The Hall Inn in Monmouthshire

We meet some friends here regularly as it's half way for both of us. We all had lunch and starters off the lunch menu which is really good value for money. There is also a specials board. We had a variety of meals including fish and chips, pork and faggots. Staff are friendly.

My wife and i took our daughters in-laws for lunch as we heard good things about the pub. Really good service by the staff and nice surroundings. My wife and i had shin of beef and the in - laws had fish and chips and fishcakes, all the food was cooked perfectly and really tasty, quality food at a quality place.

Booked Sunday lunch here today not been before but came highly recommended and did not disappoint!!! The food was stunning beautiful meat and fresh vegetables the atmosphere was lovely and the service from the staff were all lovely such a nice little pub will be back to try the main menu!! Thank you!

Had to wait for table although booked. Waited a very long time between courses although when food came it was good. Very crowded and not a pleasant experience. Would not recommend and would not visit again

I can't speak highly enough of this pub/restaurant. We have eaten there a few times this year, the latest occasion being today 7/11/2024. The food was lovely, the price was very reasonable and the service was faultless. I should have asked the name of the lady who served, us as she is an absolute asset to the business and elevated a pleasant experience to a memorable one. And cheers to the chef, who produced such delicious food and the landlords for running such a terrific establishment.

Really friendly owners and staff. The lunchtime menu, two courses for £17.50, was excellent. All four or us enjoyed our meals.

9 of us for dinner. Just as well we had booked as the place was rammed! No surprises why! We had a fantastic meal. I think we had the best waitress I've ever experienced and the landlord and his wife/partner put in a good shift as well and obviously the chefs. What amazed me most was I could see into the kitchen and there only appeared to be 2 people in there and I didn't hear a raised word all the time I was there! Anyway top marks Hall Inn, we all loved the experience. My wife and I live in York and we will be definately coming back when we next visit.

Fabulous meal last night for a friends birthday celebration could not fault a thing . First visit and will definitely be back ! Highly recommend

Was recommended by a couple of pals at gym and booked for my wife's birthday. Arrived a bit early, well, we are a couple of oap's, greeted with a smile and shown to our table ( swmbo) fancied a different one and we were relocated with no bother). The food was superb, the staff courteous and professional. Not just a village pub that does meals, but in my mind ranks alongside the best restaurants in the area. well worth a visit.

Cannot fault the food and service here, greeted with a warm welcome some drinks and then shown to our table. Everything that we had was fabulous my wife had the homemade fish cakes and I had vegetable soup to start, followed by two Farmers Fillet steaks (cooked to perfection) with profiteroles for my wife and a raspberry pavlova for myself. When we arrived at 7pm the restaurant was full and we were told there may be a little wait for our food as everyone had arrived just before us! There was no long wait and the food was served swiftly and efficiently. A fab meal in a very friendly place. I would highly recommend you try this place out! Tell Stuart I sent you 😀

Took an old friend out for a quick lunch last week, and what a pleasurable experience. We were made to feel very welcome and all the staff seemed please to see us. Lunch was absolutely Superb, the Beef was outstanding and the vegetables Garden Fresh. I cant wait for another excuse for a quick Lunch out. We will be back very soon.

I have a garlic allergy, which means there are very few places I can eat without worrying. The Hall Inn you were so helpful and allergy aware, you provided me with a lovely tasty meal with no worries . Plus the wine was good and well priced Thank you , we will return.

Had a lovely roast here for New Year’s Day lunch. Meals were excellent and service was efficient, friendly and polite. Cosy atmosphere - thoroughly recommended - we plan to return.

We were a group of 10 adults and 2 children and had a mix of food from the lunchtime and main menu. Both menus have a broad spectrum of food to suit all tastes from starters, mains and desserts. For starters we had a range of soup, garlic bread, baked goats cheese and braised black pudding. For mains we had cod and chips, steak with port and stilton sauce, lasagne and salmon. Desserts we had included lemon cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding, creme brulé and apple crumble. Hot food came to the table piping hot, well presented and delicious. The cold food was appropriately cool and was equally tasty. The atmosphere inside was very welcoming and the staff friendly and helpful, making it a highly enjoyable experience for all.

The Hall inn is unassuming but fabulous. Great menu, something for everyone. absolutely delicious food and wonderful surroundings. A must try venue. 👌

Wow !! Stunning country pub and garden . Food so lovely tasty and presented well . Well worth a visit

What a fabulous experience. Started with grilled black pudding very nice. Had the farmers fillet which was huge and seasoned and cooked to perfection with sautéed potatoes, salad, onions and mushrooms. Ended with homemade bread and butter pudding with custard. My wife had deep fried Camembert to start roasted leg of lamb with veg and a sticky toffee pudding with custard, all I can say is if you haven’t been there you need to go. Very reasonable prices two three course meals and a few drinks £97. We will definitely return and recommend to all our friends. Great meal and lovely atmosphere. Couldn’t fault anything!

Booked a table for an anniversary meal with my husband. Wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff and absolutely delicious, reasonably priced food. Was recommended by a friend and I will definitely be spreading the word. All in all, 5* experience and cannot wait to come again!!

A lovely little local pub that feels like you are out in the sticks, but actually very accessible from Caerleon, Usk and the A40. Less than 10 minutes drive from Raglan Castle. Very welcoming Landlord and bar staff. I called in on the off chance for a little bit of food as I was alone on a road trip and despite being short on a member of kitchen staff, they still fitted me in for food. No exaggeration!, as a vegetarian, I struggle to find a pub or even a restaurant that actually wants to serve up good food for "the veggie" and only put their all in to the meat dishes - however this pub food was the best food I have had! Their chips were stunning and I had the Mushroom Stroganoff (which wasn't on the menu but I was offered that as an alternative to the beef version) and it was absolutely gorgeous, freshly home made and not reheated stodge! Huge decent serving with loads of veggies, rice and chips! All at a very, very decent price!!! I would highly recommend this surprising little gem of a place! I certainly will be back with my husband for that gorgeous food. DRINKS - Again, very clean and tasty beer and ales on draught also at a very affordable price! Thanks to The Hall Inn for their great hospitality.

Another culinary triumph from this fantastic team, slower than usual , but well worth the wait .(It was extremely busy to be honest) ,However, after a lengthy chat and catch up with our friends over a chilled bottle of wine ,the time didn’t really matter.We all had the most succulent steaks ever, and the service was superb. If you’re looking for fast food , don’t go there, everything cooked fresh to order so patience is a virtue. Thank once again to Stuart and the team.

What a great find. Called in, without booking, on a Thursday evening and despite being very busy the landlord managed to find space for the four of us in the restaurant. So happy that he did because the food was wonderful! All really tasty and very generous portions, so come with a good appetite. So good in fact that despite our intentions having been to try a different place the following evening we returned to this brilliant place to enjoy another fabulous meal. We will be back next time we're in the area, why wouldn't we?

Absolutely dreadful. We didn't book and just turned up. They eventually found us a small table next to a red hot radiator in June. The beer was served warm in a dirty glass. When we pointed this out we were told 'it's good enough for the locals' We weren't locals and it wasn't good enough for us. The menu was limited and when we asked if we could have 'no garlic' in the lasagne we were told no. Like being in the slaughtered lamb in 'American Werewolf in London.' The landlord had all the charm of an open grave. Nil point Avoid like the drunken uncle at a wedding

We love stopping here for a Saturday lunch date as a family, the garden is massive for the kids to run around too. It does get very busy so we always phone on the way to make sure it's ok for food. Amazing baguettes with real chips and the most amazing chocolate brownie sundaes 🥰

We returned to the hall after a lovely visit in march but this one really disappointed. The food was ok but the wait was so long. We were sat at 6.45, it took about 25 minutes to order, we had starters after 8 and mains after 9. We have two children, booked for 6.30 and expected to be out reasonably by 8.30. When we got our food we had to rush the mains as we were so late and then immediately request the bill as needed to leave. The whole evening was utterly ruined by waiting and waiting and then having to bolt it and go. And they also didnt bring one of the mains out until after the others. Such a shame, nobody apologised, nobody seemed very busy and the whole evening just became an irritating wait.

Disappointed! Sunday lunch poor value for money for what you get. Small starter portions. Lamb sunday lunch meat tasted like kebab meat. Different parts of the lamb were cooked differently from rare to burnt. Group of men sat outside swearing and being loud spoiling the...

I pre ordered my GLAMORGAN SAUSAGES and Veg gravy but I know the chef would easi!y prep this dish on the day,I just fancied it and wanted to be sure I could satisfy my taste buds..Many Pubs I have frequented even tho they advertise vegetarian Sunday Lunch they seem to think that a lovely pasta dish or cauliflower cheese will suffice..but it won't as I like many fellow non meat eaters fancy a nice Veggie & Veg Sunday Lunch out..Simple!!My partner had the Beef he said it was sublime..Now what I haven't mentioned is the starters...I had the goats cheese. stunningly delicious with a perfect salad covered in a think balsamic glaze..The other starter was garlic mushroons.Have to say did have a taste of it ..truly lovely....My summing up of this establishment...FAB Staff,very conscious of health and Well being, Friendly,Funny..What more can you say..We all need to have some light hearted fun and banter to get us through this difficult time..But we need to support our local pubs...Cos when it's gone it's gone....We very much look forward to popping back to the Hall soon....Well done guys..

From the booking via telephone right through to paying the bill the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We were visiting and booked via a recommendation and so glad we did! The food was superb and the choice go many was excellent as was the customer service - all staff were great and made our lunch/ visit extra special. We are a party of 7 and between us had 4 different options and everyone agreed the food was amazing and fabulously priced! Thank you for making our Sunday Lunch special ! Lunch at the Hall Inn was booked for us for our 25th wedding anniversary on the 21st of this month. It was our first visit and most definitely won’t be our last, from the moment we arrived the young lady that served us was happy friendly and attentive. We had starters and mains (no room for desert) I had one of the nicest steaks I have had for a long time. The service and food was second to none and we are looking forward to our return trip. Our first visit indoors since lockdown restrictions were lifted.We were presented with sanitizer on entering plus a warm,friendly welcome from the landlord and his smiley staff.The interior was immaculately clean and tables sympathetically distanced,it still felt like the cosy country pub we enjoy so much.We felt very safe as the staff were wearing facial screens and constantly sanitizing,unlike some pubs in the not so far away distance.As I said we only had a cheeky drink Sunday as we know the food is excellent.Well done Stuart &Steph for the reassurance of your customer and staff safety..

We ate here last night with our family which consisted of two young children. From the moment we walked in the door we were made to feel very welcome and everyone was so friendly! The menus have a great selection and the early bird menu in particular is fantastic value for money. Our food arrived quickly and have to say was absolutely delicious. The chicken curry is an absolute must. Lovely cosy atmosphere and very child friendly. My son actually left a bag of toys in the restaurant which we did not realise at the time however Kath from the Hall Inn took the time to hand deliver this back to us today in Monmouth which was so very kind of her! We would 100% recommend this to anyone wanting great home cooked pub food and a welcoming atmosphere! We will certainly be returning.

Visit family annually in Usk and have always had a great experience at the Hall Inn. The good is of excellent quality and the service very professional and friendly. Also the 2 course lunch is superb value.

Been to the hall on many occasions and never had a bad meal. The food is exceptional, both bar meals and Sunday lunch. Home cooked, tasty food in a cosy atmosphere. Try the farmers fillet steak it's the size of 2 for the price of one!!

Although we may have not got the memo about the 'Dad's Army' themed NYE party, we fit right in. It was a set hot buffet meal and the food was delicious, we were made to feel very welcome and although we only stayed for food it was clear to see everyone was in for a good night. We then went back for my birthday as we had heard that the steaks were amazing!! I had the 'Farmers Fillet' and it was probably one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. Food, service and wine was all top level.

We met friends here as a mid point between us all &, despite it being completely full on a Tuesday lunchtime, had an excellent Xmas lunch. The 3 courses were pre ordered, & were served correctly with no fuss by the friendly staff. The plates were hot, & the food was plentiful & tasty. We all had different things & everything was good. Good value for money too, & we weren’t rushed at all.An excellent pub - wish it was closer to us!Thank you.

First time for me to this pub. We were a party of about 20 - including an 18 month old! There were other parties there, but not once did we feel 'one of a number'. The food was great. I had a steak served with bacon and Stilton sauce.As well as starter and pudding. The food was very tasty, the steak exactly as I asked. AND really important everything was hot! Thumbs up to all the staff -we had a great time.

Warm and friendly welcome and the steaks really are the best around. In fact, all the food is excellent and very good value for money, we can hardly ever finish it. Typical country pub atmosphere and decor. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

We all ordered different starters and mains, every single meal was delicious. The food was cooked to perfection and was so tasty. We were travelling from Llandovery to Bristol and happened upon this pub for Sunday lunch, phoning ahead for a table. We found it easily, and had a very warm welcome and orders were taken efficiently.Food arrived promptly and was among one of the best Sunday lunches we’ve had; beautiful meat and great selection of veg. Asking for extra stuffing was no problem at all. This pub is a little like stepping back in time.... it’s dated in such a way that gives it an irresistible charm. We hope to be in the area and hungry again some day very soon. Thank you so much.

I chose The Hall Inn for my partner's birthday lunch. The restaurant was easy to find and full of character. The staff are friendly and attentive. The menu is extensive an my guess is that meals are cooked to order because they were able to make adjustments to one of the dishes for my partner. We both selected items from the 2 course lunch menu: deep fried brie with cranberry followed by stuffed pork with apple, leek and cream sauce for me and fishcakes followed by roast lamb for my partner. The meat was very tender and tasty and the vegetables were well cooked. Portion sizes were generous. In fact our only disappointment was that we were too full for dessert! We will certainly visit again. Consider booking, as it was (unsurprisingly) quite busy for a midweek lunchtime.

Had an unfortunate dining experience at this pub Sept 2019.on arrival 3 tables were taken we made it 4 we were told sit anywhere as were really quiet! So strange that the starters took 45-50 mins to arrive, then my prawn cocktail was a plate of tiny prawns with zero sauce plus my gluten free bread already had butter on it maybe the chef had guessed I like butter who knows? Plus the bread was icy cold! Terrible time there only saving grace was the manager or landlord who was professional and well mannered and when we said please cancel our mains as too risky he kindly said no bill was required

We went for a family meal to the Hall Inn, sat first in the bar as our table was booked for 7pm but we'd all arrived earlier than planned. We were given menus to look through whilst having a couple of drinks. The ladies came and took our orders and we were then taken through to the restaurant area as soon as our starters were ready to be served. There was plenty of choice which catered for all dietary requirements. The food and the service was fantastic and more special than the usual pub restaurant. Would definitely recommend and will visit again.

Delicious Sunday lunch. Food well presented. We had three courses and it was good value for money. Staff pleasant and attentive. Slightly disappointed with the lemon tart (runny filling rather than set but may be just my preference)

We went to the Hall Inn as we were staying nearby - we hadn’t booked and they were completely full however they very kindly managed to squeeze us in at the bar area to eat. The food is delicious, lots of choice on the menu including good vegetarian options. Highly recommend but do book in advance!

Have been going to the Hall Inn for years it is our favourite place to eat , the steaks are always tender and the rest of the menu is just as good . Stuart and his wife have been keeping the Hall for almost twenty years and you won't find a nicer couple, their staff are also first class. We will always look foreword to going to the Hall the Sunday lunch is also a winner.

The Hall Inn is a old school country pud. Set in the beautiful countryside of Gwhelog, but easy to get to, as it’s set on a main road. It’s a real local delight. The Sunday lunch provided, is a very traditional version. For example they used a classic gravy based on the veg water and meat juices. The roast potatoes were lovely, and the different meat selections were also cooked very well.

This traditional country pub is in my opinion is the best in Usk for food, and believe me l have tried them all several times, all very hit and miss.

Visiting family and friends in the UK this pub was suggested as a good place for catch up. We booked a table for ten and on arriving set up a bar tab for drinks and lunch. Relaxing pre-lunch drinks in the bar before. The menu was extensive to satisfy all our party and everyone enjoyed their meals. One of our guests took another’s order (similar beef dishes) but quickly remedied by the manager who replaced the meal. £11.95 for two courses was extremely good value considering the excellent quality of the food. Highly recommended. Hopefully we will get a chance to visit here again before going back to Australia.

This place certainly knows how to deliver! We met friends there for a delicious Sunday lunch and the place was really busy. This gave it a great atmosphere too. A warm welcome from Stuart and Steph and loads of regulars too, we will be back.

Three of us visited here following reading Trip Advisor reviews & I have to say the visit exceeded our expectations! All staff were very pleasant & attentive throughout the time that we were there. We all had the Sunday roasts which were delicious & plentiful. We had extra stuffing and gravy at no extra charge. The desserts we’re scrumptious which was the lemon cheesecake & Eton mess. We travelled 33 miles to get there and are very much looking forward to visiting again. We can’t wait to try the evening menu & will definitely be recommending to family & friends. Well done to all of you concerned in the running of this pub/restaurant ❤️

A family group met for my son's 50th birthday. We were made very welcome and the staff even allowed us to use their storage area to keep the birthday cake we had made. Food could not be faulted... it was delicious. I had the lamb shank and it melted in my mouth. The steaks were extremely generous and lovely fresh veg.

Went for lunch at the Hall Inn 3 Adults and 3 Children ages 5-10. Lunch menu is excellent and the option for small children's portions from main menu as well as typical child menu is great. The food was very good the service acceptable and the staff very friendly and accommodating.

This is a lovely country pub with reasonable lunchtime meals.would have given it a five rating if there'd been a better vegetarian choice.only two veggie items on menu.Have had both these before.Veggie tartlets notbad,veggie curry too mild.not really like a curry.Non veggie meals very nice

It serves a meal at a price, and for what you pay, your expectations can't be that high. Service is totally pleasant, quality "middle of the road" I suppose, the expections of the dinners isn't that high. Beer quality good. Go and enjoy !

Celebrated Mother's Day. The meal was excellent , with very pleasant efficient staff who made us very welcome from the minute we walked through the door. The Hall Inn has a very warm relaxing atmosphere .

Met up again with the in-laws from Newport and we're from Monmouth. Really enjoy the food here. My mother in law has parkinsons but finds the salmon here really easy to eat and she appreciates being able to serve her own quantities of veg. We have been several times now and are never disappointed. My husband is slowly working his way through the menu!! We'll be back again.
