We booked a table at the Gordon Arms after having it strongly recommended by several local people. We were made very welcome from the minute we arrived and shown to a lovely quiet table in the corner. The drinks and food were excellent, as good as any restaurant we have ever been to across Europe, and all the staff were very efficient and pleasant. The menu was excellent and gave a lot of choice. Local produce was used as much as possible which we like. The restaurant was pleasantly warm and the music perfect and discrete. The lighting was just right, not too bright, not too dim. The tables were far enough apart not to be unable to hear each other as can sometimes happen. The bill was a little less than we would have expected, given the quality of the meal. We shall definitely be back, and look forward to having lunch with friends on the back balcony in the warmer weather.

We recently moved to the area and had been recommended here by many, so thought we would try it out and potentially find our ‘new eatery’. We visited the hotel this evening, as a party of 4, we hadn’t booked and the only table left at the time was a low table with sofas either side, in the bar. Not ideal for eating but we accepted the table as we knew they were busy and hadn’t booked- this wasn’t a problem. Our meal couldn’t be faulted, but unfortunately the service level didn’t match. 2 of our party were having drinks with their meal, as well as ordering drinks after the meal, or so we had planned. We ordered another round, before being asked if we wanted dessert. Declining this, our bill came quickly after, card machine in hand. Caught a little off guard we payed the bill for the meal and drinks, baring in mind the 2 drinks had just arrived. Our table was constantly being cleared of glasses during this time, including the water we were still drinking, leaving the 2 drinks our party had just received. The lady, who I presume is the manager or owner, continuously walked back and forth past the table, giving the impression they wanted the table. We had not even taken a sip from the drinks! There was another couple standing close to the table who were obviously waiting for it, this lady then said quite loudly ‘these people are leaving, then you can have the table’. At this point the lady set 2 menus on the table in front of us, before standing back staring at us. We have never been made to feel more uncomfortable in a business! We were only in the bar for a little over one hour, if the business had needed the table sooner than we were going to be finished we would have preferred to be declined as a customer than be rushed and treated the way we were. After this experience the Gordon Arms won’t be our new local!

We were staying close by and hadn’t booked but the lovely lady said we could have the corner barrel table. We chose our food and before it arrived, the same lady asked if we would like to move to a bigger (now vacant) table which we did. We had game pie, steak pie and burger. The portions were proper size pub food and tasted delicious. Extras on top of the burger were included in the price which was a really nice touch. Despite all the tasty food we managed room for pudding, toblerone cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and rhubarb creme brûlée, yummy! We left very full and very content. A great pub, wish we lived closer.

I stay locally but don’t go here very often as I am not really a “pub” person. In the 20 years of living in the area this is the only pub in West Linton to have stood the test of time which is a good sign itself though it has been in a number of different hands.Anyhow myself and a friend decided to give it a try. I phoned the day before to see if I needed to book a table and indicated we would be happy to eat in the bar though when we did turn up we were seated in their restaurant. The bar itself was quite cosy and lively with locals with a selection of seating including sofas.Initially the restaurant was quiet but it soon filled up so the booking was a good idea. The menu had a reasonable selection of pub grub and their burgers were very popular. I opted for a starter from their specials board, the squid. I have to say this was excellent, beautiful soft melt in the mouth without any hint of chewiness. Possibly the best cooked squid that I have had. My friend had the haggis balls which were also very good. For a main I went for the macaroni cheese, I am going through a macaroni phase at the moment. This was also very good and with a tasty cheese crust. Almost as good as I make myself. At under £10 it was also good value for money.A reasonable selection of wines with a couple of bottles to choose from that were less than £15.Overall a very good evening. Most of the times that I have been here before was to eat something on the way home when I don’t have time to cook. I will continue to do that but the place is good enough to make a trip to for a night out as well.

We stayed in West Linton for four days and ate (oh, and drank) at the Gordon Arms several times. I don't know what the hotel is like (we stayed someplace else) but the restaurant and the bar are great!Their collection of dishes is pretty varied and several of them are interesting in some way. I had the gammon stake once and it was delicious; had the "hot as cluck" burger and man, when they say it's hot, it's *hot*. The beer isn't bad, either. The people on the staff are very nice, too. We had a bunch of questions about a bunch of things on (and off) the menu -- about the food, about the gin, about pub etiquette in Scotland. Everyone was very nice to us and very patient. I have nothing but good words to say about this place.

We had the macaroni cheese which was lovely and chips with their skins on, along with a refreshing drink. It was all cooked fresh and the portions were generous. The service was friendly and efficient and the prices reflected the good value. The hotel itself seemed a bit tired bit we'd rather that with good food than a fancy, overpriced place with awful service and attitude. Next time we're in that area, we'll just head back to this hotel for lunch or dinner. Help them to stay open by stopping there for your meals. 2 Happy customers !!!.

The new owners seem to be born to the pub trade and really knew their stuff. Whilst already a lovely place, they told us about their plans to improve the physical fabric of the place, which all sounded great (so watch that space as the months go by). Meanwhile, we all enjoyed superb pub food. Personal recommendation is the spicy prawn starter - crisp, crunchy coating, perfectly cooked and a good kick! The mains were fantastic too. I was in West Linton for work and there isn't a lot of choice so I ended up here. The bar was doing a decent trade for a weekday (particularly given the Whipman festivities in town) with a good number of locals drinking and bantering. I had a few pints of decent local ale and the homemade venison burger. It was certainly homemade and pretty much 100% venison, which whilst it did make it a tiny bit dry, was reassuring to see. The pub continued to fill up during the evening and it had the feel of a very decent local pub!

Steak and ale pie - -a traditional pub dish. The portion was small - not much meat and a lot of gloupy gravy. It was served with frozen vegetables - peas and carrots - which were pretty tastless and boiled new potatoes which has been minted. Sorry but the mint flavour just does not go with steak and ale pie! Service was slow - too slow at about a twenty minute wait for the starter and another twenty minutes between courses.

Went here with a large group of girls, we had to pre-order a few days before what we would like to eat.....and we had a two hour window as another party was in after usMMM it was as if it had all been cooked ready waiting on us on arrival. Starters virtually came out as soon as I had parked my butt! Bruschetta with roasted veg and feta - burnt, dry and tasteless.........i then had the chicken parmigiana - it was like deja vu, dry, dry dry, apart from the little bit of salad. other girls said same of their choice, although I do believe the steak pie was nice. I honestly felt that it had been pre-cooked ready to quickly reheat and serve. We spent alot alot of money that night on booze and our two courses was £14.00 - not worth this.....shame staff were nice. Funny quote from one of the staff when I mentioned my burnt bruschetta was she could make get me another but that was from same 'batch' and would be same! Or I could wait and get one 'freshly made' but that she was aware our mains were ready! Ready we were still eating our starters.....disappointing wont be back sorry

This is I nice friendly pub, but oh the food is poor. Mostly cook-chill and where it's freshly made its poor. Ordered steak which came near raw and was sent back, I got the same steak returned (which I had taken a bite out of) and it was like shoe leather. Very poor, which is a shame because it's a really nice pub

This is a great Pub/Hotel with lots of history including numerous tenants that never seem to stay long. However I hope the current tenants stay as my Aunt and I were treated to the best "pub" meal we have ever had and such fantastic value especially after the terrible previous evening spent at The Old Bakehouse.

Stopped here for lunch to break a long journey. Off street parking a bonus. The lounge bar was clean although a bit dated. Really good menu selection for both adults and children. Food was fine, served fairly quickly and the staff were very pleasant. On the down side, when my husband took our grandchildren to the gents, the language from the adjacent "sitooterie" was totally unacceptable. Perhaps a bit of soundproofing required.

Group of 8 stopped in for a pint and lunch and were not disappointed. Good sized bar area with an outdoor area and separate restaurant. Good selection of ales and a varied(and reasonably priced) menu that should cater to all. Food was served reasonably promptly and was very good. Would certainly return if back in the area.

We dropped in for a meal and a few drinks on a Saturday night - the place was surprisingly not full. The meal and service were fine and the staff helpful and attentive. The food arrived promptly and was tasty and sufficient for the 2 of us. Pricing was probably a little above average but not expensive. If in the area its is worth a meal.

We have not been to the Gordon for a while as the last experience (about 18 months ago) was not fab. Two weeks ago I went with a large group and we had a lovely night. Essentially its great bar food but in a restaurant surrounding, I love bar suppers but balancing food on a tiny drinking table is not fun, so the Gordon gives you the best of both worlds. Since we had a such a good night my husband, sister and I went back on Wednesday. The waitress was lovely and smiley and whilst there for us, not in our face. We had starters and mains. My husbands haddock goujons were to die for; the batter was light and crispy and the fish lovely. My spring rolls were good and my sister enjoyed her mozzaralla sticks. Mains were; Burger (I complicated order, no bun, onion rings instead of chips and cheese and bacon, but it all came as asked), steak pie for sister and Fajitas for husband. All was great, my rings were a wee bit overdone but still edible. Sister and husband cleared their plates. Followed up with coffee and shortbread, the coffee was just fabulous; I am a fussy coffee drinker! My house wine was great and they had Bombay Sapphire Gin so worked for me too! Lovely night with good service in a friendly surrounding. Was a bit quiet so would be good to see it getting busy.

Freshly prepared, well presented food served by friendly attentive staff. Good prices for the quality, and my hubby can get a decent ale! Busy on a Tuesday night so they are obviously getting it right. Thank you.

We eat here regularly, the new menu provides a great choice for all tastes. Service is good, and the choice of drinks to have with your meal is what you would expect at a pub, along with a regularly changed guest beer or two (and a good wine list). If you’re lucky you might visit when the locally brewed (Peebles) Allsorts Beer is on, but this does sell out quickly! The Red Thai curry main course is particularly good (albeit hot!), and I’d recommend the haddock or the chicken goujons from the extensive starters selection. Deserts vary in choice, but the cheesecake is particularly good if available.

Having just moved into the area, we were looking for somewhere to have a nice lunch with some friends not too far from home.We came across the Gordon Arms and had an evening meal and some drinks and whilst the menu is somewhat basic, the food itself was pretty decent. The service was friendly however it took a very long time the food to arrive and as we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, that was somewhat disappointing. The food was ok, typical pub fare and what we had we enjoyed but I wouldn't say it was anything remarkable and from the somewhat basic menu we all had something different. The soup was pretty good, I had the Steak Pie which was above average I would say, my wife had the Mac and Cheese and she said it was service station quality and was not amused. The other two meals consisted of overcooked Chicken for the fajitas and a rather small portion of what seemed frozen Scampi. All in all we left feeling that the food let the place down as it seemed a nice place in a good country setting with friendly staff.Overall disappointed but would give it a second chance.

Been here a few times and have reviewed before. Was in the other night and pleased to see a new and more varied menu. The food has always been good and now there is a better choice. I always find the staff welcoming and friendly. Ollie our Golden Retriever is allowed in the bar and gets a bowl of water. Very thoughtful management and staff!

There's nothing flash on the menu but the food is good and reasonably priced. Portion sizes generally are on the hearty side so I tend not to order the larger portion option. Made the mistake of doing this one day and ended up with two pieces of fish and enough chips to play roulette with. As well as full meals they do pizzas, ciabatta, sandwiches and burgers. Have eaten here on several occasions now as I'm in the area on business once a week and have not been disappointed so far. The bar has a real fire, is warm and welcoming and serves several real ales as well as a couple of lagers. The accommodation is rather basic, but I have only stopped here once.

Hi everyone,I ate at this establishment on Sunday 8th of September 2013 after a recommendation from a local B&B.Oh, how disappointed I was, to start with the service was atrocious (and that's me being kind), and the food was totally minging, it was I can honestly say the worst meal I have ever eaten anywhere in the world!!I complained to the Auld waitress (possibly manageress) about the food, and to my astonishment she said she would reflect my experience in the bill......., well she did, she gave me a pound off, £1.00 off the bill.I took this as an insult and told her that.Whilst I was their, another few people were complaining of the food and service issues, so, what is going on??, you are in one of the nicest parts of Scotland, people are recommending you and you serve up crap with service that can only be described as backwards..I told the owners of the B&B that I was staying in about it and by the morning they had already told their neighbours, a pound off.............. At least the Auld Yin smiled, I suppose it's something!Avoid at all costs, you have been warned......

Out for a Sunday run yesterday and went in for lunch. Very friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Had three course lunch with tea and coffee. Husband's soup was not as hot as he would have likes, but no problem they heated it up, so he burned his mouth!!! Serves him right, ha! ha! I had haggis parcel, which was huge, did not expect it to be so much. Had fish and chips and glad I ordered small portion, then cheese cake, which was delicious. All in all a very good meal. We were the only people in the dining room, but the bar was packed out and the young lady was running back and forward non stop with food, which was a good sign. Very reasonable prices and delicious food with friendly and helpful staff, you could not ask for more.

We have eaten at the Gordon several times over the years and would give it 5*, as all meals could not be faulted. However, tried the take-away and you get children size portions, i.e. fish and chips £7.50 and you get 1/2 a fish and a handful of chips. Pretty embarrassing and very mean. No more carry out's there.

We are think of moving to this area and wanted to try local hotels to see what they had to offer. The Gordon Arms met and exceeded our expectations. A warm friendly bar where our dog was welcome. Delicious soup served quickly and at very reasonable cost. If we do move to this area I can see us becoming very regular customers here and we look forward to sampling more of the menu.
