Great Food, Along with friendly staff but looking very tired and signs of damp which is a shame as only a few hours decorating would be needed to give it 100%

Nothing negative I could possibly say about Border Merangies. Wholesome food freshly prepared and served with a smile. We never felt rushed even though they were busy. Dogs welcome which was a bonus. Don’t be fooled by the exterior appearance or its location - this place is a GEM.

This is a great place to eat, with a lovely menu plus specials. The staff are so friendly and there’s a great atmosphere. We have tried to get in for lunch before and been disappointed, so I would recommend booking ahead. Their soup is always very good and this time we had a very delicious chicken wrap too. The cakes are amazing!

Stopped for a cup of tea and a cake, cafe was closing in 20 mins, but the staff were friendly, warm, and so very welcoming. We had a fresh cream and berry meringue, which was meltingly delicious, and a fabulous cup of tea. We weren’t rushed, and can’t wait to return! I bought some shortbread (son’s verdict - phenomenal), and chocolate eclairs (husband’s verdict - awesome) to bring home. What a lovely experience, you just wouldn’t expect such a lovely cafe to be where it was, we’ve driven past so many times and never noticed it, so glad I found you! Oh, and we loved Baz (he enjoyed the tiny bit of meringue I accidentally dropped on the floor!!

I had a great toastie and cake in here, there’s a huge selection of great looking cakes. Unfortunately the coffee was awful. I didn’t have the heart to complain as the staff were lovely but my decaf flat white was more like a cappuccino and the coffee flavour was awful. It just can't have been made by a trained barrista. I’d definitely eat here again but maybe with a pot of tea or a hot chocolate.

We arrived at about 2:00pm in the afternoon and some of them had sold out but there was still a very good selection; it was very difficult to choose as they all looked so good. We were staying near Jedburgh whilst on holiday. We passed Border Meringues a few times and towards the end of our week we decided to stop to purchase some cakes to takeaway. They were extremely busy with people sitting inside and outside for snacks/meals but we were served very quickly. Even though it was near the end of the day there was a vast array of cakes to choose from. The 3 of us each chose some cake to takeaway plus a packet of meringue nests. The price reflected the quality and quantity but we felt it was worth every penny. All of our cakes (plus the meringues which we had as dessert when we returned home) were delicious. Wish we lived closer so we could make regular return visits!

Three of us called in for lunch on our way to Peebles after reading up on the excellent reviews on Trip advisor. We have driven past here a few times not realising it was there as the entrance to the restaurant is on the side of the building. We shan't be driving past again though. It is a 'must' place to eat. It is a very clean establishment with excellent decor. We thoroughly enjoyed our main meals and then we opted to sample the mouth watering cakes on display for dessert. Everything we had was well presented and tasted delicious. The service provided by the very friendly and courteous Marion made the visit even more pleasurable. This place deserves to be successful because of the friendly and efficient staff and the beautifully tasting food they serve up. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed. We will certainly be returning when next in the area.

1Was recommended as a place we could bring the dog. Everything looked nice, no one seemed to be in charge, so we were a bit confused as to where to order, or sit, suitable for dogs to sit beside. We had to order at the counter, it was a bready/baked potato+fillings menu and really nice home baking. Food arrived, looked ok, but odd looking pink salad dressing was yuck. Baked potato and haggis filling dry, very little butter. This was a half-way meet for us and we had a lot to catch up on. Adjacent large area for children, full of playthings, but was empty except for one 'mother' with a phone wired into her body and no food or drink and a budding prison inmate aged around 4 running around, yelling at the pitch of his lungs. After 15 minutes of this, I could no longer tolerate the racket and used my not inconsiderable volume of voice to yell into the ether -keep the noise down. Staff did not even hear, but the family at the next table thanked me and said 'quite right'. If this place wants to improve in any way, clear play area at lunchtime, chuck the 'dressing' and put some butter pat's with the potatoes, you should not have to ask for such a basic and - be more attentive to your customers!!!

We went there for a light lunch and had a delicious large panini wit side salad and crisps - nicely presented and excellent value. Also on offer, sandwiches, wraps, baked potatoes, soup(with scone - a nice touch). To take away, we chose two cakes from the extensive range. You are spoilt for choice - the best in the Borders. The young staff were friendly, polite and professional and service was quick. Bill for two paninis, two soft drinks and two cakes - £25. It is not in an obvious town centre location, but on the edge of the industrial estate as you enter Jedburgh on the A68 from the north - opposite the large woollen mill shops. Contemporary style inside with tables well spaced out.

Quite unassuming from the outside but oh my goodness is it worth a visit!!! We got toasties, which were lovely and generously filled. But the real star is the cakes!!! AMAZING!!! Had the red velvet cake and it was the best I've ever tasted. All the cakes looked fabulous, so it was hard to choose, but I wasn't disappointed. The dog even got a little star biscuit bought out on a little plate which was a lovely touch. Coffee was lovely too. Just the right strength for me. As a vegan, I'm disappointed that I ordered the avocado bagel, hold the poached egg, only for it to arrive with cream cheese. There was no mention of cheese in the description so I feel the menu boards must be clearer! Vegan for environmental reasons so I can hardly ask for a replacement only for an otherwise perfect bagel to go straight in the bin. Otherwise I must say the dish was beautifully presented, i especially loved the fruit salad on the skewer! Lovely ambience too and I will certainly return for a cheese-free bagel in the future and one of the lovely soya cappuccinos they do.

I popped in with my partner during a long car journey for a well-earned break. The premises is essentially a large dessert shop but they also have sandwiches and hot meals available. There is plenty of parking around the back of the shop and they also have WiFi available. The service was excellent - we had 3 or 4 different interactions so they were consistently polite. The toasted sandwiches were lovely, although a little pricey for what they were. The desserts, on the other hand, were delicious and good value for money. I had the lemon meringue pie which was a massive slice, fresh and perfect meringue and pastry, easily enough for 2 people (except I was very hungry ;) ) and my partner the chocolate log roll which she said was good. You can also take out the cakes and other food if you want which I think is a little cheaper. They also have an ice cream bar. We would recommend popping in if you are travelling in the region.

I have been in several times recently and usually get tempted by the Lemon Meringue Pie with a coffee but have also tried soup and a scone previously. The coffee is really fresh and top notch the scones are excellent as is the soup- I had a spicy sweet potato one with a cheese scone and it was great. I love the lemon meringue pie it is well made nice pastry very lemony curd and fluffy meringue with crisp top. They also give you a mini meringue with your coffee! They had samples of brownies on the counter, I tried it and was delicious so might opt for that next visit. Lovely place, nice staff my one downside is the venue - it is clean and comfortable but very modern and lacking a little bit of character but still 5 stars as the food and service can't be faulted. Great for anyone with mobility issues as all on one floor and roomy loo! Would be good to offer some newspapers perhaps for customers and the snug area is nice and provate but the tables are too low to eat comfortably at. Minor snags and would not stop me returning asit is an excellent cafe.

Living in jed this has never been a regular thing but having visited a few time with my wife and young daughter it has always been a pleasant if not consistent place to go however this time I had ordered a bacon, brie and cranberry baguette, the brie was cold and tasted like fish.I ordered a kids chicken goujons with bread, the bread was forgotten about and the goujons were only two and dry, the service was OK but for nearly 30 quid for three of us we will go somewhere else

Visited here for lunch today and all I can say is beautiful. Panini was crammed full and the side salad was gorgeous, washed down with an amazingly large cup of coffee. The cakes on offer had me drooling but on this occasion I didn't have any as I was full from what I'd already eating. Will definitely be back and I'll maybe go straight for the sweet stuff.

Since my slightly negative review in January, I have paid two further ANONYMOUS visits and I am pleased to report that on both occasions all was up to previous standards- quick service and rolls filled with plump prime sausages! So the visit which caused me to write my previous review must have been a one off ( post new year holiday?). Totally recommended!!

We have visited here almost every Monday since the end of 2013. The hot food has been yummy throughout and even with the menu changes there are a lot to choose from. In July 2014 I was 39 weeks pregnant and I was in early stages of labour so didn't have to go into hospital so I came to the cafe with my family to pass the time and I was able to sit and eat a great meal while feeling comfortable and stress free despite the contractions. That is how great it is.The staff are amazing and I have no complaints at all. Both my kids love the play area and I like how you can ask for kids portion of something as well so there is no waste. Overall this cafe is the best in the Borders and I will continue to eat here as long as I possibly can.

Much less sausage in roll than previously. Are they cutting back quantity to increase profit? Took a long time coming. Has it changed ownership? If my experience is repeated their customers will stop returning to what has been an excellent establishment.

We've been to Border Meringues on several occasions as we've never been disappointed, the lunches are good, selection and quality of cakes is brilliant, nice coffee in a relaxed atmosphere with a good kids play area. Prices are very reasonable and all of the staff are friendly and efficient. Don't let the external look of this hidden gem put you off its no industrial unit. Highly recommend a visit if passing or visit Jed, but if you like coffee and cake it's well worth a detour.

Has a fabulous lunch. Both my husband and I had the soup of the day with bread. The soup you could tell was home made and was delicious. The chocolate roulade was amazing. Very reasonably prices and the selection of cakes were mouth watering

What a great find! Everything homemade and absolutely delicious. Very pleasant welcoming staff and just wish we lived closer as we would make it a regular place to eat.

Had been looking forward to my visit made specifically to try this place out. Noone else in except the numerous staff all talking away happily to each other. After looking at menu which looked fabulous I went up to order as none of staff looked vaguely interested in taking my order. No sit down we will come to you. I sat and waited and the place started to fill. 3 other tables came in and someone came from behind the counter to clear dirty dishes that had been on a table when I went in. Finally someone came to serve me and I commented on my wait to which I was given a story about the coffee machine not working which was why staff were chatting. Hmmmmn really. Then as of course luck would have it they were out of the very thing I was there to have. I will give them another chance another day as the menu was interesting but the service was shockingly bad especially if they then are having to tell people no coffee! Zero recognition of interaction with customers and I speak as someone with a long hospitality career. Great location great menu but lacking in customer connection.

Late afternoon cuppa and cake. Nice choice of cake, can recommend gluten free carrot and empire biscuits. Pleasant helpful staff. Clean and bright, tastefully furnished . Looks like a nice lunch menu, reasonably priced. Will definately be back

A great find. Friendly service and delicious generously filled toasted club sandwiches. Super coffee too. Would definitely return if we revisit this area in the future.
