Carters of Moseley in Birmingham

I ate this restaurant with my friend to celebrate our birthdays. The restaurant offerred a halal tasting menu so I opted for that... it was not disappointing! The fried chicken, monkfish, and mutton were particularly memorable. We finished our tasting menu with a special red brick chocolate that represents a historical area in Birmingham. The staff also gave us some mini cupcakes to celebrate our birthday. This restaurant has everything: friendly staff, high quality food, good service and ambience, and some traces of Birmingham history and culture. I really recommend this restaurant!

While visiting Birmingham, my oldest daughter suggested Chef Brad Carter’s tasting menu. My younger daughter was also visiting her sister and her boyfriend. Chef Brad and Holly (his partner) and their team welcomed us warmly. Dinner was served at Eighteen with a great terrace and view of the downtown Birmingham. We started with cocktails before heading into dinner. Dinner was served in an open dining room with floor to ceiling windows with city views. Each meal was announced and described before enjoying. One of my favorites was the grass fed beef that melted in your mouth,all the dishes were artfully presented. It was a wonderful experience and end to my trip. I would recommend checking out the tasting experience💕👨‍🍳

Been thinking of visiting Carters for a few years so the pop-up in Worcestershire which is closer to home was too good a chance to miss. Was very impressed by the whole experience - original and delicious food served by knowledgeable, motivated and friendly staff. Learned lots about the British leaves and flowers grown in the glasshouse and had a guided tour with scissors after our meal so that we could take some home. The food was inventive, interesting, modern British - and Brad and Holly clearly have a loyal and accomplished team all of whom stayed with them on the temporary move to Evesham. Just brilliant from start to finish.

Had visited carters a few years ago and comparing it to other Michelin restaurants thought is was ok but not our favourite and some of the dishes were good and some were just bland. Decided to give it another go at the pop up restaurant for lunch and left feeling underwhelmed again and when your paying a lot of money for a meal you don’t want to feel over charged but do if you don’t really enjoy it. The amuse bouches were bland and tasteless , crab meat on a slice of apple that wasn’t an amazing apple either ??? the bbq flat bread was a bit rustic for a Michelin restaurant , one piece to share ?? and the bbq process made the shabby old green house smoky when you first enter , which in itself is not very clear where it actually is when you get there as just a tatty sliding door with no signage. The mussel dish was the best one visually but the main course of red deer on the bone to share with a pot of celeriac mash and a pot of salad was the strangest Michelin dish I’ve ever been served. Having to carve the meat off the bone myself and then for my wife and dishing out a dollop of mash really was bizarre and although it was tasty it was not beauty on a plate which is what you expect. The sweet of chocolate mouse looked lovely but was nothing special and I’ve had better ones in a pot from many supermarkets. The lunch was finished off perfectly with a trip to a portaloo outside to spend a penny which just about summed up our afternoon. Two weeks previously we were at simpsons and as usual was blown away with everything we were served, I think we are done with carters, I’m sure there are people who think their food is amazing but it just doesnt do much for us.

It has a michelin star and some of the food was star standard, but not all, and to be awarded a star it should be,On of the mains was venison and unfortunately it was tough.Also only served with mashed celeriac and a salad, I would expect something more exciting/adventurous from a starred restaurant, Unusual venue in a greenhouse.Wines we found very expensive for the quality given.

This was our second time visiting the Carter's pop-up in Westlands Nurseries within 2 months and I don't think it will be our last. We were thrilled that Brad and team retained their hugely deserved Michelin star in this new venue and absolutely love the vibe, the atmosphere and the setting of the pop-up. The service is understated, friendly and excellent and the food is unusual, beautifully presented and genuinely local. I wish they would do a wine flight (!) but the wines we selected were also interesting and complemented the menu really well. Highlight for me is the bread course as well as the partridge main. Thank you again for having us and can't wait to get booked in again.

What a fantastic experience! The scented greenhouse setting is fab, funky and fun. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable explaining the foods journey. As for the food it’s insanely good. 9 courses, great value. Run don’t walk to Westlands by Jan when Carters are off to Birmingham again. Thank you Brad and Holly you totally spoilt us!

Amazing venue ar westlands Evesham sat in a green house with tasty beautifuly presented food. The perfect place for lunch, great friendly staff and deserves the excellent reputation it has.

My wife and I visited Carter’s at their summer relocation within a greenhouse in Evesham, a gift from our daughter and son-in- law. We had always intended to visit the Moseley restaurant but never got around to it. The atmosphere in the greenhouse was fantastic. We were made very welcome from the outset. It was a nice touch for various chefs to come to our table to introduce their dishes and explain the sources for the ingredients. As for the food, it was everything we expect from a Michelin-starred tasting menu. Beautifully presented dishes, well cooked and with great variety. Carter’s is relocating to central Birmingham later this year and we will definitely be going to check out the new premises and menu.

A fabulous evening in the countryside out of Birmingham! Really enjoyed all parts of the evening- drinks before dinner in the al fresco area and the relaxed and uber welcoming vibe. It was lovely to have the staff explain the meals and every time we come it always feels like coming home. Great selection of interpretative cocktails too! So nice to be so close to where dinner has been plucked from. And the flatbread - oh my! That needs a special mention! Awesome meal, amazing staff! Highly recommend!

We’ve been to a handful of Michelin restaurants now, this felt different! The food was as expected on point… really fresh, with at least 75% of the food coming from the greenhouses surrounding you, there was some real skill and imagination that went into the dishes. What we loved the most though was the service, attentive but relaxed, each course explained in detail. Previous reviewer mentioned the toilets outside…. Could they be a little nicer, maybe, but I think you’ve got to let them off this as they are in a greenhouse, and they’ve made it work, providing you with a really unique experience. I think for the food, service and whole experience £75 per head represents great value, especially when compared to what you would normally spend for a tasting menu at a restaurant in this country with a star! We are looking forward to visiting again before they go back to the normal restaurant for the winter.

Disappointed and underwhelmed after experiencing the tasting menu. The service was excellent but the food was lacking in taste and somehow quite bland, despite the degree of thought and attention to detail which would have been involved in its preparation. The food was brought to the table by the chefs. Whilst this might be a nice touch, some of them looked like they needed a good shower. I didn’t mind their uniform being casual but as I tend to make an effort to be well presented, I would expect the staff to do the same. Dirty socks with scruffy shoes or crocs, lots of uncovered hair …it was all too much for me! Had I been served by one of the clean and tidy, knowledgeable and enthusiastic waitresses who looked like they cared about personal hygiene, I think I would have felt more comfortable. The restaurant itself is vast for the number of people in it and it felt like we were sat in the outdoor department at b & q with rows of plastic plant pots (which contained some of the ingredients). The music was a little loud and something more mellow and relaxing would have been more to our taste. The toilets are outside in a mobile unit and not the cleanest. We have been to a relatively small number of Michelin star restaurants over recent years (maybe 6 or 7) and like to experience many different types of eateries (not just fine dining) and I’m sorry to say that carters didn’t meet our expectations on this occasion.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food was amazing. The stand out dish was the local tomato and cherries. The food of dreams. Attention to every detail is given. The team are professional and friendly. Thanks for a memorable experience.

This restuarant is great for all occasions. service second to none. Staff went out of their way to make us feel welocome from start to finish. Menu was varied enough for all of us to have a lovely meal. thoroughly enjoyable great pairings, cannot fault. Will be coming back soon!

A wonderful experience. The food was fantastic - we had the seven course Summer season option. We were also looked after so well by Esther our wonderful waitress.

We’ve been here three times in the past year and would go every week if we could. We have always been on the chef’s table with the drinks pairing (exceptional), and could not fault the staff, service or attention to detail. Brad or one of his assistants describe each dish and it’s contents in detail and are happy to answer questions - they are obviously knowledgeable and proud of their creations, and quite rightly so. The food is outstanding, the staff are warm and welcoming, the sommelier has excellent knowledge and we would highly recommend this fine dining experience.

Everything was outstanding - friendliness of the staff really stood out, alongside some seriously good food which linked back to various parts and history or Birmingham. The wine pairing was also great. We will be back for sure.

Our first visit for quite a while & we now realise what we have been missing. All 11 servings of food were excellent, as were the recommended wines. The greeting on arrival felt really genuine & all the staff gave out a vibe of thoroughly enjoying themselves & wanting customers to do so as well. We are fortunate enough to be able enjoy a lot of fine dining experiences around the UK but this was as good an evening as any we have had for a long time. I seldom write reviews, so this shows how highly we rated last nights visit. Thanks Brad, Holly & all the team. We will return again soon.

From the second we walked in the experience was amazing. Holy and team made us feel so incredibly welcome. Gracie May and Esther are just wonderful. The passion and care for the ethos and quality of food shines through from Brad and his team with the enthusiasm they share as they talk you through each dish. Carters have it spot on in our opinion in delivering a michelin star (well deserved) experience in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. I cannot rave about Carters enough!

This place, every visit blows my mind!! The creativity surrounding the dishes not to mention the effort that goes into sourcing their produce and wines. You just can't beat Carters for a fabulous meal in a great setting surrounded by fabulous people. Everyone who serves you is exceptional. The food is out of this world and Holly (front of house) is really helpful and makes you feel very welcome.

Technically accomplished cuisine but the Chef's palate and mine are out of phase. I simply didn't find most of the dishes palatable.. I liked Opheems, and Adam's, but I didn't enjoy Carter's. The acoustics are very poor: I had difficulty hearing my dinner partner sitting opposite. I won't be back.

Fantastic food and incredibly friendly staff, loved it

My wife and I went to Carter's of Moseley (COM) during our recent visit home to visit family in the Solihull area. We decided to treat ourselves to a night out and selected COM from the Michelin site and the fact it was so close to where we were staying. We selected the Chef's Table, the incremental cost from a regular table was minimal and we were not disappointed the the experience. We arrived a few minutes early for our 6:30pm reservation and were warmly welcome at the door and shown to our table. The Chef's table is a high top allowing for a view into the kitchen and seats up to 5 people...this particular evening he table was all ours. We chose not to do the wine paring with the menu and instead we had a great time talking with Ester, our sommelier for the evening, she was incredibly knowledgeable on their wines and took the time to help us select the perfect wines for our evening, thanks Ester. Brad and his team were busy in the kitchen and we had a front row seat. As we sipped champagne to start, it was not long before Brad was at the table introducing himself and his team and soon the courses began. I will post the menu and the pictures of the courses, but it was all incredibly well presented, explained to us in exquisite detail and the flavours were just superb. An inspired menu with all British sourced ingredients (except for the soy sauce). It is hard to pick out any highlights as each dish was an experience, beautiful in presentation on locally made plates, dishes and knives and the staff and service was exceptional. However, Truffle Royal, just a flavour explosion and with the gold leaf potato leaf was amazing. The hake dish was delicate and beautiful, Duck was cooked to perfection, not to mention the grain and parsnips served with it. By this time we were getting a little full but it was time for dessert. Buttermilk soft serve ice cream with birch sap, exceptional yet looks so simple. We so enjoyed the 4 hours we spent there, Brad, Holly and the entire staff were all so engaging and we ended up in the kitchen for a photo or two at the end. Brad and team were kind enough to answer all our questions during the evening and even provided us with a list of recommendations of local establishments as well as information on a couple of their purveyors. This was my second 1 Michelin Star restaurant and I have had the pleasure to also dine at a 2 and 3 Michelin star in the USA. That said, Carters of Moseley is right up there with what they do by comparison. Great job Brad, Holly and Team, we will be back.

Utterly unpretentious, just all about locally sourced exceptional quality. The most enjoyable restaurant experience of my life, including other Michelin starred places. Amazing! I took my Mum for lunch at the weekend for her birthday and we both absolutely loved it. All of the staff were so lovely and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious, with some nice surprises and touches and the duck for 2 was incredible....

I’d been looking forward to trying Carters given its reputation and appealing menus, and went in March for a work event. We had the 6 course menu, which was more than enough food, the 9 or 11 course menus would have been too much I suspect. The first course of fried chicken was very tasty and the nicest of the 6. This was followed by a mushroom custard and Birmingham Soup. The custard was nice, although it wasn’t packed with the kind of flavour I would expect in a Michelin starred restaurant. I didn’t enjoy the soup, it was more of a miso or consommé and, again, wasn’t particularly flavourful. Our group of 5 all struggled with that course, for the same reason. The bread and butter was very nice, although normally served as an amuse/bouche than a course. Then came the BBQ duck leg for two. Beautifully cooked with a nice bbq glaze, but not what I would expect from a restaurant of this standard. The dessert was very well presented, rhubarb with a rose water mousse. The rose water flavour dominated the dish for me, had that been toned down a little I would have enjoyed it more. The staff were excellent, the decor and atmosphere very similar to The Wilderness. On a very cold and wet Thursday in March there were very few people there, which was a shame. Having been fortunate to eat this year at Opheem and Upstairs, perhaps I’ve been spoiled, but there was some margin between what those two restaurants are producing and what I experienced at Carters. I would like to go back, perhaps the food was just not for me that night, although it is quite a jaunt from Lichfield, so I’m sure I will in the future.

An absolutely phenomenal experience at Carters. My first time there and I'll definitely be back. The food was beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. So much thought, love and care has gone into every part and we learnt alot about where the produce came from, a lot of it being very local and pulled from the ground that day. We were a table of 4 friends and we felt incredibly relaxed and as we could chat, laugh and enjoy each others company, which isnt always the case with Michelin starred restaurants in my experience. The service was relaxed, attentive and genuine which ticks all the boxes for me. Loved having the fully open kitchen and being able to see Brad and the rest of the team working their magic. All in all an incredible experience and couldn't reccomend it more. Thank you to the whole team and can't wait to come back!!

I love the seasonal philosophy and how every dish has a history and layers of thought behind it. The craftiness and subtlety of the mixture of flavours is like immersing oneself in a painting, not to mention the visual aesthetic of the food. Absolutely phenomenal experience, booked the chef's table for our anniversary and it couldn't have been any better, staff were friendly, attentive and went above and beyond. All staff members made sure we was comfortable and the food is an experience on its own. You have to try it yourself to fully appreciate it. The chef's were all lovely and kept checking in on us and it was so fascinating to watch a kitchen work so well and as a unison. Would absolutely return again.

If I could give it 6 stars I would, 5 doesn't do it justice. The most exceptional food experience I've ever had in my life without a doubt. The attention to detail was to second to none. The service was fantastic, welcoming and not pretentious at all. Every single dish was impactful and memorable but the monkfish dish might be the best thing I've ever eaten. The wine pairing was a brilliant addition, full of interesting and delicious wines pairing seamlessly with the food. Overall Carter's was an unforgettable experience, the flavours will live long in the memory and I can't wait to visit again. I've visited other 1* Michelin star restaurants and Carter's is in a league of its own, definitely worthy of 2*.

This can be the best food experience I have ever had. A truly unique performance by the the restaurant-team. Top class food and pairings with very interesting background stories. The easygoing atmosphere, adaptations and twists made this an absolute success. I will be coming back.

The best Michelin starred restaurant we've eaten at! Fantastic service- food- settings- wine pairing. Chefs table was perfect. The explanation and experience of the food was like theatre. We were treated extremely well and can't wait to return again. 10/10

Amazing food on Friday night. My wife and I have been going to Michelin star restaurants once a year in London since around 2015. We went this year to Carters of Moseley in Birmingham. Afterwards we agreed this place was the best (alongside Roganic in London) that we had been too. We would come up to Birmingham just to come here again! :-)

Stunning food, stunning drinks, stunning atmosphere. Can't fault any aspect of it. Welcoming, friendly, inclusive. So happy to have this restaurant in Moseley.

My wife and I had a fantastic experience here for our anniversary. The waiting staff were very welcoming and very attentive. We particularly appreciated them sending us details of the wine flight after visiting. The main event of the food was incredible. The highlight for us both was the fried chicken closely followed by the twist on the cacio e pepe dish. We paid for the Chef’s table experience and it was 100% worth it as it was fascinating to understand the thought process that had gone into each dish and appreciate the sustainability ethos of the restaurant and the provenance of the ingredients. Thanks again to all the team for giving us a wonderful night. We will definitely look to visit again.

Wonderful meal and experience. The staff are all friendly, passionate and knowledgeable about all the food and wine. When they say they think about locally sourcing, they mean it. All of the ingredients are British, some from only a few miles down the road from the restaurant. They take the time to build relationships with trusted suppliers and it really carries through in the care and attention they give to the food you get on the plate. We had an 11 course tasting menu in November 2022. Brummy themed and brilliant 👏

Easily the most relaxed Michelin level meal I’ve ever eaten - no fuss, no airs and graces, just supremely good ingredients, fabulous cooking, and great service. Each dish surpassed the last, with humour and flavour in equal measure. The wine pairings were unusual and effective…maybe...

My wife and I tried this place for lunch. It was a unique experience beautiful regional food with wonderful enthusiastic staff who passionately believed in not only what they did but also connected businesses I would not hesitate to recommend it.

We had the 6 course dinner to celebrate my husband’s birthday, loved the charcoal BBQ duck it was super tender with crispy skin that melts in your mouth, also the crunchy fried chicken at the start was finger licking good! A very friendly and welcoming team who hosted us for an amazing dinner experience. We had the vegetarian tasting menu which had some of the best food I have ever tasted.

We’ve been to Carters several times over the last couple of years and it never disappoints. We love the atmosphere, the drink selection and obviously the food. After trying all Michelin restaurants around Birmingham area, Carters remains our favourite.

Another fantastic visit to CoM last night for my mother's birthday, Holly, Brad and the team always go above and beyond to make us feel completely at home here, no pretentiousness needed, just good food, good wine and good times!

We had a family meal and our experience was fantastic! All the staff were really friendly and attentive to our needs. It was interesting knowing the background behind each dish and how the ingredients were all sourced within the UK. The dishes were very interesting and creative and the staff were brilliant! Exceptional experience at the Chef's Table, a perfect UK immersion in a carefully curated sensory experience. Highly recommend for a milestone occasion. Brad Carter (along with his team who deliver flavour and visual magic before you) was warm, welcoming, and full of interesting insights on how he has sourced locals ingredients and crafted the menu. Carters has been high on our hit-list for a while now, and it did not disappoint. The service was top notch from the moment we walked in, drinks were excellent and the food was out of this world. A special shout goes out to our servers who put up with us for the evening. We will be back !

Just the most amazing creations of food ever, seasonal and local, innovative and tasty. Yes it's pricey, but it is so worth it, staff are wonderful too.
