Excellent coffee and scone at a very reasonable price. Slightly let down by the toilet which needs upgrading , otherwise 5 stars.

Arrived in Dumfries by train and headed for the river. We were a bit peckish and saw this little cafe opposite the bridge, so decided to give it a try. So glad we did as we had the best coffee we found on our three days in Scotland, together with lovely pancakes, banana and syrup for my wife and a superb bacon (as requested, well done), egg and tattie scone roll for me. In addition the proprietors and locals were extremely friendly and we ended up having a really good chat. Exactly what a cafe should be!

Disgusting...has this changed hands? As the breakfast we got looks nothing like the picture, we went as the reviews seemed good initially. Cheap frozen sausage deep fried, bacon like leather, 1tbsp of scrambled egg if we were lucky. The coffee was good

As my friends and I wondered around a busy Dumfries, we were getting hungry and decided a breakfast was in order. We decided a change of scenery was in order from our usual place. We decided Cafe Picallo as we had known it has new management and we hadn't tried this. Well... What a disappointing visit was to be had. It was quiet, and we were quickly served by a shy, quiet young girl who handed us a rather unpleasant looking plain menu that didn't have all options on it. We pointed to a breakfast offer in the window, which could not be read from the inside of the cafe. This was the worst mistake. Breakfast was served quickly. A plate of lorne sausage, beans, bacon, fried, bread, and egg. I took a bite of the beans, which tasted of steong vinegar. These were spat onto the plate in disgust. I apologise to the lady who witnessed this. I then tried the meats. All over cooked and cheap. Then a bite of the fried bread. This tasted like everything that it had been fried with. Awful! Then the egg. Crispy over cooked and just terrible. Save yourself the hassle walk past and find somewhere else.

My sister and I were visiting relatives in Dumfries and decided to have a cooked breakfast before our drive back to Wales, the Piccolo café was highly recommended, and it certainly lived up to the reputation. We both ordered a traditional cooked Scottish breakfast and it was delicious, all items cooked to perfection and piping hot tea too. We were delayed and decided to go back to the café for afternoon tea it was outstanding! by far one of the best we've had! The staff were very friendly and the café itself, very clean. I would highly recommend a breakfast or high tea from there.

Really enjoyed our lunch here today. The value for money is excellent and the selection of home-made cakes was amazing. Our lunch and cakes were all yummy. The waitress was so welcoming even under her mask.

Went here with my grandson for a quick lunch while waiting on the bus. it's been here for years, I can remember it when I was a teenager. It was spotlessly clean and our order arrived quickly. It was nicely presented and the waitress was really nice to my little grandson. We will definately be back.

I had an hour wait for a bus and decided to go in here for breakfast. It was mostly empty. So I didn't expect any problems. The girl behind the counter took my order, roll and sausage and pot of tea, It took forever to get that food and tea. While I waited I noticed that the tables that had been occupied earlier were littered with empty cups and plates ect. After a while two more staff? came in but they didn't clean the tables, they got themselves tea/coffe something to eat first. My roll and sausage finally showed up and it was okay. Tea was good. I n=might give this place another try another time.

Was at the café for a quick lunch last Saturday. Scott had the all day breakfast served with toast and tea £4, and had the most delicious homemade tattie soup. I could have bought the whole pot and took it home it was so nice.

Visited yesterday for lunch. It's a good place for a quick lunch. I had a cheese and onion toastie and salad - toastie was good, although the salad was poor as the lettuce was brown on arrival. This is unusual for this cafe. Scott had the all day breakfast which as ever was very good and exceptional value for money. Waiting staff were pleasant. Cafe at times can be a little busy but that is not a bad sign.

What a wee gem! Great home made food - soups, meals, snacks and cakes and even their own ice cream. Always welcoming chat from the family and their team. Does the boss make the best coffee in town? Well worth a visit.

Not been here in years until a rainstorm encouraged us into the premises. It was like a step into the 70's - but in a very re-assuring way. The curved booths, frothy coffee and simple menu were just the retro curative comfort blanket that was required on a wet and cold day

The steak tasted boiled not fried and the onions were sparse and undercooked. This was not a good steak baguette. Nice service though in good surroundings.

Amazing location just to the side of the A75 near Castle Douglas. Perfect spot to take a breath, enjoy the view and also the good coffee and flapjack that they serve. A great little find.

Excellent service with you ordering everything from your table which is very convenient. Good choice of food although children’s menu could be better and there were no pizzas which dissapointed our youngest grandchild. We all enjoyed what we ordered and look forward to calling again soon.

It's always a pleasant surprise to find a pub with a good menu using local ingredients! We ate well, the service was friendly. The pub has a large garden. This must be one of the best pubs for miles in any direction! My wife left her sunglasses behind, but Tim, the landlord, was super-helpful, finding them and posting them on. We will definitely go there again.
