Dirty, tired and not had any investment in years, the heating wasn't even on and the owner Steve was not interested in our complaint that it was cold, said... " it's Scotland in winter!"

Stopped at this restuarant for lunch on our way to the headland. Lovely lunch, so reasonable & a lovely owner (& staff) who then went with us to the headland & pointed out the islands & gave us a brief history of John O’ Groats.

Outside non assuming but pleasant inside, very friendly and excellent food at a reasonable price. I recommend it.The Meinhost was the owner of the famous horse Oregon Trail who won the Cheltenham some years ago. Good crack!

El restaurante bayview era sorprendentemente bueno y mejor de lo que esperaba para la comida estilo pub. El servicio era excelente! No comer 5 Estrellas Michelin, pero buena comida saludable pub.

Freezing, dismal dining room but the fresh crab and lobster ordered in advance from the fishermen lived up to every expectation. Small pub with bar very friendly and pleasant. Not a gourmet rendezvous but if you like seafood go no further!

We actually stayed in the rooms upstairs (which were comfortable by the way) as other places in Lybster were not available that evening and had dinner and breakfast in 2010 on our way back from Orkney. We were so glad we did because the meals were just lovely back then (despite the restaurant being a little run-down at the time), so I can only imagine what they have done with the restaurant now. The staff were really friendly and the food was delicious. Despite the shared bathroom, which was well maintained, the rooms were clean and comfortable. If the food now is as good as it was back then, I would say that this place would be a good stop-over for a meal and a sleep and we'll be back there again soon hopefully.

This was a very enjoyable experience, don`t pay any attention to the exterior as it looks a bit run down. On entering the bar area we were greeted by a friendly barmaid/waitress, we had a drink in the cosy bar and had a look at the menu, which was impressive. We had dinner in the newly refurbished dining room, the service was great. Our meal was lovely, i can certainly recommend the seafood chowder for starters, the beer battered fish was beautifully cooked, nice crisp batter and accompanied by home-made chips. All in all a truely well worth while trip. Excellent!! Will certainly be back.

Do not make any requests, or you will be met with an intimidating stare and a passive/aggressive response. It made our stay quite difficult, but we stuck it out as it was peak season at the time. Also, our room more suited to a single bed category - with a double bed squeezed into it, there was barely enough room to move along one side of the bed and around the end of the bed, as it was so close to the wall on two sides. There are plenty of other good B&B's in the area who will be glad to welcome you.

I have been an enthusiastic and regular patron of the Pottery for more years than I can remember, certainly 22 plus years. I have introduced many friends and colleagues to its delicious cakes. I was upset and disappointed on my last visit to find that loud unpleasing muzak had been introduced. This ruins the ambience entirely. Who travelling in the Highlands wants loud irrelevant noise? Sadly unless this disappointing development is reversed the place will lose my regular custom and that of my friends.
