The best restaurants serving British food in Highlands and Islands

Been here on a number of occasions food always fresh fish black pudding haggis sausage etc all excellent will continue to eat here

I have been an enthusiastic and regular patron of the Pottery for more years than I can remember, certainly 22 plus years. I have introduced many friends and colleagues to its delicious cakes. I was upset and disappointed on my last visit to find that loud unpleasing muzak had been introduced. This ruins the ambience entirely. Who travelling in the Highlands wants loud irrelevant noise? Sadly unless this disappointing development is reversed the place will lose my regular custom and that of my friends.

An amazing hotel in an amazing location We were greeted by some lovely staff and the lady leisha. Smiles all around. We were shown to our room which was immaculate. We had our little terrier stay with us which was really appreciated and well accommodated for. Leisha gave us plenty of information on the surroundings and where it would be nice to take our dog for a walk. Her reviews on the walks were spot on. We met some lovely locals who were all very friendly and welcoming. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant and it was fantastic. We decided to eat a light meal at the Muthu Newton Hotel as we had traveled all night to get here. The Chaplin theme of the restaurant is really pleasant. Also, the staff was delightful. Since neither of us were really hungry, we decided to go with the soup of the day which was a Sweet Potato & Coconut Bisque. It was served with a warm roll and butter. The portion was the perfect size, and it was delicious. We decided to splurge and have dessert. I had the brownie with cream, and my friend had the sticky toffee pudding. They were both good, but the sticky toffee pudding was over the top. Really excellent. Prices were very reasonable as well.

We had a lovely dinner on our first night in Glencoe. The service was warm and friendly and the bartender came and walked my husband through the best way to taste scotch. The food was delicious. We had fish & chips, the venison and the lamb shank, all of which were very well prepared.

This is our fourth visit to Shetland, but the first time we've managed to find the hotel open for lunch. Friendly greeting, and we were told (almost apologetically) that they were 'only' doing sandwiches and soup for lunch. Have always wanted to eat here so we opted for the sandwiches. The guy behind the bar apologised that it would take a while (there were a few people in the hotel and only one member of staff in the kitchen). All I can say is that we won't be eating until very late tonight, if at all! Lovely sandwiches/toasties, a very large helping and good value for money. We both said we couldn't eat it all, but it was so good and nicely prepared that we felt it would be rude not to. It looks as though the hotel is undergoing a big refurbishment, so good luck to the owners, perhaps we'll plan a visit in the future and stay here. Brilliant, thank you.

My partner and I have stayed at the hotel a couple of times and eaten in the restaurant on both occasions. The food is amazing and the staff are very friendly and professional. The restaurant itself is divided into a number of rooms which gives more intimate feel and not like you are stuck in the middle of a big hall full of diners. 10/10 we will be back as soon as we are in Inverness again.

Tasty food with a great view of Lochness. The staff are lovely and they have a good selection of whisky. Good value 3 course meal deal.

The Chillers bar and grill was excellent! The service was fantastic with wonderful staff who were friendly and attentive. The coffee and food was also fantastic, the toasties and soup warmed our bones and lifted our spirits! 10/10 would recommend if you are in the area!

We were offered service earlier in the restaurant or the bar. We were joined by another couple for dinner. We were presented with a “special “ menu and the normal dinner menu . Two of us ordered starters and what we thought was an entree from the “special” menu. However is main turned out to be “3” scallops for £9.95. I could have bought a half lobster for that price. We also requested that the dining bill be divided between the two parties and they refused.

Arrived 2.50pm, seated and it took someone 10 mins to come over to explain kitchen closed. The kitchen closed at 3pm. Bought 2 tea, 2 cakes and a juice with little change from £17. Would say the cakes are below average for taste and quality although they charge £4.35 each. A lot of staff doing very little here and the shop is way over-priced for essentials. Judging from previous comments, I imagine they rely on tourists rather than locals for support.

Told us the cafe was closed but when we were standing on the beach 6 people were served drinks we finally realised it was because we were English. TERRIBLE !!!!

Welcoming spot for coffee and homemade cakes with view of the Loch. Yellow siskins from the window and we were excited to see 3 sea eagles circling at the far side. Have walked up to the eagle hides and not seen any so it was a lovely surprise to see them from the cafe. Interesting museum so learned more about the history of the area. Definitely recommend visit here.

Very good food, decent price and everyone cleared their plates , we will definately return in the summer when we can enjoy the views

Popped in for an evening meal. 2 x very tasty burgers and some good beer later we left very happy. It isn't the grandest of places, but it does deliver good food at a fair price. Would definitely return if we were staying longer.
