Absolutely perfect place to relax on a Xmas-New Year break. Dog friendly and our eldest child loved playing shuffle board. Parmos were to die for - and we are pretty serious about parmos. This is the kind of place I could have stayed in all day pre-kids! Husband enjoyed the selection on tap, I found a good choice of wheat free and non alcoholic beers and we took a few home from the bottle shop as well to enjoy later. Nice touch that we were given little treats for our doggo as well and I loved meeting the owner's rough collie dog who was super friendly! Totally a must visit place if you are in the area.

Great little find just off the A1 will definitely be dropping along again. Quirky beer cafe with tasty food and the longest list of beers that I have read through. We sat in to eat (takeaway is an option too) a lovely beefburger and tasty pasta dish on a Saturday afternoon. The bar is stocked with a huge number of craft beers with options for every taste. Some great names if you are looking for an unusual gift for a beer drinker there will be something here. Easy to get to from the A1 give it a go.

We needed somewhere to eat and feed our baby on the way back from Sunderland and took a chance coming off the A1 to Ayton. We were so glad we did. Probably the best chilli I’ve ever tasted and an equally brilliant burger. They’ve also got a great beer selection and it’s warm, cosy and friendly. The Sunday roasts for two or more they had on offer looked amazing- whole beef brisket and trimmings, whole chicken and trimmings - next time for sure. We will definitely be back when we make this trip again as we often do. So pleased we looked further than the roadside.

This venue works really hard to bring top class live musicians, drag queens, and comedians to a small town in the Scottish Borders. Usually these artists would never visit such a rural part of the country so it really should be celebrated. Also an excellent range of Belgian beers and home-cooked food.

Ayton is probably the last place in the world where you expect to find this little gem, but sure enough it's there in the High Street. Fully lives up to the reviews (well, apart from the abusive one) and deserves its reputation. Remarkable variety of UK and European beers and cider, proprietors who understand them, wonderful pies which include a super vegetarian choice. We dropped by on a Sunday evening quite early, were made thoroughly welcome and left very impressed. Don't pass it by!

We had driven a fair distance to get there so, we were not happy to find it closed. This is the second time we've tried to visit & both times it's been closed. Surely not a good way to run a business. We will definitely think twice before trying this place. Not happy

It's a cozy and relaxed ambiance with eclectic Belgian pub styling and including a warming wood burner fire. Once a country pub but now more skin too an urban cellar bar with a wide and wired selection of specially beers, ales and gins. Usually the lots of a country pub and conversion to something more modern would be mourned but the Hemelvaart takes to the best elements of both to create something far better. With regular live music and comedy night it's become a well known venue and the curry nights are highly sorry after.

We visited this restaurant as it’s the only restaurant in town.I should add we also ate at the cobbles, fire & salt (twice) , the Schloss & the waggon. The restaurant must have 60 covers & the tables are crammed in. Unfortunately for us we were seated in the middle with everyone pushing past us . The food was average , very 1990s . My venison main course whilst nicely cooked was such a small portion I could see more plate than food & was definitely hungry at the end. My lyonnaise potato was the smallest portion that could be cut without it collapsing. Plain boiled veg. The sticky toffee pudding was the same, looked very pretty but tiny. If you want to treat yourself & you’re in tbe area save your money & go the Schloss or eat in one of the pubs.

A weekend away in the Scottish Borders led to us unexpectedly finding this wonderful restaurant in the Yarrow Valley today. It was one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in years (delicious local beef and pork) and a seriously tempting menu focussed around local ingredients by Bryn Jones. The honey cake for dessert by @she.likesbaking was also incredible and I’ve only just realised that Oxana Jones is not only a wonderful front-of-house host, but also an extremely talented baker. Thank you to your team, it was a memorable lunch and we’ll definitely be back for one of your tasting menus and an overnight stay.
