Amarone Thistle in Scottish Borders

A warm, friendly welcome walking into a tastefully decorated hotel was nice. The room was spacious, well decorated and immaculate, as was the rest of the hotel. Evening meal was plentiful and well cooked in a pleasant dining room. Breakfast had plenty of options and very tasty. The staff really make sure you are well looked after in this lovely hotel. Mansfield house certainly lives up to its 4 star rating and we would happily stay here again.

Attend a birthday party there, a bit of a walk from the town really need a cab.

Nice place didn't stay overnight just came for a meal. The haggis parcel was nice, but pretty small for the price. The fish and chips sadly didn't have beer in the batter despite being advertised as such, the batter was tasteless, just an old greasy flavour. Chips sadly weren't homemade either. Reasonable portion. The tiramisu also was below par, zero coffee or alcohol used, was basically a cream and chocolate dessert. The prawn cocktail had too much sauce on it completely drowned in it. The service was good and being a nice venue was the only thing that saved it from one star.

Fantastic hotel beautiful old world charm. Staff are helpful and very friendly. Fantastic food with large extensive menu. Large car park and beautiful grounds. This was our 4th visit in 10 years and just gets better Many thanks Steve and Jane gibbs

Don't know about the rooms ,didn't stay there only ate there

Staying at the Coastal Elegance Inn was a refined coastal experience. The inn's seaside location was both calming and invigorating. Our room was tastefully decorated, and we could hear the waves lapping against the shore from our window. The innkeepers were attentive and provided great tips for exploring the coastal town. A stay here is a true coastal retreat.

Nice hotel, not stayed in their rooms but have had a meal and a funeral wake there. Staff are attentive and polite, the food is good and reasonably priced.

We missed the main course, but arrived in time for the cheese board & tiramasu mmm. The cheese board was very nice but the tiramasu was divine! The staff were very helpful and tentative. The others at the table had the Italian style cheesecake but they were not impressed with the biscuit base - it was like pastry but it didn't work. A good night held by all.

Mansfield House is a beautiful building set on the hills above Hawick. Such a setting demands memorable standards and every part of our visit met or exceeded those standards. A very beautiful decor - an amazingly large menu - unseen but obviously a high quality kitchen - and of course a welcoming and knowledgeable service. We loved our visit and will certainly be back.

What a beautiful place and such a good price. Stunning grounds, lovely, friendly and caring staff and a great atmosphere all round. Me and my pooch Aurora stayed overnight and had a lovely stay. The room was lovely and clean, shower was hot and everyone was so pleasant. I can't wait to come back to such a friendly place.

Friendly and accommodating staff. Lovely clean and comfortable room. My tip, turn the radiator down and maybe keep a shutter open through the night, we woke up through the night too hot. One of the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept on. My only negative was that I could hear the people above due to the creaky old floors and staircase that ran behind the bed in our room however this happens in older buildings and there's not a lot can be done about this unfortunately. The decor throughout the hotel is a great talking point, so much to take in. I really enjoyed my stay, I just wished the weather had been better so I could explore the grounds.

Beautiful hotel, wonderful hospitality, food and loveliest comfortable room. Nice coffee machine in room. Definitely go back. The setting is beautiful!

Lovely and helpfull staff,, lovely breakfast

I've been to the Mansfield House Hotel many times so when we had friends visiting I thought what better place to go than here, we were a party of 5 and everyone found the food delicious and the deserts even better. We will definitely be coming back here and the next time our visitors come they want to go here again. Thank you to the friendly & helpful staff for making it so enjoyable.

Lovely hotel with lots of character, nice gardens and nice public spaces, staff were excellent, only gave it 3 stars due to the sleep experience, hard mattress and the double bed felt small, bathroom light was on with no obvious way to turn it off (at 2am realised it was a cabinet and the switch was inside?), loud noises from the plumbing that woke us up twice and a gap around the door that let in very bright corridor light.

We as 6 lads on our motorbikes booked this hotel on the Internet. Oh wow 👏.. After the stunning drive up to the front door through gorgeous grounds we were welcomed by a very polite lady and shown to our rooms . She said nothing about the way we looked in our gear after a long and wet ride getting to the hotel . The rooms were stunning, clean and had everything you needed to have a very relaxing stay . The staff were all very polite and more than willing to make your stay a good one . The food !!! Well that was even better . I fully recommend this hotel with the 5 stars given . I wish I could give more to be honest . This is a place will be taking my wife back to .

We really enjoyed our meal here. Gorgeous setting with stunning decor. The staff are above and beyond welcoming, the food was great and very good value. The little pathways with flowers in the gardens were great to explore. Will definitely go again.

We had a great visit to this character hotel in great grounds in early July 21.. We arrived completely saturated and there was a wedding on, but we got fantastic personal service throughout. The bikes were sorted and we had a great evening with very good food and drink.

On the spur of the moment we were successful in booking a table for two on Tuesday 15th September 2020. We were most impressed by the beauty and grandeur of the Mansfield House Hotel and by the rooms which encompass the Amarone Thistle Restaurant. After perusing the extensive menu (twice) I finally decided to have the Spaghetti dell Chef (seafood, bacon, egg and cream) whilst my partner had the Pizza Amarone (mozzarella, stilton and prosciutto) and we shared Insalata del Pomodoro (tomato and onion). Both meals were beautifully presented decently sized portions and absolutely delicious as was the Insalata del Pomodoro!!! We rounded off our meals with the traditional tiramisu (me) and the not so traditional strawberry tiramisu (him) and very satisfying coffees followed. Now for the missing 2%: unfortunately steak knives were never intended to cut pizza and when presented with our coffees they did not come with sugar nor were we offered any which was okay for me as I am sweet enough but my partner was a bit miffed until I acquired a couple of sachets from the next table which had been set up for the next day's breakfast. We mentioned this to the waitress who apologized and immediately remedied the situation. But these two little things will not stop us from returning to try one or two of the other delicacies offered by this delightful establishment.

A fantastic meal with great service in a beautiful setting

We have visited many times, not as often recently as the hotel is so popular that it is becoming hard to get a table. The restaurant is very busy but the staff and kitchen cope extremely well, the food is always very good and very consistent. Haddock gougons in batter light as a feather, excellent prawn risotto and their pizzas are very crisp and thin base. The pizza/pasta choice is extensive and if anything is stronger than the meat/fish/chicken options. Pear cheesecake is very good. Always reliable and worth a visit.

First time visit whilst on holiday in Hawick and could not fault it. Lovely dining room setting, staff were friendly and attentive. Extensive menu which they were more than happy to tailor for individual taste, food arrived prompt and was very nice. We were a group of 8 and they had a larger group in too and coped with the service no problem. We had a fabulous time and certainly recommend a visit

Great for all functions from weddings to dinners

Tried here for the first time for a family meal and cannot fault it. The food was brilliant & the service for first class. Having previously travelled to Hawick to go to the other Italian, Santa Marina, I can definitely say I wouldn’t go elsewhere now. The atmosphere was lovely and we really enjoyed our night, the bar is a great addition as after the meal you can enjoy a few drinks after in a comfy seat! Will definitely recommend to our family and friends!

For a place costing over GBP100 per night you would expect better. Sure the facade is nice, but the furniture and fixtures are worn, stained and dated. It appears that since receiving the four star rating very little has been done.<br/>The room received (#7) was tiny and overlooking a roof... sure not every room can have views... but considering that there were vacant rooms available this seems petty. Additionally the room had not been cleaned thoroughly, with biscuit wrappers from the previous guests behind the bedside table and a foreign electrical adaptor still plugged into one of the sockets.<br/>Also, there was not enough hot water and I was not able to shower in the evening as is my preference.

Early bird 1/2 pizza 1/2 pasta has to be seen to be enjoyed, i was totally full after this and both were delicious.

So beautiful , enjoyed our yoga class in our temporary room ,whilst hawick collage is getting extended ,😀

During a recent visit to Hawick I had an evening meal in the Amarone Thistle. The restaurant looks really good and has a nice feel about it. The starter was fine but nothing exciting. For the main course I ordered roast beef, what I was given was something of the deli counter in Asda. the beef was cut really fine and was tasteless. To make matters worse it was served with 3 roast potatoes the size of marbles which tasted like chalk and no vegetables.I enquired if they served potatoes, only to be told by the waitress, that the potatoes were already on my plate. I then enquired if they had any chips and eventually received a portion of chips as I was finishing my meal. I selected a cheese platter for dessert, and this was quite good. Overall the food was very disappointing, the waitress was unhelpful and at £33.95 it was over priced.

Fab place, great decor, comfy tables, very clean, very cheery personal service and lovely food. Repeatable, reliably all of the above.

Stayed here on business, old world country manor, beautiful setting, the most comfortable beds, great food, also has full bar with open fires, lovely during the winter

Ate at Amarone Thistle, the Italian restaurant. Food is superb, and the service very professional and polite. Have visited several times and never been disappointed. Well recommended to anybody looking for Italian, or traditional fair.

Lovely setting on a hillside in Scottish Borders. Food was great and there is a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. Wide choice on menu and staff are excellent.

The house itself looks a little spooky at night but inside there are very friendly staff who look after you very well. The food here is brilliant and the waiter was more than happy to help with anything.

A lovely country house hotel in Hawick. I stayed for one night on a business trip. Was upgraded to a better room and had a great night's sleep in the tower. Food in the restaurant was great. Recommended.

I had a pasta dish to start which was really tasty - actually enough as a main. The main course of lamb shank in red wine with olive oil and basil mash was simply faultless. Despite the large starter I couldn't stop eating the lamb. My memory is awful but I won't forget that dish in a hurry. I could have just been lucky in my choices but I don't think so. Definitely one to visit if in the area. And the hotel is also really nice. Recommend without hesitation.
