The best restaurants serving British food in Lowlands

Never stay at this hotel. The restaurant food is delicious and large portions. My family use to regularly eat here every Sunday before Covid. After Covid there's a staff shortage that affects the quality of the services. I only visit the restaurant again because the hotel is closing on the June 2nd this year. It is sad to see the hotel close. Hopefully someone buys this hotel and turn it into an apartments.

We stayed for a few nights after our wedding as it was close to the venue and it was amazing from start to finish. The staff couldn’t be more helpful, the food is absolutely delicious and the decor/vibe is wonderful. The towels were also really lovely and fluffy. We absolutely loved our time here and will definitely be back.

Let's get the moaning out of the way first. When we arrived they were obviously short staffed so check in took a bit longer than it should have and the member of staff on apologised for the delay. Rooms were reasonable size, comfortable and clean. Good price too. The Inn has character with the bar being a nice place to be. A selection of real ales that would put most hotels and pubs to shame. A good selection of wines and spirits too. Food was great, smoked haddock soufflé, beef cheeks and baked cheese cake were all well presented and delicious. No complaints. The breakfast menu was good and the usual full scottish was very good with quality ingredients. Staff were friendly, helpful and pleasant. Some interesting sights nearby for an apres breakfast constitutional. Great place for a night away.

Welcoming hosts and staff, great base to explore the area. Good food and drink offerings, cater well for allergens. Room was homely and comfortable. Would recommend!

Really good tasty chips in Wetherspoons and the food is really good the staff are friendly and helpful if you have any questions.

Absolutely awful bacon and sausage almost raw and bacon very salty. potato scone burnt. Wouldn't eat there again

Great find! A lovely little pub that serves great, homecooking food. The service was also really good with a lovely, friendly lady doing everything! Dog friendly too.

Breakfast was very good and so cheap compared to other places. Vegan definitely recommended..

Down to earth place. And go understanding that.

Great friendly place to stay for a few

Stayed at the Black Bull as a stop off coming down from Skye. The room was perfect for our family of four with bunk beds and toys for the little ones and a very thoughtful dog tray with bowls, blankets and even some food. It was perfect after a long day of driving. We will definitely be making it our go to place to stay whenever we are in the area.

Used to dine here every second week. But closed to the public in Dumfries. So we will never dine in a Table table again the same as our friends. You decided to close to the public.

Mackays was absolutely the best fish and chips I had tasted in years. The portions were very generous, and the menu was surprisingly wide-ranging too.

Excellent service with you ordering everything from your table which is very convenient. Good choice of food although children’s menu could be better and there were no pizzas which dissapointed our youngest grandchild. We all enjoyed what we ordered and look forward to calling again soon.

A family meal to celebrate my daughter's birthday and the start of our short holiday. Fantastic food. Could not have been better. Such a variety on offer
