I have been an enthusiastic and regular patron of the Pottery for more years than I can remember, certainly 22 plus years. I have introduced many friends and colleagues to its delicious cakes. I was upset and disappointed on my last visit to find that loud unpleasing muzak had been introduced. This ruins the ambience entirely. Who travelling in the Highlands wants loud irrelevant noise? Sadly unless this disappointing development is reversed the place will lose my regular custom and that of my friends.

We had been on the road a couple of hours and were desperate for a caffeine and break but didn't expect to find anywhere for a stop. We were delighted when we came across this spot, almost worth it just for the setting alone! we sat outside in the sun and had tasty coffee and baked goods. There was also a dairy free and vegan cake option and dairy free milk alternatives. my friend had a scone which was very good. We didn't get any other food but there were things like soup and sandwiches on the menu, and vegan options (and delicious smells as we were leaving!) The guy who served us was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend.

Drove past this and was attracted by the 'yummy things' sign, so called in after our walk at the waterfalls in Laggan - and I'm so pleased we did! Sadly sandwiches were pre-made (I don't eat butter) so I settled for chocolate cake and wow - it was so good! My daughter also had a sausage roll and devoured it - and her cake! It also sells little trinkets - lovely vases (I assume locally made), woolly blankets, and a small range of soft toys - from which my daughter chose a bunny. Will definitely return!

Visited a few times over the week we stayed nearby, the staff are lovely, location beautiful, and cakes delightful. Thank you to Remy for being so friendly and helpful, and to the manager who gave us milk to take away when we arrived... Only one thing we would ask for...it would have been nice to have had the option of a meat sausage roll and not just a vegan option...that aside, perfect.

This great wee cafe stop also seems to be registered for reviews under Caoldair Cafe. We rarely miss a chance to stop here - have even chosen this route back from Skye because of its great baking. Usually good soups too. Gingerbread is the best ever and the Victoria Sponge last week was to die for. Nice wee shop too with quality products - soaps, cards, scarves, rugs etc. Only 10 mins from the A9 at Dalwhinnie on a highly scenic road.

What a find! Starting off - such a lovely building with timber frames and a really rustic feel. Sells locally made products - useful, interesting and beautifully made. The food though - Wow! Really great! As a vegan it's sometimes hard to find even an solemn option for food but they cater for a wide variety of diets. The staff are so personable too, had a lovely chat with one of the staff, and the person who served me, really calm and welcoming auros and atmosphere. I will definitely will mark this on my map for next time - genuinely a pleasure to be here.

Gem of a Cafe, dog friendly My dog was treated to a biscuit and bowl of water by a kind young waiter. The coffee is excellent quality, soya or oat milk available, a really delicious pastry for the vegan sausage roll and amazing dairy free gf brownie. A great pitstop after a long drive from near Skye to the A9 ..... don't miss it! Plenty space to walk the dog too. No dogs inside bug plenty of outdoor seating with shades.

Served on both occasions by two sullen staff , served with indifference ! ( man and woman)... Overpriced cakes, which were not fresh. Stale scone, stale cake, jam in a jar, On a positive, lovely bothy, but sadly wood burning stove not lit, and we were all cold. lovely china...but sadly, it takes a bit more hospitality than that to draw me back, Theres better around ! My wife and I have used this wonderful little gem of a coffee house many times now on journeys over from the A9 to Fort William-way. It's a small amalgamation of buildings with bright and promising signs helping you in. The coffees are so tasty and there are very tempting cakes. When you're finished you can browse all manner of attractive local arts and crafts from clothing to pottery to art to notelets and cards. The service is always cheery and the surrounding scenery is spectacular looking up to Badenoch and the peak of Craig Dhu. You won't regret stopping and stretching the legs!

En route from Falkirk to Skye we arrived around 12.30pm and were ready for coffee and a nibble. Although there were plenty of staff they kept interrupting each other and had to ask numerous times what our order was... we were going to have a roll or sandwich but when we saw them in the fridge adjacent to the till we decided against, they were thin and compressed in cling film, very uninviting. We decided on 2 slices of apple cake and it was extremely soggy and and stale tasting with the thinnest imaginable amount of apple in the centre. The tea and coffee was fine, but no teaspoons, no sugar, no knife or fork for cake! Probably no repeat visit.

We have driven past a few times and were attracted by the unusual sign and the thought of home-baking! Disappointed to say the least. Very cold inside therefore we sat with our coats on. Hurrah we thought as the the owner opened the log burner..only for her to throw one measly log in...still freezing! The cakes are placed in full view of everyone...but one look at the pricing on the menu and I was horrified. Absolutely extortionate at £4.00 for a small slice of cake. I don't know how the prices can be justified. For the prices charged for the sandwiches I would expect a side salad and coleslaw along with it, not just a pre-made roll wrapped in clingfilm. Honestly felt ripped off and will not be back.

This isn't a typical Highland "gift shop" packed with tat: designers & makers have poured themselves into their work to create a gallery worthy of somewhere far larger.

Travelling by road between Skye and Edinburgh (or to Dalwhinnie to get by train to Edinburgh) this has long been a great place for a pit stop, with the bonus of maybe picking up some lovely cards or gifts. If I've come up the A9 I love turning off onto what feels like a 'real' Highland road, and this place is in just the right setting. (Dalwhinnie was a fairly common pitstop on this route, but the toilets are now closed, and although there is a snack place open again it's pretty unappealing - like Dalwhinnie itself). So this place, in its lovely setting is all the more appreciated. The owner can be a little insistent that you sign her visitor book, but she's just trying to get an idea of where the trade is passing from. Open all year, on a smaller scale in winter.

At the time we thought the manager (who handled the till) was a bit serious but we just assumed it was because she was stressed out. Shame there's an issue with the staff not being able to relax as the cafe and business offering are first class. We stopped here on our way back from Skye after our B&B owner talked of their cakes so highly. We were met by an immaculate building in beautiful surroundings. Inside the place was spotless and we were met with numerous delicious cakes. The staff serving food were extremely welcoming however, as mentioned in previous reviews, the owner's attitude and general presence ruined it all for us. I made the cardinal error of admiring and daring to touch a blanket and was quickly met by the aforementioned owner rushing over to tell me that was her most expensive blanket by an up and coming designer and that her cheaper blankets were over here (I.e. You can't afford this so put it down). She did this extremely loudly in a small area and whilst I'm pretty thick skinned, even I was a little taken aback by her callous yellings. Regardless we sat down for our sandwiches which were average at best, only to have the owner prey on some poor chap with his family behind who admitted to being a famous potter's son. He then succeeded at getting this woman's life story, rather loudly, whether he wanted it or not including how she hurt her hand, her complaints with the forestry commission, etc etc. Whilst I understand she is probably enthusiastic about providing a good service in her own way, I couldn't wait to leave. She thoroughly ruined what should have been a lovely relaxing stop and I didn't dare to look round the rest of her shop after my own experience and witnessing what happened when an older lady dared to ask if she had any other sizes available of one of the hand knitted jumpers. Normally I don't write reviews, particularly those that are so clearly negative but I am shocked in this day and age that people think it is ok to treat people like this. Perhaps the owner should trust her staff to provide the welcoming service that they are so desperately trying to do without her interfering. Also, she isn't the best judge of character. I am an interior designer so I certainly could have well bought her blanket for one of my client's cottages as it's exactly what I was looking for...however after her comments and quick judgement, she's gone and lost herself £160.

We stopped off for a spot of lunch on our way home from Skye and were instantly impressed by tidy surroundings and a beautifully decorated coffee shop. Before having a moment to digest the menu, the owner barked that there was no table service and to confirm the soup and what other savouries were on offer. The soup and cakes were excellent and top entertainment was provided from the owner, who continuously barked at her customers and staff. The militant management style certainly ensures the running of tight ship, however staff and customers appeared terrified to speak so the atmosphere was a tad tense. Definitely worth a return to see if the waiting staff survive.

Amazing coffee, cake and soup in a lovely pit stop outside Dalwhinnie. We were there on a busy Saturday lunchtime, and there were queues almost out of the door, which the owner seemed to be getting increasingly stressed about. If made for a bit of an uncomfortable atmosphere as she furiously wiped tables and took away plates while we were still eating, even telling one of her staff to dustpan and brush under my daughter's feet while we were still at the table. Apart from that, it was lovely, but just could have been a little more relaxing.
