The Haugh Restaurant and Lounge in Moray

This hotel currently does not have a restaurant - what a deception. The hotel manager claimed they could not source chef and so they were unable to offer meals at the time of our planned stay and tea/coffee making facilities amount to a sachet of catering coffee with dried milk sachets - totally disgusting!

Visited here for a lunch, heard the good reviews and pictures online of food and thought it would be really nice. Seated in the lounge which was really nice and offered a drink, everything going OK so far. Offered a menu on a clipboard which was very basic and didn't suit the venue at all. Menu options included fish and chips, burger and chips, chicken fillets and chips, scampi and chips..... Few others. Everything with chips and almost everything deep fried. Really surprised at this given how nice the hotel is and the surroundings. Both ordered soups as starters which were very tasteless and basic. Toilets were extremely cold, tiles all cracked, no soap in the dispensers. There was 2 or 3 toilets and only one was in working order. Service although not bad was slow, weren't offered any further drinks from our initial ones. Even trying to pay the bill was a bit difficult as we couldn't find anyone to pay the bill, got it sorted in the end. Just overall a bit of a let down, had high expectations but really wasn't anything more than a basic cafe (for lunch anyway). What I would say it was priced very well and this is a fair reflection of the menu so didn't feel like I had been ripped off or anything, just a bit disappointed as I expected it to be a bit nicer than it was. May try it for an evening meal if it has a more extensive menu.

Stayed at the hotel and ate in this restaurant. Food was very good, staff friendly and surroundings pleasant. One thing of note it is run separately so you cannot put the bill onto your room. Would definitely use again.

Highly reccomend this lovely hotel and restaurant. They made my daughter's 21st a very special night enjoyed by 17 of us. The food was amazing and made even better by the service. Nothing was too much trouble. Considering there was a large party of people everything ran very smoothly indeed. The staff were very kind and helpful with helping to organise everything even helping put up all the decorations I had left which was a godsend. We had drinks in the beautiful cozy lounge first. It has beautiful sofas,a piano and a fire which makes it feel very homely with a lovely warm feeling. The staff were all so lovely and very accomodating. Thank you again for making my daughter's 21st a fantastic night to remember We will certainly be back. Highly recommended by all our party.

First time here since the new management took over. Went for Christmas dinner and it was exceptional, smallish portions but beautifully cooked and presented. Great job.

Had a beautiful Christmas meal today at The Haugh Restaurant. We were a party of 28, who all enjoyed the food and efficient service in The Still Room which was perfect for the size of our party. Despite the dining room being busy too, the food was well presented and piping hot. The service was not rushed and not too slow either. Well done to David and his staff. Best wishes to you all for 2020.

We had evening meal 3 nights while staying in the hotel the menu is extensive and the food was very good with good sized portions.The wine list is varied with fair prices.The service is exellent by friendly staff. The 3rd evening we invited some freinds who live local to join us and they thought it was very good too and they will now go back when they want a meal out. Highly reccomend if in Elgin.

My wife and I recently attended a special anniversary of two of our good friends. Prior to the meal we were met by staff and led to the Piano Lounge for relaxing drink and meet other invited family and friends. The Haugh Restaurant certainly didn’t disappoint, the meal was absolutely faultless. As it was a small gathering the meal was served in a beautifully decorated intimate room. The service of staff was excellent and all very friendly. The venue itself to me has the best setting in Elgin for special occasions whether big or small and I would recommend The Haugh Restaurant.

We gathered with family and friends for a special occasion and they couldn’t of picked a better venue. We all enjoyed a three course meal and this was delicious. We had the beef for our main and it was cooked perfectly. The atmosphere was lovely and we found the lounge area very cosy. Staff were very friendly and attentive, the restaurant is definitely ran well! Would definitely recommend and we will hopefully be back soon

Was invited to The Haugh to celebrate the anniversary of our good friends with other friends and family.After reading an array of good reviews i went out expecting a great night and was not to be disappointed,.On arrival we were met by very friendly and courteous staff who told us meal would be ready shortly and to relax in piano lounge.Minutes later we were called through for our meal to our own room beautifully decorated for the party,then the feast began.Couldn't fault my meal which started with poached egg and mushrooms(lovely!!),then the haugh burger which filled me and made me wonder if i would manage my pudding!! but i managed to force down a lovely cruachan pudding unlike my wife who had to share her meal with other guests because she couldn't manage the mountain of a burger she got!!.After letting the meal settle we toastedthe happy couple (thanks for the bubbles Ronald👍👍).Overall a great night of excellent food,company and laughs.Thanks to Ronad and his staff for a lovely night.

We have just celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary at The Haugh Restaurant with 15 of our close friends, it was an amazing evening. We held it in a private room which made it very personal. The service we received was second to none from the way the table was dressed to the very professional staff who served us the most delicious selection of food. All our friends that joined us for the celebration were very impressed with the whole evening and would all certainly return again. A big THANK YOU to Ronald and all his team for a very memorable and enjoyable evening with the best food ever.

The Haugh is located in the Mansion House Hotel, but is run by a different company. The staff are generally very friendly and helpful - one staff member needs to lose what he obviously regards as a "jokey" manner, but which is actually very grating. The meals are imaginative and well-cooked - a favourite was the garlic mushrooms which were served with a poached egg - delicious. The chicken dish is also excellent. A very good experience.

Simply the best meal I have had in years! My mom, wife and son agree. I had the venison, smashing!!! Tender and the sauce was to die for. The salad had dill, that made for a pleasant surprise. My mom had the salad with caramelized onions and she still talking about it days later! My wife had Scottish beef, She said it melted in her mouth. My son also loved the venison. I would highly recommend this Restaurant for dinner to anyone. Without reservation it Is one of the finest meals I’ve had in all my travels. Truly, this is an undiscovered gem! If you don’t eat dinner here you will miss out!

This restaurant is situated inside The Mansion House Hotel. It is a very well appointed area with comfortable seating and plenty of tables. There is a varied menu which is reasonably priced. The food is cooked fresh to order and is of good standard. Will certainly be returning to this restaurant again.

The food is wonderful and very tasty and also very reasonable priced. Many meals are under £6. The service is superb with superb attention to detail.

dear oh dear oh dear,,,, had a reservation for two Saturday night 20.30 hours 20/7/19 arrived around 19.30 hrs,, sat and had few drinks till our table at 20.30 was ready.

Lovely meal last night for all 8 of us. The food was delicious, excellent service with attentive, interactive staff. Lovely to be shown into the piano lounge initially and then back there afterwards, so relaxed and comfortable. The restaurant has been re-decorated. I am told it is run separately to the main hotel, which is in need of a refurb, especially the toilets which haven't had any attention for many years, however, this wouldn't deter us from returning for the food.

Spend 2 nights in Mansion House Hotel and ate here both nights, excellent choice of food and very good presentation 1 st class, meals very reasonably priced and staff very friendly and attentive will definitely return again well done Breakfast both days again excellent ,food piping hot and staff very good

Ich wundere mich wie das Restaurant zu der Empfehlung kommt und die Sterne erhalten hat. Wir haben unser Essen teilweise zurückgehen lassen, total versalzen und nicht essbar. Schweinefleisch bestand nur aus Fett und kaum knusprig angebraten, einfach nur bäh, wenn man es nur auf dem Teller sah. Wir haben das Restaurant dennoch ein zweites Mal besucht, aber waren von der Qualität wieder nicht wirklich überzeugt. Das Frühstück, das für das Hotel zubereitet wird ist alles andere als eines fü ein 4*Hotel, mehr als mageres Angebot. Nicht einmal das ansonsten reichhaltige Schottische Frühstück konnte überzeugen, da ein Teil des dazugehörigen Bestandteiles einfach fehlte. Und die Qualität war billigste Ware. Nachfrage nach etwas Frucht, frisch oder auch aus der Dose - keine Antwort darauf und obwohl der Supermarkt nur über die Straße zu erreichen war, kein Angebot. Nicht mal eine Antwort auf die Nachfrage. Es hieß nur, ich rede mit dem Küchenchef. Am nächsten Morgen war der Kellner natürlichnicht im Dienst, also wusste angeblich niemand etwas. Kein Service. Personal gab sich Mühe, aber die Küche ist meines Erachtens nicht wirklich zu empfehlen. Gibt weitaus bessere Lokale.

Went out with friends to the Haugh and we all really enjoyed the steaks for dinner. Great service and venue, would definitely visit again!

Stopped at the Mansion House and dined in. What a fabulous surprise. The food was amazing and the staff friendly. The gin cured salmon was just amazing. My partner advised that the Braised feather blade beef was the best tasted anywhere. I had slow cooked pork belly - it was excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We stayed at The Mansion House and tryed the restaurant located in the hotel. - and we didn’t regret that. It was amazing!! We will definitly do that again.

Menu basic, vegan option was a block of puff pastry with three small pieces of vegetables and a handful of rocket. Owner/waiter talked in an unprofessional manner and unfortunately would not return. Place needs a refurb asap. Family had breakfast and had to sit in a small room at rear of property, no windows and had to send good back ... They can't even make scrambled eggs?! Disappointed Elgin

Although this restaurant is a different company to the hotel itself its perfect for a cosy meal and drink without having to face the Scottish weather if you are a patron of the Mansion House

My husband took me for a lovely meal at the Haugh Restaurant in The Mansion House Hotel, it is now under new management and it was a great experience. The food was fabulous and the presentation was professional. The staff were extremely attentive and made us feel very welcome. The restaurant has been refurbished to a high standard and looks great, prices for the food were very good value. We would certainly recommend this lovely restaurant to others.
