We found this cafe as we were travelling in the area. Such a welcoming atmosphere. Very good menu with a good selection of Specials as well. Food was great and so was the service. My husband and I shared a Biscoff sundae after our lunch and it did not disappoint, not one bit. If you're in the area I would highly recommend The Olive Tree

We visited Olive tree after staying in an air b&b in the village and popped for some lunch and a coffee. It was quite busy with no tables available, a member of staff bent over backwards putting a table in a space to allow us to sit in. She did this also with another walk and and was super friendly and accommodating. After lunch we left with take away cakes, they were delicious! Highly recommend

We were right in thinking food options would be limited (or as it transpired, non existent) at Kielder Forest and there aren’t many generally so we were lucky to get a table here on our way back. Stumbled upon the Olive Tree whilst exploring this beautiful part of the Borders on my road bike...Had a delicious coffee, a filling egg and sausage roll and a yummy piece of homemade cake: more than enough fuel for another 40 miles cycling..! Highly recommended, the place had great vibe, and the service was very friendly and very quick despite them being quite busy. I did joke that the only negative was the amazing selection of cakes: I didn't know which to choose...!

After a trip to Kielder we went for a drive to find a cafe over the border in to Scotland for lunch and found this cafe/bakers on the main street in Newcastleton. I used to holiday here as a child and was delighted to see that they still bake the same classic cakes that they did in the 1970’s as well as many new creations. The cafe however is cosy, clean and comfortable without being pretentious, and provided a good selection of hot paninis, baked potatoes etc not to mention cakes and excellent coffee. The staff were lovely, friendly and efficient and it was a very enjoyable lunch at a reasonable price. In fact it was so good I shall go out of my way visit again soon. Highly recommended.

Visited on two occasions whilst staying at Newcastleton because the Copshaw was shut. Offers full menu all day but do not go much before lunch if you want anything that requires a deep fat fryer. Breakfast then on two occasions, both the same, no second day only two halves of toast and one butter, first three halves of toast and two butters. No blackpudding which is disappointing for a scottish breakfast. Could use local produce but seem to prefer to bring in from Tesco, home delivery actually whilst we were sat there.Teapots tend to be very heavy. Food not bad but only that for a breakfast.

We visit Newcastleton often throughout the year and in times gone by have had regular pit stops here but today the coffee was very sub standard, instant coffee granules mixed with hot water and very little milk is what it tasted like, on the plus side the bacon roll was OK. A couple of friends and I visit this café at least once a month, mainly for something to eat around mid afternoon (lunch!). This time we arrived at 3.45, 1/4 hour before the café closes, but we were greeted like old friends, with a smile and genuine friendliness. As it was so late we couldn't have our usual paninis but were offered a wide selection of cakes with our tea and coffee. The waitress was chatty as were a couple of other members of staff. The cakes were, as usual, fresh and delicious and they make a great cuppa (in a teapot and there's plenty of it). The battenburg melts in the mouth. Our usual fare of jacket potatoes or paninis is delicious, with a terrific choice of fillings. Same thing with filled rolls and sandwiches.

Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Don't normally do reviews, and only stopped for a quick coffee and bacon roll, but felt this place really deserves an excellent review. Rare to find a place that does such a decent coffee (cappuccino done properly, in a sensible sized cup not a Costa bucket), the staff were lovely - all of them - and there was a nice stove in the corner on a bitterly cold January morning. Never stopped off here before on an A68 run - will make a habit of it now.
