We were on a coach holiday from North West England staying at Symmonds Yat. Chepstow was on the itinerary for a couple of hours stop.We were dropped off at the main bus station. We asked a local lady for a recommendation for a decent coffee / snack. She suggested a visit to The Palmer Centre cafe. What a fabulous little gem we found it to be. The place has a loving calm atmosphere, very clean and comfortable. The staff were excellent- friendly & welcoming to strangers ,waitress service a bonus. Food & drink excellent quality for a good price. plus outstanding washroom facilities. Would highly recommend to anyone who is visiting Chepstow to call in for a Palmer centre Cafe experience & give support to a worthwhile community facility

Found the Palmer Centre almost by accident. We were made very welcome. On this cold morning the warmth of the atmosphere made the visit a delight. We will visit again when we are in Chepstow.

Was last here for a quiz night! The refurbishment has changed the main cafe area into a calm, welcoming place. The new layout and decor is aimed at helping people with dementia feel safe. Good coffee at a good price too!!

Thought I would try the Palmer Centre cafe on my lunch break to help a local business out but sadly was treated disgustingly by the volunteer. Note on the door says ‘go to the kitchen to be served’, which I did, but after waiting around 8 minutes I gently tapped on the door and this is how the conversation went: Me: Excuse me but can I order something please? Old woman: (no reply, just a very evil look), she huffed, picked up her order pad and stared at me again (no,hello, how can I help, what would you like to order, in fact not one word was spoken). Me: Can I have an earl gray please? Old woman: What? What’s that? Me: It’s a tea. Old woman: (no response, just tutted). Me: If you don’t sell them I’ll have a normal tea instead. Old woman: (just stared at me as if I were an alien). Me: Tell you what, just forget it (and walked out). I know this Centre is run by volunteers but there is no excuse to be so rude. The basics of any customer service should be ,hello, what would you like, goodbye’. It’s not hard and the way the old woman was with me was totally unacceptable. I will never return and suggest if this establishment can’t provide any form of customer service, to not bother opening at all. If I could give it no stars I would as that is what it deserves!

The cafe is very close to the famous town arch and a mere ten minute walk from Chepstow Castle. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed a very attractively priced cup of coffee. We will call again.

Went here tonight for the first time. I was put off my visit from the offset. My partner was parking the car because it was hammering it down, after giving my name, the waiter went to what I think might have been the kitchen, before seating us. I asked another member of staff if I could order drinks whilst my partner parked, as I know how much he’d love to have a Guinness ready for him. I asked what I think was the manager, to whom he replied, I believe my colleague is serving you, can’t you see in soaking wet (from the rain). He then proceeded to roll his eyes and scoff at me. No, I didn’t notice you were drying yourself, and even if you were, don’t do it at the bar, where it was usual for people to ask to order a drink? I wouldn’t be writing this review if I was just met with no problem, I’ll get those for you as soon as I can. Having worked and lived in pubs my entire life, this certainly isn’t the service I would’ve provided, especially to evidently new customers. It put a sour taste in our mouth for the whole time we were there. We won’t be retuning.

Just had fish bites and chips. Absolutely stunning!! The inside of the chips were fluffy and soft and the fish tasted so good. Will definitely call in again

Lovely Irish landlady was extremely accommodating to me & my two boys.. Service was how service used to be before the big pub chains took over everything… Food was brilliant.. Had to have the bread pudding as haven’t had it since I was a kid.. took me right back! Definitely recommend and will return 👌🏼
