We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary with friends. The food was wonderful and the staff were helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is lovely and unlike many restaurants it wasn't too noisy to have a normal conversation, even though it was fairly busy.

Good car park, impressive looking refurbished property and a reasonable menu. Took a while to take our order for drinks but a long time for them to arrive. A similar long wait for food to arrive but we weren’t in a hurry. I had Cow Pie, ordered with mash, but it arrived with chips - not a big problem there as the chips were really nice, and I didn’t fancy another wait while mash arrived. The pie itself was great quality. My wife had the seafood pie and although nice, did not have a single prawn in it. My other companion had Tipsy Chicken and thought it great. However, both could not eat the vegetables as they were hard (almost uncooked) and almost cold. There was no satisfaction check to allow us to complain. Staff did not return to our area for the rest of our stay so they missed out on us ordering further drinks and desserts. It took us a while to realise that we had to go to the bar to pay and this raised problems as there was no table number to refer to so it took even more time to allocate the correct bill. Disappointing

The Sun Inn was our lunch venue on a day when two parts of the family met up at the 'mid-point' between Glossop and Harrogate (sort of). Our plans to visit Howarth had been aborted at the last minute when the lunch venue rang to advise us they had had a catastrophe with their fridges and all food was off (quite literally I suppose). So my son (from the Glossop end) hastily researched when we could meet for lunch, and what we could do afterwards. The Sun Inn looked good in the photos and is a short distance from the Yorkshire Sculpture Park where we planned to go afterwards. Well what a pleasant surprise! The Sun is very welcoming, dog friendly, and there is a play area outside of which my granddaughters both took advantage. The food was exceptional, and all freshly home made. One of our number is a vegetarian and she said it was so good to have such a choice of vegetarian food. In fact so appetizing did the Mushroom Wellington sound, that I had that instead of a conventional meat based Sunday roast - it was delicious. For those with more conventional Sunday roast ideas, check out the positively mountainous Yorkshires. The portions are generous, reasonably priced, and the service is very attentive and friendly. The walk at YSP afterwards was necessary to get rid of a few calories.

Let’s turn a corner from our most recent experience of this place: It’s so sad to see a pub, a eating place and social centre slip so badly, My wife and I brought old friends here for a midweek evening meal and how poor the whole place felt, dirty, cold, unkempt and even the public toilets provided really run down. This pub needs more than just a bit of TLC; The whole place needs to turn a corner

Had lunch here on Saturday whilst staying with friends in the local area. Nice traditional old pub. Barmaid was nice and polite, gave us a table and left us for a few moments to choose from quite an extensive list. I opted for the giant Yorkshire with turkey. It was ok, could have done with some veg not just peas. No desserts served
