Wonderful local pub atmosphere and beer was very reasonable especially during happy hour. Food was very tasty but pricey and without the option for mashed potato for the pie or sausages. Portion size pretty decent though.

This pub needs to update its opening hours on its website, social media and indeed this page… popped there after walking at 5:35pm and it was closed. No sign of opening imminently either despite advertising as open from 5pm…

Lovely character pub not far from where we were staying. Booked for an evening meal and were made very welcome with our large dog accompanying us. Food was tasty, my steak was very good and perfectly cooked. My only small criticism was that the plates were cleared the second we had eaten the last mouthful which made if all feel a bit rushed. But other than that it was all great.

What a find...!!!!. A true country pub that just oooozes tradition and homely feelings.. A good selection of some excellent cusine that could very easily be on a restaurant menu in a city or town.. Staff were very welcoming and attentive in regards your orders, and follow up during your dining experience.. If you're outside there is plenty of outdoor seating and while you're sat across the road from the premises, the wonderful scenic views are just so relaxing and it just gives you that breath of fresh air we all need sometimes.. For us it's a 10 out 10... If you're travelling and passing nearby, divert and enjoy this wonderful country pub experience.. We'll definitely be returning here again... Well.. We have returned 2/10/2024.. Pie& pint night.. Again, we couldn't fault the ambience, the quality of the cusine presented to our table and the warm friendly and professional welcome/ service of the staff.. The pie was full of ingredients and pastry was light and tasted delicious..

Went on the 8th September for a family meal for my birthday as it was recommended by friends . Really looked forward to it and it was a real disappointment! The steak was awful and the Stilton sauce we ordered with it was like watered down mushroom soup , not a trace of Stilton ! I had the chefs special , well that is not chef level In My eyes . No condiments to accompany the food , when I asked for redcurrant for my lamb as it was supposed to be in the gravy , but couldn’t taste it . there was none available ! We decided to leave our dog at home as we didn’t want to eat in the dog area , but was put there anyway even though the pub was empty apart from a bale behind with two wining dogs . I work as a cook and understand it’s hard with rising prices , but if you got a good chef you can charge the price and people would be happy to pay for tasty food , but personally it was overpriced and tasteless . Even the fish was bland ! So we are sorry but won’t be returning again ! And £6.10 for a pint of larger ?? was not value for money .

What a find of a genuine country pub that this was a pleasure dining in... Genuine country pub with a very homely feel about it.. The cusine here is more than pub grub, in my opinion ... They could very easily be on any restaurant menu in a town or city...so a well done too the chef and team in the kitchen... And there are daily specials on the board... The dishes were cooked with flair and presentation, served to the table hot, and both our starters and mains tasted delicious.. Staff were very welcoming and very attentive in their interaction with us, the customers.. We will 100% be returning here, and we've no excuses as to why we've never eaten here before tonight as we live around 20 minutes away.. Seating outside is plentiful, and should you just want to sit, relax, and enjoy a cuppa or a glass of wine and enjoy some beautiful scenery in front of you, then again you won't be dissapointed sitting here... It's a 10/10 from us...

Disappointing visit to the old family favourite pub. Traveled distsnce to meet friends for food. Kitchen closes at 1415 on Friday. Arrived well before this time and no cooking, despite website showing times. No flexibility from the owner, simply saying the" kitchen staff seem to do what they want" 5 customers lost and went elsewhere where lovely food and drinks consumed. This isn't how Brian ran the pub when I was growing up and my experience today was poor.,although I do appreciate you are normally very good, with lovely food. Must do better.

The Horseshoe is situated in a lovely area and has beautiful views. The pub itself has a typical country feel to it which is lovely. However, the staff weren't very welcoming or professional. There was 4 of us that went for an evening meal (27/07/24). One had chicken which was good and the rest of us had steak. One steak was ok. My partners steak was inedible and couldn't be cut with a steak staff and he sent it back. One quarter of my steak was edible, the rest was awful (again, it was impossible to cut with a steak knife). My partners new steak came out and was beautiful, completely different cut of meat. When our plates were collected I informed her that my steak was also a terrible cut, she said would inform the kitchen staff. Not once was we asked how our meals were. We was then offered the dessert menu and our orders were finally taken. After 50 minutes - still no desserts, so we asked for the bill. The bill came super fast which also included the desserts and no discount for the inedible steak. We called the waiter over and informed him that we never received the desserts. Just a simple "oh" and no apology. It was a real let down and no we wouldn't return.

What an utterly CRACKING pub. And the bar manager was an absolute delight as well. The whole staff made it a really personal & welcoming experience. Menu had the classics, such as lasagne and Gammon, but also dishes with a touch more creativity that seemed to require that bit more care and effort. We started with the antipasti and the liver parfait, which were a good start, but the mains were superb. Pork Belly, lamb shoulder, and the duck leg with cherries (photo) were absolute winners. I had the latter and it was 100% 5 stars. Really good quality meat / ingredients all round. We then finished with sticky toffe and the blackcurrant cheesecake. Again, cracking. Good wine menu and the coffee (not enough pubs have cream but the 'shoe did!!) was also really good. Already planning the next visit before we even got home (about 35 mins away)

Myself and a couple of members of my family went for a lunchtime meal yesterday. The garlic mushroom starter tasted very nice, and was quite filling. Two of us had the ribeye steak, with peppercorn sauce and chips which was nice and the other family member had the chicken and black pudding pie which again was nice. However a negative which we we all agreed on was the amount and contents of the side salad, (green leaves of some description) wasn't to anyone's liking and the twist of orange was off putting, which I had to put on a side plate. Some good old iceberg lettuce is just as good !. Over all a nice meal in a lovely pub.

As family of four, we stopped by here at the end of a day in the hills. We just googled "nearby restaurants" and this one popped up. We did not book, turning up at around six o'clock starving hungry, and there was some space to park the car. The interior was charming and traditional, warm and nicely lit with some candles and classic pub tables and seating. No booming music or rowdy clientele. We were quickly accomodated and sat down by a very polite and attentive waiter and given the menu. The starters and mains covered some really interesting choices, nothing too weird, but way better than normal "pub grub". It was a compact menu which for me is always a very good sign, but as family with a vegetarian, a fussy 12 year old and 6ft 2 teen who could eat a horse, we all had a hard time choosing from the excellent options. I went for confit duck in a cherry sauce, which was absolutely divine. My son had a homemade curry with chips and rice which he wolfed down (and proper filled him up), and my wife had a broccoli soup which she said was delicious. We managed some deserts too, even though we were stuffed after the main course. The choice of deserts was good, with classics such as bread and butter pudding and treacle tart with custard and a slice of cheesecake about half the size of a house brick. We all had some drinks (with some nice ale and IPA on tap) and the whole thing was a good chunk less than £100 for a family of four which felt more than reasonable! The waiting staff were attentive, smiling and polite and the owner was happy to chat after our meal too. We we had a lovely time and left very satisfied. This place is a real gem, if you are in the area it is worth a stop.

Can’t say we found it a lovely friendly team!! Obviously a bit of an ego trip between some of the ‘more experienced’ members of staff and the younger ones who are learning but lovely. We were quite obviously gossiped about from the ‘more experienced’ staff to locals who were sat at the bar. We were described as ‘VERY LUCKY’, to have spent a lot of money on drinks here (we only ordered 3 lots of cheesy chips with our 3 rounds of drinks). Two stars for the lovely youngsters who have to put up with toxic behaviour. Good luck to them, they were handling things very well xx

It was a wonderful happenstance. We were staying less than half a mile away from the pub, I called in to take a look on the way back to Ty-Cooke (lovely little certified location for caravans) and had a gander at the menu. I started chatting with the clientele who were very friendly and spoke highly of the pie and pint night on Wednesdays. On the strength of this, I booked a table for two, and I'm so glad I did. They had a good selection of beers and wines, so the better half and I were happy. I chose from the specials board and J from the menu. My beef bourguignon was superb, as was the bacon wrapped chicken stuffed with spinach and cream cheese, even the veg was outstanding, especially the red cabbage. Sadly, I was unable to finish it all as the portions were too generous for me, and I wanted to leave space for desert. The creme brulee with a cookie was truly excellent, as was the blackberry cheesecake, just how we both liked it. Not sweet but perfectly balanced with the fruit. We will be back to this location for a stay, and the food here is a major part of that decision. We had no right to expect such exemplary food without doing our research first, and it blew us away, and it wasn't expensive either. If you are in driving distance, you must give it a try, I can guarantee you will waddle away happy.

Wonderful meal for family celebration. Could not have enjoyed more. Food was delicious and service excellent. Redcurrant sauce on the chicken was sublime.

Food was very nice and good value (pub food at it's best I would say). Friendly professional service and a nice view from the tables outside. Would certainly recommend.

Lovely food and very friendly and helpful staff. The view is stunning and on a less wet and windy day it would be great to sit outside and enjoy a drink!

On our last day in Wales, my party and I had an amazing dinner at the Horseshoe Inn. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, making sure we felt welcome with two small kids. The food was excellent - we ended up with a full three course menu as everything looked so delicious. There were several interesting vegetarian options for the non meat eaters, and I had a great lamb dish myself. I would love to come back to this nice pub again with its lovely views and warm atmosphere both to taste more of that amazing menu but also just for drinks. Thank you for a great time.

Quick visit for Sunday lunch with my wife, as ever the roast lamb dinner, washed down with a new Rose wine was absolutely to die for, lamb was succulent and tender, the veg was freshly cooked and perfect, the Yorkshire pudding added was lovely. Deserts were just as nice and the tropical bread and butter pudding was stunning Front of house run by Simon was faultless and the kitchens run by Steve turn out great food Top food and service as ever

Was looking for an eatery while staying in the area, only found this place due to a comment left on another place we were looking at. Pre-booked a table, arrived early were seated no issues. The inside is cosy and friendly. Was taken aback when the meals came, couldn’t believe the size of the plates and all 5 orders looked, smelled and tasted delicious, well impressed. Not got a single negative, if we had time to return before we leave I would be back!!

Just had fish bites and chips. Absolutely stunning!! The inside of the chips were fluffy and soft and the fish tasted so good. Will definitely call in again

Took my sales team here for lunch, 10 of us in total. The food is incredible and you certainly won’t go hungry. Everyone at the pub is friendly and can’t do enough for you. Feels like a good old fashioned boozer set in an amazing position on the Wye. Everyone only had good things to say about the place. Steak is a specialty here. No hesitation in recommending the Rose and Crown. Thanks all who looked after us that day.

We shared 6 Vegetable dishes for lunch today, plus a pud, and every mouthful was sensational. The dishes were complex and delicious, and very satisfying. It is difficult to find good vegetarian food that I can’t cook equally well at home. These dishes really were better than anything I’ve cooked, and there was plenty of choice. Plenty of choice for carnivores too. The chefs really know how to squeeze the maximum flavour out of every ingredient. The celeriac dish was my favourite , but we couldn’t decide which was our second favourite plate of deliciousness. We’ll be back.

9 of us for dinner. Just as well we had booked as the place was rammed! No surprises why! We had a fantastic meal. I think we had the best waitress I've ever experienced and the landlord and his wife/partner put in a good shift as well and obviously the chefs. What amazed me most was I could see into the kitchen and there only appeared to be 2 people in there and I didn't hear a raised word all the time I was there! Anyway top marks Hall Inn, we all loved the experience. My wife and I live in York and we will be definately coming back when we next visit.
