Popped in for an evening meal. 2 x very tasty burgers and some good beer later we left very happy. It isn't the grandest of places, but it does deliver good food at a fair price. Would definitely return if we were staying longer.

Picked up takeaway fish and chips, they were really very good, although two fish each was very generous.

From the outside the place looks rather run down, but inside there is a good atmosphere, the staff are pleasant, the food tasty, with great portion sizes & it's excellent value. We were there for Sunday carvery & they were quite busy, but the food arrived very promptly. The nut roast was one of the best I've tasted & the meat eaters we're happy too.

We visited the pub last week and we all chose fish and chips. Needless to say we were not disappointed. Probably one of the best fish and chip meals I have ever had. Good beer and a warm welcome from the hosts too. Don’t miss this gem.

First rate fish and chips and really friendly, welcoming owners, who were very accommodating with a late request for dinner. Would definitely recommend

The FISH n CHIPS was amazing out of here. I'm not a sea food person but gave this plave a good hammering for the food. Had a great laugh in there too. Food is 110%

Very disappointed that both hotels were closed in July and there was nowhere serving lunch or dinner.

Great hosts at this remote pub on the Island of Sandy. Beer was great and we were made most welcome, even offered to cook our trout on his BBQ, nice patio overlooking the sea and great cracking with the locals.

Well, we found out that the reason for it not being open, was that the person cooking had had a knee surgery, fair enough. But why not put up a sign sayinsorry, we are closed? We were finally told after knocking on the hotel door and asking about the café as it said on the door it was open. We were told that they were closed, but would open for fish and chips five hours later! Upon asking if there was anywhere else, we were told no, which luckily turned out to be only partially true as the brilliant community shop in Lady village not only sold freshly made sandwiches, but even had tables for us and served tea, coffee and cakes as well!

Meal for 4 when visiting family on Sanday. Went on Wednesday which was fish and chip night. Food all freshly cooked and highly recommended. Very good value for money. Had lunch there (twice) and could not find fault :)

The Kettletoft Hotel restaurant is most probably the only restaurant on Sanday Island. As such, you cannot expect much because there is no competition to beat. However, since we spent the day on Sanday Island and since one has to eat from time to time, in we went. The restaurant has windows overlooking the sea and the local fishing harbour. The staff was friendly, the menu offered enough options and the food was freashly prepared and tasty. We started off with breaded mushrooms and stuffed peppers (Orkney version of Jalapeno Poppers.......) which were very good. For mains we took the Thai Green Curry Chicken, the Chicken Tika Massala and the Chili Con Carne.....Interesting Thai, Indian and Mexican combination, and all on an end-of-the-world island in Orkney.......Everything was nice and tasty, especially when downed with some nice Guinness and Scapa Ale. Apparently the Kettletoft Hotel makes an effort even without local competition, which is commendable. Nice Place!! Nice Food!!

We were the ONLY people to be served in the 'Tangles Cafe'...ironically named! After someone noticed we were there...it was a further 5-10 mins. before we were served It was another 5-10mins. before the cold drink was brought out...another 5-10mins before the coffee arrived. A further 5-10mins before the first sandwiches appeared...and yet another 5-10mins before the 2nd light-meal finally made it to the table. Service was pleasant enough...but really...it's not 'rocket-science' is it...to serve a couple of people in reasonable time, when there are no other orders to be taken? Did not feel welcome...will not return...and cannot recommend.

Visited for lunch in June 2018 - fish and chips were excellent, piping hot and a generous portion, and the beer (real ale from Orkney's Swannay brewery) was also very tasty, and well-kept. Service was prompt and friendly, and there was a fine view out into the harbour. Would definitely recommend.

A cracking little place...... whilst staying on the island we visited The Kettletoft for a few cheeky drinks whilst walking our dog. The landlord Mark and his wife Julia were very welcoming and friendly and even allowed our golden retriever inside. An excellent selection of drinks were available and some great food too.

We visited this hotel for dinner one night and I must agree with the last year poster this place is very very tired, seat were all covered with rugs to hide the tears, the place smelt greasy, we had to eat here as it was all we could get that night, what we had was fair and plenty of food on the plate.

Called into hotel after a two hour walk turned into a five hour trek! The kitchen had closed an hour earlier, but after ordering drinks and chatting, the owner kindly fired up the fryer and cooked us two portions of scampi and chips which we ate in 30 seconds flat! Awesome.

I'm bemused because the hotel described in the previous 'glowing' reviews is certainly not the one I visited today. The bar was filthy, the wine selection was appalling and the member of staff who was behind the bar seemed about as disinterested in her customers as could be possible. The greasy smell from the kitchen as I walked past ensured that I didn't order any food from the very inadequate menu.

I do not believe the glowing reviews are accurate! We went in for a drink and they had only a revolting Pinot by the glass or a wine box. The bar staff were glum and knew nothing about what they were serving. What a waste as the hotel could wonderful and in a great location. The place needs upgrading before it can get near the accolades someone has given it!

Just back from staying 3 nights in the wonderful very dog friendly Lynnfield Hotel in Kirkwall. We have stayed in several other hotels in Kirkwall but none of them came up to the standard of the Lynnfield Hotel. Malcolm and his staff couldn’t have made us feel more welcome than they did. Our room, the Melsetter Suite was just wonderful. A fantastic mira shower and a space age jacuzzi bath etc etc! The food was simply delicious. We had intended eating elsewhere on one of the nights but after dinner in the Lynnfield Hotel the first night we continued to eat in house for the duration of our stay. For dog owners, look no further. All the staff are very dog friendly. Rusty our Welsh terrier can’t wait to go back! Very highly recommended.
