Haven't stayed in any rooms but have had food and drink. The staff are awesome and make this place great. Food is expensive for what it is and to be honest can be alot better. Everything else about this place is really good.

BIG Hugs and Kisses to Will and Jen for their AMAZING hospitality in the restaurant! I can't do justice on our praises of the meals my husband and myself received. Husband had the cottage pie with three vegetables and Yorkshire pudding with gravy; it was a Huge plate that Colin could not finish. Absolutely GORGEOUS, and he was beyond pleased! I had a piping hot bowl of cream of broccoli and cheese soup with two hot crusty buns, and the Yorkshire puddings with beef and onion gravy (you get 3 so Colin had to have one). My mouth and tummy did a happy dance, Absolutely GORGEOUS! And I could not completely finish my meal either as the portions are GENEROUS. If I was to give a rating out of 5, I would give this Wonderful place a 10 for the ambience, the charm, the history, Will and Jen, and the BEAUTIFUL food! Great menu that we will be going back to sample. We would fly back over from Canada just to dine here.

Thought we would give the brewers a try for food as it’s been a while since we have been. We ordered the pulled pork loaded nachos to share and a portion of onion rings, it wasn’t very busy so the food came out quite quick, however what a disappointment, the onion rings were frozen cheap and we got a mere 6 in the portion for £4! If you are going to serve frozen at least serve decent beer battered or such like not cheap mush. The tortilla chips for the nachos were the same quality and the teeny portions of “guacamole” “slasa” and “sour cream” were all out of a squeezy bottle. We won’t be returning here, eating out is a treat for us, but this certainly wasn’t.

We booked a surprise party for my mums 60th. The process from booking to the end of the night was smooth and stress free. We were allowed to go in at anytime the day of the party to decorate and set the room up how we wanted. The buffet food (party menu 1) was good quality, and well presented and brought out at the time agreed. The staff were all lovely and helpful. The bar service was a little slow, however there was quite a lot of us and I appreciate it’s not a very big bar to squeeze lots of bodies behind. I would recommend the Brewers for a private function. Thank you Will & team :)

Went with family and friends. Booked table for 2.30pm for 6. We were offered beef, turkey or pork, only to find out half an hour later that there was only 2 portions of pork left. Then another 20 mins later came out to say there was no turkey left either. Presentation was sloppy, 1 frozen Yorkshire pudding and 1 homemade, but it did taste OK.

From the area, first time been at brewers for a while and under new ownership. Had the privilege of ordering the first burger board and didn't disappoint, £30 for 2 bacon cheese burgers. Onion rings, chicken wings and the biggest pile of chunky chips ever seen, me and my cousin couldn't finish and he can eat. Great service, great food and even played a few board games whilst waiting. Highly recommend.

Lovely pub nice and had a warm welcome. There were me and my sister then another couple walked in after us We order omelet and a pie, 1hr and 20mins later we asked if they had forgotten about us, the bar man went away then came back and said the chef had dropped the omelet so was making another. How long does it take to make an omelet. When the food finally arrived it was nothing special. Just a flat omelet with a bit of salad and chips. The steak pie was lovely tho so I’m tipping that must of been bought in. Was going to have a pudding but didn’t want it arriving for supper. Want be going back

We really enjoyed this pub, new management so gave it a whirl. Ate here a handful of times, so hit and miss. Once we had sausagesthat had been reheated and had gone hard/brittle in the process. Yorkshire puddings were just rude and the last time we ate there we found a black hair in the burger. Bar maid said the kitchen apologised. No kitchen staff seen. Maybe it's just a regular occurrence?! What a shame but plenty more within spitting distance to try so on we go.

If I could have given a zero score I would have. Pre booked table online 2 weeks prior. We Ordered food, they advised 10 min delay… after asking 1 hour later still no food. Said be at least another hour. We only wanted sandwiches! They apologied and gave us our lime and soda for free but this was our lunch hour so then had to take extra time and buy from local shops! This isn’t acceptable I only get an hour for lunch!! They said owner would call… still no call. I thought there new owners it was really busy with drinkers, so went back today the food was awful ,poor quality, sausage n mash the cheapest dirtiest sausage with cold veg , lumpy mash and a frozen Yorkie, no rich onion gravy instead it was watery and unflavoured, the burgers weren’t bad ,, but not great. Yes it was busy as expected however what we didn't expect was very loud live singing. Mothers day is a time for seeing your family for a well deserved catch up, chatter and laughter however we could not hear ourselves speak. Nothing nice to say, will not go again. We have just returned from The Brewers Arms after the four of us went for a Sunday Roast. We had booked a table a few days prior and were looking forward to attending, HOWEVER this will be the last time we go! We ordered at 1:20pm and sat waiting for our lunch. We sat and waited some more until the time was 2:45pm. I went to ask politely what the hold up was, the owner of the pub replied saying “ we have been busy today, I apologise, your food is being dealt with now”. I returned to the table and out came a server, who put two meals down on a table that had ordered less than 10 minutes ago. Then a different server comes and places two meal on our table, leaving 2 with no meals…. We waited 5 minutes and then approached the owner again to ask where the other meals were. The meals were taken to another table ( as I saw). He apologised and said “sorry, the server gave your meal to another table, yours will be five minutes”… 15 minutes later, we had finished our meals and there was no sign on the other 2!!!! We approached the manager again and explained the situation, stating that were not happy with the service and that the other two members of our table no longer wanted the food due to waiting so long. Now, let’s talk about the food that did arrive… 2 Yorkshire pudding ( small), clearly out of a packet bought from the shop. 2 COLD roast potatoes that were oily and COLD. A mouthful of cabbage and 4 pieces of carrots chopped up ( COLD) The meat was cold and there was 1 SLICE. It was like eating a flip flop…. The mash potato was COLD and bitty, tasted like powder… SMASH. The server did not ask if we wanted any sauces and walked away. I then went up to ask for horseradish sauce, had no response, the server turned his back and walked away. The sauce was brought more than 5 minutes later, slammed on the table with nothing to serve it with…. After waiting more than 30 for our table to be cleared, I took the plates up myself, went up to the bar and asked the manager for the bill politely. I said to him “ we have been a few times and this meal wasn’t at the standard you usually produce”…. Which it wasn’t!!! He replied “ we have been busy today and had walk ins. You have raised your complaint and I have apologised”. He said this whilst leaning forward and very much speaking down to me. I informed him that I would not be paying for the meals that were not eaten and he handed the bill. He then began to blame his staff and said it was a learning curve… he’s been manager there for over a year…. I have never dealt this such a RUDE manager!!! He blamed his staff, very much spoke down to me and took no responsibility for the shambles that he called a Sunday roast. Prime example of toxic masculinity!! I would not recommend going here!

Booked table for party of 4. After waiting 1hr only 2 out of our 4 orders arrived. The 2 missing orders had gone to a different table. The only reply we got from the manager when we asked what had happened was: just a curt apology and no explanation. It would take another 25 min for the 2 missing orders to arrive. One of us cancelled his meal whilst we were waiting. The overal experience was not helped by the amateurish serving staff. Our expectation of enjoying a Sunday lunch with friends had gone completely. When we challenged the manager about the bill expecting some compensation he seemed annoyed about this. He repeated he was sorry and that they were short staffed and had unexpected walk-ins and there was nothing he could do. There is always something you can do.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a warm welcome- literally, as there were several open fires, which gave a nice ambiance. The decor and furnishings are a bit tired, but the pub has a new landlord so may make changes in time. There was rather a long wait between starters and main course, but the food itself was delicious. We had the carvery, with a generous helping of tender meat, even though it was the small size dinner! My son in law had fish and chips, which he, even with his appetite, just about managed to eat. We didn’t have room for a pudding. Overall, we were happy with our experience and would like to visit again.

The ensuite was also tiny. It was difficult to manoeuvre around the room. We didn't even unpack as there was the smallest rail behind the door. I feel this room was more suited for a solo traveller. Called here for a Sunday Dinner whilst reviewing in the area. Good choice of drinks on offer, all reasonably priced. Staff were chatty and polite. Establishment is clean throughout, and the toilets were immaculate! We particularly enjoyed the 'Football goals' in the gents urinals 🤣. Rather an unusual feature in the pub is the Old village Well....under a slab of glass and illuminated to the bottom! They have a coin slot in the glass to 'make a wish' and All money goes to charity, nice touch. Meals arrive very quickly, and our one grumble was that 2 of us only like 'peas and carrots'. The barman told us that they were in a tourine and we could put on what vegetables we wanted. Unfortunately the Peas were mixed in with Cabbage and Broccoli (Yuk!). Also note that the only difference we could see between a small meal (£8.25) and a Large meal (£13.95) was one more slice of meat! Not sure the Extra £5.70 for a slice of meat is worth it!! There was no WiFi available as there was a problem with the Modem due to a lightening strike. Dogs are welcome in the pub too. Overall a pleasant meal. 🚩Location 9/10 🍽Meals 6/10 🚻Staff Performance 8/10 🚮Cleanliness 9.5 🌐Wifi 0/10 🐕Dogs Welcome- Yes ⚠️Negatives- Vegetables mixed up together. Under new management… give it a revisit! HISTORICALLY…We’ve been going here on and off for years. The place used to host our staff Christmas parties and although the parties were ok we didn’t like the rude staff, dreadful food or general atmosphere. It’s changed hands several times and each new incumbent seems to bring it up a notch. We hosted a golden wedding party here 3 years ago and the event was successful, accommodation was warm comfortable and clean and Dodd and staff pretty good.More recently we held a wake at the place and the new managers were both brilliant. We had some quite exacting requirements and they couldn’t do enough to help. We had family stay over and they liked the accommodation (although I can’t comment further as it’s not my personal experience). The food was really really good, very generously laid on and fresh and delicious. Around organising the wake we called in a few times, just to have a meal or a drink or to make plans. Every occasion was pleasant. Yes there are things that can be improved, some areas are a bit tired looking and the choices at the bar are rather limited…But, it’s clean and inviting and I’m confident the new owners will put the require love into growing the business. I very much look forward to many future visits and would have no reservations in booking the venue for larger events. They are welcoming, fun and accommodating people.

We've visited the pub on a couple of occasions now and the food has been tremendous. Visited as a group of 12 having booked a couple of weeks in advance - this booking had been confirmed by the pub. When we got there, it was as though they weren't expecting us and we had to arrange our own dining table to accommodate for our group. Second time we visited as a family of four - pub quiet so got seated really easily. As I say, food always fantastic! The same waitress has served us on both occasions and really comes across as not wanting to be there. Seems like a hindrance to her when having to deal with customers and their requests. We just got a couple of bad attitude vibes from a couple of members of staff. If the food wasn't as good as it is, we'd be put off visiting.

We’ve just stayed at The Brewers Arms, it wasn’t the cleanest place we’ve ever stayed but certain staff members were lovely. The room was fairly basic & would benefit from a good deep clean, it wasn’t filthy but wasn’t the cleanest room. The first morning we left our used towels & on returning to the room later were surprised to see the used towels still there, only one clean towel had been left, the bed hadn’t been remade or the cups cleaned. Our first morning which was Sunday we were told we needed to be down for breakfast 8.00-8.30 which we thought was early for a Sunday. We had a lovely cooked breakfast made for us by Linda the chef but the following morning we were told it would just be continental which we didn’t know as there is no mention on the website. If we’d known this we probably wouldn’t have booked to stay here.In fairness Linda offered to come in on her own time & cook us a breakfast but I said no we wouldn’t hear of it. We had a roast dinner on Sunday which was delicious & the beef was cooked to perfection. The barman Antony was very friendly & looked after us & the waitress Nicky was lovely. The landlady & landlord didn’t seem to do much & sat around drinking for the best part leaving the staff to do all the work.We would probably never have a need to stay in the area again but if we did we wouldn’t stay here again.

Having booked a meal at the brewers Arms for my extended family and my dad's 80th birthday, we were all looking forward to meeting together after not seeing each other for the best part of 2 years. However this was short lived.1. The meals brought out did not match orders placed2. Vegetables were brought out 10 minutes after the meals were delivered.3. Tables 3 and 4 received their meals 25 minutes after I had got mine. Vegetables were on the table 10 minutes before their meals.4. Vegetables and gravy were in short supply, not enough for 4 people as delivered 1 bowl per table. The list could go on.I paid the bill but did let the bar man know I was not happy and would be contacting the owners as they were not available at that time.I called the owners a total of 3 times and spoke to the food manager who said she would investigate the issues we had had and get back to me the following evening. This did not happen or the further 2 times I called to chase it up. The final straw was when I spoke to the bar man again who promised they would be in contact on the Friday evening. Still waiting.....

It’s with a heavy heart I write this review. I am not a complainer but feel when I have received less than satisfactory food, service and overall experience that I have the right to do so. I have been in contact with the brewers to avoid this after no apology and an offer of a small refund compared to money spent which I have not accepted I will write my honest opinion. For my birthday and my dads birthday as a family of 17 and not able to get together for 2 years we booked the meal a good few weeks in advance. We offered to advance book the meal choices also to avoid stress on the day. This was Sunday 3rd October. We were told we didn’t have to and would be in the function room that day as we were a large party. We arrived on the day. We were stuffed into a small corner of the pub with barely room for all of us and 2 baby high chairs. We ordered plenty of drinks from the bar and then took our seats to order. I will say the waitresses were amazing and none of this was down to them as they were both young girls and I have nothing but praise for them.A while later the meals started to come out to the first of 4 tables . These were all mainly wrong with the meat and mash being the wrong combination ( this was the choice given not anything we asked for) . These plates went back and forth several times and then more meals followed and the same back and forth routine. After approx 10 mins the veg was brought to all 4 tables one tray of veg for 4-5 people. 2 tables still had no food at all. Again a wait later more meals came out . The first 2 tables asked for gravy that had not been supplied with the original meals. One waitress was bring as helpful as possible as she battled with the mistakes and requests. 25 mins after the first food order came out my table got our meal. The veg that had been on our table was cold. My pork meal and my sons beef meal was cold they went back almost untouched. On the day we made the bar man aware we were not happy but paid the bill to avoid an unhappy end to a lovely family get together. We said we would take this up he next day. My sister called and was told there was no one available and someone would call her back. No call . She attempted contact 2 more times. I eventually sent a message via Facebook to ask for a reply. Which I got a reply from the owner without even telling her the whole story. It was as if she already knew but didnt contact my sister about it. No apology either. I have declined the £50 refund as for 17 peoples food and plenty of drinks this is a small offer for the substandard food we received. The owner came back and said other people were happy that day which I’m sure they were but they were probably a party of 2-4 who would have eaten a meal together. So please do not comment that I am being unreasonable as a lot of thought has gone into this review before posting it. I don’t like to damage a places reputation as I know it’s been hard over the pandemic for many businesses. However there is a time that places need to take ownership for their services when things have not been right. Family travelled from Cheshire , Leeds and Hull for the meal so we’re not all local.

Staff made us feel welcome allowing us to put up balloons & banners for our party of eight. A wide selection of food on the menu with very healthy portion sizes (no one could eat a dessert after the main course!) Would recommend for a family meal. Ample parking.

Excellent local beer to begin with. The food was delicious. We had braised steak, Yorkshire pud and veg plus wedges with pulled pork, jalapeños and cheese with a side salad. Plenty of food on the plates and lovely tasting. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed and the loos were lovely and clean. We will visit again.

Really unfriendly environment.Booked a table for 12 people for a friends birthday and the waitress came out with an attitude stating that we weren’t allowed to split the bill for drinks. So we paid as a whole and waited to be served the food menus. We waited for around 15 minutes to be served a food menu when another friend went inside to ask what was going on. Only to be told that they would not serve us for food as we were being too loud and apparently “paralytic.” Fortunately we ended up getting served food and drinks at the Downe Arms. If you are reading this I’d highly recommend going there for food and drinks if you have a large table under the age of 50 as apparently young people are not welcome in that pub.

Me and my partner stayed in the hotel during a wedding celebration. We had a 3 course meal at the reception and breakfast in the morning. The food was devine and the service brilliant. The room was spotless and I slept really well. Lizzie even went out of her way to put milk in the fridge for my little girl as I had forgotten to buy some on the way. Overall the experience was brilliant. Thank you again.

Staff are friendly. Food quality is mediocre - nothing to write home about but generally no complaints either. Have visited often during the day as we like the prices, atmosphere and find the room light and spacious. However, visited one evening in December and the lighting was so dim we struggled to see what we were eating. One of our party ordered the Xmas dinner which was very disappointing and did not seem to be freshly cooked. Yorkshire puddings clearly frozen and hard as iron. Asked for Xmas puddings which had run out so asked for trifle also ran out - just chocolate brownie left (we did without). I ordered some kind of chicken in sauce which looked unappetising and tasted sickly. I will return but in future will stick to the day time coffee and snacks and give evenings a miss.

Went as a family of 7 for our Christmas Day meal. We went last year and it was lovely so we booked again... we were never informed that the pub had changed hands. We turned up and they had shoved us in a corner unable to see any other family there, that’s what we liked about last year we were all together with other families and it was so Christmassy- not this year. The starters came out, the fish cake was cold and the soup was tasteless. I asked the waitress if they would be able to put a small spoonful of turkey on my toddlers plate (that I had brought with me) and he would then be able to have some of my veg etc. She went and asked the landlady in the kitchen who said no there wasn’t enough. I thought this was a bit harsh on Christmas Day he is only tiny so would only need a little. Anyway, the mains came and they were horrendous. Clap cold and dried up, the turkey had a soapy taste... my grandad who is nearly 90 was with us and he didn’t get any pigs in blankets so I asked the waitress if she would get him some as they had missed them off, the waitress went and asked the landlady in the kitchen and was ages, she came out with a bowl with 2 shrivelled up sausages and said the land lady wasn’t happy as she said there was definitely non missing on the plate when sent out! I said is she calling me a liar... the waitress said oh it’s been awful today I daren’t go back in the kitchen. I would normally have kicked off and demanded to speak to the cook but With it being Christmas Day and my grandad with us who is recovering from a stroke I thought I’d hold my tongue. When the main course was over we sat for about 25 mins with the plates still on our table, I said to the waitress that we had finished and she could take our plates if she was able - she said the landlady wouldn’t let them clear any tables until every table had finished?! Weird. Some of the other tables were still getting their main meals. So we waited an HOUR to have our table cleared and our desserts served. Every table was complaining and was in uproar. People asking to speak to the landlords. When the landlords finally came out the kitchen the landlord was absolutely hammered drunk.... you could see the landlady mad with him. People complaining and they just shrugged it off and started snapping back at people. No wonder they asked for the money up front as if not I doubt any table would have paid. Will never go back it was vile and ruined our Christmas Day!!

Went for a meal with family. Barmaid abruptly barked “you’ll have to wait” when asked to take our order. I think she realised that she was being rude and stressed that the till machine was taking a while. Bar maid then went on to say that there is a delay on food as there had been a lot of orders made at once (despite being just us and two other tables of two people). When asked how long the wait would be the look of disdain on her face showed that she didn’t really want to check. I then said to family we would go elsewhere as they had a better menu and that I didn’t appreciate how she had barked at my brother. To which she retaliated and tried to say that she had not been rude. I Then reminded her that people working in hospitality should be hospitable to which she said “I am smiling even though I am angry inside”. Quite why she was angry considering there was only two orders before us I cannot quite answer. Anyway we abruptly left and will never return. Such a shame however as we had frequented this place many times previously. Needless to say I’ll never return and will make sure that everyone I speak to about this place will hear this story!

This is a lovely pub, decor very nice. Clean throughout, very nice pint but unfortunatly the sunday dinner was appauling. It was luke warm, mash was over powerd with marg, roasts were overdone and hard, beef was tastless and extremly tough and veg was sparse and rubbery. For £10 not at all good. Sorry but you need to get your act together. Wont be back

Decided to give it a try for Sunday lunch. We should have taken note of car park being empty! The place itself is really nice fine for a drink, but the food was terrible.Every meal was cold and tasteless. Meat was extremely tough and you couldnt cut it! There was only 1 person serving behind the bar and also serving food. So meals coming out in bits, then veg, then gravy. We asked for more gravey and to make it hot to warm meal up!We asked waitress to pass our comments on to the kitchen, no sign of chef to apologise etc, and went to pay again no apology or acknowledgement about our dissatisfaction. Definately wont be returning and wouldnt recommend it!

Popped into this Big Pub on the way home. We had Sandwiches which came served with salad, coleslaw and fries. Very simple but delicious. Served with a welcoming smile by the lovely bar lady. Lunch menu isn’t huge but it’s varied enough that I’m sure most people would be able to find something on it. Huge bar and plenty to choose from. Lots of different seating areas too.

Very disappointed, the steak pie, although homemade, had rock hard pastry and the beef , what little there was, was dry. My friend had chicken salad, the chicken had been warmed up and the lettuce was limp. In fact, she was sick and had diarrhoea when she got home. This used to be a brilliant pub, but now the food is very poor and we will not be going back.

Very very disappointed with the whole day. Paid £300 for a buffet for 50 people, we got 3 trays of cold sandwiches,1 tray of sausage rolls, 1 tray of chicken drumsticks,a bowl of coleslaw, a bowl of lettuce leafs and 2 trays of chips once again for £300 No way was that enough food for that amount of money, when I complained I was made to feel like I was dumb, I was been treat very rudely by management he said he would bring more out for another £120 so we pàid once again we then got 2 trays of cold sandwiches, 1 tray of sausage rolls,2 trays of chips and a bowl of coleslaw what a joke the rest of the day was disgusting no tables were empted of glasses the tables were full and plates were not collected so whèn we bought new drinks there was no where to put them, the drinks were very highly priced. I will never ever use this pub again, which we usually do for dinners but not again. Be aware whèn booking an event because it spoilt my day which should havè been very special.

Went for meal this evening. Waited over an hour for our food. My husbands food came , he was given a plate full of chips and veg with a tiny portion of pie.. my food came and it was wrong order. I voiced my disgust and was told the chef had hurt her wrist. Why in heavens name did they continue to take orders for food. I voiced my disgust at my husbands portion size and she just said sorry. I asked for a refund and she said I can get your order in five minutes. Grrrr why did I have to wait over an hour to be given wrong food. We wasn’t even offered a rink for our wait. We never experienced this problem with previous managers. Don’t waist your time and money going here

Terrible experience. Went for Father’s Day, waited for food for over an hour (despite the fact there was a choice of just 3 meals) and food nothing to write home about. Boiling gravy passed over my 8 month old baby (probably due to the fact that the only waiting staff consisted of a teenage girl). One member of staff to do drinks and take food orders. Just abismal, avoid like the plague!!!!

Family of 4 adults went for a meal on a Thursday night. We booked a table but on the night there was no need as they weren't busy. However we had a lovely table and the staff were very pleasant and attentive. 3 of us ordered what we selected but there was no Scampi and no 2nd choice of steak and ale pie so the 4th person had to settle for their 3rd choice. The food was very nicely served and tasty. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious. We will definitely go again as we had a good night.

It was ok. We'd nearly finished a nice bike ride and stopped here for lunch. J-pot ok, soup was hit and miss. Not sure it was home cooked. Came with copious amounts of sliced bread and margarine. But it was nice and hot.

Rude young man behind bar more interested in chatting with his mates than serving (6pm Sunday) and then £1.50 for soda water…rip off! Cold and damp and no atmosphere! Won’t be back much much better pubs in town
