Great bacon roll and flat white, tea and scone

We needed to stop for breakfast as we passed through town. I had never heard of a restaurant inside a garden supply store, but it had good reviews so we decided to try it. The Potting Shed was very cute and looked like a little greenhouse. We even bought a few fun items in the store on our way out. We’ve have had quite a few Scottish/English breakfasts on our trip across the UK, this was one of our favorites!

Had a lovely late lunch. Everyone was very friendly and the food was tasty.

Hidden gem in a town with very limited options at the minute. My wife and I are here quite often. In fact my wife should probably have a loyalty card! The staff always being lovely, taking an interest and always making you feel welcome and the food has always been good. Would highly recommend if your looking for somewhere for lunch or go for coffee in Duns. Definitely worth a visit.

Went for breakfast, only got half a sausage, when we asked why we were told that as they were thicker than usual sausages they were only giving half- bit miserable as we go quite often!! Ordered brown toast, got white not for the first time either. Very disappointed!!

Every time I have been here, whether to take away or to dine in, I have had a great experience. The staff are very friendly and the food lovely. They even do gluten free and are aware of cross contamination. As a coeliac I am very happy to recommend this place whether you are local or just passing through Duns.

Hubby and I decided to try this place for breakfast as we on holiday. Not disappointed, we both had a cooked breakfast and it was lovely, hot and fresh. Lovely little cafe and staff very friendly. Thank you 😊

Nice little place food very good and very clean

Visiting my parents in the Scottish Borders, they took me to the Potting Shed for lunch today. It’s situated in Pearsons of Duns garden centre. Dad had fish and chips, Mum and I both had a ploughman’s lunch. It was beautifully presented and delicious. The staff were friendly and the service very good. I really hope to return next time I’m in Duns.

Super service, had an 83rd Birthday Cream tea with an extra Victoria Sponge Cake ordered for the Birthday Boy...all was delicious and the fact that it's so easy with a wheelchair made it easier for all concerned. Thank you 😊😊😊

Called in for a late lunch on Wednesday. Service and staff were excellent. Very clean and bright. The food, a Ploughman's platter and Gammon ham, egg, peas and chips were superb. Would definitely visit again when in the area.

We come to the potting shed twice a week and I was so surprised at this morning event I walked up to counter after standing for 5 mins I said can we sit yes said waitress then 12 mins later I had still not been attended too once again up to counter I asked if we could be served the waitress came over I said how long we had waited and other people had come in after us and were served she said she had not see us I said how long we had waited she then said would I like to leave and go somewhere else which was so rude she then did say sorry for wait but was loud and rude. We did have food but was made to feel uncomfortable

Food is brilliant so is the coffee and tea really relaxing cafe always in the borders area on days off

Food was amazing. Standard of service was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble.

Such a lovely place - front of house were so attentive (never got her name but one lady noticed I'd come in with young kids and brought out colouring paper & crayons - thank you!). Breakfast was excellent value for money + traybake was unreal! Will definitely be back!

Don't normally write reviews but lunch was really excellent. Lentil soup thick and delicious and venison pie fabulous! Even the mash tasted really good. Service also impeccable. Gold star in my opinion!

New to the area we called here for breakfast today. Cafe open from 9 but full breakfast not available until 10. Well worth the wait however. Huge breakfast made with quality produce was delicious. Service excellent and staff very friendly. Indoor and outdoor seating areas available. Scones and traybakes looked appetising too- to be tried on another occasion.

Took my Mum and Dad for lunch today, very busy so I was glad we booked. The food was delicious, we had sthe scampi, fish and the macaroni, all beautifully cooked and very generous portions. Nice that you're able to get a small portion too. Very reasonably priced. we will definitely be back.

Lunchtime visit to the Potting Shed. I had the quiche, Husband the pie and Mum Scampi and Chips. All 3 dishes were very good, with the most delicious crispy chunky chips. Highly recommend the quiche and pie. Generous portions, as none of us had room for dessert. But we did takeaway some of the delicious tray-bakes to have with an afternoon coffee later. Would definitely recommend booking if you want to eat inside at lunchtime. Dogs only allowed at tables outside.

We found this little treasure via trip adviser in the garden centre approx half aile from the town centre. We had super toasties for lunch then a fantastic tray bake and best ever tasted cherry scone for pud. Would definitely return

The place was clean and well kept. The staff were kind, happy and accommodating. The food was brilliant, served hot and even offered small portions on some items which pleased my mum.

We dropped by just before they closed so missed out on their pie menu (!). However, it was airy, clean and not too busy. Had delicious tray bakes. Lovely staff. Entrance through the garden centre.

This place really needs some training in food safety !, place looks lovely but allergies are ignored even though there are signs stating “tell us of any allergies” I asked a man at the till what cake did not contain nuts as my partner has a severe allergies and was served a Maltesers cake being assured it was nut free and the staff even confirming with the chef this was the case, upon getting this home my partner went into anaphylactic shock !! And Realised there was not only nuts in this but it was full of them as if it was one of the main ingredients !!!! Luckily he didnt eat much and is okay now but this kind of service is not acceptable and could lead to death ! . PLEASE TRAIN STAFF ON ALLERGIES!!

Wow! We enjoyed the best cooked breakfast today that we’ve ever paid for anywhere. The ambience in this restaurant is warm, cosy and welcoming. The staff are very professional and friendly. The produce was second to none. Butcher sausage and bacon was delicious. Fresh farm egg. The classic breakfast was delicious. Cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. Great value for money at £6.50. See you again.

Nice little cafe, due to the size of the place the menu is quite limited but the food was very tasty and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Having regularly visited this place prior to lockdown I was so disappointed to see that food standards and quality had fallen drastically. On the first occasion I had a so called baked potato with tuna. it was not a baked potato as it had been done in a microwave and the meagre addition of a few salad leaves was derisory. I then had a scone - they've shrunk! - and were doughie! The second time I ordered fish n chips with mushy peas. IT WAS THE WORST FISH AND CHIPS I HAVE EVER HAD! The batter was soggy and the fish watery and lukewarm. The mushy peas were again done in the microwave and were solid! The bread and butter was limp and lacked butter. On this showing, things will need to improve drastically before I go back - if I go back!

Service very poor sat an hour b4 we got wot we ordered even with one of us a diabetic n telling them twice it was a case wen its ready so I take it they don't cater 4 DIABETICS folk. WEN WE EVENTUALLY got our lunch WE WERE 1ST IN LAST 2 GET OUR LUNCH ,mac n cheese 2 plate of sandwiches 1 caesar chicken salad 2 Coca-Cola 1 in brew 1 water don't think I will rush back not happy

Before visiting the Jim Clark museum we lunched here. I had soup and a sandwich. Tasty, filling and good value. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Since moving to the area a few months ago we have been regular customers, usually for a coffee and a scone. We've also sampled the soup and sandwich combo. All delicious and serve with a smile and pleasant chat.

I visited this cafe with my sister, brother and sister in law on Monday beginning of December. We ordered a combo and soup on its own. We were given 1 roll and the assistant made a catty remark that we could share that as well as we were sharing the sandwich. To cut long story short other customers were served before us and then we only received one soup. When questioned, the waitress said she had no record and they were out of soup that we ordered. She was very rude and grudgingly gave me money back She was rude and arrogant. I certainly won't be giving them my custom again.

Popped in for lunch with my wife while out on a long cycle. We go to a lot of cafes, however both of the sandwiches we ordered were first class, lovely thick fresh bread and absolutely jammed with filling. Washed down with a large slice of cherry pie which was also Superb!Margaret and the other girls working were very friendly and helpful. Excellent cafe and nice setting in the garden centre. Highly recommended if passing by!

This is in a garden centre and is a bright and airy cafe.The staff were friendly and efficient and the prices ok.They even have a "white coffee" on the drink menu and I can't remember the last time I saw that.When you go in you see the counter and a few cakes and tray bakes etc and it is easy to not even notice the larger meal menu until you have got your food and sat down at a table.Nice food and recommended.

My friend and I always visit the cafe on a Friday afternoon, and with every visit it is always a warm welcome and friendly service through out.My friend is disabled, and all the staff are always happy to help with any requirements we have.We always look forward to our visit!

We Visited the cafe on Saturday, when we went in it was so busy and there was a wait, but the girls on the till were so polite and friendly, they really made us feel welcome. The staff were very helpfull and advised us very well. It certainly lives up to the rating, and the hot chocolate was amazing. We certainly will be back. Thanks for making our visit very delightful.

I can't get over how delicious the Pearsons big Scottish breakfast is. Great value, so tasty. We were so lucky with the weather this morning, we sat outside while our 2 year old played very happily in the play area. It's so hard to entertain a toddler & eat out, it was a big treat to come to Bay Tree Cafe. The staff were very friendly & helpful advising us what to have, throughful bringing an extra plate. Really enjoyed the coffee too. Big tastie portions & very reasonable.

We had the quiche with salad and chicken burger, the chicken was pre cooked and re heated and brown around the edge where it had dried out in the fridge, and the pastry on the bottom of the quiche was not properly cooked, the coleslaw was overdone with mayo so just looked terrible on the plate and was not nice, the cooking has been a hit or a miss for some time since they changed the woman who used to do the cooking so we would return but only for coffee and a scone which is a shame as we like to spend our money locally if we can.

There isn't a lot of choice in Duns if you're looking for a quick coffee or a snack, so I've been in the Bay Tree Cafe a few times over the past couple of years. The menu may change and the tables may have been moved about but it has always struck me that the way the place is run is distinctly unprofessional.

Has it changed hands? Our visit this afternoon didn’t live up to the 4.5 star trip advisor rating. Dried out chocolate cake and cheap machine coffee. The staff were busy mopping the floor and shutting down half the cafe. They need to decide whether they are open till 4 and tidy up when they’ve closed, or shut at 3. Unpleasant and a waste of a tenner.
