The best restaurants serving British food in Wales

Used to such a lovely place but since it's been taken over it's gone down hill coffee was terrible food was over priced and small cakes were terrible it's a shame it's been taken over me and my family will not be returning and the lady behind the counter needs to learn customer service

Dog friendly which is great love dogs in a place and great sea views. Steve behind the bar does a fantastic job, made to feel welcome always. Quiz and bingo nights supporting local charities can’t beat it. Good is well priced and lovely Thai menu, quick service. Thank you

This is a great place for an informal meal, or a quick refreshment break. Not only is the menu imaginative and varied, but the opening hours are longer than is usual in a coffee shop type establishment. On our last visit we enjoyed a light lunch of home-made soup. We regularly stop off for a coffee but can rarely resist the appeal of the cakes. With artwork displayed on the walls inside, and information leaflets about visitor attractions, it's quite a community hub. There is a large outdoor seating area where dogs are welcome. In our experience service is usually efficient, though it can be a little slow during busy times.

Visited with family. Such sad news at the passing of a great lady. As usual however the food was great an olde worlde type, no new coffee still just the same old coffee taste great. Reading one previous review I think if you want soya and lactose free you need to visit Costa! This place caters for those who want a great meal after a walk. The scones with jam and clotted cream were nice, cheese on toast very good, coronation chicken sandwich beautiful. I have always had fond memories of a warm atmosphere and friendly staff in the past, but I was incredibly disappointed with how rude the staff was tonight. I walked in to find a lot of people sat at the bar- okay, this cannot be helped, but staff had no clue someone new had approached the bar (in fairness she was alone, but I was dressed pretty uniquely in comparison to what I can only assume is the regular clientele). I was served and sat down quietly. My partner joined a little later and I purchased his drink as he entered. First drinks went down a treat and my partner bought the second round. He tasted his Guinness and wasn’t happy. Being a barmaid myself, I tried his drink and agreed something wasn’t right. I went back to the bar to make the staff aware of this. It wasn’t a complaint- I know that when the end of the barrel is close, the drinks occasionally taste off. From previous experience, the drink is either replaced, or an alternative offered (as I mentioned before, I am also a barmaid). Instead, the staff insisted there was nothing wrong despite not tasting it themselves and, quite rudely in front of a rather full pub, pointed out that many people were drinking Guinness. I would have accepted if she’d checked that the barrel was 1. In date and 2. Wasn’t empty/near end, but she refused to leave her post and continued to essentially belittle me. I returned to my partner feeling rather small and sheepish. He didn’t finish his drink, which he’d paid nearly £5 for (this is a village pub, not flipping London) and we left shortly after. Bitterly disappointed as I was looking forward to being reunited with a warm and welcoming pub.

We stopped here for a mid afternoon snack. Thoroughly satisfied as the ice cream was incredibly tasty. Sitting outside as well with the scenic back drop, in October, awesome 👌

We often call in to the bar post-walk for refreshments. However, no tea available and the price of one black coffee, blackcurrant cordial and two packets of crisps was £10.50...this seemed at bit pricey to me so we, unfortunately, after visiting for years, won't be back.

The atmosphere was very pleasant but the waitress staff was absolutely atrocious and the attitude with them when asked for condiments and when asked for plain food due to dietary needs was greeted with a attitude problem I've eaten at many establishments and by God this was one of the worst experiences that I have ever been subjected to the food we received was delivered in drips and drabs so the kids had finished they're food before we had even had a chance of even smelling the food which was at least 5 minutes apart between each tray that they used meaning that the food was cold when we started to eat and meaning that some of the guests required to eat food before the others making us feel impolite and disappointed with the experience would highly not recommend going there on a Sunday afternoon.

The menu was not as varied as what I had seen on the Internet. The kitchen seems to work separately from the bar. We were informed of a wait, which was fine. However, others came in after us and got seved before us. Our order was wrong and so was the table opposite. Actually, getting our hands on a menu was an achievement. Food is good when you get it. Needs team building to improve customer satisfaction. Speaking on behalf of 3 tables!

Had an excellent meal here today. Sunday lunch 3 courses so so tasty. Not only was the food presented well served hot it tasted really good. The staff were spot on pleasant very professional. I’d go again happily.

A nice tasty lunch for the family in cosy surroundings with friendly service. All enjoyed the soup and toasted sandwiches. Some lovely looking cakes too though we didn’t have room on this occasion.

First impressions were that it was very quiet for a Friday evening. Not 1 person in Bar and just 3 tables in the restaurant (9 people). Menu was completely different online and we were advised it was new management. Seemed a very Basic menu. Ordered 2 Gammon, 1 Regular Burger & 1 Lamb Burger. Onion rings. Cheese garlic bread. Asked the waitresses if there was any sauce on the Lamb Burger her reply was 'No'. Advised that I could have 'No sauce whatsoever' . Her reply 'I will make sure' Food came and all looked nice. Gammon very undercooked. Went to cut Lamb burger in half to pick up and sauce absolutely oozed out. Not slightly but lots. Showed the waitress who said she was very sorry and would deal with it. Meal was back within minutes. Same burger as previously as the original cut was still there. THE CHEF HAD WIPED THE SAUCE OFF THE BURGER and put it in a fresh roll. Had to send it back as I'm not able to eat red sauce/relish ect. All food was left as the others were not even asked if there food was ok and it upset the whole table. Asked to speak to the manager and was advised he was busy. When we asked for the bill and advised we wouldn't be paying for the burger he appeared. Unfortunately he couldn't' see what was wrong with the situation. Didn't understand that wiping the sauce off was an issue and could have made me very Ill. Total bill £69.

Recently refurbished and Rebranded as "Fire & Fork" promising a " a traditional American barbecue experience". No Bread available before Starters. - Pork Burnt Ends - Mixture of under and over cooked chunks of pork in a sickly sweet, slightly spicy smoked sauce. Need something acidic to cut through all the fat came with "Texas "Toast", Stale slice of bloomer spread with an unidentifiable substance. Beef Cigars - Lovely shredded beef in a crispy pancake style roll with a rich, smoked Garlic Mayo. Mains - XL Short Ribs not available so both ordered the 10 Hour Smoked Brisket. Served as described on menu. No discernable smoked crust or flavour to the Brisket. No mustard available at this restaurant. No Napkins provided, asked twice, got some from another table. we dealt with our cutlery shortage similarly. No water provided when requested. Inexperience of the staff evident but more than made up for by their enthusiasm and wish to please. Two Starters, Two Mains, Three pints and a Short / Mixer - £92. Option to add tip to card payment. Cash tip direct to server. This place has lots of potential but needs to overcome teething problems before one will consider a return
