Almond Tree in Scottish Borders

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Visited with son, he had an Americano, I had a flat white to drink, both were very enjoyable. To eat, he had a roll and sausage followed by chocolate sponge (which was very very good!)and I had stovies followed by cherry and marzipan scone. Food was very tasty, as always. Service was quick and friendly, everything was piping hot Incredibly reasonably priced too.

A truly delightful visit today with a delicious lunch. Very friendly staff. Excellent value for money too. Was really pleased to support such a great initiative.

This cafe obviously attracts a large local clientele. However, my coffee was probably the worst I have had for over 20 years. My Americano with milk turned into a boiled milk extremely weak coffee. The slice we had was very good and the staff are pleasant.

I visited today after going for a run with my husband. The cafe was nice and clean, with lovely wipeable tablecloths. We chose large cappuccinos, and they were large, a really good size and we shared a fruit scone, which was lovely! Homemade, lots of fruit and really fresh. We could have had the scone of the day which, was orange, or one of a huge selection of chocolatey tray bakes. We shared the scone and without asking, we’re brought a second plate, so thoughtful. Hawick is quite a small town so it seemed that everyone else in the cafe knew each other, there was lots of happy banter. A real find!

Stumbled across this little cafe on a day trip to Hawick. We had Mac and cheese (the best I have ever tasted) some soup and a baked potato. Everything home made and couldn’t fault it at all. Staff are lovely and so welcoming. Bought some home made baked cakes too and can’t wait to try them later. The fact this is a charity just tops it all off- would recommend.

We had a lovely lunch in the Almond Tree today, came across it purely by chance on a visit to Hawick. The cafe had a super atmosphere, warm, welcoming and inclusive, and the service and food were both great. Love the ethos behind the cafe, great to see young people gaining skills and proving themselves to be highly employable. Those who manage The Almond Tree and those who volunteer there should all be proud of themselves, its a really inspiring place and project. And definitely check out the traybakes!

We found this cafe by chance and were delighted with the food and staff. The cafe was spotlessly clean, staff friendly, very efficient and polite and lovely food - don’t miss out on trying the traybakes. Will definitely be back

Quick visit for a bite to eat at lunch. Panini and jacket potato followed by apple crumble. Very reasonable prices and helping a good cause. Very popular at 12 noon!

One of our favourite lunch stops. Clean and comfy, excellent food at a reasonable price and served by friendly staff. What's not ot like??? Tables are well spaced and the cafe is not large so it is adviseable to book at busy times.

We stumbled upon this fantastic little cafe whilst travelling through the borders of Scotland. Brilliant waitress service! Absolutely sensational cherry scone alongside quality coffee all within a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Visited this eatery several times now and each time we are treated like it was our first visit. Absolutely super people skills shown by ALL the staff, particular soft spot for little Rachel ( friends of friends). Food quality and presentation is of the highest standard which is of course testament to your kitchen staff also. Keep up your excellent work all of you. You and your efforts are most appreciated.

What fantastic service my 3 boys and I received here recently. Nothing seemed a bother at all as we were seated and ordered our drinks and snacks. I even pre-ordered a panini for takeaway and it arrived perfectly on time just before I left, lovely and fresh...! Speedy free wifi too which meant I was able to work whilst the children played on their devices. Absolutely magic. Would happily recommend and visit again if we can.

Always like to pop in when in area, and enjoyed many dishes here. The cakes and coffee are particularly great. Always a warm friendly atmosphere with excellent service. It's almost like visiting family 😊

Unfortunately it was not a satisfactory visit for my husband and I. We ordered 2 takeaway coffees. These were bitter and watery, I in fact, could not finish mine and had to bin it. Certainly would not return.

Visited as part of a short break in Northumberland. We had to sit outside (usually a good idea with 2 dogs). The staff were so friendly and immediately offered water for the dogs. We had a bowl of soup (homemade Minestrone) and a filled roll...

Our first visit to the Almond Tree. Staff were very friendly. Tea as well as coffee could have been stronger and my lemon cake lacked flavour a bit. Tea loaf was good, nice comfy sofas. Prices for what we had were very reasonable.

Bright and airy premises with a display of local art work for sale. Polite, friendly and helpful staff serving good food at reasonable prices. What more could you ask for - the added bonus that you're helping the local community:-)

Scones to die for and actually were homemade and baked that day - and you could tell. This cafe is clearly a hugely popular resource for the local community in Hawick and their offering of home cooked frozen meals to take away is a fantastic...

First thing, the concept of soup and a pudding is revolutionary! Second, I asked for a breakfast bagel without bacon and this was no issue at all! Even had extra sausage added in! Thank you for the extra attention to detail. We will be back!

I'd recommend this venue particularly for: friendly efficient staff, delicious well presented lunches, unusual and innovative cakes, clean and very pleasant environment. Go to it!

We are regular callers when we pass through Hawick. This social enterprise cafe has established it's self and is going steadily.

This is a not for profit community cafe, a ray of hope in an otherwise drab town. It offers employment to those who might otherwise struggle. The food and service were fine. The only meant to be constructive comment is that the supervising staff need to allow vulnerable staff a chance to get on with things that, make mistakes, learn from them and grow in confidence.

I don't know what it is about this cafe, think they've changed their coffee. Used to be alright but last few visits, the coffee hasn't been the best, quite weak.

I visited your café at lunchtime today(12pm - 12.45pm), normally I go for a late breakfast (between 10.20 am and 1045 am and have a toasted teacake) but today I had the Soup and Pudding special which was Carrot and Coriander soup which was hot and delicious, (I didn't eat the roll it came with), along with the pudding of Apple Crumble (again I swapped the custard with cream), once the Apple Crumble came, I delved into it to discover it was overcooked or something, I could not taste the apples, just crumble. I am usually a fan of your puddings but today it wasn't for me sorry. I will be back as I like visiting your café when i'm along the street myself.

I was told this was the place to eat and we had breakfast here! It was great to see the young folk getting a chance and the smiles on their faces when you spoke to them ! The food was great bacon and sausages in fresh rolls. Coffee and tea and all at a great price! The cafe was clean and tidy and busy yet the service was outstanding!

Staffed by enthusiastic and helpful volunteers, the food is freshly prepared and excellent value for money. Superb home-baking and excellent coffee.

This is a small but lovely place to eat. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is fantastic, fresh and good value. The puddings are divine. If you are ever in the Borders I strongly recommend a visit.

Popped in for lunch 4 of us plus baby. Had fishcakes which were lovely. Bagels and Paninis for other, which looked and tasted great. All freshly done. Great friendly service, and nothing too much trouble. As for 4 Strawberry Tarts to take away, and wow they were lush ! Perfect pastry and nicely presented. Thanks ever so guys, you are doing a grand job.

Had very tasty salmon and chorizo fishcakes with other members of the family having panini (steak recommended) and soup, with waffle / scones / traybake to follow. Good service and friendly atmosphere!

We had earl grey tea for two, fruit cake and scone with butter and jam, all for about price of a top end coffee in one of big international coffee houses. Fruit cake had rich taste of mature fruit

I love that this cafe benefits the folk who live in the town.

Busy little place right in the centre of town. 1st time i have been in here and its a lovely place for lunch and its charity based too. Had a brie and cranberry toastie followed by a gorgeous licorice allsorts cake...yummy.

Tuesday 17 April I arrived in Hawick by bus from Kelso just as the shower turned a little heavier so when I saw The Almond Tree on the opposite side of the street I hurried across and entered. It is a pleasant café and I was the only male at that time, early afternoon. I ordered a bowl of Sweet Potato and Parsnip Soup which was delicious and warmed me so that, when the rain had ceased, I could continue my search for the remnants of the old Edinburgh-Carlisle railway line through the town-- and I found what I looked for !

Really like the idea of this cafe trying to get people with various health issues into work. The food is excellent as is the service. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Usually busy at lunch time which has to be expected considering the quality and price of the meals

Excellent coffee in a community cafe, providing a learning experience for young people who are struggling to find employment.

Went in for morning coffee. Staff very friendly. Coffee good and orange and ginger scone was delicious. Art work by local artists on display - reasonable prices.

It was a bit of a let down though it had a couple of redeeming features.

After visiting here I am left wondering why they're aren't more cafés like this. A great idea that should be replicated in every town. More of this please.

This is a charity cafe which aims to give locals some true work experience and it shows in the service which they provide.

Good choice of food with good service. If it is late in the day, don't forget closing time is closing time.

The food was very good I had goat cheese stack warm, my husband the smoked fish fish cakes, both where excellent. Very clean and the staff friendly would highly recommend.

Had heard from a friend that this new community cafe had opened in Hawick and was keen to try it for myself at the earliest opportunity. We were not disappointed .... there was a good choice of food ... and it was well cooked and presented. The staff could not have been more attentive or friendly and the place had a lovely atmosphere - a real refuge from the bustle and noise of the High Street outside. The scones were SO tasty, best I've had in quite a while. Please do go and check it out for yourself - the coffee's good too and the prices are more than reasonable. Top marks !!

Went in for light snack . I had a filled roll but my son who was a little hungrier had lasagna . We both had drinks as well . The food was excellent . Staff lovely . Highly recommend

Visited here on Saturday 23 September. We were staying in Hawick for the night and were looking for somewhere to have lunch. The almond tree is lovely and clean inside. Plenty of customers came and went while we were there.We had home made ham soup, hubby had a cheese toasted. We both had coffee and a delicious fig and banana scone each, with butter and jam. Delicious!We would recommend this cafe and will definitely be back. Staff were courteous, efficient and friendly.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere with pretty decor. Special needs friendly. Good service & yummy food. Constant flow of customers but no pressure. We popped in for coffee & returned later the same day for lunch. Look forward to coming back on our next visit to Hawick.

Visited for lunch with family and enjoyed good basic food. Had scrambled egg rolls with a very generous amount of filling. Rolls were lovely and soft and also a generous size. A very nice selection of home-baked cakes which were delicious. Tea pot enough for two good cups, coffee was ok but standard machine quality. Facilities very clean. All in all a very pleasant experience and will definitely return.

this cafe is lovely good food pleasant staff and very friendly. besides morning coffee or tea and lovely lunches they also do a very good afternoon tea which consists of three sandwiches of your choice a homemade scone with butter cream and jam and a strawberry and three small cakes and coffee ur tea for the unbelievable price of under six pounds i highly reccomend this cafe.

Took my mouther here at start of year got ham and chease tostie and coffie good price and i realy enjoyed it. This is a good place for being mostly volentears but i would say give it a try as it is a verry nice caffy with staff that are verry helpful and kind in genral 8/10 i would rete this place as theres allways room for inprovement..

Met a couple of colleagues for lunch here. Menu was ok - had something for everyone and the coffee was good. Staff were pleasant and the food was ok - nothing to write home about but no Burger remorse which is always a good thing.

It was heartening to find a cafe open before 10:00am.However the latte was very week,had no froth,was too hot to drink and tasted like instant coffee.I cannot rate food as I didn't have any.

Just popped in here for a coffee and cake. Coffee - piping hot; Cake - blueberry and delicious! Loved the chat we had with the lady serving and impressed with the service this page provides giving opportunities to people finding it difficult to obtain training and work - really valuable in they day and age. We wish all who are connected with the Almond Tree all the very best.

This place is manned by nearly all volunteers gaining employment experience. Very polite and friendly staff. Had lovely scones and tea. Well worth a visit!

Nipped in today for a quick light snack. Cafe was very clean, welcoming and the most important thing was you were not rushed. Staff were pleasant and nice. We only had tea/coffee and toast & marmalade. Was totally delicious. Sofa's were comfortable and relaxing. Whenever we are in Hawick we will go there again. The best thing is it's a charity who focus on helping young people secure work experience and mentoring. 10/10 from us for doing this to help local young people.

I was in having spot of late lunch and the new menu of minute steak & mushrooms is great idea I enjoyed my meal. My mum had the beef hotpot she enjoyed the meal also. Staff on the toll area gave good service and politeness. Today I can rate this 9/10I will be back keep up the minute steaks :)

Went in as the weather had not been good, and little one was hungry and cold. Great food, and great staff. They couldn't do more for you.

We had driven to Hawick from Yorkshire and had the me for a quick cuppa before our appointment. Walking on the high street we spotted the Almond Tree and popped in. It looked just the ticket, quick and simple and certainly delivered. We were tempted to have a slice of cake each, not sure if they were made in the premises but were delicious none the less. A piping hot cuppa and cake set us in the way very well and I would have no problem recommending this simple but charming establishment

Had a great meal at the almond tree, the Mac and cheese was excellent along with the ploughmans salad which had huge piece of cheese. Great concept and the staff were excellent. Have eaten here twice while we were staying near Hawick and both times was excellent.

We are frequent visitors of the almond tree and are always met with warm friendly staff and nicely cooked food. I do love the atmosphere of the place and the way this place operates in offering employment opportunities to disadvantaged individuals is wonderful. A true gem in a small town with not a lot going for it at the moment! Ps try the hot chocolate it's very good :) my daughter also enjoys coming here and will often ask to go for a coffee when we are down the street. Keep up the great work

I pop into The Almond Tree all the time as I work up the road, so it's handy at lunch time. Not only do I think this place has great food, it's an amazing concept for those who lack experience in the work industry. All the staff are friendly and you can tell they all try their hardest. I just wish somewhere like this had been around when I was about 15/16 years old, as it would have helped me gain experience earlier and would have allowed me to get a job too.

Brilliant. This charity run cafe was just the ticket in our road trip. Fresh home style cooked food and very reasonably priced too. Can't recommend this place enough. Great place. Well done.

Delicious soup here. Spicy parsnip served with multigrain bread and butter. Yummy. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Would recomend to all.
