Just returned from a wonderful family reunion at Kingsknowes. Had a fantastic time. The venue is ideal, with very comfortable rooms that have so much more space and character than an average hotel, with lovely views. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The grounds are beautiful and yet have goal posts for a classic family game of football. The food - breakfast - amazing, lunch- outstanding and our light dinner was so good we all over indulged. Cannot recommend it enough for such an event it was ideal. Thank you so much.

Had an excellent week at the Kingsknowes meeting with family and friends. The staff could not have been any more helpful from our first enquiry, arrival, during our stay and to our departure. The rooms were wonderful, comfortable beds, excellent shower, food was plentiful and of excellent standard, catering for two of our group who were gluten and dairy free with no problems. All in all a 5* stay and I'd recommend.

Well the food was average service average also! As for there cocktails they have to be the worst I have ever had! Mine and my partners were shocking! Basically the size of a shot! And the taste of mine was awful! Would think the staff had half of the drink before it arrived!

This was our first visit to this wonderful hotel. A very warm welcome on arrival from the staff. We booked lunch for a 80th Birthday celebration and we could not have chosen better. All the staff were friendly and efficient even the owners attended to us. There was five of us and four different meals were chosen, everyone was delighted with, the quality and presentation of the food. One had fish platter, two chose the steak and ale pie, the other two had a pork Thai curry and chicken coujons. All food was delicious. Desserts followed, again presentation was impressive. We then had coffees and a waitress presented our cousin with a birthday cake we had taken with us. We are considering booking a stay to see the rest of this very comfortable and interesting hotel. Our grateful thanks to all staff for making our cousins 80th a very special memory.

We stayed twice in the past and going back again tomorrow- it says it all! Absolutely stunning location, beautiful gardens, peaceful atmosphere, baronial architecture. Great for exploring beautiful Scottish Borders. Easy parking is a bonus. Room 14 is simply gorgeous- very spacious with traditional features, and an amazing picture window. We had a delicious breakfast, the service and food were both fantastic. Special thank you to amazing, friendly, attentive staff-service and cleanliness were second to none. Housekeeping ladies-you are the best- rooms are spotless, and you are the friendliest bunch! We were almost late for breakfast, however lovely Kasia and Shiona made us feel so welcome and we received the best service. Can’t wait for another relaxing weekend in this unique hotel.

What a treat. This is a beautiful building with lots of original features including the staircase, grand entrance and amazing conservatory including its own vine and the gardens are well kept and lovely. The staff were attentive and couldn’t do enough especially Shona and a Polish lady who sadly I have forgotten her name. The food was simple but good. We struggled to find it at first as it lies hidden behind a housing estate, but once inside the grounds you wouldn’t know it was there. Property would really benefit from a lift but as it’s a listed building I don’t think this is possible. Although I really enjoyed it I am not sure I would be able to visit again as the stairs although very grand were difficult for me as I have mobility issues. Overall a lovely place and great staff and would recommend to anyone who is able bodied.

The hotel is a beautiful old Scottish baronial house close to the banks of the Tweed. The interior decoration is a little old fashioned, but that may be deliberate. However I think it could be transformed into something extraordinary by some interior design flair and redecoration. There are signs that some tlc is needed - the leather banquette seats in the front bar are patched, but badly so. I’m all in favour of retaining good leatherwork, but at least get a proper professional repair done - the current very poor attempt looks amateurish and bad. The welcome and service were excellent, although the bar staff clearly nee a little more training. “What wines do you have?” Answer “We have red and white”. We dined in one night. The meal was fine but I would class it as average bar food really. Dinner was served in the lounge bar, and the route from the main hall area of the hotel takes you down a long dingy corridor past a series of stores and kitchen areas - we thought we had taken a wrong turning, but we hadn’t. I’m guessing there isn’t a better means of access in an old building like this, but at least make the corridor a bit brighter and less dingy. Overall, it’s probably the best hotel in Galashiels, but it could be so much better with a little flair and attention. For an excellent meal, if yo7 decide to go out, try Provender just 5 minutes down the road in Melrose. It’s excellent.

Sorry that we only had a brief stay here - arrived late in the evening, and despite the kitchen being closed they made us some lovely sandwiches and soup, washed down with a well required whiskey. Very comfortable nights sleep, view across the Tweed to Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott, and quite possibly the quietest hotel room we have ever stayed in! Had the full Scottish breakfast the next morning which was so good, and did defeat us both, and then headed off. The staff were all so friendly and helpful and made it a great, if short, stay. Thanks

Had lunch here yesterday - booked at last minute and got a table for 6 adults and 1 infant. Service was fine and food lovely. Only problem we had was that we were seated with 3 adults each side of table and highchair for baby at end of said table. When the waitress brought the food the plates were put down on table right next to baby who put her hands down and the plate was piping hot..NO word of warning and as said plate in front of baby!!!! She screamed as her hands were burnt on hot plate. My daughter in law had to take the wee one out as she was very upset!!! We asked for the food to be kept hot which it was and as baby and mum had gone home we collected after our meal. The waitress did later ask how the baby was and her answer was...'shame..you never know how far they can reach' Fact was baby did not have to stretch as plate was right in front of her!!! On that note please plan carefully when arranging seating for families!!!

Greeting on arrival at 1.30 was “the kitchen closes in 20mins” . No hello or even did we want to eat. Did stay for lunch but felt we were in the way and an inconvenience. Only a couple of other tables occupied in a cold lounge bar. Waitress brought crockery to table holding by the knife and fork eating ends!!!! Ham salad was exactly same as side salad on other meal, just very slightly bigger with two slices of not great ham. Almost comical. Had not been in few years and won’t be rushing back anytime soon.

We enjoyed supper at this venue on two nights during our stay in Selkirk..the food was outstanding on the first evening; we just had to go back! The meal was served at comfortable, well spaced tables in the attractive modern decor of the hotel bar; expecting a pub supper, we had no great aspirations but food from both the main menu and the 'specials' menu was beyond our expectations. Attractively plated, prepared with care and just delicious. Service was prompt and attentive from two young chatty, but not over the top, waitresses and we all felt the meal was value for money. We went last night for tea/supper. I had a beef cake with poached egg, the egg was rock hard and pretty cold over all disappointed with the starter as was £6.50 probably not worth it. Main I chose Scampi asked to have with salad and was told it came with salad but actually it was mainly half plate of peas and a tiny little salad, The chips were over cooked the skinny kind so really couldn't eat them. Had to ask for Tartar sauce this does not come as standard or I certainly never got any. We got offered the sweet menu when our mains got cleared however 30 mins later we had to go to the bar and ask for it , The pudding that ur party member chose to be fair looked amazing and Im told tasted amazing and she certainly enjoyed it so id probably recommend the sweets. The was really lovely bright and clean all refurbed we had a lovely comfortable table and actually really enjoyed our visit. I just feel bar suppers are so easy and should be perfect after all it was average of around £25 per head for 1 starter and a simple main. so not cheap.

Five adults went for lunch on Sunday 25th February. Had issues with booking. Arrived for our booking at one o'clock and seated without issue. Waited for about ten minutes before drink order was taken and we were told there was a shortage of menus. The menus were printed on an A4 sheet of paper, could they not have photocopied some? We then waited another fifteen minutes before drinks and menus were served and a further twenty minutes for our starters. After one hour twenty minutes we asked a waitress where our main courses were, only to be told they were very busy with two functions, and we would be served as soon as possible. The waitress did apologise for the delay, however, the fact that they and two functions on was not my problem. If they are unable to cope with two functions and a full lunch time compliment of customers, they need to rethink their booking system. As people who arrived after us were served and left before us, I suspect they forgot about our order. When the bill was paid we were asked if we wanted change!! No compensation we offered, so it maybe some time before we return.

Eight of us had a very good evening meal in the old stables bar area. Good food in very comfortable surroundings which have been recently decorated.Staff were helpful, friendly but not too invasive and we will definitely return. This is one of the best restaurant/hotels in Galashiels.

Great meal, friendly staff and all for a reasonable price! Some of the reviews claim the food is slow or over priced. Rubbish! Its fresh cooked to order food, the prices reflect this and you have to wait for fresh cooked food!

I got a gift voucher as a present so I finally got round to using it even though it is right on my doorstep! I am so glad I went, best meal I have had for a long time.

We have used this place a couple of times and been very satisfied on each occasion. We took lunch one day and dinner on a separate visit. Staff were great and the food was good.

We booked a room at the hotel for a family event in April. The staff were very helpful and accommodating on the day. We ordered some light refreshments (sandwiches, sausage rolls, shortbread and meringues) - these were well presented and very tasty. The room itself was good, with plenty of room, tables, chairs, etc. The hotel itself was very pleasant and set in nice grounds.

The bar/restaurant had been redesigned since our last visit, and is a huge improvement, light and airy, but still with a Scottish feel. Staff were very welcoming and found us a table even though we hadn't booked (but we were there early at 12.00, by 1.00 the tables were full). The food was excellent, with the Roast Beef particularly good, there are too many tough or tasteless Sunday roast beef meals about, and this was neither! The deserts were a good choice, and all in all we were more than happy, and will return in future.

After a difficult time cremating mum the Kingsknowe staff were very warm and welcoming on our arrival even though we were early, our party were in the wonderful and iconic conservatory. The staff made sure that everyone was well furnished with tea and coffee's and there was definately plenty of great quality sandwiches, delicious sausage rolls and lovely homemade shortbread biscuits. I can not recommend it highly enough and look forward to returning for a family meal in the future

Food was good. We were on a post Christmas night out but quite expensive for what it was but was ok. We weren't in the restaurant but in the bar food area. Think for bar foodwas quite over priced

This was our fourth visit this year, and included lunch from the christmas menu. Every time we've been here we have consistently experienced lovely clean surroundings in a stunning building, attention to detail, friendly staff who are always immaculately turned out, great hospitality and delicious food. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, nothing was too much trouble, and our compliments to the chef who provided a varied menu using good quality food, and beautifully presented. The costs for the room hire, refreshments and meals were more than reasonable - top class food and experience for mid-range price, great value! Highly recommended.

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

A weekend away in the Scottish Borders led to us unexpectedly finding this wonderful restaurant in the Yarrow Valley today. It was one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in years (delicious local beef and pork) and a seriously tempting menu focussed around local ingredients by Bryn Jones. The honey cake for dessert by @she.likesbaking was also incredible and I’ve only just realised that Oxana Jones is not only a wonderful front-of-house host, but also an extremely talented baker. Thank you to your team, it was a memorable lunch and we’ll definitely be back for one of your tasting menus and an overnight stay.

Great little cafe. Excellent bacon, sausage, and egg role for the price. Coffee was ok. Opens early.
