The Ynysmeudwy Arms in Neath Port Talbot

First impressions were that it was very quiet for a Friday evening. Not 1 person in Bar and just 3 tables in the restaurant (9 people). Menu was completely different online and we were advised it was new management. Seemed a very Basic menu. Ordered 2 Gammon, 1 Regular Burger & 1 Lamb Burger. Onion rings. Cheese garlic bread. Asked the waitresses if there was any sauce on the Lamb Burger her reply was 'No'. Advised that I could have 'No sauce whatsoever' . Her reply 'I will make sure' Food came and all looked nice. Gammon very undercooked. Went to cut Lamb burger in half to pick up and sauce absolutely oozed out. Not slightly but lots. Showed the waitress who said she was very sorry and would deal with it. Meal was back within minutes. Same burger as previously as the original cut was still there. THE CHEF HAD WIPED THE SAUCE OFF THE BURGER and put it in a fresh roll. Had to send it back as I'm not able to eat red sauce/relish ect. All food was left as the others were not even asked if there food was ok and it upset the whole table. Asked to speak to the manager and was advised he was busy. When we asked for the bill and advised we wouldn't be paying for the burger he appeared. Unfortunately he couldn't' see what was wrong with the situation. Didn't understand that wiping the sauce off was an issue and could have made me very Ill. Total bill £69.

We only intended stopping for a drink but decided to have lunch. Absolutely the best battered fish we have had for years. Portion was large everything was perfectly cooked. Excellent service, staff were friendly and helpful.

Early evening meal here as a family of seven. Two of us had starters and then we didnt have to wait long at all for our mains. Food was very tasty 😋 and I would recommend the lasagne which had plenty of cheese on top and is most definitely in a bottomless dish 😂 as there was loads in it

I stayed overnight on Saturday whilst in the area on business and I was delighted with everything. The booking process the owners were very helpful and everyone was friendly and accommodating. I had an evening meal which was very nice indeed as was breakfast. My bedroom was clean and very comfortable and I couldn't not default it. All in all I had a lovely time and I will have no hesitation returning and staying with them again. Highly recommended.

If you are not very mobile or have COPD not the best place to choose as the stairs to the bedrooms are extremely stèep. We also choose the king size bedroom which has a very low bed and was difficult for us to get out of. In all fairness the landlady offered to move us but we were only staying one night and had already used the shower Place was spotless and great breakfast. Food is totally acceptable pub grub. Staff were lovely , couldnt do enough to help us.

Just visited the Ynysmeadwy Arms for the first time in a long time. What a treat, a lot of thought has gone into the precautions for the spread of Covid-19 and the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely be returning.

1st family meal out since lockdown eased, and won't be the last here. Very attentive service, Scott (owner) was amazing, food was outstanding. Offered table in or out, chose in, and couldn't fault it.

Had a lovely overnight staycation. Excellent value for money, good food and location ideal for walks. I have to mention Janette the house keeper who does a fantastic job of keeping the pub and hotel rooms clean. It was absolutely spotless. Would definitely recommend.

Last minute booking and we’re seated straight away, easy to park and one way system in place. Halloumi fries and carbonara main were both lovely and staff friendly. We will definitely be back x

Booked here at short notice yesterday as wanted somewhere where our boys could play whilst having a meal. Food was really nice and the service was excellent! Boys really enjoyed the park area! Will be visiting again!! 👍

We was advised to book here a few hours in advance,it was a pleasant pub,we was disappointed there was only 2 staff ,we did enjoy our meal .

Decided to go here as I was having difficulty booking a table due to Help Out, Eat Out! Unfortunately this restaurant didn’t do it and did advise me when I rung them to book a table, disappointed but did see other customers had the same issues. I ordered the 16oz steak cooked rare with sweet potato fries. The garlic cheese bread was tasty. Hoping there be more Gower Brewery beers there though!

Got back today from a 2 night stay, from the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome, not only by all the staff but all the locals too, we felt very relaxed it was like home from home, the room was big, clean and comfy, nothing atall was to much bother for them. We had a few drinks on the Saturday evening with the new owners and locals and thoroughly enjoyed it! We booked the Sunday lunch when we checked in as we had seen how popular it was, and OMG it did not disapoint it was amazing and plenty of it! We also had a full English breakfast before checking out this morning, and that fantastic too, Will we return? Definitely, infact we are going back first weekend in September and also bringing friends, very well done to Lucy and Scott! We wish you well with your new venture, see you in a few weeks.

We’ve eaten here many times and ate here this evening and whilst the food was lovely and the service was very good we won’t be returning. WW specifically went this evening to support a local business and to take advantage of the government’s ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme. The Ynysmeudwy Arms are listed as being one of the local restaurants taken part in the scheme so they have obviously applied/registered to be part of it...but when the bill arrived it was full price and when I queried it with the waitress I was told that they are on there by mistake. Two things about this 1. As I’ve mentioned before you have to apply to be a part of the scheme which The Ynysmeudwy Arms MUST have done otherwise they wouldn’t be in the list, and 2. The very least they should do is make you aware that they are not honouring the discount BEFORE you order or have signs up so you are aware of it...failing to do so is incredibly unfair and leaves a very bad taste in your mouth. For those that think that we, the customer, should have checked that The Ysnymeudwy Arms are taking part in the scheme BEFORE ordering I say this...if you are on the list then you’ve applied to be so and should therefore honour the discount. Very poor form from The Ynysmeudwy Arms. When I returned home I read this on their Facebook page “I would like to apologise for the confusion regarding the eat out government initiative, unfortunately as a new business we have been unable to take part and have requested numerous times to be removed from the list. Again we apologise for the inconvenience caused” If this business is under new ownership/management then I would suggest that you’d do well to keep your custom by being upfront and honest. Apologising AFTER the event is simply not good enough.

Up in Wales for our joint Birthday Celebrations. Great Value DB&B offer for here on well known web site. Did our TA due diligence and booked. Very happy, genuine lovely South Wales local. Spotlessly clean, lovely light modern room, good menu and Full Welsh cooked to order for Breakfast. Staff and locals lovely and friendly, highly recommended !

The main part of the meal, one had a huge gammon, egg and pineapple and I had chicken with a garlic mushroom sauce. The chips were over cooked and rock hard. It was difficult to pick them up with a fork.The staff were lovely and helpful. They wore protective masks and kept a 2m distance. It felt very safe there.

Brilliant food excellent service friendly staff and dog friendly with a great beer garden and play area for the kids ( although it wasn't open today due to restrictions) all health and safety in place will be back to see the new landlord and landlady fantastic job guys well done

very disapointed 6 meals bought only one any good fish and chips .lasagne very poor stake awful it will be a while before we return but i will say we have been before and it was very acceptable gone down hill a bit a shame

Went there for a meal with my wife last Saturday as we were at a loose end and fancied going out for a spin and lunch. We've been here many times over the last couple of years and it has been fantastic every time, even recommended to friends who don't live local to make the effort to travel here to eat. What a huge disappointment, shockingly poor quality. After speaking to colleagues who live local to the restaurant, about the poor quality, they both said that they had been there recently and would not be going back any time soon. I wish I had spoken to them sooner! We payed top dollar for absolute garbage... What you'd expect from a "2 for £10" pub. We 100% will not be going back there until someone tells me their food has drastically improved, or the current chef moves on

We stumbled upon this place while staying in a local B&B. When we reading some of the bad reviews we almost changed our minds about eating here. However we are so glad we didn't.The staff are great so friendly and welcoming and assured us my fussy eating ways would not be a problem and its true they weren't. Think this is the first time I have managed to order a Burger the way I like it and managed to get exactly what I ordered. the prices where so cheap. Where else can you sit in a pub and order a Blue Cheese and Bacon Burger for less than £11. My partner had the Chicken skewers and they were also delicious.I had a glass of the house red and was offered a choice between a Shiraz and a something else I chose the Shiraz and it was very nice. My partner had the local Ale Gower Gold, He recommends it if you are a pale ale drinker.Ignore the few bad reviews and make the trip out to try it. it really is a great little find and we will return

Had a lovely dinner here today. I had prawn cocktail to start and lamb for main. My mate had carrot and corrainder soup and beef for main. The soup wasn't fantastic but my prawn starter was lovely. Lots of veg with the dinner, beautifully cooked meat and the staff were lovely. Gravy was a bit thin but it tasted nice. Will go back

Waited 30 minutes to be served, and another 75 minutes for the food to arrive - even though restaurant wasn’t busy at all.On top this the “sharer platter” was not for sharing at all. £20 for a dish that was barely enough for one person. The dishes on the platter were also not the ones that were ordered.Will not be returning.

Drinks took ages to come out, garlic bread was over cooked and hard, tartare sauce was an odd flavour and should have come out with food but had to ask and then took 10 mins, service was good but very slow as only one girl doing bar and waitresing bless her, lack of presentation, lasagne was very small portion, no mushy peas with fish even though advertised.

This is a pleasant pub eatery with a big uncluttered bar and plenty of wide spaced tables. The food is good pub grub, and all the standards are on offer. For lunch you've got the choice of the lunch menu or the full menu, both good. Staff all pleasant and attentive. There is a good sized car park. If you're of a hiking bent there are plenty of local walks, the old Swansea Canal runs alongside the pub which has a good even towpath.

Went hear with my son and his family .children eat free before 5 o’clock was a great idea .the food was amazing we all loved our food .service was very good and friendly .

A nice Sunday lunch, well presented and tasted beautiful. Very busy which reflected in the service, not to the staffs fault. Well priced.

Your warm welcome and efficiency were much appreciated. The French Ramblers were most complimentary about the quality of the dishes provided. Hope to visit you again soon.

Visited here today with my partner and my 3 year old son. We had Brie wedges and garlic mushrooms for starters both of which were amazing and then we had a Sunday lunch each, it was the best we have had anywhere in years! Everything on the lunch was beautiful. My son had sausage and chips children’s meal which he really enjoyed, excellent portion sizes and we couldn’t stop stealing some of his chips they were delicious. Will definitely be back! Oh and the pub and the toilets were spotlessly clean!

My wife, my mother, my 7yr daughter and I dined here on the evening of Saturday 21st September. This pub has been recommended to us and it did not disappoint. My wife had the special of seafood tacos and the portion was very generous and the meal itself was very tasty. I had the homemade steak and Gower ale pie with sautéed potatoes and veg and it was the best tasting pie I’ve ever eaten (I’m salivating just writing this review!). The kids meatballs and spaghetti was enjoyed by my daughter and portion size was generous too. We had two sticky toffee puddings for dessert and initially they were served cold, but this was dealt with without any fuss and the replacement was well worth the wait. The bill was under £70 inc. drinks which we thought was terrific value.

Called at the pub on a busy sunny Thursday evening with our friends. We hadn't booked but managed to get a table.

We were travelling in that area and accidentally found this pub. Fish and chips and halloumi in butter were lovely, all fresh, and butter was very special. Nice playground outside for kids. A young lady who was serving us was very friendly.

Had a lovely meal here for my birthday. Ordered lasagne and it was very tasty. Great portion sizes, couldn’t finish it all. Had a great time!

Arrived after making a booking for 3 people and two highchairs to find no table was reserved for us and none were available to fit 2 highchairs. A couple had to leave in order for us to have a table that was suitable.

We visited this lovely pub this week with family. The food was delicious and served promptly. All of the staff were welcoming too. Will definitely visit again. A great find in the welsh valleys.

We visited here on Tuesday evening for a birthday meal. There was 16 of us & we all enjoyed the evening. The service was excellent and our food was served promptly. Some had a starter and main but all food was delicious! No one had a single complaint. I had the steak and it was cooked exactly how I like medium/rare was served with vine tomatoes, peas and I picked mash as my potato. Great choice & amazing value for money. Would highly recommend a visit ! Also my brother in law had a burger looked amazing also.. can’t wait to visit again :) thanks for a great evening all!

Overall the room and location are great, the price would be excellent if all the amenities were available. The “free WiFi” doesn’t work and the staff doesn’t seem to be overly concerned; I’m traveling in conjunction with a business trip so WiFi is always part of my travel requirements. Im uncertain of the timing for the continental breakfast, nobody told me on check-in and it wasn’t available at 6:30, 7, or 7:30 am - I had to leave at 7:45 to get my day started.

We were invited here for a fabulous evening with very good friends . Approximately 20 of us , normally with a big group things can go a tad pear shaped . Not here it was perfect from start to finish our meals were fantastic nicest steak I have had in a long time . Top night also the landlady was kind enough to take a few of us for a tour of her stunning rooms upstairs , I would stay there at a drop of a hat . Down sides to this pub it’s not my local . Safe to say I loved it . Xx

This was the 5th time we had been to the Ynysmeudwy Arms for lunch, and it will be the last.

Visited overnight to see my son and family who live a couple of miles away. We normally stay in Swansea, but as we only had a couple of hours to spend with the family that evening, decided not to battle with the city traffic and stay nearer to my son.

We booked a table for 7 ppl all of us wanting Sunday lunch. We all choose our preferred meat I had roast lamb every one else had beef. Our food arrived I had two slices of lamb with was over cooked and tasteless one roast potato that had clearly been cooked in a fryer, one Yorkshire pudding two parsnips and a stuffing ball. All the beef meals had the same. There was one oval dish with cabbage sweed and carrots between us all, I don't eat vegetables and I waited to see if there were anymore potatoes coming as we all only had one each, nobody came so I called a girl and asked if there were more potatoes coming or if there was mash? She replied we don't have mash but I will go ask for potatoes for You! I waited and she never came back! Now the Sunday dinner was £9.95 it wasn't worth it at all!

Excellent food. Huge portions. The garlic bread with Stilton was delicious. Friendly staff. Attentive. The restaurant is big and roomy. There is an outside seating area and play ground for children. We'll recommend it and will come again!

cracking lunch for under a tenner real home made chips please don't revert to frozen real home made chips are few and far between now friendly atmosphere good pint you cant fault it in my opinion we will be back

My partner and I stayed here for two nights during a visit to the area for a wedding. The food was fantastic, service really good and friendly, upstairs the rooms were fantastic for a pub and the decoration, furniture was great! Anyone visiting the area should stay, you won't be disappointed.

The food quality was fine and we were made to feel welcome but the overall experience was very disappointing. We were a group of 5 adults. Food arrived after a good wait but we thought ok if it’s being cooked fresh that’s fine. One meal arrived badly burnt. It was changed without any quibble but should not have been brought to the table in the first place. It also meant we’d almost finished our meal by the time the re-placement meal was brought we’d finished. To be fair they didn’t charge for the meal but the experience was blighted. Our friends gave the benefit of the doubt and revisited with a family member 2 weeks later but unfortunately their experience was worse.

Had a lovely meal here with 2 adults and 3 kids,great quality meals with the added bonus of a lovely play garden for the children,highly recommend this place

Lunch at the Arms today Friday 15th June, excellent value. piping hot and very tasty 2 course meals for under £10 highly recommended with warm welcome by all staff

First time to visit and certainty won't be our last, the food was outstanding and the portions large, didn't have room for a dessert so can't comment on the choice but the menu is huge with plenty of choice. I'd normally go for a steak but there was no sirloin or fillet on the menu unfortunately so I opted for the firecracker burger, my husband had the goliath burger and my daughter had the ribs and rump. All meals were delicious and service was good ! looking forward to our next visit

The staff are wonderful, our waitress Fran was attentive and so pleasant! Food was tasty, hot and fresh. Great for children too (although we didn’t visit with children), sweet little play area outside.

Wow, what a stunning meal, I had surf and turf, stunning steak, well seasoned, perfectly cooked and melt in the mouth, homemade tartare sauce, homemade onion rings, sweet potato fries, couldn’t be better!! My partners gammon was thick cut which you don’t see often these days! she thoroughly enjoyed too, we’ll definitely be back!!

We were a large party of around 20 so we're spread out across three tables. The pub is large inside with a large car park and good sized children's play area outside.

Live just around the corner from this pub and its always our go to place. Brilliant variety of foods and always freshly cooked. Can take a little longer for food to come but its worth it as its always piping hot and you can tell the dishes have been freshly cooked. Been here several times now and have never been disappointed.

Went here today with my friend after a long walk along the canal in the snow. Our food was absolutely amazing. Really tasty and obviously homemade. The staff were really friendly and kind. The place is lovely and warm on a cold day. We really enjoyed our visit and will return. Thank you. Ps the chocolate orange cake is awesome. A must try :)

We went for Sunday lunch as a family. The service was first class. The food was superb, the meat cooked to perfection. Ample fresh vegetables, and lovely gravy. Would highly recomend.

My husband had lamb shank in wine sauce and I had cod and chips. We were both really happy with the food,the service, the drinks and the nice welcome we had. Very pleasant all-round and we can honestly recommend it.

We waited for approximately 50 minutes for our food and the staff were extremely rude. We tried to talk to the staff but we were ignored. It was a birthday celebration and the way we were spoken to and treated was a big let down. We were first time visitors and this one occasion has last a left a lasting impression, an impression which will be placed on Trip advisor and other review sites. The food quality was average but the bill for six people came to £63.90 which is a fair price but the service was extremely disappointing

Fuimos a este pub para un buen domingo, tuvimos una cena maravillosa pero el servidor que teníamos era horrible, su actitud era asquerosa. Steph, creo que su nombre era ella como grosero cuando le preguntamos acerca de los artículos en el menú y bebidas extra cuando piden que no parecía impresionado. No sólo que ella estaba discutiendo con otros miembros del personal en frente de clientes, ir por la comida sin duda no estancia para el personal, vergüenza.

Great family orientated pub with good selection on the menu and behind the bar! Food is of a good standard and really enjoyable and their more than willing to tweek your order to suit, which you don't always get with the 'chain's.Brilliant little play area for kids for sunnier days and lots of outside tables for adults to sit back, enjoy a vino while they play!! We Love visiting!

My first time at this pub with work colleagues. We ordered from the light bite menu and the food arrived fresh and plentiful. The ambience and service was faultless too. Will definitely be returning

Lovely food my partner ordered the gammon and I ordered the steak as you can see by the photos there were big portions and each reasonably priced so can't complain, we were also given a portion of chips in a separate bowl as they did not fit on our plate, will be returning soon.

Food was mediocre at best.The meal and service felt rushed .Difficult to gauge how long a large, mixed age group will take to eat a 3 course meal . The queue of second sitting diners around the bar area was disconcerting. If we'd known there'd be an A4 sheet on the table basically telling us to...'chew quickly and then get out of the way' we would have booked a later time .

Thought we would give this pub another go,as the last two visits were'nt good.As it was Valentines day,I treated my husband! It was very enjoyable,my husband had the gammon and I had the scampi,very nice.There were a couple of dishes not available from the menu,but not really a problem,as there were other choices.The lady who attended us was very pleasant and polite.Will visit again.

We called today for Sunday lunch, I started with the Brie, my partner had Prawn Cocktail, followed by Roast Lamb and roast pork, with plenty of tasty veg and gravy. Excellent service, my mum is disabled the staff went over & beyond meeting all her requirements. Will most definatly visit again soon. Exceptional experience.

Very disappointed with lunch with family, service was slow, food had to be sent back as it wasn't cooked properly. Everybody including staff wearing coats as the pub was so cold. I would not recommend.

Booked for1 night. Travelling as a family of 4 with children aged 13 and 10. (Boy and girl). We booked as we were attending a close family members funeral. We were travelling from the North East of Scotland. Prior to arrival we were called and advised they don't serve food on a Sunday evening however they offered to give us a selection of choices off the menu, ensure someone was in to accommodate us to prepare the meal. Whilst we very much appreciated their offer we declined and just ate en route. Lovely welcome on arrival. Cosy pub. Shown to our room. Without any exaggeration the family room was spotless. Full sized bunk beds for the children. Very comfy. Immaculate bathroom. Freshly cooked breakfast to order. Wished we were staying longer in happier circumstances. Strongly recommend this business. 6 of us went here for Christmas Day Lunch after having several good evening meals here and it didn't disappoint. We all had different starters and all were great. Portions were generous including the meat. Would recommend.

I took a family of six here in December 2016 and had an exellent carvery. The staff are friendly and provide an exellent sevice. The price is fantastic as well so will definately be going again. All family really enjoyed their food.

I have eaten here 3 times. This pub serves good quality pub food. The welcome is good and staff are friendly. The atmosphere varies depending on where you are sitting.

We live in the village and pop to the pub when friends stay over.We got married 11 Nov and took a party of 10 down to the pub in the evening before they all went home.Food ws fantastic , some of the best mussels Ive ever had.I'll be back to have them as a main soon. Our friends were amazed at the quality and value of the food.

Fabulous food. I had the beef in red wine sauce and partner had stuffed belly pork. Both were delicious. Lovely atmosphere with log burner on. Great staff.

My wife and I ate here early on Saturday evening. I had the beef in ale pie with chips and the oh had the Chicken and mushroom pie. The pies were tasty and the chunky chips lovely. Portion sizes were also quite big.

Drove passed the other week and saw the play area in the beer garden and with 2 young boys thought this would be an ideal place to go out for dinner and let the kids burn some energy.Kids had 'pizza' with chunky chips and penne Bolognese. Pizza was not a pizza but a rectangular ciabatta bread with tomato puree and melted cheer on top, my son only ate the cheese though.I had the scampi (7 on the plate) with chips and my OH had the beef pie. The food was satisfactory but I felt for the price it could have been better.My boys enjoyed and it was a nice meal with friendly service but I think next time we will just come for a few drinks.

I had a Take away Sunday dinner today. It comes all cold so you have to warm it up again which isn't great as none of it is fresh in the first place. I had to cover it in salt and mint sauce to get some sort of taste. It's so bland I don't know how they can serve it? Have they not tried it themselves??I have to admit. The weekday food is nice but the Sunday dinner is honestly shocking. Im assuming there is a different chef on the Sunday.Long story short, I ate the meat and the rest of it was binned. Disappointing. Never again.

We booked a family room, the room was huge, very large double bed and bunk beds, the ensuite was spacious too. The room was spotless, bed linen very high quality, the furnishings and decor were very modern and new looking. The young man who booked us in carried all our cases up to our room and made us feel very welcome. We had booked for dinner there with other family members, had just been served our starters which were delicious when the problems began! It had been raining all day suddenly the rain got much heavier the next thing water is pouring through the doors and within minutes the place was flooded. (I should add that this is a very rare occurrence and shouldn't put people off booking this hotel) The staff handled the situation incredibly well, we were told to continue eating while they tried to stop the water, of course everyone tried to help and quite quickly the situation was under control. Unfortunately the restaurant kitchen had to be closed for safety reasons so we didn't get our dinner. We ordered a takeaway to be delivered to our room but the staff insisted we eat downstairs and set us up a table in a dry area lit a log fire for us and made us as comfortable as possible. Despite the awful situation they were in they made us feel incredibly welcome and nothing was too much trouble they gave us free drinks, assured us that breakfast would be served as normal which it was and on leaving gave us a discount despite us feeling that our stay had not really been compromised in any way. They remained cheerful and hospitable throughout. Would highly recommend, the scenery surrounding the hotel is lovely and it is a good position to explore the area

It's OK for a quick pub lunch, and they are good portions, but wasn't majorly impressed. Wouldn't rush there again, but if your hungry and want a pit stop it's ok

visited here on the spur of the moment for sunday lunch it was myself and my partner and 9 month old son were shown to a table for 2 by waitress and then left my partner had to go and find a highchair for the baby, ordered 2 sunday lunches and 2 drinks lunch arrived within minutes presentation was spot on shame the actual food was bland and tasteless roast potatoes still cold in middle and both them and the stuffing were definately not fresh that day! after finishin lunch still no sign of any drinks had to go to bar to ask myself as the waotress seemed to be walkin around trying to look busy without actually doing anythin! after being asked about desert menu we waited 20 mins and gave up as the waitress constantky ignored us while chatting again doing nothing at the bar! will not be returning!

Lovely food and attentive staff. Very impressed with the lamb in particular but everyone really enjoyed their meals. We will be back soon!
