Oh dear. I’m a lifelong Wimpy fan, since I was a teenage schoolboy in Essex where there were (and still are) numerous Wimpy franchises. Many a happy Saturday brunch had in the Grays Wimpy, which was run until very recently by the same lovely family as it had been for decades. Forced to close by a sky high rent rise Anyway I digress. I’m in the area every so often, and love, love, love a wimpy. Halfpounder and chips, always. And in the Wimpy Dingwall it’s always been very nice. Not a busy store whenever I have visited, and a little dated. But clean, and friendly I called on on a Saturday recently and being earlier than usual, decided it was too early for a burger ( there I said it but still don’t really believe it) so I went for a breakfast: The Great Wimpy: 2 Breakfast sausages, 2 bacon slices, 2 fried eggs, Heinz® Baked Beans, griddled half tomato & a slice of toast Disappointed isn’t a word I use often. But I was with this. I don’t know what a “breakfast sausage” is, it must be a euphemism for a meatless sausage. Tasteless, textureless. The bacon had been griddled, some parts blackened and some parts undercooked. Two fried eggs, neither were runny…. The tomato half, beans and toast were ok as I would expect Usually a woman does the cooking here (I believe she is the owner) but today’s cook was a guy. I heard lots of pinging from microwaves I have no idea if the sausages are wimpy specification, or a substitute. I know they were awful. So I’d be surprised if they are wimpy approved. Fried eggs… difficult to cook them so the yolks are runny? No, not at all. I manage and I’m not employed in a catering environment. It certainly wasn’t because the place was busy, it wasn’t, with a max 8 guests in during the meal I forget how much this cost, it will have been around £10 of the King’s finest pounds. It was grim. The only saving graces were that the young girl who was waitressing was efficient, polite and lovely. And I could have a wee in their loo before leaving, since I had a relatively long trip ahead Will I go back? Possibly as I love a Wimpy Halfpounder (or double original quarter pounder cheese as it’s now know ) as I think the special sauce and brown bun make it something really unique. I’ll never ever entertain a breakfast in a Wimpy again

Really enjoyed my food. Was really tasty sea bass dish with couscous cous and other meals were nice as well. However, at £50 a head you have to ask was it worth it and the answer is no. There was also a £3 surcharge for a cheese dessert which is a bit cheeky. The main issue I had was with the service. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant as such until it got busier and our table was up near where they all stand as people come in. Just felt we were being watched the whole time and then just as we finished our courses someone was in your face taking the plate away. This is great service it’s fast service. Not what I want when I’m out for a meal. We did enjoy the bar afterwards as well so rates 4 as whole experience was good, but some serious issues to tackle which would prevent me returning.

From start to finish we had a wonderful weekend stay , Hotel is in good condition , rooms excellent airy and fresh smelling , bed was comfortable , and en-suite was large . The dining experience was great , fresh scallops , venison , salmon was magical , cooked to perfection ! No frozen food here !! Good selection of whisky a tad overpriced but ok . Location is lovely , gardens great and an abundance of birdlife dotting bout .

My family of 4 stopped here to eat during our driving trip around Scotland. We all got traditional breakfasts, which were delicious with big portions. The service was very good and we got our food fast. That night, my wife realized that she had lost her fanny pack. We contacted JJ's Cafe and they told us that they had found it at our table. We were already back on the road by then, so there was no way for us to return to Fort William to retrieve it. We asked them to ship it to our house in the USA, and they did! I would go back to JJ's Cafe for the good food and service alone, but I would ABSOLUTELY go back for the opportunity to support a business like this whose owners and employees care this much about their customers. Thank you!!!

Very good food and attentive service. Not sure why this place is not heaving and perpetually fully booked. Other places in Stornoway were booked solid but were not as interesting. It must be newish so it’s reputation as a restaurant hasn’t yet spread.

Lovely location in an old lodge right on the water. Very traditional feel. The dining room was fully booked so they kindly gave us a table in the whiskey bar, which was actually great for us as it was very cosy and felt a bit less formal. Food was fine, but it is very expensive and I didn't personally feel it was worth the money. We had better meals elsewhere for less. Service was good.

The menu includes fish, meat, veggie options. Plated with class and served pleasantly by staff. One night I had the carrot wellington which had particularly good filling of carrot, onion, and spinach. Another night had the creamy risotto with asparagus & peas. Both were very satisfying. Desserts outstanding. The Carnacrach looked scruptious but I chose poached pear for a lighter choice. Had the Toffee Cake with sauce and the smallest scoop of vanilla ice cream. I would’ve enjoyed a little more ice cream with this large piece of cake.
