Stopped here on business. Nice big car park to the rear next to the train station, which is free for guests. Fairly steep steps to navigate from the car park so if you have heavy bags you might need to ask for help. The bar area/lounge is very tired and not inviting, whilst the downstairs Bistro is fabulous! Really nicely decorated, and the service and food where both at an excellent level. The bedroom was a tail of two halves as well. The actual bedroom was quite nice, whilst the bathroom really was down on its heels. Breakfast was a little slow had to ask for coffee and just took to long to get going.....need to be swift in a morning people have things to do. Smoked haddock was tiny and came with a very small poached egg, two eggs would have been better.

Located just outside of the railway station. This quaint hotel has great service and small town charm. We need a week's worth of clothes cleaned on a Saturday and the staff contacted their service and got the job done. Early check-in was not a problem. Clean room with all the necessities.

Was going on a trip leaving from train station and decided to play safe and pay for parking. When entering hotel woman on desk was quite abrupt. I paid for the parking as a non-resident and my friend had asked when she had been in if it was ok to have tea and coffee before leaving. This had been fine until she went to get it and the lady that had been on reception had made a comment that if using facilities - our children had needed toilet before we got chance to order drink, that we should be getting something. We had paid for parking and could have just left it at that. Not often I need to park at the train station but will think twuce before giving them the business again.

I review this event every year and should really just do a cut and paste. The dinner was a 3 course affair. The pate and melba toast was excellent, especially the pate. Turkey with all the trimmings was also on the nail, with the meal presented hot and the turkey NOT overcooked, bags of gravy. Cheese and biscuits to follow and coffee, yum. Great value well done the station.

We stayed here in 2015 for a brief stay and enjoyed it then so returned again for 3 nghts to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful and immediately gave us a map and guidance on where to visit in the town. The waiting staff at meal times were also great, especially Marion, one of the waitresses, who always gave us a cheery smile and welcome. Room was great (Room 24) and the bed extremely comfortable. Will certainly return in the future when visiting the area.

The hotel was fine, didn't like the dinner our group was offered though. Meat was dry and overcooked and I would have liked some fresh vegetables. Bed and bathroom was fine.

Had our annual christmas dinner at this hotel. I went for the prawn cocktail followed by the festive turkey. The portion size was very generous and the turkey was tender and moist, retaining the juices and served with a lovely gravy. Excellent value for money. Well done the station hotel!!!

I was with a party of seven friends for Xmas lunch. We were there last year at the same time and there was a lovely warm Xmas atmosphere with other diners enjoying the occasion. This year we were shown to a room on our own which wasn't very warm .(The staff were apologetic and the heating was switched on.) The service was good. I had the melon which was very nice. I had the nut roast but left most of it as it was so soggy covered in a tomatoe sauce which was not very warm. The veg was ok. I had the Xmas pudding which was lovely but there wasn't enough brandy sauce to go with the pudding. We asked for more which was no problem. The company I was in made up for the lack of Xmas atmosphere of the hotel. A bit disappointed after last year.

Over the last 16 months, due to working commitments, I have been a regular guest here and felt like one of the family. Over the 16 months, the Hotel has been through, and continues to go through, a refurbishment programme - it has been well worth it. Minimum disruption to visitors was achieved and the result - see for yourself. The quality of food is always outstanding with flavour combinations that you wouldn't necessary think would work - but they absolutely do. I can't recommend a favourite to be honest because they are all amazing. Locally sourced produce is also a huge plus point. As in any Hotel, staff come and go and the Hotel has encountered this also. However, the staff who have been and gone, have all been excellent. Polite, courteous and extremely helpful. The level of professionalism is to be commended. The bedrooms themselves, either post or pre refurbishment, have all been spotlessly clean and the refurbished bathrooms are just stunning. I am sorry that due to work, I will no longer be staying here on a regular basis however I will continue to visit on a personal level mainly because of all the points above. Thank you to Aileen McGhie, Owner and all her staff for looking after me during my time working in and around Dumfries and Galloway. I will see you in the future.

we started our visit to the hotel by walking in the door- to be asked `may I ask what brings you here ?` by the woman at the reception. We only wanted a coffee while my older sister was at the station waiting for the next train. We did not feel very welcome and when we did order coffee the woman came back to our group saying that one of us had not ordered a drink ! That member of the group did not like tea or coffee, but to oblige we ordered water, which didn`t seem the correct thing to do as the woman looked annoyed. The woman then proceeded to work the coffee machine and at the same time told her staff off (with us within ear-shot) for not being able to make the coffee themselves. Surely it was her job to train them ?? We felt awkward and embarrassed for the staff. The coffee wasn`t even good ! I complained to `Best Western` and they advised me that it was outwith their control as it was a franchise. We will never be back at the place.

This restaurant is part of Smiths hotel at Gretna Green. We were in the final days of our holiday in Scotland and wanted to have a special meal. We were staying at the hotel and saw this had good reviews. Well it didn’t disappoint. It was good that you could pick and mix from the a la carte menu and the bar menu. Every course was very good. Because we had courses from both menus I didn’t think it was too expensive. The service was good although it was very busy with other events going on. The staff were kept busy but were still attentive to our needs. Would recommend if you want something special or just for an evening meal.

A super bed and breakfast with a lovely vegan curry and home baked ecclefechan tart in the bar which had an open fire. Steve and Mary looked after us like a mum and a big brother. Could not do enough for us including a very welcome lift to and from hoddom Bridge as we were walking the annandale way. And a packed lunch to order. Will recommend to all, especially walkers.

We ate here and finished our meal, the waitress cleared away and we decided we'd have another round of drinks before leaving. We waited 5, 10 minutes and the waitress never came back. I went in search of someone but couldn't find our waitress. I didn't like to open the doors to the kitchen. We waited another 5 minutes and my wife said 'this is ridiculous' and went off in pursuit. She found our waitress in the bar (was she watching TV, did she fancy the barman?) and asked if we could get some service. The waitress said 'the restaurant is closed', as if we were being unreasonable in expecting to be served a round of drinks. No, the restaurant isn't closed if you've still got people sitting at a table you're serving and you haven't asked them if they want a dessert or offered them the bill but simply buggered off. So we said OK, can we just pay the bill. Which we did, and obviously didn't leave tip. We won't be going back.
