkshire pub! What more could you want. The kids fish and chips was maybe a touch on the expensive side at £8 but didn't change what was a great Sunday lunch experience! Desserts are made in house and the sticky toffee pudding was enjoyed by us all. We'd definitely return if we were passing and would certainly recommend to others, especially considering how many pubs are in the immediate area! Great job all round and a very strong five stars from us!

One of the best Sunday lunches I’ve eaten. Vegetables and meat were first class as was the friendly staff.

This is our first visit for Usk and it is lovely. We had a a wander around the square and came upon this pub. We had not booked but they were happy to accommodate us. The pub is very nice a lot of atmosphere. The menu cover the normal favourites and some specials. I had the late starter, nothing special but it was OK. The main was the pork belly with red cabbage and mash. It was very nice and I would have eat it all over again. The service is astonishing, when you order something then look away and it arrives in a few minutes. The servicing staff a very pleasant. All in all it was a nice experience.

Staff were friendly, efficient and happy to help. nothing was too much trouble! Quality of food was superb and delicious! The pub was welcoming and of high standard. The toilets were the cleanest I’ve ever visited! I would highly recommended for small or big private functions as there is plenty of room!

Really friendly pub top quality ales.

We went to Usk specifically hoping to have lunch in a different establishment which we had used and enjoyed in the past. However, they had no tables available. Looking for somewhere else to eat we came across "The Castle Inn", and boy are we glad we did. Friendly accommodating staff, great service and delicious food beautifully presented means that this has now become our favourite destination in Usk. We will definitely be returning. By the way, the creme brulee was the best I've ever had, and I've had a few !

8 adults and 2 highchair children went here for Sunday lunch for our sons 40th birthday, was so good and really friendly staff, we had a great time, thank you

We stayed the night with our dog and had a lovely welcome at the castle inn, extra fuss was made of mossy. The room was spacious and clean with a very comfy bed and pillows. We eat a vegan diet and the milk and breakfast goods in our room were all plant based. When we are in the area again then we wont think twice about staying here. Diolch yn Fawr
