Used to such a lovely place but since it's been taken over it's gone down hill coffee was terrible food was over priced and small cakes were terrible it's a shame it's been taken over me and my family will not be returning and the lady behind the counter needs to learn customer service

We wanted a quick bite before visiting the castle, we wouldn’t recommend here. The cheese sandwhich was £7.50, but didn’t come with any salad or crisps or anything. Just a sandwich on a plate. It also wasn’t even buttered. My partner had the salmon bagel it was fine. The staff were really lovely, and the location is nice, but the food was pricey and just ok.

After exploring Pembroke it was time for a drink/cake and there is nowhere better than sitting at the Cornstore Cafe next to the river with a view over to Pembroke Castle. Order at the counter, take a seat and the staff bring your drink/food to you.

We stopped in this lovely place as a family of 5, we sat inside the place itself was nice with a beautiful view… unfortunately this was let down by the rude lady behind the till who snatched the bottle out my hand to open it! we ordered 3 ham and cheese paninis, one I asked if I could have the ham on the side and the expression on her face made me feel as if I was asking for the world! We also a kids sandwich box… 2 soft drinks and a coffee which came to just over £33! When the food came out the server bellowed my name out ( we was in a room with 3 other tables) to which already had food on them! The paninis came in a polystyrene box despite us being sat inside! the bread was stale and cold that not even the cheese in them were melted! I would avoid this place unless you want to be ripped off, shouted at and served below parr food at a high cost! Such a shame as the location was perfect!

After a walk along the Pembroke High Street the Corn Store, just on the river below the castle, seemed most promising of all else we saw. We were not disappointed. We enjoyed a selection of freshly made rolls, home made cakes plus drinks. Service was fast and efficient. Our only gripe: they need to emphasise it is counter service.

We are local and used to love the Corn Store. It is a fabulous location; opposite the castle and by the water, but we were extremely disappointed. We arrived at 3.30pm and were told that we could ony have takeaway drinks ( but we could sit outside). The staff were cleaning the display cabinets which had been cleared of all the cakes. I spotted some cakes on the back counter and asked if I could buy one. As we were having our tea and cake, the two staff members were stacking the chairs and putting the rubbish out, so not exactly a relaxing experience.. Four people went in after us and two came out and walked off. Ths staff were very polite and friendly, but the music they were playing was loud and not relaxing and calm. One of them called me love, which I hate! The Corn Store used to have lovely food and was always busy, but sadly this is not the case anymore.

As a local to Pembroke this used to be one of the nicer cafes for soup and sandwich. Since being taken over last year, the menu is limited, the staff are stretched and the manager is rude! A lot of huffing & not a nice attitude when talking to other staff. Asked for a slice of toast for the baby to be told they don’t offer that any more, despite having a toaster and bread. Very expensive for what you get. Either a Brie and ham croissant, a bagel or a breakfast wrap. Credit however to the younger staff members who are polite and friendly & really do their best.

Visited today for lunch and was very disappointed. Ordered a panini, and 3 breakfast sandwiches, all of which were £8 plus each. All items were admittedly tasty, but were served on a plate completely alone with not even a sprinkle of garnish. No kid friendly options on the menu, so my daughter ended up with a crossiont. Ordered a milkshake which was £3.40, and expected more than a small glass of milk with a dash of crusha milkshake mix If I'm honest! The worst thing was, there were 4 adults eating and there was at LEAST a 10 minute wait between the first sandwich being served to the last. By the time the last sandwich was served everyone else had pretty much finished eating. Certainly wouldn't reccomend.

Visited today as we always do when in Pembrokeshire. The quality and choice of cakes was dire. This is so disappointing as it has always been the highlight of a trip to Pembroke. The only sweet treat I even remotely like the look of was a warm croissant with jam and butter. All the others were tiny, sickly looking, with too much butter cream or gluten free. When the croissant arrived it was red hot and ruined by being microwaved for 30 seconds as we later found out. Once it had cooled enough to spread with the jam and butter it was nothing like any croissant I have ever eaten. The supervisor admitted she knew it had been microwaved for 30 seconds but she had allowed it to be served anyway. She did offer an alternative but as there was nothing else we liked the look of we declined and left and now have no intention of returning. If this is typical of the standard of the new management this once splendid cafe will not survive for long.

Such a shame as of you scroll through previous reviews I was a big fan of this place and so excited to see what the new owners would do. The opening days and hours have been extended and dogs are now allowed inside which is a great plus for accessibility. However, the choice and quality of the food has really gone down. For instance, just before Christmas my mam and I took my aunt in at lunchtime. Very little available off the menu and nothing other than cake for coeliac. We sat and watched my elderly aunt struggle to eat a microwaved to death soggy pasty - so soggy we couldn't cut it so had to tear if off for her! I went in again today - still no real options for coeliac other than cake. Such a shame when this place used to do the most delicious soups and sandwiches - nothing was too much trouble. Hope the new owners take note and see what they can do to get back to the past high quality of choice and food they used to offer - get rid of the microwave please.

Popped in following shopping in Cornstore furniture/homeware shop above the café (which is fantastic), it’s a shame the café isn’t. I completely understand complications that arise with covid, and we hadn’t booked, but the reaction of the young lady in charge was dismissive and rude. We would have liked a bite to eat for lunch & we were reluctantly offered a table, but to be frank because of her rude approach we immediately changed our minds and opted for a takeaway coffee & tea instead. Pembrokeshire has been very busy all week because of 1/2 term, so maybe she was a bit tired, but regardless of the reason, it’s not a good idea to be so dismissive of customers. It’s been a hard year for many, no need to make it harder.

Very disappointing. Having grown up in Pembroke I was excited to return to the corn store for lunch. I appreciate there are a lot of changes needed to be covid compliant but they’ve taken it to the extreme. Not delivering food to the table, having a ridiculously small menu and everything in disposable dishes is very wasteful. Such a shame, won’t be returning in a hurry.

Absolutely awful experience. Came to Pembroke for a walk around the Millpool and Castle. It was time for refreshments and a sit down. I was really looking forward to some coffee and leek and potato soup. Now ... I am unable to wear a mask and I clearly wear a sunflower lanyard. Out of courtesy I lift to ensure it’s view on entrance to any business. I was greeted by a man so rude and unwelcoming ... I sanitised my hands As did my husband ... looked for the track and trace ... or somewhere to leave my details. The man snarled at me and asked me to provide proof of my disability... I was horrified how rude and intrusive he was ... I was about to show him ... as I have all evidence on my phone ... I was so embarrassed when my wits returned and I said yes I have my evidence ... I’d be happy to show it to a police officer or someone else in authority ... buy my lanyard should be enough ... my husband and I retreated out of the cafe ... and the ‘gentleman’ muttered some retort behind us. He was vile. He needs to brush up on what he is allowed to do and what would be deemed as discrimination when dealing with potential customers. The experience spoiled my afternoon in Pembroke to be honest. There was a distinct lacking of knowledge regarding equality and diversity ... along with simple customer services. I have since messaged the business to request their complaints procedure... surprise... surprise... they’ve not got back to me. Avoid at all costs I’d say ... plenty of other places to get coffee and cake from.

Visited The Cornstore on a number of occasions pre-covid and just this week. We have never been disappointed, staff are friendly and very helpful. The food and cakes are always delicious and freshly made. They have put excellent measures in place to follow covid guidelines which is reassuring. Outdoor seating right beside the river with a beautiful view of the castle. Very organised for Covid measures. Order inside and give your name and the staff bring out the food/drink, all wearing masks. We ordered two tuna paninis and coffees. The paninis were excellent. Dark bread with real flavour, toasted to perfection, crisp but not rock hard and the filling was heated perfectly. Lovely salad on the plate too. Coffee was delicious too. On a sunny day this was a perfect place to have lunch. Dont understand other reviews complaining about staff, they tried very hard to be helpful but still stick to Covid rules. Its all about keeping people safe. For those who dont like that they are following government rules, suggest they stay at home and have a takeaway instead.

We were looking for a nice cafein Pembroke as our first choice the drifters cafe was closed which had great reviews and looked fab. All the outside seats were take so there was an I door space, it said you had to sanitise your hands first so we did, little did we realise they mean in the other area across the road. We sat down, my husband went to order food across the road and was barked by a guy inside that we shouldn't have sat down before we'd sanitised our hands. We didn't even get a chance to explain we had already done this. This is no way to treat your customers, and judging by other negative reviews we are not the only ones to receive this disposable treatment. Tip for them, don't run a cafe if you don't like people! The menu was hardly inspiring and frankly apart from the castle view we wouldn't have bothered. They did us a favour as there is a fab sandwich shop on the high street that does lovely sandwiches and baguettes with your choice of filling made there and then, it was a sunny day so we ate them on the picnic tables overlooking the castle and moat. We certainly won't be back to the cornstore and will be crossing this one of the list in our accomodation with a description of our treatment. The owner should be ashamed, retrain your staff! We all care about not letting the Corona virus spread and know of people lost to this awful virus but please, acting as the Corona Gestapo isn't helping. Clearly common decency went out the window with these people. Hope they enjoyed wiping tje seats we sat on after, I highly suspect they didn't bother, all talk!

A quick stop in Pembroke gave us time to pop into the Cornstore. This riverside cafe was recommended by a local lady. It looked rustic and welcoming. But we discovered looks are deciveing. With the lack of tourists, unsettled weather and the inconsiderate COVID 19 the frosty reception we were given was colder than the good old British weather. Business is clearly not at the forefront of the staff's minds, lack of trade clearly promoted the lack of hospitality. A grumpy female who may have been the owner spoke to us as if we were naughty five year olds. The COVID19 house rules were given in a manner that can only be described as shameful. Table service was expected, but pay 1st, collect your food yourself and retreat for cover wasn't. No glasses (despite glasses in full view) for the can of coke, paper cup despite eating inside but the tuna melt panini's were lovely unfortunately the wooden cutlery wasn't. Reading the previous reviews our sentiments are the same as other customers. Definitely room for hospitality training.

We popped into the Cornstore for a quick coffee. The Covid-19 safety measures were very good. We were asked for our details for T&T on arrival, and were taken to a table and told how long we could sit for, but if it remained quiet then we could have it for longer. The tables were also nicely spread out, with discrete glass partitions between them, meaning it was safe. The drinks were made and then placed on a central table for us to collect, making it contact-free. The drinks were freshly made and delicious, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Thank you, and we will definitely be visiting again.

A very strange place. There was a hut by the lake with a few people sitting inside. As we arrived the door was firmly shut and we were told we didn't get coffee there. We went through a main door and after we had called out a grumpy man appeared and took our order, we couldn't go in the large room we had to have our coffee outside, we unstacked chairs and took them to a table. It started to rain, our coffees and cake arrived, as we still couldn't go inside we took the tepid coffees and cake and went back to the car.Not an experience I would recommend though the flapjack was delicious.

We (6) stopped for cake and coffee. The cakes arrived and my wife went to chase the coffees and collected herself. They came out 3 black and one white; we ordered 3 white, one black. I went in to the doorway to be shouted at by the man behind the desk that I wasn’t allowed in. I explained we needed milk, he comes out with 4 UHT minis and thrust them at me. I said we’d like real milk, he then refused and said he could decant into a cup but he’d have to charge us for it. At this point I pointed out they had made a mistake and sent the wrong drinks. He then said “I think maybe you need to be a little clearer when you order” and walked off. I went back in after 4 minutes to ask where the milk was and he said, I’ve brought it out once and won’t be again, I then said you need to refund me, at which point he got in my face and said no! I went outside collected my cups and poured the milk myself from his fridge whilst he was screaming at me about not being sanitised. I walked out with a parting go F yourself. I’ve never encountered anyone like him before, I’m still stunned a week on. I truly hope he goes out of business. PS - the cakes were nice.

Who closes this early when they have lots of potential customers. If the clearing away was designed 2 make us hurry up then sorry it didn't work but what did work was the fact we won't return. Food good and served quickly. About 10 mins before finishing, 40 mins after arriving, we were told by a member of staff that we shouldn't have moved our table outside and it was needed for a booked party... And we would have to move or leave. Given that we had been served and highchairs brought..and no mention made of this and that the tone was very accusatory... Really very rude! Eventually after speaking at length with manager some sort of half apology received. But really, don't accuse customers of something they didn't do and if you wanted to move a table ask very nicely first! And once you've been shown to be wrong...apologise immediately and profusely!

The Cornstore seems popular and there were a number of other customers there but at the same time it wasn't overly full and crowded. I'll be back when next in Pembroke!

Amazing selection of homemade cakes. Not for those on a diet! Really fresh homemade lunches. I would recommend the cheese toasties. Excellent coffee. Great place to sit outside with views of the castle.

Stopped in here for latte, hot chocolate and cappuccino. Just over £8, and all made perfectly. Add to that sitting outside in the sunshine looking at Pembroke Castle, who could want more.

shopped out in Pembroke; needed sustenance and a leisurely half hour. Cornstore is an interesting place and has some quality, if expensive, home furnishings for sale upstairs. the café is pleasant enough, but to sit outside in the sun, watch the canoers pottering around on the river, and enjoy the excellent view of the castle, was restorative in itself; so, together with the efficient, friendly service and very good fare, I left a much happier chap!

The best pea and watercress soup I have ever eaten. Just delicious. Huge bowl. Funny quirky home made bun to go with it. Will be back.

We popped into the Cornstore for a coffee (and to shelter from the rain). Yes, as other reviewers have said, it is a bit dark inside but that's due to the type of building! A lovely friendly atmosphere and highly recommended.

Went here with husband and 5 year old daughter. Lots of choice of food i.e. Sandwiches, toasted sandwiches and panni's plus more. Service was good and good tasty. Coffee shop is dark but I think that adds to the character plus you could sit outside. We enjoyed

We stopped here on a tour. I didn't fancy the castle but really want some nice tea and cake. What one do when one can't find a good place for cake? TripAdvisor, of course! Sadly, the tea are all pukka teas if they are your thing. The desserts are nothing to brag about. Same thing you can get in hospital shop run by old ladies. The view isn't bad if you're lucky with the weather. Unfortunately I wasn't.

Went for lunch yesterday, great selection on the menu and the daily specials board. My mum had a panini, with salad garnish and loved it, I had a ham salad and loved it and my husband had lasagne and salad and loved that too. Lovely choice of cakes as well.

Fabulous views of Pembroke Castle. The cafe is very dark and not particularly comfortable. I ordered a pot of tea, a cappuccino and a toasted tea cake which we waited over half an hour for. It was expensive and rather unwelcoming. The staff made no real effort and I overheard one staff member being quite rude to an older couple. Disappointing.

Recommended for good coffee. Small menu, some nice specials but need to get their act together on catering for tourists....1pm and already run out of specials on a drizzly day with lots of tourists looking for lunch. Shame.

Swung by off the cuff. Had a look in the store that is about this coffee shop. Ordered a panini for myself and a jacket potato for my aunt. We were both impressed and had a nice little choice for lunch and plenty of options to drink (not alcohol!!). A tasty little lunch in a small coffee shop under a shop. Good stuff!!

Very nice setting by the river overlooking the castle. Hot and strong coffee with Welsh cakes just hit the spot. This is also a craft centre so good for looking around for gifts.

Visited for lunch with friends, reasonably quick service. Good food with nice views over the mill pond from the indoor seating area opposite the main shop. I had a panini with salad, delicious and side salad was better than you would get at most places. Cakes looked delicious but I was too full to try one. Will definitely visit again.

Lovely little cafe/ shop this. Beautiful location and good food. Light lunch and / or an indulgent cake, well worth a visit. If food isn't the order of the day they have a few floors of furniture, accessories for yourself or your home. Hand crafted and good quality pieces, you are sure to find something to your taste.

Not too much of a choice for breakfast offered. Staff seemed a big vague about what they could do, or how much it cost. Coffee was lovely, and the range of fresh cakes. Very pleasant atmosphere to spend an hour out of the wind and rain.

We live in the village. Keen to support local business ... but sorry... Awful. The food was awful! Dry and old. They did offer an alternative but it was SO awful that I was happy to leave. Never again.

Went for lunch at this venue yesterday. Don't order the garlic mushroom starter as it's a rip off. Got one puny slice of bread with what would probably equate to about two button mushrooms and creamy sauce, although it tasted great, come on £7.95 for this. Previously had more value for money with the previous owners. The small plate ham & egg was very good though and the service off Gleisny was good as always.

Didn’t disappoint. Lovely meals all served with humongous Yorkshire puds! Lashings of gravy and the cheesy leek dish was the best!
