Seasons Kelso in Scottish Borders

Had a meal at Sultan’s whilst on holiday in the Scottish Borders. Don’t be fooled by the plainness of the dining area, the food, portion sizes and service are excellent. We booked a table on-line via Sultan’s website, and had an issue getting our deposit back. However, the Manager was quick to refund us directly, so no complaints from us. Top customer service.

First takeaway order was mixed results. Got the set meal for 2. Asked to change one of the curries which was done at a cost of an extra £1, bit cheeky as what i got was cheaper on the menu . The chicken tikka masala was changed to chicken bhuna. Chicken chunks were dry and overcooked with 2 small chunks of red pepper, 1 of green pepper. Sauce was nice. Chicken madras was very spicy and partner enjoyed it. That chicken was moist.3 large onion bhaji-overcooked and very, very hard and greasy. Mango chuntney-watered down, riata was much the same, spicy onions not nice, dont know what the 4th one was.. Naan was very chewy/hard as if it was old. Poppadoms were okay as were the two rices.chicken tikka side was again overcooked, onions were good in that. The potatoes in the aloo were far too big so spices didnt get to permeate which wa a shame as they tasted nice on outsides. All in all, dissapointing given dry overcooked chicken, chewy hard naan etc. Wont be a second chance, too dear to risk it. Maybe a sit in meal would be better?

Staying in the borders for the weekend and fancied an Indians and this place was 10/10! Curry had so much flavour and the chips/rice were perfect😊 Also threw in some free poppadoms for us! Thanks guys. Will be back!

Quiet, relaxing wee place and a delicious toastie! Brie and sundried tomato on a lovely bread! Very quick service! Would definitely revisit!

Sultans served the tastiest Indian food I have had in years. Great fresh cooking with quality ingredients. The service was brilliant and the meal was excellent value for money. I will definitely be going back.

Definitely recommend if you're looking for delicious freshly prepared Indian food. Our party had the chicken tikka chasni and korma with pilau rice and garlic naan. Ten out of ten everything. A special mention to Jack who was our server. He was so friendly and welcoming and did a fantastic job looking after us during our visit.

Here on holiday and ate in on Monday evening. The food and service was so good that we went back tonight before returning home tomorrow to the west coast. Mizar was the perfect host, chatted with us and made us very welcome. If you are in the area, you need to try this restraunt. Food and service is excellent.

Just ate at the restaurant. Had the chicken tikka Naga curry which was amazing. I like hot food and this lived up to it's name. Really tasty and heat built up more you ate. Would highly recommend dining here.

An amazing Indian meal!! We couldn't have enjoyed it more. I highly recommend the pistachio korma if you like sweet and creamy curries, I haven't seen this on an Indian menu before and it was truly amazing. Staff were so attentive and lovely.

Dined on Saturday 27th January, ordered poppadoms, chutney tray, mixed platter, chicken madras and 2 chicken tikka masala, food very nicely presented and full of flavour, nice decor and friendly and helpful staff

I don't think I'll be ordering a takeaway from Sultans in Kelso ever again. This is my 5th attempt hoping against hope I'll get decent service & a decent meal. When they finally answer the phone they immediately put you on hold for what seems like forever. They asked me when I wanted to pick it up & I told them & they said it would be ready. I got there - no one in the restaurant apart from disgruntled customers waiting for their takeaway. I was told I'd have to wait yet another 5mins. It took 10. When I got it home, it was just a basic sauce which they added peppers & onions to & they were hard & crunchy. The Saag Aloo had ENORMOUS chunks of potatoes in it & very little else & basically tasteless. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE will someone open a good Indian restaurant/ takeaway in Kelso because Sultans is an INSULT to Indian cuisine.

Bit disappointed, no alcohol licence and £2.95 per person charge to bring your own. Food mediocre, was cold and we were the only 2 customers, not surprisingly

We were greeted by a lovely young man called Jack, he attended to all our needs with a pleasant smile the food we had was plentiful and cooked to perfection the place looked clean and the food was reasonably priced would definitely recommend

Been here a couple of times for a sit in meal and also had takeaways from there. Experience normally good but last experience was terrible we ordered online for a takeaway was told a half hour wait. drive down after half a hour to collect my order told to take a seat as will be a further ten mins. Take a seat 20mins pass ask how long it was going to be got told it’s coming in five mins. After waiting almost 30 to 40mins in the shop and asking for my food or refund they finally brought my order to me. Once got home realised we had items missing from our order wasn’t much but still annoyed about this but at this point it had been over two hours since ordering food and we was starving so didn’t ring to complain. Understand if they’re busy as a few people was in and out for takeaways and some people in for sit in meal. But why say a time if you’re going to be nowhere near that time. What really annoyed me is a group came in sat at there table for a sit in and there food was ordered and arrived at the table before my order well I was sat there waiting for my takeaway. Seems wrong they got there’s first. Terrible service and expect better

Popped along for a date night with the hubs and honestly could not have been more impressed. On arrival the front of house staff where attentive and advised on where to buy our wine for our meal (not a licenced restaurant but co op 2 minute walk) I love my indian food and can honestly say this is the best Ive had, I ordered the chicken tikka madras and it was superb, onion bhajis where beautiful and not greasy as Ive had at many other indian places. Hubby had the Rogan josh (not much of an indian food lover) but he said it was 'absolutely delicious'! Couldn't fault the pricing of the food either, all very reasonable, will be back again soon!!! *****

All enjoyed our meals and arrived before time given. Driver was friendly and called to check he was at the correct address. Definitely recommend. Had a Biriyani, Chasni, Madras and a tandoori mixed grill.

Had a very memorable night with our 2 young kids. Highly recommend the pasanda or korma , a favourite of me and my partner. Very well priced for the quality of the food. The staff were outstanding with us at the end of our meal were i proposed and my partner said YES. Many Thanks

Do not let the look of the outside put you off, a great restaurant with outstanding food very reasonably priced. The restaurant is not licensed but for a corkage charge ( £3.50 for a bottle of wine) you can bring your own drink, there is a co-op 5 mtrs. away. We planned to go one night but returned the following night the food was that good and service excellent.

So I’m told they only take cash when I went to pay for my takeaway but they take cards if you’re having a meal. Maybe this is normal but it seems like they do this to suit themselves and not the customer. The food was ok but the chicken was pretty tough. I won’t be rushing back.

A very good authentic Indian cuisine experience. Superb attention from the owners and staff. Helpful recommendations of their selection of food and drinks. Fresh tasty food came quickly, didn't feel rushed, great service. Plentiful portions, with plenty of flavour. This is an unlicensed restaurant, but don't fear as there is a coop locally near by with a large selection of drinks. Overall prices were about right for the meal, however the charge for corkage per person seemed excess. We would definitely return.

Expensive, not the best quality

Had a lovely meal delivered yesterday evening. Arrived on time and as hot as if we had been in the restaurant. We tend to order a wee collection of sides and a single portion of rice to fit our appetites and these portion sizes were perfect. We had Vegetable Rice, Saag Paneer, Bombay Aloo, Tarka Daal and a Peshwari Naan - all really flavoursome and well prepared and very reasonable in price. Would totally recommend.

Stopped nearby whilst riding the Northumberland 250. In general Indian food is popular and of high standards in Scotland. My experience of Indian food is not insignificant (Bradford, Birmingham, and numerous friends from India and Pakistan) so I can't give it 5 stars, but as you can see from the photos it is well prepared. Portion sizes acceptable. Prices in keeping with current global economic circumstances.

I have eaten here on several occasions this year (2023) and every time the food has been amazing. They will adapt any dish to your taste and they will recommend dishes if you tell the type of flavours you like. The service is alway good. They don't have an alcohol license but there is a Co-Op just 50 yards along the street, this makes your meal quite inexpensive. Highly reommended.

This was a holiday meal in a rural area not easy to find. But we had efficient delivery. The food was first class and would recommend greatly 👌

We were staying in a nearby village so ordered a takeaway collection, they served the best Tikka Masala I have ever had, we all got a selection of biryani, keema naan, and Kormas and for 4 meals it cost £40+ so average priced. No card payment facilities though so make sure you either pay online or take cash to pay for your order.

The food is outstanding and the portions are very generous. The staff are extremely lovely, welcoming and friendly. They deliver in, and a short distance out with, Kelso and even the drivers/taxi service they use are very kind, polite and respectful.

Excellent service, great value for money, the food is always hot and fresh, thanks again to all the staff at Sultans

My husband and I visited Kelso for the first time and tried several eating places, but we couldn't keep away from this little gem. The people were lovely and served great food. The homely feeling was just perfect. The locals popped by daily you could tell they had built a great rapport with the local. The choclates are a must! Cant wait to visit again. Thank You. Angelica, Rab and Susie the dog.

I think they’ve upped the prices paid £42.50 for two meals i Call it rip-off Wouldn’t let me take a menu from the counter to check prices only take cash when you’re walking food is okay but £42.50 for two males I don’t think so won’t be going back in a rush

Delicious and tasty, good service

If you want an Indian meal then definitely get one from here. We were on holiday here last year and ordered a meal from them which was excellent, so ordered one again this year and again very very good. We had ours delivered which was in good time and the quantity you get was amazing. Please don't listen to reviews like "it arrived late" "it was cold when it got here" those are just the one's nip picking that need to find faults.

Had the special biryani and my partner had chicken tikka masala and both were amazing. The gentleman serving was brilliant. If we are back in the area will definitely be back. Would highly recommend

Food fab, service fab. Only issue was not being screened off from take-away customers and the draught from door. We have also had plenty take- aways from here, never disappointed.

Fantastic food and service. We ate in and I had the Sultan’s tiger special (with lamb) and it was incredible! Such an incredibly tasty dish. My partner had the Bhuna Badami and was equally impressed. Very friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to go back next time I am near Kelso.

Great meal. Big portions and very good service.

Went for takeaway and was told 25 mins. Asked if they were certain an was then told 45 mins and if we left a mobile number they would call us when the takeaway was ready. We went to a local pub and when we did not get a call returned after 1hour. On our return we were then told it would be another 15 min. In the end it took 2 hours. In addition we saw other people giving up on waiting’s ant it was obvious that orders were being misplaced as the staff were constantly searching through the bags waiting for collection. Also the place was cold due to the door constantly opening and the customers were all keeping on their coats at the tables. The final insult was that as the takeaway was brought over he asked for cash. He eventually relented and allowed payment via the card machine. The meal was good, but there are now three families who will not be returning.

Food very good. Service a bit slow. Heating was on but front door opening & closing caused cold draughts.

Recently moved into the area and have been looking for decent takeaway spots. I waited a bit longer than I was told, but they were very busy (for good reason!). Absolutely awesome. Thank you. Friendly staff, delicious food.

Me and my daughter had an amazing experience here,we were made to feel so welcome. Facilities were immaculate,the food was another level and the staff were just fantastic. I Would highly recommend this gem.

Was delivered in a timely manner. It was very expensive and I had 5 small pieces of chicken in my meal 1 of which was grizzley and put me off. Will be a while before I eat here again 😪

Wow omg the food so delicious. Never been to a good indians until now. The chicken tikka bazzinga 😘❤️it has my heart. How does one make chicken taste so angelic. Deffo my favourite place. Taking my girlies out next time here. The service is wonders, i get treated like a queen at tea when im here. Im thankful for that young man who treated my elderly aunt with the highest level of respect. In conclusion the food here is suberbulous. I reccomend

On my return from karachi my daughter took me here . The food tastes just like my great grandmother cooking . My daughter was right about the nostalgic experience. When my visa next gets renewed I shall be back .The king prawn macconi and biryani are just something else . I can't believe a taste of home country exists so local to my daughter . If she doesn't have my home cooked food this is just as good . The service was immaculate and the young man behind the counter was so quirky and nice. The workers were so respectful and treated me as if I was there mum. Beautiful food I love it 😀

Since i migrated to this country it it has been difficult to find good quality Indian food but my first time tasting food from here gives me childhood nostalgia of my childhood in Mumbai. Everything was so perfectly spiced and the service here was truly incredible. The staff were so friendly and made me feel so comfortable they reminded me of my family back home. I recommend the king prawn makonii although it is a bit pricey its the best best there is, absolute perfection. This is truly a taste of home. Thank you for welcoming me I cant wait to come back when my parents come back from Karachi I guarantee shall be back. 10/10 expereince.

From the moment we walked into the restaurant we were looked after. The waiter heled our elderly parents to chose a dish and explain what the flavours were. To assist the other four members of our party of seasoned Indian meal lovers anything new we had seen on the menu. The main dishes,rice and side dishes were excellent and fresh and so tasty,and we all agreed exceeded our expectations. The restaurant was immaculately clean and the staff were very attentive throughout the meal. Well done "Sultans of Kelso"

Warm friendly atmosphere in this place.

Very good quality food, clearly prepared by a chef who know's what they are doing ! The surroundings are not the most fancy but the staff were superb and the choice from the menu impressive. Good portion size and very nicely spiced. Don't forget to bring your own booze as they have no drinks licence...

"Greeted" and I use those words loosely! by a male member of staff, not a warm welcome and it made us feel rather uncomfortable....I understand some people are quiet but this was verging on ignorant. Coffee was nice, toasted sandwich was average and the price didn't reflect the quality. I wouldnt go back again as feel the cafe is perhaps for its regulars who may be treated with a warmer welcome.

Food was excellent, very tasty and spicy. Service was good, even though there had been an issue with the online booking. Restaurant is unlicensed, so only soft drinks available.

Decided on a last minute takeaway and after asking a friend if Sultons of Kelso was any good I was told yes. Well I was not disappointed in the slightest. Friendly telephone manner. Fast delivery with a friendly driver and the food is top class. We had the korma and masala along with a few extras. Will recommend to anyone. Will be back for sure

We have visited Kelso many times, but this was our first visit to Seasons. Warm welcome, excellent coffee and cherry square. We will be back

June 2021. Went early in the evening for a first visit and asked the owner to let the chef give us his favourite or signature dishes. After a few questions he went away and proceeded to ply us with great great northern . Starter sharing plate (not on the menu) that the staff often eat was fabulous, with a beautiful tikka marinaded crisped paneer like fried halumi or tofu that was unusual and really top stuff that I will seek out again. Freshly prepared with organic vegetables, both of which are key drivers for the Sultans. The mains were again top stuff with things found in Bengal but not often found on your average Indian restaurant menu (I'm quite bored of anglisised Indian so it was good to be offered something a bit more authentic). Owner-waiter offered great service and explanations when we asked about the ingredients and cooking techniques. These Sultans care about their product. They've only been open a few months and I hear that their good reputation is building rapidly. We'll make a wide detour to Kelso when next in the borders just to eat again at the Sultans of Kelso. I hear Mark Knopfler eats here too.

Absolutely beautiful food... I had Tandoori Butter Chicken and hubby had Lamb Tikka, with Bombay Aloo. Lovely spiced and creamy sauce and portion sizes were just the right amounts. The staff were polite, attentive and courteous. Great experience 👍

Called to place an order for a takeaway whilst visiting Kelso but hadn't realised we were calling prior to opening hours, the restaurant was very accommodating and took our order. Both starters and mains were delicious, will certainly return when back in the area.

I had a delivery, very helpful staff. The food arrived a bit too soon, which worried me. The chilly prawn starter was just mush, I expected/hoped for crispy prawns but it was just tiny prawns in liquid. Too hot!!! The onion rice again was sloppy. the lamb was tough and chewy.☹️. Bombay potatoes were nice. Disappointed, my first food delivery since moving here from Edinburgh. Sorry, I had high hopes. Maybe it's better if you visit the restaurant.

This lovely little place we just came across in kelso. Indian food for lunch and it was delicious really delicious! We will definitely be back . Had a lovely experience, staff lovely and food delicious dont miss out!

Had breakfast here on our fist morning in Kelso, was one of the few places open. Nice vibe to the place with lots of charity promotions and local whatson information. May it was because it had only just opened but was on the chill side. The selection for breakfast was not wide. OK but nothing special, though it is open earlier than most other places for coffee.

Had a nice wee walk round the town with a fair in the square, if you pardon the pun Topped off with a nice shoulder barge through the door at seasons only to nearly skittle the wreath on the door, however the boy with the long fingers made a stupendable hot chocolate 9.8/10 would recommend kiss Love from your best friend D-train

My husband and I went for lunch with the dogs. The look we got from the man behind the counter....well if looks could kill!! I ordered toasties, the ham and tomato one had one slice of ham on it. The salad was good though. The young girl and the woman were friendly, but I never once got a thank you or a smile from the man. He's certainly put us of going back.

I enjoyed my visit, I'm sure it had newspapers available to read, and was cosy, clean and a friendly establishment, and was actually quite full when we went and that was midweek - so perhaps an indication that it is a popular eatery and one people happily attend.

The locals seem to visit here so it must be good. The Cheese Scones & Fruit Scones were good however, we are really trying to find a really good plain Scottish scone with Jam & Fresh Cream. The staff were really friendly & coffee was good. Would recommend when in Kelso.

We came in here twice during our week staying just outside Kelso. The coffee and hot chocolate is lovely. The staff are welcoming and friendly too. There’s a lovely atmosphere and the sweet treats are also fab. I loved the mini chocolates, just right with a coffee! You can buy greetings cards and other assorted items along with a read and swap bookshelf which is a fab idea. Great coffee, good service. Definitely worth visiting.

Went to KELSO intending to visit one of my all-time favourite places FLOORS CASTLE and especially the Garden Restaurant tea room coffee shop which is a Lovely place in an Epic setting . However , whilst passing through Beautiful Kelso I glimpsed sight of an interesting Coffee Shop but kept on going up to Floors. After a very pleasant and enjoyable run through to the Castle I decided to return to SEASONS COFFEE SHOP for another look . A small , informal and cosy place set on a cobbled lane just off the centre of Kelso , SEASONS turned out to be a Great Discovery and a place to come back to . THE COFFEE WAS GREAT and the Welcome WARM . Nice People . We had Two coffees for good measure and phoned a friend to come-see Too . Great atmosphere with a great mix of all types of people brought a Lifetime of memories flooding back to me of far-away places , SEASONS is a Special place . We cannot wait to go back there . I was in Kelso this morning on business and after and early start need a coffe to revive me. After wandering around the Town Square I came upon Seasons, which is on a street just off it. Initially I was only going to order a coffee but on seeing the massive Empire Biscuits, I could resist as the are my favourite. I managed to find a table and was quickly served by a friendly member of staff. My coffee was lovely and my Empire Biscuit was fantastic. I finished off with a quick visit to a nice clean toilet. I would definitely visit Seasons if I find myself back in Kelso.

Friendly and helpful delivers if ask nicely! Not many tables for sitting in but well supported both local customers as regular haunt and visitors with quaint premises.

A crisp cold day in Kelso and desperate for somewhere warn to eat lunch but we have dogs. No problem we were welcome here. We had all day breakfast and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone was cheerful and friendly and we tried a selection of chocolates. The mince pies chocolates were our favourite.

Great coffee every time thanks Seasons...... I will be back. Free internet as well which was a bonus.

Sin duda el mejor café de Kelso. Me encanta este pequeño café - no sólo es el café realmente bueno también hacer comidas que son geniales. Un personal amable que siempre te hacen sentir bienvenido y también tienen un muy buen rango de tarjetas, chocolates y otras cosas.

La intención de este sitio por un rato, ya que las críticas fueron favorables. Así aparecimos ayer para tomar un café y un pastel. El café era bueno, pero el servicio no alcanza. No creo que nadie vio una bienvenida o cualquier alegre smilely bromas que hacen que los clientes quieran volver. El caballero que sirve las necesidades de alentar un poco.

A `cracking` cup of coffee (espresso) and good selection of cakes for the weary cyclists among you. Small, friendly and welcoming. Just off the Square (in all senses) it is a good place to sit outside and watch the world go by!
