Disappointing in part I had high hopes for these chicken wings, but unfortunately, they fell short of expectations. At over £10 for just 12 wings, they were dry and overcooked, leaving me regretting the purchase. The menu stated they were served on a "bed of salad," but in reality, I could barely spot more than a few limp lettuce leaves. My partner had the chicken goujons and unfortunately shared the same experience—dry and overcooked, with no redeeming qualities. On a positive note, the Sunday roasts my friends ordered seemed to be a much better choice. They appeared well-prepared, generously portioned, and my friends genuinely enjoyed their meals. It gave the impression that if you don’t order a roast on a Sunday, your meal might not receive the same level of care and attention. Overall, while the roasts seemed to be a highlight, our experience with the non-roast menu items was underwhelming. I won’t be rushing back for wings or goujons anytime soon.

I read the reviews here before we went on holiday. Everything looked good, but. We pre booked a table for the Sunday, when we arrived we were taken to our seat and ordered drinks. We picked what we wanted and eventually someone came to take it. 30 mins later still waiting, when the order came it was barely hot. Asked for the sweet menu, we gave up waiting and left. Something going on in the other room lots of customers so whether this was the issue I don't know.

First time customers today. We'd travelled to Melrose for a day out and wanted some food. Looking at the reviews, we chose this place, so pleased we did! First of all, staff - they were all very friendly, pleasant and welcoming. Service, excellent, very quick and efficient. Food, amazing, it was fresh, hot, tasty and full of flavour and good portion sizes. We ordered a starter and a main each (and a 3rd starter as a wild card as we'd never had Haggis before) and between us we had 2 pints of lager and a pint of coke. In total we spent £60 and it was well worth it. Cost wise, very reasonable. Quality of food 10/10. Staff 10/10. Atmosphere 10/10. Would definitely go back if we're ever in the area again.

While staying at the Waverley Castle Hotel in Melrose, during a coach tour with my older sister for the Edinburgh Tatoo, we decided on our free day to walk into Melrose Village, approximately a 25min stroll away. While there we came across (what we thought was a pretty looking SMALL pub) . Yes, it's very pretty, but once you go through the lovely old pub, you can walk into this FANTASTIC outdoor area at the rear, which is partily covered to protect you from the weather. It's spotlessly clean, bright, and full of baskets of flowers 💐. With a TV in each booth area. My sister ordered off the Seniors Specials (these are served noon to 4pm) half a fish, chips, peas & Tartar sauce with a drink and a starter for £9.95. The portion was more like a full-size fish. My sister said it was flipping delicious best meal she'd had all week. Thin batter and a thick piece of fish with lovely home made chips. I had the Calzone which was loaded with lots of lovely ham, mozzarella and salsa, with a nice thin pizza pastry around it. I then had the 3 Dough Finger dippers dusted with icing sugar & cinnamon, these come with a toffee sauce dip & a nuttella dip. These were homemade 😋 nice an hot and about 6 inches long each. They were so good. I finished off with a Lattee coffee and a pot of tea for my sister. The guy that served us was great, well mannered, attentive and pokite with a lovely smile. The rest of the staff, wete all lovely. The food was great and a very, very reasonable price. Plus, they have a good children's menu and not just your normal things either. Gosh, I wish we had something like this where I live. It's definitely worth a 5 star review. If you're passing or having a stroll around Melrose, you really need to visit.

Great food and service. It’s way too easy for a pub to serve ‘standard’ food, and all 7 of us said our choices were much better than ‘standard’ - staff knew the food and drinks menu well, something that for drinks, often ends up with someone going to the bar to check what draught options are available. Dog friendly and extremely well priced for the quality.

Service was terrible, arrived around 6pm on Thursday evening, ordered a drink, and found a booth in the beer garden to watch the tennis. After about half an hour we asked the waitress if we could order some food, she told us the kitchen was too busy and they weren't taking any more orders even though all the tables were set with menus and there were only about 4 or 5 tables occupied! We would have left but we really wanted to see the tennis which turned out to be Andy Murray's last match, so it was an important one. I think around 7.30pm I asked a blonde woman who I was directed to as the manger, if the kitchen was accepting orders now, she told me no as they were far too busy. There was only us and another couple in the beer garden (who came in after us and were allowed to order a 2 course meal each as they had pre booked) and it really wasn't too busy inside either. I explained we didn't want anything complicated we'd be happy to share a pizza as we were just really hungry and didnt want to miss the end of the match but she still said no. I do understand when restaurants are short staffed but we weren't asking for much and it was the way she said no, just really abruptly and rudely with absolutely no care for her customers or even an apology. She'd obviously had a bad day and there was some internal issues going on between the kitchen and her but not good management to make the customers aware of this. Not a great idea to set all the tables with menus either if you're not allowed to order from them. Meanwhile when we went back to our booth to watch the end of the tennis match we were siting in a booth where we could see the kitchen and all the kitchen staff laughing and carryying on together probably because they had no more work to do, very strange way to run a business. As we only were only allowed drinks I can't comment on the food, the atmosphere could have been good if it had been busier but as the pics show an empty beer garden, probably something to do with their attitude! Anyway there are plenty of other friendly customer focussed places in Melrose where you can eat well so next time we're passing through we'll be avoiding this place.

Nice inn in the main road in Melrose in the Scottish borders. It's a popular place for eating, so it's best to book ahead or pop in and book. The reason we chose this was that the menu was extensive with plenty of choice. We had the Flame grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, which was full of flavour. They also have a part of the menu for juniors (children). And seniors, which is a 3 course set meal not sure but this may be the equivalent to small plates. Highly recommended, but book before.

Great service and one of the best fish & chips I've had in the UK. The peas actually tasted like peas... ;-) The decor was tasteful and the covered outside seating area looked lovely. The menu had a good selection to choose from.

Nice place with a good atmosphere. Were made feel welcome along with our wee dog.Staff were friendly and service was good even though place was packed. Pub was nice and clean and food was lovely. Large selection of food and drinks. Couldnt fault the place and will be back when visiting the borders again.

A group of 4 of us are on holiday and accidentally came across this pub. So glad we did the food and service was amazing. Dirty fries with the Chinese wings, delicious. We will go back before returning south. Very highly recommended by all of us. Fair prices for a lot of very good fresh cooked food.

Great little cafe. Excellent bacon, sausage, and egg role for the price. Coffee was ok. Opens early.

Don't normally do reviews, and only stopped for a quick coffee and bacon roll, but felt this place really deserves an excellent review. Rare to find a place that does such a decent coffee (cappuccino done properly, in a sensible sized cup not a Costa bucket), the staff were lovely - all of them - and there was a nice stove in the corner on a bitterly cold January morning. Never stopped off here before on an A68 run - will make a habit of it now.

Perfect in every way! Delicious food, gorgeous staff and a cosy stove to relax beside. We've been coming to this beautiful hotel for years and it will always be number one in quality and service.

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Ordered a chicken vindaloo. The chicken was dry, tasteless and hard like it had been precooked 2 weeks in advance, The vindaloo sauce had a very strong taste of cloves which ruined it. And the onion bhajis were rock hard, as though pre made and warmed up for too long in an oven. Apart from that it was a great meal I.e. the pappadums were freshly made.
