Green Tree Restaurant in Scottish Borders

Unfortunately my stay here does not meet with the favourable reviews of others. En route to to the rooms was via a narrow hallway with a couple of steps to the swing door. Where many hands had pushed it open…the dirt was obvious Shown to my room on arrival and was GREATLY disappointed. So many notices of what NOT to do. Anything negative in my comments are supported by photos. It was both shabby and grubby. (room 5). Cleanliness doesn’t come at a cost.. The covering on an armchair was sooo worn in parts. A bedside lamp still had the charity shop sticker n the plug. (Grubby). Off/on switch for heater dirty. Shower drainer was covered in verdigris which I started to clean just to prove it was possible. One of the towels was ripped with holes in it. I didn’t point out any of this to the management/staff since I was there to relax and not get stressed. Cannot understand this situ where rooms in this condition are made available to guests.

Had a family member stay here recently. Absolutely disgusting service. Room was outdated, no TV in room, despite what is advertised. Grumpy staff. Tried to charge an extra £20 when they checked out. Avoid at all costs. Sad to see how much this place has gone down hill.

Came here for lunch with family of 13 for a catch up, Menu was good, the portion sizes for the price were big and 100% value for money for what you got, I had steak pie, plenty of it plenty of veg and potatoes if I knew the portion size was big I would have passed on having chips too ! lol The only thing I would say is a few had the macaroni which was nice but the sauce was a bit too watery it needed to be a bit thicker but that's the only constructive criticism I would pass on either than they they enjoyed it. I would defo recommend the place to anyone who is looking for a bit to eat in Peebles, staff were lovely, family have been there a couple of times for a get together but it's the 1st time I have been with family for the catch up so I was well impressed !

Meal as usual was lovely but the service was poor . Wrong drinks order . Service by waiting staff was offhand and quite frankly off putting , when it came to paying the bill showed lack of professionalism . Witnessed one member of staff tutting and showing disrespect . Therefore the tip was taken back . Family members have been going to the Greentree for years . Staff require training in customer skills. Having trained myself in hotel management - curtesy and manners should be observed .

Rooms are basic but clean. The staff were outstanding, very warm and welcoming. The food was delicious and atmosphere cosy and comfortable

10 out of 10 ,have only had food here, so I'm not sure about rooms, but if the food is anything to go on, I am sure everything else is just as good .Good portion, price, and service.

First Christmas Dinner turkey and the rest excellent

The food is absolutely fantastic so is the service. I recommend management change the decor as it looks like an army mess hall. Paint it a nice warm colour with a couple of really colourful paintings. When we walked in, the ambience put us off but, after we tasted the food we were smitten. Would definitely recommend.

Their food was beyond excellent. The decor needs changing as it's a bit off putting. Should be redecorated with warm colours. Excellent food highly recommended.

Been here before and all good but went the other day with my wife,son and his 2 children. Meal was great, but the service was poor. Waited for some time to be asked what we wanted. After a couple who came in some time after us got Waited on I had to ask to get served, how strange is that?

Booked for my son and mums joint birthday meal! As ever blown away by the welcoming atmosphere and excellent service of the staff at the Green tree. They go above and beyond every time. Food of the highest quality and the portions are incredible. No one would leave this establishment hungry. Massive thank you to all the team!

Great wee place in peebles, good food and great atmosphere in the bar.

What a hidden gem, we stayed in the family room which was perfect for our stay had complimentary wash and soap in the bathroom and a kitty full of biscuits and tea and coffees. To top it off the STAFF were FANTASTIC!! So accommodating,friendly and made our stay even better

Family gathered for Birthday Sunday lunch. The lamb roast was superb! Service was excellent with great staff. Thoroughly recommend.

Great service provided by friendly and welcoming staff team. The menu offers dishes that will suit a variety of tastes....the steak-pie is legendary. Check out the daily specials board. All dishes prepared and presented in a 1st class manner.

On first glance of the restaurant i was a little bit apprehensive, it was more posh cafe like than restaurant The staff were really good, friendly and helpful, ordered drinks and food, the drinks were there in a couple of minutes. The food wasn’t long , chicken stuffed with haggis and a pepper sauce (basically chicken ballmoral) obviously no whiskey 😊 The chicken and haggis was delicious as was the sauce , the vegetables cooked really well! All in all a really good tasty meal and drinks at a reasonable price!

Poor quality gluten free curry - very sweet tasted like sweet and sour sauce with curry powder. Waiting staff should be aware that there is no cutlery on the table - if there is no spoon visible then that is a clue and do not ask the question ' do you need spoons?' Peebles is not a place that is any use for gluten intolerant customers - doesn't mean vegan or vegetarian.

Friendly professional greeting,shown to a nice fireside table,nice prompt service. Really nice menu with a wide choice to suit all pallets. Waiting staff nice . Food was very tasty and plentiful. Will definitely be back.

We were down in Peebles for a family wedding and decided to stay here till the Monday for another night If you are looking for a hotel to stay in the area 100% recommend here Absolutely faultless from start to finish from booking in/checking out Staff/food/cleanliness absolutely 10/10 We will definitely be back in the future Thank you guys Keith and Senga x

Only used the restaurant not the hotel rooms. Food was beautiful service excellent and Peebles is very scenic with lovely walks and small shops with something a bit different. Lunch is 12-2 and evening meals served from 5pm. I will certainly be back.

I visit the Green Tree regularly and the food never disappoints. The regular menu consists of traditional favourites and there is also ‘daily specials’ which are always varied. Food is always delicious, freshly cooked and beautifully served. Staff are very efficient and friendly, they go out their way to assist. The place is always busy but this doesn’t affect the service or quality of the food. Definitely worth a visit. Recommended.

Only went to small , unspectacular Pub and I found nothing to warrant a return. Go to the Bridge Pub instead. Nothing necesssarily bad but as a visitor I would not go back.

Excellent staff, great food, my wife and I had home made chicken & vegetable soup at lunch, delicious! We were so impressed we went back with 2 friends for dinner! 4 of us ate different meals. All superb! One of our party is gluten intolerant, the staff went out of there way to provide an excellent fish dish. Great quality, great portions. Brilliant 👏 👏 Don't let the outside put you off, it looks a little dated, it's well worth a visit! We'll be back next time we're in Peebles. Thank you!

Long established hotel/bar/restaurant in a good location in the centre of Peebles. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Dogs are welcome in the bar but if you have kids under 18 and a dog then you won't be allowed the kids in the bar due to Scottish licensing laws. Food was reasonably priced but very good quality. Well worth a visit if you're visiting the area.

3rd visit,though we'd try the Christmas menu,,,wrong choice😪 Firstly waited 10 minutes to be seated in a freezing reception with around 6 other people,then shown into a hall , when I had booked the small area,then eventually ordered by the most dullest waitresses ever,the 2 young girl were fine. Good choices on the menu ,but the roast best was as tough as old boots,dog enjoyed it when we got home. Turkey was fine and plentiful. Kids had the steak burger, tastless, macaroni, no taste. Seeing it was Christmas the hall could have been a little bit Christmassy. Quick enough with the bill,but very poor service overall 😕

A friendly staff and private parking. Interior cozy especially the lounge. Wide selection of food including smaller portions. Good quality meals including items like Sea Bass ans Gamon. Everything hot and well cooked. No long waits. First class.

My wife and I have had a meal at this excellent restaurant when we have visited Peebles in the past and once again the meal proved was great. The staff are kindness itself and treat customers with care and kindness from what we have observed. Well done Green Tree and 'we will be back' !

Was at the green tree last week not impressed with the fish-and-chips because the chips are disgusting, They are chips with the skins still on them Not worth the money, just a cheap and easy way out, as apposed to the real thing

We decided to give The Green Tree a try for lunch. We were not disappointed. What a lovely place with really good, hardworking staff. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. The food is excellent and great value for money. An extensive menu with daily specials on offer. Enjoyed it so much we actually booked a nights stay for later in the year. Eight of us visited the restaurant and everyone had a most enjoyable evening dinner. A fairly varied menu provided us all with a delightful and plentiful meal. Aside from the typical “pub” favourites there were also numerous specials on offer. Suffice to say all eight of us would eat here again in a heart beat.
