What an absolute treat! We visit the JQ once a year for sparkle shopping, and always go to 24 Carat Bistro for lunch. When we discovered it had changed hands, we thought we'd have a new adventure..... I don't really do hot and spicy, but decided to give the goat curry burger a go. Tingly lips aside, the taste was amazing and it was great. Rav and his wife are lovely and the philosophy of their new venture blew me away.

We stumbled upon this hidden gem while looking for a goat curry in Birmingham. It didn't disappoint! Rav was very passionate and this really shone through in the food. It was a pleasure talking to him and learning about his passion and experience. (I've never met someone so passionate about goat! Truly "The Goat King!") We had the punjabi Cha (tea) - it was so delicious I think we had 3 cups each (was like drinking a warm hug). It complimented the food including a Samosa Chaat, Holy GOAT-amole (loved the story behind it!) and of course the goat king special goat curry. All cooked to perfection, the flavours really shone through in each dish. We bought an extra Goat-amole burger for the way back, it just hit the spot. We definitely had our fill of goat and this place will be a must visit for future Birmingham trips - thank you Rav and Jas for the hospitality, we had an amazing time and it was a great ending to my birthday Birmingham trip!

Visited here last night during a 1-night stay in Birmingham. Me & my friend have never met such hospitable people. We instantly felt welcome and cannot wait to visit again. We ordered the fritters & goat chops to start followed by two curry mains; one goat, one chicken. The owner took time to sit and speak with us & we left feeling part of the 24 Carat Bistro family! The food was excellent; homemade, fresh & delicious. We cannot wait to visit again! A hidden gem in Birmingham!

We really enjoyed meeting Rav and Jazz who were full of warmth and enthusiasm. We learned about the role goat meat plays in Punjabi cuisine and then got to try it as part of this flatbread dish served with butter and yoghurt. I forgot the name unfortunately. They have recently taken over this business and we wish them the very best with it. The food was delicious, and though not the cheapest, it was cooked and served with great care and kept us full until well into the evening.

An amazing evening An outstanding small family run restaurant where the quality of the authentic Punjabi food and a warm welcome are core values. I think this is the most genuine and warmest welcome I have ever had at any restaurant, as you become part of the family for the evening. The food was fantastic, and The Goat King spoiled us with three delicious courses. All three causes were great, but OMG the goat curry speciality was so tender and spiced to perfection. My new favourite restaurant so, next time we are Birmingham we will definitely be back!!

Rav explained with passion about his hopes for the business going into the future, and the dishes being served. We love our food and our appetites were thoroughly expectant for the samosas with beautiful pomegranate seeds and a beautiful chutney to accompany. I cannot express how beautifully tender and flavoursome the goat curry was. All in all we had a very special evening hosted by the friendliest owners and chefs of Rav and Jas. Went in for Caribbean but met the new owner starting out. Menu has changed to Punjabi but decided to stay and try it out. The pakora starter was simply amazing. The Goat curry was a substantial amount but equally just as good; full of flavour. Didn’t have room for dessert but was very tempting. More to come from the new owner as he looks to revamp the place and build out his menu so will definitely be heading back to this hidden spot; such a lovely experience.

Had the pleasure of visiting The Goat King at 24 Carat Bistro on a Sunday afternoon. We opted for the Goat King 3 course special. For starters, we had the keema paronta and pakoras. The mains was goat curry, rice and bhatura (lovely moreish fluffy fried bread). The food was absolutely delicious and the portions are generous! A special mention for the desserts - the tiramisu was amazing, however the rasmalai cake = game changer!! Stunning all round. The hosts are lovely and clearly passionate about the food. Delicious food, authentic Punjabi flavours just like homemade. You will be hard pushed to find any restaurant that can deliver this authentic homemade style of cooking. The goat curry had a perfect balance of spice and heat, real spices with no oil and no powders. This type of cooking shows how the chef knows his stuff, exceptional. The rice was perfectly light and seperated. The quaint atmosphere with the fireplace makes it even more homely. Great host who's passion for cooking shines. Highly recommend.

Was invited to my sister in law’s birthday meal there was 12 in the party, I was disgusted with the portion sizes and the quality of the food as it wasn’t freshly cooked that day or maybe that week. I questioned Jan about the surcharge and was told we were charged for the table, even though my husband and I were on a table for 2. The starter which I had was the sweet potato croquettes were edible, the dumplings that my husband had were small and not freshly cooked before our visit, main course chicken was bland regardless of the sauce and the rice was cold with a bit of lettuce on the side of the plate. Dessert was also a disappointment as how Jan described it was not how I received it and again a small portion and my husbands dessert was more glass than that Christmas pudding sundae. Over priced substandard food was what we received that evening and I was also overcharged for my soft drink, and my husband’s Stella was warm and didn’t taste like Stella, more like normal lager. I was also disgusted at seeing food wrapped in cling film sitting next to the till when it should have been in the fridge. Other members in our party who had the blondie for dessert said rather than having white chocolate they found apple pieces in their blondie. Not a place I would ever go back to in my lifetime we paid £80 for the privilege of eating food not freshly cooked, for that price you would expect freshly cooked food.

Well well what can I say not the best of experiences, I don't know who are writing these good reviews as what my party and myself experienced was something completely different. I booked because of these so called good reviews, I originally booked a buffet as I was told it would be less hassle, paid £80 deposit for my party, that's when things went south. I got text asking for our starters and mains ??? communication was lacking, they have several menus which were pretty similar, was always told to look online for this menus and that menu. It took 3 weeks tooing and throwing, not being able to get through on the land line, leaving messages and not getting a response, (my phone died so didn't have Jan's mobile) finally got a call back and what I was told when I first booked was different after I booked. There was no kids menu was originally told they could cater for them. Now for the meal luckily for me I brought with me everyone's starters and mains because nobody knew what they were having even though it was given weeks ago, spent ages going through what everyone was eating again. Starters were nice apart from the small portion and the plantain was hard like those banana chips you can buy, mains was a big disappointment I had the ackee and saltfish with plain rice, left half of it as if wasn't that nice. Dessert was the best part of the meal but again a small portion, all in all it wasn't value for money, in fact over priced for food not freshly prepared and I have never left any restaurant hungry, each person also had to pay 10% service charge on top of their bill. Everyone in my party said they would not return. Jan tried her best on the night but by then I had a feeling that I would regret booking for my birthday, thankfully the company made the evening pleasurable. Would have been cheaper to eat at DEEP EXPERIENCE, which is also a small restaurant on Bristol Street where you are guaranteed to be served freshly cooked food, which has not been microwaved before serving.

Food was nice and cocktails great! Friendly service. We shared the platter, goat curry (really good!), chicken in brown sauce (okay). Our gripe was the trio of patties. It was 1 cut into 3 pieces, not worth paying nearly £8. The bill for 3 of us came to over £100 which was quite a shock. Also to use the toilet you need to go outside into the cold and across the small alley.

This place needs a bit of a revamp. It is aldo a little cramped for our patty of 8. I had the escovich fish, to be honest it was a bit disappointing. I expected the fish to be seasoned up with onions pepper and the trimmings, but it was ok but not what I was expecting. The food was good and service too. The drinks seemed a little light on the alcohol content. They had no card machine, which was a bit inconvenient, but the cashpoint was not too far away. She gave us some good recommendations on what to eat and the specials of the Cajun Mac and cheese were amazing great choice and definitely need adding to your permanent menu. Loved the vanilla rum and ginger beer and the passion fruit rum and lemonade was also a hit. Husband had the goat curry and I had the jerk chicken. Both were delicious we had empty plates. Jan gave us good recommendations for dessert, husband had the profiterole and I had the rice pudding. I loved the pink touch. Thank you. Hidden gem No seriously this is a hidden gem among the gold and diamonds of the jewelry quarter. It's not the most obvious restaurant as it's hidden down the side passage of a shop. Entering you get the feel of a small little home in Jamaica and welcomed as if you were family by the staff, like stepping into your grandma's for dinner. When finding places like this most people stick to something obvious like a burger or something and chips, STOP !!!!! ask for their recommendations and take your taste buds on an adventure of flavour and you won't regret it. We didn't. I had rice and beans with jerk pork, it was all cooked to perfection, sometimes you can get pork and it's been over cooked and it's drier than biltong. NOT THIS PLACE, the pork cut perfectly and melts in your mouth like butter. My wife had jerk chicken and the meat fell off the bone, I snuck a bit and it was complemented by the sauce. The one thing that BLEW OUR MINDS was the cornbread, now that was amazing, bursting with flavour and left us wanting more, I literally mean that, after our visit we went everywhere to hunt for some to enjoy at home. The selection of food is just enough, not too much that the chefs are overwhelmed but most of the menu is home made and it shows, the flavour is there. I cannot fault anything at this restaurant. Get yourself down there and enjoy a piece of Jamaica, with the friendliest family atmosphere, most of all treat your taste buds.

I'm usually quite critical if jamaican food out and this wasn't too salty and all the different dishes we tried tasted really good. Would defo return. Wish the owners the greatest success

The food and service was 5 Star. I love Jamaican food and being a Jamaican myself I can be fussy when it comes to eating out. The flavours was mind blowing tasty, I had jerk chicken bites and chips and my daughter had the curry goat and rice both was cooked to perfection and tasted heavenly. I will be returning to dine here💌

Husband and I popped in for lunch. We found it when looking on line for restaurants near to where we were staying in the Jewellery Quarter. It was really amazing. The curried goat with peas was so good. We couldn’t manage dessert at the time...

Quirky little restaurant down an almost unnoticeable alley in the Jewellery Quarter. Served us a good sausage and egg sandwich.

What a fantastic restaurant! Cosy, warm, friendly, but best of all the most flavoursome food we’ve ever tasted. This is home cooked Caribbean food at its best! We came across this restaurant by chance and this will be the first of many visits for us.

Had only recently heard of this restaurant despite finding out during our meal that they’ve been here for 20 years! It’s a small and cosy spot, almost like dining in someone’s dining room at home and the food menu reflects this too - you can...

Had such an enjoyable evening here with my partner- tucked away and romantic and Jan made a real fuss of us. The food was delicious; we had the prawns to start, jerk chicken for main (pork for Matt!) And orange and chocolate dessert. Service was warm and attentive and I would come back when I'm next in Bham for sure :) Thanks for a lovely evening Jan and chef and team! 👨🍳

Service was ok although the drinks we ordered halfway through our meal were forgotten about. Unfortunately the food just wasn’t up to much, best described as bland. Sorry but not for us.

Had another amazing night here. Always a great crowd and the acts are bang on. You wanna see Erasure? Here's the absolute best nearest thing. You wanna see Oasis? Here are a bunch of talented lads that give you that and lot more (guitarist and lead singer smash it and massive props to the drummer - always overlooked but this guy was mint!). My ultimate respect goes to the amazing bar staff who are so understanding, patient and efficient. Give these guys a pay rise! Top service under much pressure. Shout out to to Terry and to he who is known as Big Black Ball (he says it's not a condition but personally I think he should get it looked at). 5 stars all the way!
