Unfortunately this meal was awful. The mixed grill was bland and the pork was bleeding. My partner had the ribs and it was flavourless and extremely fatty- very poor quality. The children shared a burger which was such a low quality meat it looks so processed. We brought it to the attention of the bar maid within 5 minutes of the meal- they were adamant to take the mixed grill and cook it but in fact we asked them not to and they still included it on the bill despite not eating it (£25!) The ribs were taken off the bill but it was such a poor experience. It makes sense that the restaurant was empty when we walked in. Very very poor quality food for not cheap prices and the celebratory meal we were hoping for.

We've visited here a few times and always received a friendly, warm welcome. Today is my wife's birthday so we decided to sample the food as well as a glass of wine and a beer. We both went for the chicken and ham pie and were glad we did! Homemade and delicious. There was plenty of it and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend this little gem of a pub if you enjoy good, home cooked food in a warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Having not long returned home from having a meal here, I feel impelled to put in writing our experience. A few days ago I called in to see about booking a table for my Birthday with my family. My son is in a wheelchair and find sometimes we can’t access some of the older pubs so thought I would check it out first. Paul, the landlord couldn’t have been more helpful, even down to measuring the table height for me to ensure we could get my son under it. He was so kind and thoughtful as well as funny. When we arrived tonight they had reserved a table, put some banners up and decorated the table. They had even raised the table slightly to make sure my son had plenty of room. The food was outstanding with plenty of choice. Normally when I order a rare steak it can be hit and miss on whether it’s rare or medium when it arrives. Tonight’s was perfect and better still the lovely waitress came and asked if the steak was cooked to how I like it. The choice of desserts was fantastic and I would highly recommend the crumble and custard. If I’d had room after such a large meal I would have tried a few other desserts too lol. We really will be going back and would HIGHLY recommend to others. Thank you to everyone there, you have made my birthday a very special one and not one I will forget.

We were staying in a cottage up the road from The Carpenters Arms, we decided to have our meal here for our first night. It was very accommodating, I had a pram so sometimes feel in peoples way but we were directed to seats where I wouldn’t have to move the pram in and out. The gentleman who served us, we presumed he was the owner, was very friendly and welcoming, so was a younger boy who was waiting on. Manners were impeccable. The food was better than ‘pub grub’, it was all cooked amazingly with a great menu too. We couldn’t believe it was less than £30 for two mains and two pints of lager (we paid similar to this in a Wetherspoons type pub the following night and the standers of food didn’t compare). Would love a local like this in my area. Excellent place.

We have just enjoyed a 2 night stay in one of the cottages at the Carpenters Arms. The cottage is great - has all the amenities you might require for a self contained holiday rental. The landlord was a friendly host happy to try and accommodate our needs. I cannot comment on the pub itself as we unfortunately did not have the opportunity to sample the fare - this is something we will put right next time.

Called having driven past several times lately and like the look of the place as I’ve gone by. The landlord was welcoming and staff very attentive and helpful. We all felt welcomed and sat down and were quickly asked what we would like to drink. The Sunday lunch was very reasonable and the portions were ample. For a family of four where 3 had a smaller lunch and myself had a large, along with a drink each it came to £37, oh that also included one of us having a desert as well. You won’t find it much cheaper anywhere else in the area and the food was extremely good.

Food was good and very reasonably priced. Service was very good and the landlord was happy to chat even though it was fairly busy. Clearly popular with locals which is always a good sign. The map location on TripAdvisor is wrong though as it is south of Trelleck not north.

This was our 2nd visit to the Carpenters Arms and it didn't disappoint the variety of dishes available is brilliant. The salad was a real treat, with strawberries, grapes and watermelon as well as a very generous helping of ham, we will definitely return next time we are visiting family in the area.

Stayed here with my mother, brother and best friend the night before my wedding. We got ready here in the morning with hair stylist and make up artist coming to us here. We made the most of the living space to get ready and pop a few bottles before heading over to the venue. Lovely spacious living areas, fantastic self catering facilities, warm cosy bedrooms. Absolutely everything you would possibly need to feel like you are staying in a home away from home. Pub next door is owned by the cottage owner Joy and serves lovely food. We didn't eat the night we stayed but had Sunday dinner here when we first found it and it was fab, huge portions, choice of desserts and reasonably priced.

I've been to the Carpenters Arms many times and have always found the staff very welcoming and the food always top quality. They have a nice selection of traditional pub grub which I believe is all sourced locally and is fresh. Portion sizes are very generous, very good value for money. Fish and chips are a must!!

We visited here today on the basis of previous reviews. We were not disappointed. An excellent pub providing an excellent Sunday lunch of good quality and large portions. The food is apparently locally sourced, and was, as a result, very tasty. We will have no hesitation in calling again when we are next in the area.

I have noticed that my review of this pub has been taken down. I find this very disappointing & exceptionally dishonest. They have since contacted the person who recommended and told them my card was not accepted, this is untrue. I would like an explanation. The food was awful & it makes the whole use of tripadvisor useless.

I stayed at the cottage adjacent to the carpenters arms with 3 friends for 3 nights, the location is great, accommodation was very good and a visit to the pub was superb. Joy and her husband were very welcoming, the food was fantastic, I went for the chicken and prawn Balti with rice followed by choc fudge cake, portions were large and the food was very tasty, well worth a visit.

We chose the Carpenters Arms as a midpoint between Northampton and Carmarthen as a meeting point. In short, we had a great experience with very convivial hosts and excellent food. We would definitely recommend the baked haddock! Can't comment on the beer as we were driving - shame!

Pleasant atmosphere with hospitable hosts. My wife had an excellent sirloin and my rabbit and parsnip pie was the best pie I have had in a pub restaurant.

When we four arrived on a cold, windy Thursday January evening, the place was deserted, but by the time we left, replete with chips, rabbit and parsnip pie, a couple of fish dishes and a mighty curry, the place was full of people playing darts and meeting friends. Both the atmosphere of the pub and the quality of the food were really good and when next in this area we will certainly be pleased to eat here again. By the way , the side dish of cauliflower cheese was probably the best I've ever had outside of home!

We found this place by chance around 7 years ago when we lived in a village outside Chepstow. A local flyer through the door listing pubs and restaurants in the area. We tried a few on the list but none of them really gave us reason to go back again until working through the list we booked a table at the Carpenters arms. Having been once we threw the list away. If you are looking for a real country pub with delicious home prepared food then look no further. Although the pub was quite a way from our village it was the place to visit when eating out. In the 4 years we visit we never had cause for complaint. It's just a lovely village pub with good beer and great food. We left the area some 3 years ago and have struggled to find anything to match the Carpenters in the area we now live. Earlier this year we happened to be in the area again for a couple nights and of course we ate there both nights. It was as if we had travelled back in time. A warm welcome, a great pint and great food at a reasonable price. I must add that the fish and chips are to die for. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Whilst passing by the carpenters arms we decided to pull up to get something to eat. It was a Wednesday at three pm so we assumed it would be open. I went up to the front door and after attempting to push it open I found it to be closed - so I knocked - suddenly the first floor window opened and the owner stuck her head out. "We're closed, obviously" she spat "that's why the doors closed- thanks for disturbing us". Not the friendly welcome we were expecting. Perhaps it's best we all leave this lady undisturbed.

Carpenters Arms was recommended to us by our Host Emma whilst staying at Brontes cottage Trellech. And she wasn't wrong about the 'vats of chips!'. make sure you're hungry because the portions are huge! Fantastic home cooked pub food and very friendly hosts and waiting staff, hopefully be back later this year with family. We shared a whitebait starter and had the steak rare which was cooked to perfection. No room for pudding tho and my other half has a big appetite. Went back on our last night and I tried the rabbit and parsnip pie and was not disappointed.

Took my sales team here for lunch, 10 of us in total. The food is incredible and you certainly won’t go hungry. Everyone at the pub is friendly and can’t do enough for you. Feels like a good old fashioned boozer set in an amazing position on the Wye. Everyone only had good things to say about the place. Steak is a specialty here. No hesitation in recommending the Rose and Crown. Thanks all who looked after us that day.

Lovely Irish landlady was extremely accommodating to me & my two boys.. Service was how service used to be before the big pub chains took over everything… Food was brilliant.. Had to have the bread pudding as haven’t had it since I was a kid.. took me right back! Definitely recommend and will return 👌🏼
