The best restaurants in Lowlands

Really beautiful hotel. The Torr kindly hosted a funeral tea for our family and were so welcoming. The food was lovely (especially the sausage rolls!), and the service was excellent.

I don't think this place exists anymore! Wasn't anywhere to be seen and locals didn't know about it.

Arrived without booking, as we were unfamiliar with the area, and although the restaurant itself was full, we were generously offered a table, albeit in the bar area, which we were happy to accept. It would have been quite possible that we might have had slow service, even forgotten, but nothing of the sort; we were promptly seated with menus, our orders taken, and our meals served, all without undue delay by friendly restaurant and bar staff. The food was simple but delicious and perfectly cooked, in generous portions, and all concerned should feel proud of their contributions to such an excellent experience. Bravo!

Have passed this place quite often when visiting Dumfries. I had never popped in as the shopfront is a little uninspiring. However, I was wrong as I finally went in today and the food and service was first class. Prices were good too. No more passing by when next in the town. Straight to Molly Mae's Tea Room.

Visited with friends who were staying for the weekend. Friendly, informative staff. Tried a few of the gins (the non-alcoholic one for the driver). The tapas with the drink is fantastic, just enough to nibble on… Visited the little shop and purchased some ‘home grown’ gin to takeaway. Keep up the good work.

After a long journey & before visiting the Samye Ling Monastery we drove the extra 3 minutes into Eskdalemuir to the Old School community hub & cafe. Lovely coffee & a delicious fruit scone in the airy & welcoming cafe was just what we needed.

Wow found this went looking for somewhere to food was amazing Staff good too I had prawns so tasty and husband had chicken he was so full

What a little gem! Was on holiday in the area and found this lovely place on google. Great friendly service, food cooked fresh and delicious. Clean and inviting. Highly recommend. Only wish we'd found it earlier.

Great place with an atmosphere which is what you want in a pub. No food was served when we arrived but the polite staff made us forget we was hungry.

Absolute gem. Great attention to detail in well curated small plates. Understated establishment where the food is forward. Wine and cocktail list superb. Service a terrific blend of friendly and professional. Not a touristy dining experience. Gourmand’s delight.

No kids menu but they split the adult pizza for our boys to share. Pizzas and garlic bread were absolutely amazing, just perfect. Pasta great too. Tirimasu a little dry but other desserts lovely. Very friendly staff. Would go back.

We stayed in crainryan an chose to have our tea here which was handy as we was stay next door having our evening meal here ment we could enjoy a drink r 2 . Such a friendly atmosphere brilliant people really enjoyed our night . Food was really nice this place is a must visit even if just to have a little drink an meet great people x

Great place to stay, very welcoming and friendly, would have no issue returning

Had a stop here during a day trip to the borders. My teen son had the big breakfast and everything was cooked perfectly. He highly recommends the sausages. I had an amazing coffee and was welcome to sit and relax, not rushed out. Dog was treated like a queen, they brought her a bowl of water and had treats for her. The value for money is phenomenal, the plate was full with really well seasoned food. It’s difficult to find places that welcome your dog so openly on a day out. We had no problem getting parked and were in walking distance of a lovely little park with a viewpoint over the river.

Lovely little bar in the centre of Lockerbie, very welcoming and safe during these strange covid times
