I'm absolutely gutted as I came here on my own last year and the Sunday lunch was amazing. I'm back in melrose with my friends and told them we must go to the ship for lunch. Phoned ahead booked a table for th4 of us and the dinner was disgusting!! The food was only warm gravy was like water my friends was disgusted I felt so embarrassed after reccomending this place, we ate most of it as we were starving but I won't go back again for food.😢😢😢 Tinned carrot's and peas really for the amount yous charge.

Was at Melrose today went to Ship Inn for late lunch was so busy inside we had to sit out in the beer garden. Each table has individual heaters above the tables on the side so switched it on and the table area was really warm to sit even though it was a wee bit chilly. Friendly staff stood to chat while placing our order. food arrived and it was really delicious. Would definitely recommend this place and we will go back soon.

Reasonable food which is just as well as the service was really slow. Only one person taking a tables order then putting the order through to the kitchen before doing the same for the next table, then the next one. Not what you would expect.

Tried to eat here with a party of 5 - plenty of tables available - some were reserved. Pub didn't look overly busy. We sat at a non-reserved table. Went up to the bar to be told that they weren't taking any food orders. Cheers! Went to the Kings Arms instead.

The ambience is extremely friendly, this is a very happy place all the staff are young and very friendly and cannot do enough for you. The meals are excellent, over this week we have been there twice every day and both had a different selection each from the menu every day. When we visited Melrose last year we found this pub and enjoyed it so much that I insisted on returning this year to celebrate my eighty seventh birthday. I can recommend the Beer and the selection of wines as well as the meals.

While staying at the Waverley Castle Hotel in Melrose, during a coach tour with my older sister for the Edinburgh Tatoo, we decided on our free day to walk into Melrose Village, approximately a 25min stroll away. While there we came across (what we thought was a pretty looking SMALL pub) . Yes, it's very pretty, but once you go through the lovely old pub, you can walk into this FANTASTIC outdoor area at the rear, which is partily covered to protect you from the weather. It's spotlessly clean, bright, and full of baskets of flowers 💐. With a TV in each booth area. My sister ordered off the Seniors Specials (these are served noon to 4pm) half a fish, chips, peas & Tartar sauce with a drink and a starter for £9.95. The portion was more like a full-size fish. My sister said it was flipping delicious best meal she'd had all week. Thin batter and a thick piece of fish with lovely home made chips. I had the Calzone which was loaded with lots of lovely ham, mozzarella and salsa, with a nice thin pizza pastry around it. I then had the 3 Dough Finger dippers dusted with icing sugar & cinnamon, these come with a toffee sauce dip & a nuttella dip. These were homemade 😋 nice an hot and about 6 inches long each. They were so good. I finished off with a Lattee coffee and a pot of tea for my sister. The guy that served us was great, well mannered, attentive and pokite with a lovely smile. The rest of the staff, wete all lovely. The food was great and a very, very reasonable price. Plus, they have a good children's menu and not just your normal things either. Gosh, I wish we had something like this where I live. It's definitely worth a 5 star review. If you're passing or having a stroll around Melrose, you really need to visit.

The place was quite busy which we expected but we were welcomed and seated no problem. We had our dog and he got a bowl of water when we asked for one. We ordered food which wasn't the best to be honest. There was a lot of it but the fries were very salty and the burger was still very raw in the middle, I left this part and didn't raise it as an issue as I was full by the time I'd got to the uncooked bit. The prices were reasonable but we didnt eat here again during our stay.

We were limited to where we could eat in Melrose as we had the dog with us. Decent pub. Staff were very attentive. Unfortunately couldn't hear a thing due to music whilst dining. Unfortunately our table was by the very large TV screen. My portion of food was so small. (Fish very fresh) But not worth the money I'm afraid. Perhaps I should have asked to pay for the half portion.

What an amazing pub/restaurant the Ship Inn turned out to be. Great staff, fantastic food, and amazing atmosphere. And, top tip; there is a free car park at the back of the Ship Inn...drive past the front, keep left, take turning after 70 odd metres to left towards public car park and once in the car park, take immediate left and drive down short narrow lane to the Ship Inn car park. I say this because we very nearly missed the great experience of this place as we could not find on street parking!

A focused pub experience. Their "outdoor" area (it's outdoor but warm and dry) is also great. The service was good, the food was good solid pub grub and the place was spotlessly clean. Their sticky toffee pudding was sold out which suggests it's prepared fresh and popular among the punters. I was pleased with my choice.

Came in here for drink only initially, but as soon as we got in we were asked if booked for lunch and advised if wanted lunch they could give us a reserved table for a while, until the other patrons arrived which was good of them. I wanted a Bloody Mary but they did not have any tomato juice which I was disappointed about. Opted for wine instead. We decided to have the spicy cream of cauliflower soup, chunky chips portion and ham tomato sandwich to share. For my friend and I the soup we felt was far too thick and not spicy at all so put pepper in it to see if that helped, but my friend could not eat it re the consistency and asked the waiter to take them back. The sandwich was fresh and well made coming with salad and coleslaw. The waiter said he'd tried the soup and for his taste it was fine, but deducted the soups from our bill which was honorable. The front of house was vibrant with young members of friendly staff. Yes I would recommend going there but would ask that they get some tomato juice!

We arrived in good time to watch the rugby, when we entered the bar, we were greeted by an obnoxious floor manager, asking if we wanted drinks or food, I said both if you have a table ? To receive a smarmy reply “I have loads of tables, can’t you see them !!! to then be told “ok go out to the beer garden if you want anything” and he walked away. As a customer I felt I was belittled, I looked at my wife and said let’s go and left. If a proper manager reads my review, then your staff need a talking to, to change their attitude as this guy lost custom. We left and went to the George and Abbotsford, and we’re treated with respect, and the place was great.

Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.

I travel this way, A68, between Newcastle and Edinburgh. Always stop in here, clean and warm. Nice menu, well made. Lots of parking
