The best restaurants serving British food in Monmouthshire South Wales

Me and my sister called in for some lunch but unfortunately there wasn't a table available and lots had been reserved such a shame as I used to eat here alot with my mother until they started reserving tables used to love their soups snd vegi food As its a cafe I don't think places should be reserved spoiled it tbh

Booked for Sunday lunch 2 of us had lamb which was tough fed back to kitchen not much veg, a desert spoon of peas cabbage and carrots between 3 people.

Lovely friendly staff and very good value for money. A large chips was huge. Popped in to break a journey and will make a regular stopping place.

This was not what we were expecting having read the reviews. Very limited menu with average at best food. Service was willing but appeared to be in training and the bar staff didn't know what a Wine Spritzer was. Has the ownership changed recently?

Had to wait for table although booked. Waited a very long time between courses although when food came it was good. Very crowded and not a pleasant experience. Would not recommend and would not visit again

Fabulous breakfast as always, thanks First Class Cafe. I always arrive early before long journeys as it keeps me going all day, and I can avoid those awful Cafe Locals that are popping up at most stations.

Lovely Irish landlady was extremely accommodating to me & my two boys.. Service was how service used to be before the big pub chains took over everything… Food was brilliant.. Had to have the bread pudding as haven’t had it since I was a kid.. took me right back! Definitely recommend and will return 👌🏼

Delicious coffee and lovely broad lunch options, lots for vegetarians and some fab service from all the staff! They’re amazing and nothing was too much trouble! 😊

We had a great traditional Sunday dinner! The staff were lovely and able to cater for GF food. Desserts were a treat too. Thank you 😊

Wow, what an amazing Restaurant, the little plates were out of this world, so many excellent dishes served by very attentive staff. The surrounding are beautifully decorated and such a lovely ambience. Can’t wait to go back again.

Absolutely flawless meal from the first sip of the best Old Fashioned my husband's ever had (he had to have a second one just to check), the delicious bread and butter, to the exceptional lamb and the delicious puds. Lovely to be in front of the cosy wood burner on a gloomy damp day, and the service and ambiance was excellent too. No wonder they're always full. Can't recommend highly enough!

Weren't sure what time we would get there so we ordered 2 takeaway Sunday vegetarian lunches at £13 each. What we got was enough for 2 meals each! Nut loaf, veggie sausage, veggie stuffing, cauliflower cheese, 6 other veg, a tub of onion gravy each and a Yorkshire pud. The veg were not over cooked and everything tasted good. So - good food, well cooked, good portions at a bargain price! Conclusion; we'll be back on Wednesday for curry night!

Stayed overnight in “Eddie” The Olway Inn Just off A449 between Newport and Monmouth South Wales NP19 1EN A flat concrete car park at the rear, so quiet. Lovely welcome by the landlady Diane and her partner Dave. Got to meet the regulars Scooby Steve, Mechanic Steve, Michelle, Curly, and others who made us feel most welcome. The food and drinks were excellent and very reasonable, sat next to an open wood fire. Short 10 minute walk into Usk Would definitely look to visit again 10/10

Used to be excellent- no longer the case. Food was ok, the service was on a par with Basil Fawlty crossed with Julie Walters in the ‘2 Soups’ comedy sketch. We had booked a table for 4 on Saturday evening. We were taken to our table to find a different waitress had just taken 2 other people to it. They were told to move somewhere else by the guy showing us to the table. Everything was done properly with space between tables although the place was quite empty anyway. We placed our order with the waitress, who didn’t seem very competent. I questioned whether they had taken every order on the table. We checked and they said yes but then 15 minutes later came over to say they only had orders for 3 main courses. It took 3 attempts to get a wine list and 5 attempts to get some water. The waitress brought out the starters and said ‘I’m not sure what they are, but here you go’. A little training might be worthwhile. At some point a waitress brought us out 2 main courses of pork chops. We hadn’t ordered those so sent them away. The main course didn’t arrive for about an hour by which point they had apologised that they had forgotten us and offered free deserts on the house. After waiting ages for the plates to be cleared from the table and asking for the desert menu we gave up and went to the desk to pay as we thought it would take ages for them to bring it to the table. That in turn was eventful, they tried to give us the wrong bill for 2 different tables. In the end we just agreed to a bill that resembled some of the food we had eaten, paid and left. Total incompetence from start to finish, but well worth it if you want free table side entertainment.
