The best restaurants serving British food in England

Having eaten here 3 times over the last few months my overall impression is underwhelming. The food, on the whole is fine, but the menu doesn’t seem to change, as a non meat eater this means a fairly boring choice. We have no plans to return in the near future

Great night at Low Lights last Friday - food (pies) were great, there was a super folk band on playing live tunes and best of all was the waitress/bar lady who served us, so friendly and genuine - would go back in a heartbeat!!

Some of the best fish and chips we’ve had in a long time, large portions of excellent food at a reasonable price for 3 of us would highly recommend if you’re looking

Thought this place was dog friendly Was told it was ok to go in the garden got halfway through untill a miserable cruella DeVille looked at me a spoke to me like I was something she had trod in told me I couldn't go out the back with my dog

Great staff very accommodating to requests. Very nice ambience and atmosphere. The food was amazing and the wait was short. Would recommend to anyone who wants a nice little place to eat.

Absolutely loved this little place in the centre of Castleton. Staff were very friendly, place is comfy and there's yummy cakes to go with tea and coffee! A decent range of other food on the menu for lunch and bites - would definitely recommend!

We waited outside for a short while for a shared table and received our food promptly. The queue remained out the door whilst we were there, getting longer! They serve hearty breakfasts with delicious flavour that are perfect to start a day of exploring the trip the lakes.

We are thrilled to have this pub so close, we were so so sad when it was thought to be closing, four of us had lunch today and it was superb , definitely a destination pub that we are lucky enough to have in the next village.

Myself and my wife live locally and fancied a lunch out….. my goodness after deciding to go to Fremington quay cafe well wow what a treat ….. the cafe was really busy weather had turned …. We had to wait a short while to get a table but it was so worth it ….. the staff were patient and amazing, coffee brilliant and food a real treat ….. portions fantastic with only down side as no room for puddings which looked out of this world …. Will be back for some soon ….. for visitors be patient as it’s worth it ….. thank you to everyone ….. worth a visit…… Big Kev

Comí este restaurante con mi amigo para celebrar nuestros cumpleaños. El restaurante ofrecía un menú degustación halal, así que opté por eso... ¡no fue decepcionante! El pollo frito, el pez monje y el cordero fueron particularmente memorables. Terminamos nuestro menú degustación con un chocolate especial de ladrillo rojo que representa un área histórica en Birmingham. El personal también nos dio algunos mini cupcakes para celebrar nuestro cumpleaños. Este restaurante tiene de todo: personal amable, comida de alta calidad, buen servicio y ambiente, y algunas huellas de la historia y cultura de Birmingham. Realmente recomiendo este restaurante!

Very friendly and efficient service. We were there on 'steak night' so two rump steaks and a bottle of wine for £45. Steak was excellent.

We visited Blue Island on our first ever evening in Southampton. It's kind of spoiled all future evenings in this city, because it is difficult to imagine a more enjoyable meal! We were drawn to the restaurant by the excellent reviews, its proximity to our Premier Inn, and our fancying Greek food. From the welcome on the phone and on arrival, to our departure two hours later, we were looked after like old friends. I'm sorry I don't have names, but the owners are so friendly and cheery, in addition to providing first-rate service. As with many previous diners, we chose the Meze Meal for Two. Fabulous value; delicious food! Really, there is little more to say, other than, we cannot recommend Blue Island too highly. Loved it! Thank you for giving us such a lovely evening/meal.

Went as a party of eight while on holiday nearby. Had high expectations given other reviews and we weren’t disappointed. Good range of traditional pub food, perfectly cooked, great portions and good value for money. What more could you want.

Fantastic food and service! Really great experience. The host and welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be going back
