Busy on a Saturday night, but greeted immediately on arrival and directed to our prebooked table. Food was very good but portions were on the large size. Beer was good too.

On arrival most tables had "Reserved" on them, we hadn't booked but, the very friendly barman, rang the kitchen to check all ok for us to take a small table, which was in the rear bar, along with a lovely fire. Drinks order sorted, we sat down and the waiter took our order. Well when it arrived it looked really appitiseing, home cooked!! All tastes beautiful. Recommend you book if visiting. We will be returning!!

Had dinner here twice during our week's stay in flamborough . It is a lovely cosy little pub with loads of character and dog friendly too. Good range of beverages, liked the real ales. The food is excellent, would recommend the steak pie, best I have had anywhere. Service is very good. Don,t miss visiting this little gem of a pub.

The best steak pie, mash and 2 veg I have had for a very long time. My wife's haddock and chips was just as good with a particularly good batter Very generous portions and good value for money. The only problem was that we couldn't sample the puddings as we were too full. Very good pub grub, popper chips and mash. proper veg and steak pie that no one could have filled the delicious pastry any fuller. Well done all concerned such a pleasure ,no pretentious plastic rubbish.

Lovely Pub in the centre of Flamborough, spent every night of our holiday in there. Dog friendly, cheap drinks and lovely food. Big outdoor garden which faces the sun most of the afternoon during the summer. Food amazing, got recommended the Steak Pie and it was honestly the best steak pie I’ve probably ever eaten. Would definitely come back, just for the steak pie alone 🤣

Pleasant local on two levels. Food and drink reasonably priced. Good portions and very tasty. I enjoyed my steak pie with rustic carrots, tasty chips and peas. My wife also enjoyed her fish pie, which was piping hot and served with chips and peas. In spite of being short staffed, we didn't have too long to wait and the staff did a good job with the service. We particularly enjoyed the old photos adorning most of the walls. Many of them were very interesting. If you are still hungry, there is a good choice of desserts.

I came for a meal with my parents after the place was recommended to us, and we really enjoyed the meal we had. I ordered the lamb shank which came with a lovely minted gravy, mash, peas and carrots. The meat just fell of the bone and I couldn't fault it. My Dad had the mixed grill which was absolutely huge, despite this he managed to eat every bit. It was his birthday and were lucky a mixed grill was available as we were told you normally need to give 24 hours notice of this I think. The lady serving us was really lovely, and the other staff we encountered were friendly too. I do need to add a note about the accessibility though.... I booked the table in person and explained my Mum was a wheelchair user. I was happy to be put in the dining room as I was told the access from the back was level and it was on the same floor as the toilets. Unfortunately when we entered though it was so tight getting into the really small dining room that it took us quite a while and a faff to get in, and lots of people were staring. On reflection I should have checked out the seating area beforehand and assisted my Mum to walk in as she can manage a few steps. I'm not mentioning this to criticise, only because people have different experiences of accessibility. Once we'd got in, had a drink and were enjoying our food we were much more relaxed and this didn't spoil the experience.

Spending a weekend in Flamborough as a group of 6, we booked a table for dinner on the Saturday night. On arrival, the staff asked a group to move as she needed the table for the party that had just arrived. Awkward! We said we would have the 2 smaller tables put together. Very quick to try and take our food order, we asked if we could order drinks first.... The menu is varied. We ordered lasagne, Mexican burger, steak pie, Madras, brocoli and cheese bake and scampi. The burger and lasagne, although substantial, were not as we'ed ever eaten before. The curry was a mix of curries as they had run out of paste. The pub was busy, very much a local drinkers pub. People vaping on the next table. Dog friendly, but we were glad that we didn't bring our dog with us on this occasion. A busy thriving pub and we're not sure that tourists are needed or particularly welcomed!

We were staying very local to The Royal Dog & Duck so called up around lunchtime to make a booking for 4 people @ 1930 for a late meal to be told not a problem Called in @ 1920 and waited at the bar to be seated the customer in front off us was a walk in and was told he could be seated @ the table beside the bar he sat for a few minutes at his table whilst the staff were running round due to being short staffed ( I can't blame them for that ) after about 5 minutes the customer returned to the bar and asked to be seated as the bar was very noisy / packed with roudy punters and not very attractive for a family meal my etc After another short weight the barman returned and asked if he could help we said we had a table reserved and gave our name he said yes it's in the restaurant all check it's dressed / ready for you then reaperared after another 5 mins to offer us a table in the front off the bar as they had realocated our table to the walkin customer in front off us at the bar At this point we left after makeing a booking with them for a table to he left at the bar for over 20 mins to then be offered someone else's cast off table that had not even been dressed and still had empty glasses etc It was a poor show I understand they were short staffed but its basics customer service /skills sadly you failed to get them right and when asked about the table the bar man / front off house just shrugged his sholders at us At that point we refused the sorry exscuse off a table offered walked out and took the family of 4 customers else ware Never the less we had a lovely meal @ the northen star who were very helpfull in squeezing us in a very short notice on a busy Saturday night for them due to the short failings @ the royal dog and duck when all the rest Customer service clearly is not at the top of the royal dog and ducks priority list

The banter from the locals really made us laugh as we queued for drinks, everyone was so friendly. The weather was good so we sat in one of the beer gardens for a couple of drinks. We decided to eat there so we booked a table for an hour later (it was a good job we did as it got very busy). The food is good pub food & very hearty, with large portions & proper chips. We shared spicy chicken wings to start, which turned out to be drumsticks in a crispy coating and they were delicious. She then had the fish pie and chose chips & veg to go with it. She hardly touched the chips because the fish pie was quite large, packed with sea food & very tasty. I chose the home made pie (it was steak) along with chips & veg. The slice of pie was big & loaded with chunks of steak in a rich gravy. Also delicious & I also had to leave some chips. The staff were friendly and the cask beer was fine.

We called in the bar area to a dog jumping about and barking. Our little dog is epileptic so I put my two little dogs on the chair so that I could walk past the barking dog as to not spark a seizure! Then to get them off the chair and put them on the floor. To be shouted at by the person serving behind the bar, get your dogs off those seats. It was awful felt so intimidated that we went and sat at the picnic tables out the rear.

We popped in for drinks and decided to stay for food. On ordering our second round and finishing with the word please, the young woman bar staff uttered 'please' as though I had not said it. She sorted the drinks in the other bar and then gave them to the barman asking him to finish the order as 'she could not be bothered' to serve me. It felt very unwelcoming (other staff were fine). The fish & chips were ok but the vegetarian lasagne seemed to consist of pasta sheets swamped in a jar of pasta sauce with a few tinned garden peas in it and cheese melted on top. Expected better. Popped in the Viking the next day and could not have been made more welcome.

We visited last year and the food then was lovely, it didn't disappoint this year either. We stopped at the local caravan park, and the park ranger told us to come here last year so we came again! Husband had the mix grill and from what I tried it was a beaut! Our boy had chicken nuggets (typical child) and not from a bird's-eye packet, in the words of a child "its proper chicken". I had the Penang curry, this was outstanding!! The waiter ensured all my dietary requirements were met (I'm Coeliac and dairy intol) a round of drinks and it came to £29!!! Absolute amazing value and totally made us feel at home with the recent restrictions. Quirky inside and the bar reminded me of Pat Butchers house bar - we loved it!

As it was very windy that day everyone had to sit with their coats on as the entry door to the pub was very close. Could'nt close the dinning room door due to staff in and out with meals to another room. People continually walking in and out of the ENTRY door which defeats the object. They need to get sorted or else the only people going in will be the locals.

Then when asked for another beer was told I would have to get it myself from the bar and it couldn’t go on the food bill!Had to pay for our food with the order whilst being sat at the table, whereas previous night paid at end of meal!!! It was not just the message but the way it was delivered. We were asked if we wanted any sauces and we asked for mustard and salt and pepper. Mustard and pepper were delivered, no salt. Vinegar was also delivered but neither of the meals ordered required vinegar. The salt and the pepper must have been pretty expensive as we only received 4 very small sachets of each!I ordered a medium rare ribeye steak “with all the trimmings”. The waitress explained that this included onion rings, mushrooms and I’m sure grilled tomatoes. Steak arrives Accompanied solely by onion rings. Ask waitress if there was something else included like mushrooms. Stumps off and comes back sometime later with a ramekin of mushrooms in bits which had seen better days and wholly unattractive. The steak was not medium rare but rare, and largely rather tough for a ribeye.Nobody came to ask if all was ok....then only after a considerable time the waitress (elderly) came to clear our plates away, didn’t ask about our meals but did find the time to say well you didn’t eat the mushrooms after all the fuss! I’m not sure I would go back there again. Rude, weird and disorganised beyond the tolerable or forgiveable.NB fishcakes were a novelty too, virtually sans fish.

Called in for a quick drink and bite to eat. Got a table but were left ages before they took our order. theyd run out of our first choice meal and the food we got was not worth the wait. it was not home cooked and was luke warm. when we complained the landlady was rude and aggressive. we left soon after as it was clear we were not welcome.

The landlord & staff never fail to make us & all customers (locals, holiday makers etc.) welcome. This time was our first visit with our nervous, edgy, rescue dog Dexter. He was also made just as welcome. A great pub with good beer, cheer & warm fire.

Visited a couple of times just for drinks during our stay, but just had a meal. Excellent choice of hot and cold drinks and several choices of children's drinks. The menu has a excellent choice of food enough to satisfy everyones tastes buds. Lunch times they have a good section of sandwiches as well. Their is also a specials board with several choices of desserts on. We both opted for ribeye steak which came with chips, peas, onion rings, mushrooms and tomatoes. We did get peppercorn sauce as well. Dessert I had apple and blackcurrant crumble and custard, hubby had jam sponge and custard. The steaks was to die for cooked to perfection, we couldn't fault the meal at all. We both also enjoyed our desserts. The prices are very reasonable a lot cheaper than where we live. The pub its self is nice. Plenty of room and tables for dinning it also has a dinning area. Tables outside in the smoking area. Friendly staff, we always call in when we are in Flamborough and I would definitely recommend a visit.

A friendly welcome and good beer and food selection. Opted for the curry and wife had Mexican. Both good sized meals and tasty. We were the only ones eating but they still kept the kitchen open for 10 mins or so whilst our mains settled and we decided on a dessert.

Just called in to see what it was like. Very impressed. Cosy and friendly. Staff very welcoming. We even had something to eat as we liked the place. Food was very good value, typical pub food but very nice. We liked that as we are holiday makers from nearby (go every 2,weeks) we didn’t find the place unwelcoming to non locals, like other pubs nearby. Looking forward to going again soon

We ate here because it was the only place in Flamborough where we could find a table without a booking on our arrival on a Saturday night. Service was slow due to staff not turning up to work. Despite the pressures the girl who served us was welcoming and friendly and went to considerable effort to organise a table for us. So 5 stars for service. The food was what I would describe as average pub grub - perfectly acceptable, but nothing outstanding. Prices were very reasonable.

6 of us visited Sunday 22nd September. My self and my wife had never been before but the others had been numerous times. We all had the beef sunday lunch and I must say the beef was cooked to perfection and put with the veg, Yorkshire’s and stuffing the meal was excellent. Staff made us really welcome. It’s a really interesting old pub with plenty of history. Well worth a visit. Would recommend booking for a Sunday meal.

Not really fair to judge somewhere on one short visit but for me the choice of beer was limited and it was very quiet.

My husband and I visited The Royal Dog and Duck early this September. We had rib-eye steak each. Our meal was delicious, in fact, we visited twice more during our holiday. The lamb shank was delicious too. Very reasonable prices too. The beer is good price too. Will be visiting again when on holiday in the area.

Sarah was very attentive. The rest of the staff need to be trained by her. On booking to see if we could have a table the man wasn't, quite in the room

We waited an hour for eggs and toast. Owner only cared about Door Dash orders going out the door. Given that Courtenay has so many great casual dining places, give this one a pass. Give your business to restaurants that care about providing good service to their customers.

Went today for lunch , I decided i was having soup , they said it was the last portion so that was fine , I asked for no bread which , when it came it was the smallest half bowl of soup for £6.25 , I didn’t want anything knocking off for not having the bread but did expect a full dish, looking at the menu I could of had a small breakfast, or sandwich for about the same price , it’s soup where do they get over £6 for it!!
